Broadway Tickets By Phone-Applause Theatre Service Goes Mobile

Got an iPhone or a Blackberry handheld phone? Need Broadway Show tickets? Or how about special event tickets like the Super Bowl, Radio City's Christmas Spectacular, the US Open Tennis tournament, or any other event performing around the country? In the past you may have heard about Applause Theatre Service, a long time industry veteran selling tickets of admission for all the shows on Broadway.

Applause Theatre Service in New York City, an expert ticket provider in offering every major Broadway and Off Broadway show to consumers, hotel concierge, tour operators and travel agencies worldwide, is proud to announce its entry into the mobile web site arena. They have just launched a brand new web site which can be found at Broadway Tickets By Phone.

The new site has been created especially for the thousands of Applause's devoted customers and fans and has been designed so that cell phone users will have fast, simple and easy to use access to anything they are interested in on Broadway. In a few seconds you can simply type in the web site address and immediately see our local or toll free phone number in New York City. Then maybe give us a quick call if you are on the run but need to buy some tickets or even if you just want to talk about what's playing on Broadway.

According to Applause's Vice President Rich Gladstone, "allowing consumers access to any kind of travel and entertainment and ticketing information on their handheld, especially up to date listings on live entertainment happening on Broadway and events all over the country is a natural for the mobile cell user". Gladstone further went on to say "we have been providing a personal Broadway ticket service for over 31 years now and every year or so there seems to be some new device or new software that comes out meant to further enhance the lives of people. It is truly amazing that nearly a million Internet shoppers find out about our personal Broadway ticket service from around the world every year. Then they click on our web site or find us in one of their search engines, give us a call and begin a relationship with Applause. There may be hundreds of companies selling tickets but we are confident that if shoppers can find out about Applause, than we can make them a believer in our service. They not make a purchase the first time we talk with the shopper. They may shop around and talk to a dozen other ticket providers and that's OK with us. We are confident that we are truly the local Broadway Show expert. In the end, we don't expect nor do we want to be a really big ticket company. We're just a bunch of real people helping consumers get the best tickets for the best shows at the best prices".

The new web site Broadway Tickets By Phone is a perfect brand name for our new web site. In the coming days, Applause Theatre Service will be making little changes to the new mobile friendly web site. The changes according to Gladstone "all have to do with the customer service experience. We anticipate that cell phone users will really enjoy the Broadway Tickets By Phone site. It has lots of good, clean information on everything happening on Broadway but in a tastefully but somewhat scaled down version. It will be very easy to use for the mobile phone user. If anyone has suggestions as to any improvements we can make to bring Broadway ticketing and Broadway news to cell phone users, please give us a call in New York at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930. Or if you have a minute simply email Rich Gladstone at rich@applause-tickets.com .

Broadway Tickets By Phone. Could buying tickets for Broadway get any cooler than it is?

Jersey Boys on Broadway-Applause Has Amazing Seats at Great Rates

I just saw the new Las Vegas version of the Broadway mega hit Jersey Boys at the brand new Palazzo Hotel, sister to the Venetian Hotel. The running time is 2 hours and 10 minutes and is just about as strong a production as the show on Broadway. The audience really took very kindly to the show and I am sure it will be playing in Las Vegas for many years to come.

Applause Theatre Service provides theatre tickets for every Broadway show in New York as well as shows playing all around the country. If you need amazing seats for Jersey Boys in New York or out in Las Vegas, you may simply call upon the friendly staff of Applause locally at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 1-800-451-9930.

Wicked On Broadway-One of the Greatest Broadway Shows to Ever Play in New York City

I just read that come January 2009, after 1500 performances in the city of Chicago, Wicked will play its final performance in the Windy City. Not to worry Wicked fans as we will still be offering the best seats and prices for the New York production of this outstanding Broadway show.

Chicago is less than 2 hours away by jet plane so consider getting a decent airfare and give the friendly people at Applause Theatre Service a call at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930 and securing seats for what I think is one of the greatest American musicals ever, Wicked.

Applause Theatre Service is located in the heart of New York City and is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Their local phone is 212-307-7050 and the Applause staff just loves to talk to people about Broadway Theater.

Applause has recently launched a mobile phone friendly web site appropriately called Broadway Tickets By Phone which will allow consumers to access the company's up to date Broadway Show listings and inventory access.

South Pacific, In The Heights and Boeing Boeing on Broadway-Are these shows the "triple threat" of Broadway

I think I just made up a new tag line in the Broadway Show business called "triple threat". Call me crazy but after seeing nearly 30 shows this year on Broadway, I do indeed have my favorites. My friends all know that mostly I like just about everything I get to see.

Truth be told, my vote for the Rich Gladstone "triple threat" of Broadway Show Awards goes to
South Pacific, which I think will win this years Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. It's a very cute story about American soldiers on a Polynesian island in World War Two. Buy yourself some tickets to this grand old fashioned piece of Broadway musical theatre. You'll thank me for it, believe me you will. In fact, call me at the office at 212-307-7050 or email me at rich@applause-tickets.com to drop me a line about what you think.

If you want to see one of the most incredible pieces of modern day theatre, you should consider buying some seats for In The Heights, my choice to win the coveted Tony Award for the 2008 Best Musical. In The Heights is a great new show that came up from Off Broadway last year about the wonderfully warm people that live in Washington Heights in New York City. The story is told through very fun and clean Rap and Latin music by the locals that live there. You get to know the local bodega owner who sells the coffee and candy from his store as well as the local car service and the people that work there. Wait till you get to meet the gals at the local "beauty parlor", a real treat for sure. it's not your old fashioned musical but it is a jaunt into something truly original in the theatre that doesn't come along all that often. My friend and co-worker Jay says it is his favorite show now in addition to RENT. I wonder if its his love of modern music that he feels this way.

How about seeing this year's comedy revival called Boeing Boeing, a very funny and wacky look at an American bachelor living in Paris as he wines and dines 3 beautiful girlfriends, all working for different airlines. Hoping they don't find out about each other, he creates the perfect playboy lifestyle. Bradley Whitford of the West Wing television series and Christine Baranski star. Will the bachelor keep it all together or will he have to deal with flight delays and other things beyond his control that will make it hard to keep the girlfriends from finding out about each other? The gorgeous and talented girls are worth the price of admission but honestly, dollar for dollar, this is the best value on Broadway. As the Beach Boys always sang, "fun, fun, fun". Go get yourself some tickets for Boeing Boeing. Let me know how you enjoyed it. I am planning on going back again soon.

Oh, I almost forgot. If you are looking for a trustworthy personal ticket service provider for these shows, look no further. Give the friendly staff at Applause Theatre Service in New York City a call locally at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930. There is no pressure to buy and they know the best times and dates to get you the best seats at the best prices.

This fun loving expert group of Broadway ticket experts just launched a brand new "mobile phone friendly" web site called Broadway Tickets By Phone. You may want to add us to your phone contacts. if you, family or friends need a reliable ticket service, we would love to be there for you.

We hope you love the theatre as much as we do. And my friends, we hope to hear from you very soon. Let us help you see some outstanding Broadway theater.

Sincerely,
Rich Gladstone

Is It Really Patti LuPone's Turn At This Years Tony Awards?

Tony nominations in 26 categories were announced last Tuesday, but among diva-worshipping Broadway fanatics, only one award sets off a great debate: Leading Actress in a Musical. Patti LuPone, in Gypsy, http://www.applause-tickets.com/gypsy.asp Kelli O’Hara, in South Pacific, http://www.applause-tickets.com/south-pacific.asp and Faith Prince, in A Catered Affair, http://www.applause-tickets.com/catered-affair.asp are all beloved musical-comedy actresses, and all three performances (and two of the three shows) drew enormous raves. (Most agree that the other two nominees, Kerry Butler, in the fluffy spoof Xanadu, http://www.applause-tickets.com/xanadu.asp and Jenna Russell, in Sunday in the Park With George, http://www.applause-tickets.com/sunday-in-the-park-with-george.asp turned in strong performances but don’t stand a chance.) Here is a look at the race after reading a lot of Tony gossip and where the voters might be leaning.

THE DIVA Patti LuPone
TONY READINESS Painfully ready. Hasn’t won since 1980 for Evita; was nominated in ’88 for Anything Goes and came close in ’06 for Sweeney Todd. “She’s the biggest Tony loser [of recent decades], so it’s her turn.”
SINGING As usual, a vocal tsunami, if occasionally lacking clarity. “Gypsy’s the hardest show [of the three] to sing because of those two monster numbers.” “She does ‘Rose’s Turn’ brilliantly—breaks up in the middle and has a fit.” “From a purely vocal point of view, it’s rough going” for her.
ACTING Overcame a slight shtickiness in last year’s Encores! run to slam-dunk a visceral, complex Mama Rose, a huge, Lear-like role. “We saw vulnerability and flaws and cracks in the armor.” “You know you’ll see her go insane, hit those notes.”
INDUSTRY GOODWILL Once flagging, now revived. “Sweeney Todd engendered a lot of goodwill; there she was, lugging that tuba around.” “The question is whether she’s annoyed enough people.” “This is probably her last big shot.”

THE DIVA Faith Prince
TONY READINESS Somewhat ready. Won in 1992 for her much-loved Adelaide in Guys and Dolls; nominated in ’01 for Bells Are Ringing. “We love that Faith Prince is back on Broadway.”
SINGING Fine, workmanlike performance of a quiet score. “She sings it nicely, but doesn’t have anything interesting to sing.” “She’ll say herself she doesn’t consider herself a real singer.” “Not particularly challenging compared to the competition.”
ACTING Unimpeachable, nuanced delivery of lead in glum anti-musical. “Very heartfelt, but perhaps the whole show is a little too sincere.” “When you’re sleeping, you can’t [judge] acting.”
INDUSTRY GOODWILL Strong despite a stint in L.A. “People love her, but you can’t transcend a show that most people think, ‘Why is this on Broadway?’ ” “That’s not fair, but that’s how it works.”

THE DIVA Kelli O’Hara
TONY READINESS Not urgently ready. No prior Tony, but nominated twice in recent years, for The Light in the Piazza and The Pajama Game. “I don’t think there’s a groundswell yet.” “She’s young—she’s not going anywhere.”
SINGING Lovely voice, in a role sung with some understatement and minimal brass. “The best vocal performance of the three—Kelli is a real singer.” “Pitch-perfect—I think she’s flawless.” “I thought she was boring. I don’t love her voice.”
ACTING Brought winning self-awareness to a dated role; perhaps a bit too low-key. “Delightful, but Nellie Forbush requires a lot less Sturm und Drang than Mama Rose.” “A little dull.” “There was no way that man would’ve fallen in love with her. Too chipper.”
INDUSTRY GOODWILL Very high; folks call her a hardworking, kind, brainy Broadway sweetheart. “There’s a new crop of blonde sopranos who all come from farms; she’s managed to rise above them.”
THE TAKE-HOME Whom They’d Vote For: Six of eight said Patti. (One said Kerry Butler: “She nailed the Olivia Newton-John accent, and she’s doing it on skates!” And one said Jenna Russell: “She makes you totally forget Bernadette Peters” in the role.)The Likely Winner: Every single respondent said LuPone’s going to win. “She got the New York Times on her side, and now it’s hers to lose.” “Not giving it to her—it’s a slap in her face. Every queen in the world will rise up and shout. Truly.”

Who will win the Best Musical Tony Award in 2008?

I have seen just about every show on Broadway this season except for one I think. I enjoyed all the shows that are in the running to win the much coveted Tony Award in 2008 for Best Musical.

They are:
Cry-Baby
In The Heights
Passing Strange
Xanadu

Although all four of these very unique shows were superb, each in their own unique way, I would cast my vote for In The Heights. This show is about the people that live in Washington Heights, a place where the windows are left open and you buy your coffee from the local bodega owner. It is a place where the music itself gets you feeling the very life and love these people have for their community and for each other. I had a great time with my wife and friends when I first saw the show a few months ago.

It is nominated for 13 Tony Awards and I can see the show winning maybe 5 or 6 of them, especially for 2008 Best Musical. Keep your fingers crossed, I feel a win for In The Heights coming on.

If anyone you know needs excellent seats for any of these Tony Award nominated shows, you can give the trustworthy licensed theatre ticket agents at Applause a call. Their award winning web site is www.applause-tickets.com but these folks love to talk so why not give them a call when you have a few minutes to talk. Their local phone is 212-307-7050 and toll free at 800-451-9930. You'll be gald you called. Satisfaction guaranteed, I promise.

Applause for Consumers-Pay Less for The Best Broadway Seats in the House

Just have a look around the Internet friends as you search web site after web site looking for Broadway tickets and ask yourself just one question. How much time have I spent and still why have I not been able to make a purchase for the seats I need at the price I want to pay. Why does this happen?

I think the answer is that the greatest thing about the Internet may also be the reason why people search and search and still don't get to purchase the very goods and services they really covet. Unfortunately the Internet gives us thousands of possibilities without necessarily leading us to the very best selection to find exactly what you want.

I am sure the Internet guru's will be working on how to give consumers the most specific answers to the question "how can I purchase the best Broadway tickets at the best price along with fast and friendly service? But in the meantime here's a tip for you.

Simply go to www.google.com and type in www.applause-tickets.com. When you see all the show logos along with a picture of our friendly Broadway ticket experts, you should feel comfortable in knowing that you have found the only source you'll need when shopping for the best Broadway Show tickets in New York City.

There is no pressure to make a purchase at Applause. We will answer any question that you may have and even hold tickets for you overnight should you need to make airline and/or hotel reservations.

Why go through the hassle of spending so much time searching for tickets only to be more confused than ever? Simply give a call to the friendly Broadway experts at Applause Theatre Service, right in the heart of New York City at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 1-800-451-9930 seven days a week, 365 days a year.

'Heights' and 'South Pacific' are tops with Tony

As a famous Siamese king once said: "It's a puzzlement." Usually, I have very few quibbles with the Tony nominations. Yet yesterday, around 8:37 a.m. at NYC's Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, when Tony winners — and former Spamalot costars — David Hyde Pierce (left) and Sara Ramirez (a.k.a. Grey's Anatomy's Dr. Torres, right) revealed the contenders in 26 categories, I saw more than a few oversights.
First, I'll give you the big news. The show with the most nominations? In the Heights which netted a staggering 13 nominations, including two for star/writer Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Best Revival of a Musical Nominee 'South Pacific' had a big day as well with 11 nominations including Best Actor, Paul Szot and Best Actress, Kelli O'Hara pictured below. Much deserved for an amazing powerful production!

The four Best Play nominees: Tracy Letts' August: Osage County (the 2008 Pulitzer Prize winner, just named New York Drama Critics Circle's Best Play and my favorite to win a few Tony's), Tom Stoppard's Rock 'n' Roll, Conor McPherson's The Seafarer, both of which have now closed and finally Patrick Barlow's extremely entertaining and my Cinderella favorite to win, The 39 Steps which has just moved to the Cort theatre by popular demand. Best Musical Nominees are as follows: Cry-Baby, In the Heights, Passing Strange, (NYDCC's Best Musical), Xanadu. (A full list of nominees is available at the Tonys' website.)

So who was crying in their corn flakes? Well, surely Mel Brooks. In 2001 his Producers received 15 nominations — and won a record-setting 12, including Best Musical. This year, his Young Frankenstein received just 3 (for featured performers Andrea Martin and Christopher Fitzgerald, plus best scenic design)... and no one's forecasting any wins. It's a shame, because I believe the show deserved better, but Mel put himself in a big hole when he came up with his $450 premium ticket and this Tony committee apparently hasn't forgotten, even though the show is extremely entertaining and now offers many discounts which can be obtained with the Applause Insider Deal. The Catered Affair company no doubt had their fingers crossed for a Best Musical slot, but the chamber piece was passed over for the flashier Cry-Baby. Even Disney's The Little Mermaid deserved a better fate! To over look Sierra Boggess and Sheri Rene Scott who gave two outstanding performances is a crime! It's a musical extravaganza that the whole family is sure to enjoy and remember forever!

It's anyones guess who'll win this year! It could be an In the Heights and South Pacific(the only sure winner in my book) sweep, but my guess is that as in years past, the Tony voters will spread the wealth! It has been the year of the play with so many outstanding performances that come Tony night, we're sure to have many surprise moments! Don't miss it on CBS, Sunday evening June 15th at 8pm with your host(Oops), I meant "Narrator" Whoopi Goldberg!

Please call an Applause Theatre Service sales expert to get your tickets now to all of these celebrated Musicals! 800-451-9930 or 212-307-7050
