Now Is The Best Time To See Mary Poppins On Broadway

Now in it's fourth year on Broadway is Mary Poppins. Now everybody that knows me is aware that I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world. Having said that I really enjoyed Mary Poppins. The fact that the movie was a favorite of mine as a child probably helped. Besides it is one of the few shows running that is perfect for the whole family. Since Shrek closed earlier this year Mary Poppins and The Lion King are really the only shows left. That too me is a shame as there used to be a time when there were anywhere from four to five shows that you could take the whole family to either On or Off-Broadway.

It's just that nowadays shows are just so expensive to produce that unless they are produced well they are just not going to last. Anyway the reason for my blog was to tell you about an incredible offer. Right now you can get tickets to see Mary Poppins at some incredible savings. Look we all know that bringing the whole family to a show can be expensive. Why not save a little money wherever you can? Be advised that this offer is good thru July 4, 2010 and is subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Mary Poppins on Broadway. It will make you feel like a kid again.

Broaway's Newest Hit The Addams Family To Launch National Tour In 2011

That's right theatre fans. One of this season's biggest shows is set to hit the road next year. I am of course talking about The Addams Family. The show which continues to gross over a million dollars a week since it began previews in early March is a crowd pleaser despite receiving mixed reviews from the critics. Don't forget there was another show that opened a few years ago to same type of reviews and went on to become one of Broadway's biggest hits. You might have heard of it. Wicked. Take that critics.

Anyway it was announced today that The Addams Family will premier at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre for the Performing Arts in New Orleans in September 2011. As of right now no casting has been announced for the tour however the official tour schedule is expected to be announced shortly. Now how well the show will do on the road is anyone's guess. Right now it is hard for me to imagine anybody else playing the iconic roles of Gomez and Morticia other than Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth. Either way I expect The Addams to be a big hit when it opens next year.

Customer Story

I know. I know. It's been almost three weeks since my last customer story. As I said in my blog yesterday I was on vacation therefore I wasn't here and consequently didn't talk to any customers. So anyway yesterday was my first day back which is why I am sharing this blog with you today. It was actually my first call of the day and a gentleman called looking for two tickets to Mamma Mia for him and his wife for a Friday night in May. I asked him what date he was available to go and if he had a specific price or type of seats in mind.

He had mentioned that he called the day before and that Carol in my office had quoted him a price of $97. Believe it or not most of our new customers don't buy the first time they call. Like most people they shop around until the find the best deal. Makes sense right? Trust me. I do the same thing when I shop. Anyway back to our story. I got him the seats at the price he wanted plus I got him closer to the stage then I had originally anticipated. By the way that "special price" that I told you about is lower than the prices at the box office. Now how about that? So there you are my friends. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

2010 Tony Nominations To Be Announced Next Week

That's right theatre fans. The 2009-2010 Broadway season officially ends today with the opening of Everyday Rapture. Since the season kicked off on July 25,2009 with Burn The Floor over forty new shows opened this season on Broadway. Of those new shows the only ones that were hits at the box office were the already closed revivals of Hamlet and A View From The Bridge as well as A Steady Rain and and Broadway's newest smash The Addams Family.

Now while reviews were mixed for the new revival of Fences it doesn't matter because as we all know that the only reason people are going is to see Denzel Washington on stage. Yes I know there are other shows that did well but we all know that success is measured by how many tickets you sell not what the critics say. Now here are my picks of what I think will be nominated this coming Tuesday. Just remember this is what I expect to get nominated not what I hope will be nominated. Here we go.

Best Musical
The Addams Family
American Idiot
Fela!
Memphis

Best Play
A Behanding In Spokane
Enron
Next Fall
Red

Best Musical Revival
La Cage Aux Folles
A Little Night Music
Promises,Promises
Ragtime or Finian's Rainbow(Sorry but I couldn't choose and we all know that Bye Bye Birdie doesn't have a chance in hell.)

Best Play Revival
Lend Me A Tenor
A View From The Bridge
Fences
Hamlet

Best Actor In A Musical
Nathan Lane-The Addams Family
Sahr Ngaljah-Fela!
Douglas Hodge-La Cage aux Folles
Chad Kimball-Memphis
Sean Hayes-Promises,Promises

Best Actress In A Musical
Catherine Zeta-Jones-A Little Night Music
Kate Bladwin-Finian's Rainbow
Montego Glover-Memphis
Kristen Chenoweth-Promises,Promises
Christiane Noll-Ragtime

Best Actor In A Play

Liev Schreiber-A View From The Bridge

Best Actress In A Play

Well those are my picks in all the major categories. I'm sure I will be wrong about a few. We will find out on May 4th. Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway Grosses

Yes I know I am a little late with last week's grosses. However I did have a good excuse. I haven't been in the office since April 17. No I wasn't sick. Just visiting the parental units back in Illinois for nine days. Now I'm back and ready to blog. The funny thing is I actually missed it. Anyway on to last week's figures.Like past week's there were five shows that hit the one million mark. They were Wicked,Jersey Boys,The Addams Family,The Lion King and Billy Elliot. No surprises there. Plus eight shows grossed over $700,00 for the week ending April 25. Here are those shows.

American Idiot

Come Fly Away

Fences

Mamma Mia

Mary Poppins

Promises,Promises

The Phantom of the Opera

West Side Story

Now out of all of those shows the one that surprises me the most is Come Fly Away. For a show that didn't get good reviews it sure is a big seller. Not only that but the show was the sixth highest grossing show on Broadway and they were only at 73.9%. I guess there are more Frank Sinatra fans out there than I thought. Now of the shows that I mentioned five of those are ones that opened during the 2009-2010 season. By the way the Broadway season officially ends today with the opening of Everyday Rapture. Next up. The 2009-2010 Tony nominations. Let the games begin. Until next time theatre fans.

How to Pick the Best Broadway Tickets in New York for Everyone – Applause-Tickets.com

Your taste in a Broadway musical is probably pretty different from your macho boyfriend. Use this fool proof guide to learn how to pick the right show for everyone.

Picking the Perfect Broadway Show in New York

Planning any kind of event can be daunting – especially when you’re planning for a group of people with picky or different tastes from your own. The pressure is on even higher when you are planning a trip. If you are currently planning a trip to New York and are planning on purchasing Broadway tickets, this short guide is for you. Our philosophy on picking the perfect New York Broadway tickets is simple: you don’t have the exact same taste as your grandmother or boyfriend in food and music, so why would you have the same taste in Broadway musicals? The beauty of Broadway is that there is absolutely something for everyone, even the person who supposedly “doesn’t like musicals”. In our humble opinion, there is no such thing as someone who hates all musicals; it’s just a matter of finding the right one.
  1. Your Grandmother: Grandma is probably an easy Broadway target. She is going to respond to the long running, classic shows. Don’t even think about taking her to see something edgy and off-Broadway (unless you have the coolest grandma around). Stick to Phantom of the Opera, Jersey Boys, or Mamma Mia!. She will love the beautiful sets, memorable songs, and familiar stories.
  2. Your Ten Year Old Niece: Kids and Broadway are like peanut butter and jelly. Get them started young and you will create a theater fan for life. There are a handful of kid friendly productions at any given time. Think Disney on Broadway like The Lion King or Mary Poppins. If Disney isn’t their thing, there are usually other fun productions like The Addams Family.
  3. Your Best Friend: I can’t think of a better girl’s night out than dinner out on the town and a pair of Broadway Tickets in New York City. The possibilities are endless for this category. You can probably get away with the most creative and edgy productions with a daring best friend. Consider any of the amazing Off-Broadway productions on stage at any given time, like Avenue Q. If she is into more classic musicals, take her to see Wicked, Billy Elliot: The Musical, or Chicago.
  4. Your ‘Anti-Broadway’ Boyfriend: The anti-Broadway boyfriend is seemingly complicated but actually very simple. Once you convince him to actually go to a show, be sure to pick one that isn’t classically Broadway. There are tons of shows that are edgy, masculine, and surprisingly relatable for non Broadway theater geeks. West Side Story is a classic Broadway musical that anyone can enjoy. Also consider choices like Blue Man Group and Stomp. These Off-Broadway productions are more performance art than musical and might appeal to your boyfriend.
The main thing to remember when picking out Broadway tickets in New York is that there are dozens of different choices at any given time. Take the time to speak to an expert or read online about a few different choices. You are bound to find a show that will please everyone. Remember, in New York City the possibilities are endless!

Take your Family to see a Disney Broadway Show today! –Applause-Tickets.com

Broadway and Disney is a match made in make-believe heaven! Check out Mary Poppins or The Lion King today with your family. Find these tickets and more at Applause-Tickets.com!

Broadway Disney shows are not just for kids.

Disney has always been the crowned king of fantasy and make-believe. Children just can’t get enough of their animated and live action movies. The not so hidden secret of Disney is that their movies are just as fun and entertaining for adults as they are for children. The characters are relatable, the stories are fun and emotional at the same time, and the songs are completely addicting. Entire families have been known to learn every single word of every single song of certain Disney classics. It’s natural that Disney and Broadway eventually decided to team up. Broadway is known for over the top productions, beautiful sets, top talent, and unforgettable songs. Converting classic Disney movies like The Lion King and Mary Poppins into live action Disney Broadway shows was seamless and unbelievably successful.

When most people think of Broadway, long running productions like Phantom of the Opera and South Pacific come to mind. A show only lasts as long as people are still going to see it. Long running shows have impeccable reputations and gain new fans every day that their name is up on the marquee. More recently, Broadway Disney shows like The Lion King and Mary Poppins are also being recognized as long running successful productions. This is due to the unbelievable commercial success of Disney movies.  Mary Poppins was released in film in 1964 but its message and characters are still relevant today. The Broadway version of the show is fast paced, high flying, and chock full of the classic Mary Poppins songs that children and their parents absolutely love.

Applause-Tickets believes wholeheartedly that you can’t go wrong when you purchase tickets to a Disney Broadway show. Disney magic combined with Broadway pizzazz turns out to be a perfect match. Call one of our live operators today to let them help you decide which Disney Broadway show is right for you!

Enron on Broadway

I saw ENRON last night and found it to be a fascinating theatrical spectacle, which tells the tale of the Enron disaster. It looks at the collapse of the Texas energy company in the 1990s and is an interesting exploration of corporate greed that has certainly affected our world and the circumstances we are in today. Told through songs, dance, and a bevy of multi-media visuals it is entertaining from start to finish.

I couldn't help but be angry, as you watch this powerful drama about the arrogance and greed played out before you. I think it is important for every individual to see and know that this is exactly why we are in the economic disaster we are in today.

It may have started with Enron, but it didn't end there. Each and everyday more and more economic fraud is being uncovered. While arrogant, greedy corporate scum are making millions...they are lying, deceiving and taking advantage of the world.
My point is...I think this is an important piece for theatregoers today. It has a wonderful way of presenting an eye opening experience to the public, and with an extraordinary theatrical flair.

If you have the chance...go! Don't miss this!

The Addams Family for the whole family

The new Musical The Addams Family could well be one of the most satisfying family experiences on Broadway this season. Recognizable characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams and made famous by television and movies these Addamses are today's disfunctional family who are slightly kooky and slighlty spooky but still seem to understand what good family values are all about.
Even Grandmama tries to educate Pugsley with "Stop texting and pick up a book once in a while".
I have seen the show twice and found it to be delightfully funny. Despite lukewarm to scathing revues this show has audience appeal. Both times I saw the show the audience responded with uproarious laughter as well as an instant standing ovation.
It showcases Nathan Lane as Gomez Addams, as well as Bebe Neuwirth as his lovely morbid wife Morticia. But this cast is well rounded and everyone has their shining moment...Particularly Kevin Chamberlin as Uncle Fester and Jackie Hoffman as Grandmama. Don't think twice...if you are going to New York City and you want to take the family to see something special, then book your tickets now.

Broadway Revival Of La Cage Aux Folles To Open Tomorrow

Having seen the last revival of La Cage Aux Folles five years ago I wasn't sure that Broadway was ready for or even needed another one. Now while the show won two Tony Awards that year including Best Musical Revival it was a financial flop and closed a little over seven months into it's run. Therefore when it was announced I was a little skeptical as I'm sure most people were. By now everybody knows the reason the show is coming back to Broadway is due to the recent London production which won several major awards and was a favorite of critics and audiences alike.

The show which opened at London's Chocolate Menier Factory in 2008 is the version that will be seen on Broadway. The last show that transferred from there was the highly successful revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park With George which was one of the best shows that I have ever seen. Will lighting strike twice? You're guess is as good as mine. Leading the cast for this new production is Douglas Hodge who won an Olivier Award for his performance as Albin and five-time Emmy Award winner Kelsey Grammar as his lover Georges. Reviews come out this Monday. Until next time theatre fans.

Applause Theatre Service And Tickets To Wicked

It's hard to believe it's been six and half years since Wicked first premiered on Broadway. You know most people forget that the show got mixed reviews when it first opened in October 2003. Yet from the day it started it has been breaking box office records around the world. Take that critics. I first saw the show during previews and while I enjoyed it I never thought it would become the big hit that it has become.

In fact I don't think anyone could have expected that. Now for those of you who still haven't seen Wicked or for those of you who are dying to see it again then you have come to the right place. Here at Applause we can get you tickets to see Wicked not only on Broadway but now in London and every city in between. Sounds to good to be true?

Not at Applause. Want to see Wicked next week? No problem. How about tickets for Thanksgiving or Christmas week? Oh sure they may be months away but it's never too late to plan ahead. Get your tickets to see Wicked on Broadway or at a city near you. It is the world's most popular musical after all. Until next time theatre fans.

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

Having worked at Applause for six years now I can honestly tell you that I have heard and seen it all. I've seen great shows that got amazing reviews and yet struggled to find an audience. I've also seen shows that while not my cup of tea run for years and years. Now in my eighteen years of living in New York City my favorite show is still Rent. It has been ever since I first saw it back in April 1996. In fact I still have the ticket stub from that performance. Make fun all you will but that show changed my life as well as the lives of millions of others. If not for Rent my own musical Avarice would never exist.

Earlier this week I had the chance to see a new musical called American Idiot. For those of you that don't know it is based on Green Day's Grammy Award winning album of the same name. Walking into the show I was a familiar with a few songs but that was about this. Also I had the chance to attend the sound check of the show prior to it's first preview in late March. Now I'll be the first to admit that about twenty minutes into the show I just wasn't getting it. That didn't mean I hated it I just wasn't feeling it. Well just then the song "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" started and for the first time I started to see the show in a whole new light. Here are some lyrics from the song.

I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
and I'm the only one and I walk alone

O.K. so maybe it's not the most uplifting song in the world but I liked it. Cut to twenty minutes later I was totally hooked. Is the show perfect? No. The story can be a little muddled at time but as far as the overall presentation and performances the show is a winner. As I said in one of my blogs earlier this week I expect American Idiot to win this years Tony Award for Best Musical. So I'm sure you must be asking yourself,"Has American Idiot surpassed Rent as my favorite show?"

No. Rent is still number one with In The Heights and Passing Strange at number two and three. Although American Idiot is certainly up there my friends. Like I said Rent is still my favorite. Nothing will ever change that. But I will admit it's nice to see something new and original again on Broadway instead of cartoons and movies turned into musicals. Yes I know that they have a place on Broadway just like revivals do. You see that's the good thing about Broadway. There is something for everybody. So see a Broadway show. It is an experience that you will never forget.

Now Is The Best Time To Save on Some Of Broadway's Biggest Hits

Can you believe that the 2009-2010 Broadway season is almost over? It seems like just yesterday I was watching Billy Elliot beat Next To Normal for the Tony Award for Best Musical. Now here we are almost eleven months later and we are entering the final stretch before the cutoff date of April 29. In fact between now and then there are eight shows still to open before then. They are:

La Cage Aux Folles
American Idiot
Sondheim on Sondheim
Promises,Promises
Fences
Enron
Collected Stories
Everyday Rapture

Now of all those shows the only one that I have seen is American Idiot. I saw the show two days ago and thought it was one of the most brilliant things that I have ever seen. In fact I will make a prediction right now and say that American Idiot will win the Tony Award for Best Musical.

Except for American Idiot the other shows that I want to see are Fences because it stars one of my favorite actor's Mr. Denzel Washington and Everyday Rapture because it got fantastic reviews when it ran last year Off-Broadway. By the way if you need tickets to any of these shows don't forget to call one of the friendly ticket experts at Applause for all your ticket needs. That's what we do. Until next time theatre fans.

Fences Starring Denzel Washington Begins Previews Tonight On Broadway

Well unless you've been living under a rock for the past few months then I'm sure you've heard that two-time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington is making his return to the Broadway stage this Spring in August Wilson's revival of Fences. The show which begins previews tonight at the Cort Theatre is scheduled to run thru July 11 only. That means you only have less then three months to get your tickets to one of this season's most highly anticipated new shows.

Now while tickets for most dates are difficult to get the good news is that because the Cort Theatre is so small there really isn't a bad seat in the house. In fact I saw a show there a few years ago from the Balcony which is the third level in that theatre and I saw perfectly. Plus by sitting upstairs you save more as well. You see it's a win-win situation. Get your tickets to see Fences on Broadway. I'm going that's for sure. Who knows? Maybe I'll see you there. Until next time theatre fans.

Save On West Side Story This Spring

That's right theatre fans. Now is the best time to get your tickets to see West Side Story on Broadway. The show which recently celebrated it's first year on the Great White Way continues to be one of Broadway's highest grossing shows. Growing up the movie was one of my favorites and although nothing will compare to that this new revival sure does it's best to live up to it. Besides incredible choreography the real standout is Karen Olivo who won a Tony Award for her portrayal as Anita. She is worth the price of admission alone. Now as I was saying if you are looking for tickets to see this Tony Award winning musical then you have come to the right place my friends. From now thru May 30 you can get tickets to see West Side Story on Broadway for prices that are below face value.Be advised that this special offer is not good for Saturday evenings and is subject to availability. In The Heights Movie On Track

This is great news for all you In The Heights fans. Those of you who read my blogs know how much I love the show and I really hope that the film is a big success. It was announced today that Marc Klein, whose writing credits include "Serendipity,"A Good Year," and the upcoming "TNI" has been hired to adapt the musical for the big screen. Universal Pictures who is producing the film had originally hired the musicals book writer and Tony nominee Quiara Alegria Hudes to pen the screenplay but have now opted to bring in Klein instead. According to an article in Variety it was to"give the priority project a fresh set of eyes." It was also announced that the musicals creator and original star Lin-Manuel Miranda will reprise hie role of Usnavi for the film. Shooting is set to begin in New York this August. I can't wait.

Next To Normal Wins Pulitzer Prize

It was just announced today that Next To Normal has won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The show which recently celebrated it's first year on Broadway is the first musical to win the coveted prize since Rent won in 1996. Finalists were The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity by Kristoffer Diaz; Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo by Rajiv Joseph; and In the Next Room or the vibrator play by Sarah Ruhl. As I've posted in previous blogs about the show Next To Normal is by far one of the best shows that I have seen in all my years in New York. Being a composer of my own musical Avarice I am pleased to see a show as original Next To Normal become as successful as it has. Let's hope this much deserved award will translate into more ticket sales for this groundbreaking musical. For those of you who haven't seen the show I highly encourage you do on your next visit to New York. It is a must see.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Minnesota. Last week I got a call from a customer who was looking to come to New York in June and wanted to see four shows while she and her family were her. The shows she wanted to see were Wicked,The Lion King,Phantom, and Love,Loss and What I Wore. We started with Wicked first as it is the most popular show. I was able to find her seats in the second row of the Front Mezzanine which by the way is the best place to see the show.

Next up was The Lion King. Once again I got her great seats in the Front Mezzanine and at a price that was lower then what she was expecting. Two down. Two more to go. Since The Phantom of the Opera has been on Broadway for twenty-years I figured that not only would I be able to get her amazing seats but at a price that was below face value. Sure enough I got her Orchestra seats on the aisle for $110 each. Last but not least was Love,Loss and What I Wore.

For those of you that are not familiar with the show it is a new play written by Nora and Delia Ephron which is based on the best-selling book of the same name. Every four weeks a new cast of all-star actresses are brought in to perform the piece. Anyway once again I was able to secure seats at a price that was lower then she would find anywhere else. So there you are. Four great shows with excellent seats for all of them. Plus I was able to help her find the best restaurants to check out while she and her family were here. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

The Addams Family Reviews

Well the reviews for The Addams Family are in and as much as I hate to say it they are not very good. In the grand scheme of things I don't think it will matter that much in the long run. As I've stated in my blog about the show earlier this week the show has continued to gross over a million dollars every week and has a sizable advance. Take that critics. Anyway here are the reviews. Take them with a grain of salt. Don't forget Wicked got bad reviews too. Until next time theatre fans.

Three Reasons Why New York Broadway Tickets are the Hottest Goods in Town – Applause-Tickets

There are a ton of things to do and see in New York City. Applause-Tickets is here to tell you why Broadway tickets are the hottest commodity in the city.

Three Reasons Why New York Broadway Tickets are the Hottest Commodity in Town.

Don’t leave a visit to the city without seeing a Broadway show.

There are about a million reasons to visit New York City. It is one of the most dynamic, fast paced and exciting cities on earth. Some of the best food, greatest art, and most famous attractions are housed in this great American city. Above all, New York City has Broadway, home to the most famous and impressive shows on the planet. Here at Applause-Tickets, we want to list five reasons why you absolutely, positively cannot visit New York without buying Broadway tickets.

  1. The Musicals: Some of the most famous and beloved songs on earth were born on Broadway. You hum them at your desk at work, belt them in the shower, and sing them in your car. Your child knows them, your grandmother adores them and your wife cannot live without them. Purchasing tickets to a Broadway musical is buying admission to witness history in the making (and to have a great time doing it!)
  2. The Actors: Theater acting is one of the most difficult professions on earth and Broadway is home to the world’s greatest theater actors. To be a successful Broadway actor, you must be an actor, singer, and dancer, all rolled in to one. Some of these actors go on to become the most famous actors on the silver screen. The only way to see this kind of talent is to buy New York Broadway tickets and witness the show for yourself.
  3. The Energy: As I mentioned earlier, New York City is one of the most exciting cities on the planet full of energy, lights, and glamour. Broadway is located at the very center of this excitement. The lights and marquees of Broadway theaters are the very embodiment of the city. You cannot think of New York without also thinking of the famous shows that call this city their home. There simply isn’t a more exciting way to spend 3 hours in this city than at a Broadway show.
Call Applause-Tickets at 1-800-451-9930 today to speak to one of our local Broadway experts. They are standing by to help you find the New York Broadway tickets that are right for you.

Applause and Off-Broadway Theatre

Having been in the ticket selling business for over ten years now I would have to say that most of our calls and or ticket requests are for the Broadway theatre. I mean let's be honest. When most people think of New York theatre the first thing that comes to their mind is Broadway. Makes sense right? Now don't get me wrong. I love going to see a Broadway show. After all it was the dream of performing on the Great White Way that drew me me to New York in the first place. The thing is that while Broadway brings in the most revenue they aren't the only game in town.

I am of course talking about Broadway's little brother Off-Broadway. Although when you think about it it's not so little anymore my friends. In fact some of the most innovative not to mention original plays or musicals can be found near or below forty deuce. That's 42nd Street for those of you not familiar with street lingo. In fact there are over thirty shows playing Off-Broadway at this very moment. With that many shows to choose from how ever will you decide? That's easy. All you have to do is call one of the friendly ticket experts at Applause and we can assist you with all your ticket needs. Support Off-Broadway. Who knows? You might even like it. I know I do.

Rock Of Ages Celebrates Milestone

Has it really been a year since Rock of Ages opened on Broadway? It seems like just yesterday that I was seeing it for the first time and yet here we are twelve months later and the show is celebrating it's first anniversary on the Great White Way. Now for those of you who haven't seen the show yet then I have just one thing to say. "Get off your a** and head on over to the Brooks Atkinson Theatre to see Rock of Ages". By the way for those of you that are dying to see the show then you have come to the right place my friends. From now thru June 13 the friendly ticket experts at Applause can get you tickets to see Rock of Ages on Broadway at prices that are....wait for it....below face value. The Addams Family To Open Tomorrow Night On Broadway

That's right theatre fans. The wait is over. One of this season's most highly anticipated shows is finally set to open on the Great White Way. I am of course talking about The Addams Family. The show which began previews at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre back on March 8 is poised to be not only one of this season's biggest hits but one of the biggest hits to open on Broadway in years. Since it began it has continued to gross over a millions dollars every week with reports that the show has an advance of over fifteen million dollars. Not too bad for a show that didn't get the greatest reviews when it opened in Chicago this past November.

Now of course having two big Broadway stars like Tony Award winners Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth certainly helps. Now what the critics will say is anybody's guess. Ny guess is that The Addams Family will be one of the those rare shows that will be a success no matter what the critics say. Don't forget that Wicked didn't get very good reviews and it continues to sell out night after night since it opened over six years ago. Will The Addams Family have the same luck? We will soon find out. Be sure to check out Friday's blog as I will post the reviews. Here's to the cast and crew of The Addams Family. Break a leg.

Theater geeks are hiding in plain sight. It could be your co worker who is always humming a tune you can’t quite place at work. It’s even your next door neighbor John who always seems to be a little happier than everyone else after a trip into the city. Each of these people is hiding something inside that you would never guess: They are simply mad over Broadway theater shows.

For some people, the bug is planted very early at their first live performance of Phantom of the Opera. For others, it comes later when they catch a production of South Pacific at their local community theater. No matter how it happened, each of these people can’t imagine anything more magical, more delightful, or more special than a trip to a Broadway show. For their next birthday or Christmas present, consider buying them something that would mean the world to them: tickets to a New York City Broadway show from Applause-Tickets.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from La Jolla,California. She called me on Saturday looking for tickets to see The Addams Family and Lend Me A Tenor. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure to see either show I can tell tell you that they are truly two of the funniest shows that you will ever see.

Now while the Addams Family has been playing less then a month it is one of Broadway's hottest shows with tickets sales reaching over a million dollars a week and an a supposed advance of over fifteen million. A week earlier she had purchased Premium tickets for Promises,Promises while she was here an wanted to know if I could do the same for The Addams Family.

I told here that would be no problem and I was able to secure two excellent seats on the aisle in the Orchestra for much less then she thought it would be. Well now that those tickets were taken care of we moved on to Lend Me A Tenor.

At first she said she wanted Premium but I told her that since it was a little less popular then The Addams Family I could still get her great seats but at a price that was below face value. Well she loved that. Once again I was able to get her great seats on an aisle at the lower price. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

La Cage Aux Folles To Begin Previews Tonight On Broadway

Now while I still think it is too soon for another La Cage Aux Folles revival I am willing to give it a chanch. After all where else are you going to see five-time Emmy winner Kelsey Grammer in a big splashy Broadway musical? This new revival is based on the highly successful London production that opened to rave reviews in 2008 at the Menier Chocolate Factory. That production won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival as well as Best Actor for Douglas Hodge who is recreating the role of Albin for the Broadway revival.

Opening night is set for April 18, 2010 at the Longacre Theatre. The last revival opened in December 2004 and while it won the Tony Award for Best Revival it closed within six months. Will this production suffer the same fate or will this new production be one of the biggest hits of the season? With only two other revivals still running it definitely has a good shot. Not only that but the last show that transferred from the Menier Chocolate Factory was the highly successful revival of Sunday in the Park With George which was one of the best things that I have ever seen. Here's hoping lighting strikes twice. We shall see.

Looped To Close This Sunday

Another one bites the dust. O.K. so maybe that was a little harsh but when you consider that Looped is the third show to close within the last two weeks it is not a good sign. Now granted all three shows closed because of mixed reviews and poor ticket sales. After all that's the reason all shows close right?

The good thing is there are nine more shows left to open before the end of this month. Which will fail and which will succeed? Well if I was a betting man I would say that The Addams Family,American Idiot,Fences, and Enron will be the big winners with the new revival of Promises,Promises close behind. Let the games begin. Until next time theatre fans.

New Cirque du Soleil Show OZO To Open This April

Two Cirque du Soleil shows in the same month? Are there that many people out there dying to see a bunch of performers do crazy acrobatics while wearing colorful yet weird costumes? Well evidently they do. That is of course if their other show Banana Shpeel actually opens. I mean it's only been postponed four times. Anyway their other show OZO is set to open on April 9th at the Under The Big Top at Randall's Island Park. Right now the show is scheduled to run thru June 6 but due to the popularity of Cirque du Soleil I would not be surprised if it is extended beyond that.

According to a press release OVO is "a headlong rush into a colourful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement. The insects' home is a world of biodiversity and beauty filled with noisy action and moments of quiet emotion. When a mysterious egg appears in their midst, the insects are awestruck and intensely curious about this iconic object that represents the enigma and cycles of their lives. It’s love at first sight when a gawky, quirky insect arrives in this bustling community and a fabulous ladybug catches his eye – and the feeling is mutual".

Like so many other Cirque du Soleil productions in the past I expect this one to be a big seller so don't wait too long to get tickets. Call Applause now and get your tickets to see OZO. Don't forget that their other show is set to begin previews later on this month at the Beacon Theatre. Who knows? It might surprise us and turn out to be a big fat hit. Stranger things have happened.

New York Mets Tickets Now On Sale

"Meet the Mets. Meet the Mets. Step Right up and greet the Mets." That's right.Baseball season is just around the corner. To be perfectly honest I am not a baseball fan. In fact the only New York team I support are the New York Knicks. Yes I know we may not be the best team in the league but we are certainly not the worst. Take that New Jersey Nets. Now while I may not follow the sport I know there are millions of fans who do. Claudia Bombeck who sits at the cubicle across from me is a huge Mets fan.

In fact she already has her tickets for Opening Day this Monday. Being the "Mets Maniac" that she is she got her tickets well in advance. But let's say you are coming into the city last minute and want to obtain tickets yourself? Well it's easier than you think. All it takes is one phone call to the ticket experts at Applause and before you can say "Hisanori Takahashi" tickets to see the Mets can be yours. I told you it was easy. Get your tickets to see the New York Mets at Citi Field. Who knows? You might even see Claudia at the game. Just look for the girl in the Mets cap.

Applause Theatre Service Has Tickets For All Events In New York City

Looking for tickets to some of the hottest events in and around New York City? Well my friends you have come to the right place. To be honest when I first started at Applause six years ago I thought that we were primarily a ticket agent for Broadway shows.Oh sure most of our business comes from people wanting tickets to Wicked and Jersey Boys and long running hits like Phantom and The Lion King. That will never change.

But let's say you want tickets to something other than a big Broadway musical? I myself have always wanted to see Bon Jovi in concert but could never find tickets at a reasonable price. Now I myself don't need to be in the first ten rows to enjoy the show but I know there are people out there who do.Not only do we have access to all types of seats but at prices that are usually lower then you will find anywhere else.

The other day we got a call from a travel agent who had a client that was desperate to get her hands on tickets to see Lady Gaga later on this month at Madison Square Garden. We asked where she wanted to sit and after a little bit of research we were able to find her seats for the date she wanted and at a price that was a lot less then she anticipated. See? I told you we sell other things besides theatre tickets. Why not give one of the friendly ticket experts at Applause a call and see what they can do for you. You'll be glad you did.
