Chicago Makes History

That's right theatre fans. One of Broadway's longest running shows is about to reach a milestone. Chicago which will celebrate it's 5,960 performance today is now the fifth longest running show in Broadway history. Who would have though that a show that was overshadowed by A Chorus Line in the late 1970's would become one of Broadway's biggest success stories? I know I sure didn't. Believe it or not but Chicago is only 178 performances away from surpassing A Chorus Line to rank number four on Broadway's all time list. That's less than six months away for those of you keeping track. Now while I enjoyed the show I never thought I would still be talking about it all these years later.Yet here we are some fourteen years later and Chicago is still going strong with no end in sight. Now do I think it will ever surpass Phantom as Broadway's longest running show of all time? Stranger things have happened. Only 3,673 performances to go. Until next time theatre fans.

Rock Of Ages To Resume Performances On Broadway Tonight

Get ready theatre fans. Or should I say rock fans. Your favorite show and mine is set to return to Broadway tonight. The show which first opened Off-Broadway in the fall of 2008 before making the move to the Great White Way in March 2009 is in a word...awesome. Now being a huge fan of 80's rock music I knew I was going to love it. How could you not? Featuring twenty-eight of the best songs from the 1980's Rock of Ages takes place in The Bourbon Room, a bar/club on L.A.'s Sunset Strip.

Now I'll admit that as much as I love the show I wasn't sure if it was the type of show that Broadway audiences usually go for. Well guess what? They have. Not only that but the show is attracting people that might never have gone to a Broadway show in the first place. Face it. Great music is great music. No matter where it comes from.Rock of Ages is a celebration of the 80's and all it's grittiness's.

It's sexy and raunchy and allows you to have fun and let go of all your inhibitions.(It's a good thing they serve alcohol during the show to help you along)Is the show good for young kids? Probably not but why are you taking your kids in the first place? Enjoy a night out on the town for once. Remember what is was like to have fun and let your hair down. That is what Rock of Ages is all about. Bret Michaels got it right."Don't need nothing but a good time." I couldn't have said it better myself.

Customer Story

That's right theatre fans. It's time for this week's customer story. This past Sunday I received a call from one of my regular customers who was planning a last minute trip into the city and wanted to see two shows while she and her husband were here. Now in all the years that I have been providing her with tickets she has never ordered a musical. So imagine my surprise when she called me looking for two tickets to see Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Even though the show had not officially opened yet it is already selling very well. Luckily I was able to find her two seats in the Front Mezzanine.

Now was it dead center? No. Matter a fact it was all the way on the far side. Now I know what you're thinking. Why would I give one of best customer's crappy seats like that? Pardon my language but side Mezzanine at the Palace Theater are not bad seats. Believe it or not but in most theatres side Mezzanine is usually better than side Orchestra. For one you are elevated so you don't have to worry about people sitting in front of you blocking your view. Plus you know that with a musical there are going to be lots of big sets and large production numbers. Now do see why the Mezzanine is better? So anyway after taking care of Priscilla I asked her what she wanted to see for her second show. Wouldn't you know it but it was a play.

Let me guess. You're shocked right? Care to guess what she wanted to see? Let me give you a clue. It's a show that hasn't been revived on Broadway since it's original production and features an all-star cast. Give up? That Championship Season of course. The show which stars Kiefer Sutherland,Chris Noth,Jason Patric,Jim Gaffigan, and Brian Cox is one of this season's hottest selling shows. Now that doesn't mean I couldn't get her tickets. On the contrary. In fact I was able to get her seats ten rows from the stage on the center aisle. Now those are what I call good seats. So there you are. Two hot shows and good seats to boot. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Jefferson,Texas. This past Friday I received a call from a gentleman who was taking his family to London at the end of May and wanted to see a show while he was there. Now while most of our sales come from selling tickets to shows in New York we do sell all shows in London as well. Anyway I asked him what he wanted to see and he said his wife and two daughters really wanted to see Dirty Dancing. Him not too much but since it was his wife's Birthday he didn't really have much choice. Never argue with a woman when it's her Birthday. So now that I knew what he wanted to see it was time ti find out when he was available to go and where he wanted to sit. I told him I should have no problem getting him excellent seats in either the Stalls (Orchestra) or Dress Circle (Mezzanine). Sure enough I was able to get him four seats together in the 10th Row Center of the Stalls. Not only that but at a price he had seen anywhere else. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Five Years And Counting Jersey Boys Is Still A Must See

Has it really been five years since Jersey Boys opened on Broadway? Now if you want to get technical it's actually been five years, four months and seven days but who's counting. The show which won four 2006 Tony Awards including Best Musical of the Year is still one of Broadway's hottest shows. Not bad for a show that most people thought was never going to make it in the first place.

Now come on. Who are you fooling? You didn't expect it to be a big hit either. I mean let's face it for every Mamma Mia or Rock of Ages there is a Lennon or Good Vibrations. That last one was a shout out to my boss Rich Gladstone A.K.A the TicketMan who is the biggest Beach Boys fan on the planet. Now when the show was first announced in early 2005 I didn't think that much of it.

In fact I didn't get around to seeing the show until over two years into it's run. To me a show with so much hype couldn't possibly live up to it right? Wrong!!! What an amazing show. Great music. A talented cast and a story that will inspire and entertain you from beginning to end. How many shows do you know that can do that? Get your tickets to see Jersey Boys on Broadway. Good seats are still available so don't delay. Call now.

2010 Tony Winner Memphis Now Available For Below Face Value

That's right theatre fans. It is now possible to get tickets to see one of Broadway's most celebrated shows. Memphis which won the 2010 Tony Award for Best Musical of the Year is now available at prices that can't be beat. From now thru June 5 you can get tickets to this award winning musical for......wait for it.....below face value. I know what you're thinking. I've lost my mind again. How can I possibly afford to sell tickets at that price? Well unlike most companies that sell tickets on the web we are actually located in New York City. Not only that but we are only steps away from the Broadway theatres. That means not only do we access to the best seats in the house but also at the best prices as well. Sounds like a win-win to me. Get your tickets to see Memphis on Broadway. Deals like these don't come around every day so call now.

Tony Awards Movin' Uptown This Year

Does New York really need another Cirque du Soleil show? I mean let's face it their last attempt at first rate entertainment (Banana Shpeel) didn't exactly have people scrambling to the theatre to buy tickets. More like scramble to get out of there as fast as they could. Now I didn't see the show but from what I heard I really didn't miss anything. Now I know what you're thinking. What does this have to do with this year's Tony Awards? Well as it turns out the geniuses at Cirque du Soleil have decided that the Tri-State area is dying to see another one of their spectacular extravaganzas. Cirque Du Soleil: Zarkana will be hijacking Radio City Music Hall this Summer therefore forcing this year's Tony Awards to move uptown to the Beacon Theatre.

That means fewer seats and more headache for the American Theatre Wing. I'm only guessing about the headache part of course. Now don't get me wrong. I love the Beacon Theatre. Besides I never liked the fact that the show moved to Radio City all those years ago. We can thank Rosie O'Donnell for that one folks. My feeling and I am sure I am not alone in this is that the Tony's should be in a legitimate Broadway house. How ironic is it that this years Tony Awards will emanate from the same theatre that housed Banana Shpeel? Let's hope the Tony's have better luck then them. I guess we can be thankful that the producers of the Tony's did not go with their original choice which was the United Palace in the Bronx. Now that would have been a headache of epic proportions. Until next time theatre fans.

More Spider-Man News

Just when you thought there couldn't possibly be anymore Spider-Man news this week comes the announcement that the show will be shutting down for a period of three weeks next month to "fix" the show. Really? You mean you couldn't get it right the first time? You've only been working on the show for the better part of a decade. Not too mention a record four months of previews. I give up. Just close it and be done with it already. The show which is the most expensive in Broadway history with a reported budget of over $65 million dollars will shut down from Tuesday April 19 to Wednesday May 11 with performances set to resume on May 12. As of now the new opening night is scheduled for June 14. I'll believe it when I see it. Until next time Spidey fans.

Applause Theatre Service And Tickets To Wicked

Don't tell me you still haven't seen Wicked yet. What are you waiting for people? It's only Broadway's most popular show after all. Not to mention one of the highest grossing shows in cities around the world. Now unlike most fans of the show I have only seen it once and that was over seven years ago. Guess it's time to see it again.

Most people tend to forget that the show did not get the greatest reviews when it first opened. Yet here we are still talking about the show all these years later. Who says critic's can't be wrong every once in awhile? In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Wicked one day surpasses Phantom as the longest running show in Broadway history. That's if Phantom ever closes. Oh sure it's got a long way to go but if any show has a chance it's this one.

Now I'm sure you're thinking with all this talk of how popular Wicked is you can't get tickets. On the contrary. In fact good seats are available as we speak. Need tickets for a Saturday night? No problem. How about tickets for Easter weekend? It's a snap. Just give one of the friendly ticket experts at Applause a call and we wil take care of the rest. It's as simple as that. Now as much as I would love to say I told you so. I won't. I've wasted too much time andengery blogging about Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark. Enough. Therefore I will instead post some of the most recent articles pertaining to the show from my favorite columnist and yours Michael Riedel of the NY Post as well as a couple from our friends at the NY Times. Now do I think the show will ever open? At this point I really couldn't give a crap. Just make up your mind. Open or not. I don't care. Just do something and do it sometime this decade. Enjoy!

New Musical Catch Me If You Can Now In Previews

I'll admit that out of all the new musicals set to open this season Catch Me If You Can is the one that I am least looking forward too. Now don't get me wrong. The show will more than likely do very well. How can it not? Music and lyrics by the Tony winning team of Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman (Hairspray). Book by four-time Tony winner Terrence McNally (Master Class, Ragtime).

How about direction by Tony winner Jack O'Brien and Choreography by fellow Tony winner Jerry Mitchell? Not to mention that this new musical is based on the 2002 Oscar nominated movie of the same name. Add that all up and you have the recipe for a hit show. Not so fast. Now while I expect the show to do very well and rack up quite a few Tony nominations it does have some competition. Believe it or not but there are a total of ten new musicals this season along with two revivals.

Now out of those seven three have already closed. The Scotsboro Boys,Women On The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and Bloody,Bloody Andrew Jackson. Based on word of mouth the big sellers are expected to be The Book of Mormon,Priscilla Queen of the Desert and How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying starring Harry Potter himself Mr. Daniel Radcliffe. Who by the way I heard is quite the song and dance man. Now the one that I am really looking forward to is Baby It's You. This new musical based on 60's musicicons The Shirelles is my pick for the sleeper hit of the season.

Think the female version of Jersey Boys. Well once again it looks like I've wandered off the beaten path. I started out blogging about Catch Me If You Can and it turned into my own little preview of some of Broadway's most highly anticipated upcoming shows. By the way if you are looking for tickets to see Catch Me If You Can or any of the new shows I mentioned don't forget Applause is just a phone call away. Bengal Tiger At The Baghdad Zoo Starring Robin Williams Now In Previews

Robin Williams as a tiger? Now I've seen everything. Just so you don't think I've completely lost my mind I should let you know that the Emmy and Oscar winner will indeed be returning to the Great White this Spring in Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo. Previews which begin tonight at the Richard Rodgers Theater will officially open on March 31. Written by playwright Rajiv Joseph and directed by Tony nominee Moises Kaufman Bengal Tiger first premiered in 2009 at the Kirk Douglas Theatre prior to it's sold out engagement at the Mark Taper Forum where it was a finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize.

According to it's website the show will play a "strictly limited" engagement thru July 3. Yeah right. Where have I heard that before? Trust me. If the show is making money they would be stupid not to continue a little while longer. We shall see. Now while the show is expected to be a big seller there are still tickets to be had. In fact if you call right now we can get you tickets to see this highly anticipated new play for below face value. Be advised that this "Special Offer" is subject to availability and not good for all weekend performances beginning the week of March 21. Get your tickets to see Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo. Mamma Mia Tickets Now Available At Below Face Value

Good news ABBA fans. Now is the best time to see your favorite show. Mamma Mia which has been breaking box office for over a decade is now available at prices that can't be beat. From now thru May 28 you can get tickets to see Mamma Mia for below face value. Let's face it my friends. A bargain is a bargain. Might as well take it where you can get it. Am I right? The show which will celebrate it's tenth anniversary on Broadway this fall is still one of Broadway's most popular shows. In fact not a day goes by that we don't get a call from people wanting to see the show. Now believe it or not but I have never seen the show.

I know what you're thinking. It's not a Disney show. Why the need to boycott it? I just don't get the appeal of the show I guess. Now don't get me wrong. I like a few of the songs. I'll be the first to admit that. It's just the thought of sitting in a crowded theater listing to a bunch of Broadway singers belting out ABBA songs for 2 1/2 hrs would drive me insane. Look. It's just my opinion. The truth is Mamma Mia is a worldwide sensation. Not even I can change that. Get your tickets to see Mamma Mia on Broadway. Green Day's American Idiot To Close In April

Sad news theatre fans. Or should I say Green Day fans. Anyway it was announced today that Tony nominee American Idiot will play it's final performance on Broadway April 24 at the St. James Theatre. When it closes it will have played a total of 421 regular performances and 27 previews. It was also announced today that Green Day frontman Billy Joe Armstrong will return on April 5 for the final weeks.

The show which first premiered at the Berkley Rep in late 2009 opened to rave reviews from the critics in March 2010. However good reviews doesn't necessarily translate into big box office numbers. Now while the show started off strong due to good word of mouth it has struggled at the box office the last few months with sales only hitting record numbers when Mr. Armstrong was in the show.

To be honest I was expecting the show to close at the end of the of last month but then the producers went and announced a brand new cast so like most I assumed it would be here at least thru the Summer. Now the good news is that because the show is closing you can get some great deals. From now thru April you can get tickets to see American Idiot for below face value. Good deals like these don't come around everyday so don't delay. Get your tickets to see American Idiot on Broadway. You will love it.

New Broadway Revival Of Anything Goes Now In Previews

That's right theater fans. It's time to hop a board the S.S. American. Now believe it it not but I've never seen Anything Goes. In fact except for a couple of the songs I don't know that much about it except it takes place on a ship. What I do know is that this new Broadway revival is starring Tony winners and Broadway faves Sutton Foster and Joel Grey. That alone is reason enough for me to want to rush right out and get a ticket. I mean how can you not love Sutton Foster? Talented and adorable to boot. Throw in Joel Grey and you've got a winning combination.

Directed and choreographed by fellow Tony winner Kathleen Marshall Anything Goes begins previews tonight at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. Opening night is set for April 7. The show which first premiered on Broadway in 1934 at the Neil Simon Theatre was last revived on Broadway in 1987 where it ran for a total of 784 performances and starred Broadway diva and two-time Tony winner Patti Lupone. This new production which is slated to run thru at least the end of July is being produced by the Roundabout Theatre Company.

Now while the Roundabout has had it's success with it's revivals of Cabaret,Nine, and The Pajama Game their production of Bye Bye Birdie was a critical flop and closed after a run of four months. Now while Kathleen Marshall is a two-time Tony winner her most recent production of Grease was one of the worst things that I have ever seen and that includes Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark. Either way the show will probably do very well as it is the only other revival opening this season except for How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.Plus I'm sure Sutton Foster will receive her usual Tony nomination for her work. We shall see. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

That's right theatre fans. It's time for the customer story of the week. This week's customer comes all the way from Saint Augustine, Florida. Don't feel bad. I've never heard of it either. Anyway this past Friday I received a call from a gentleman looking for tickets to see two shows during the month of June. Care to guess which ones?

Well one is the not only the highest selling show week after week but also the most popular. The other is a new show written by a Tony winning composer and lyricist who is joined by two gentleman who while new to Broadway are no strangers in the songwriting department. Give up? Why it's none other than Wicked and The Book of Mormon.

You've all heard of Wicked right? I dare you to find someone on this planet who hasn't at this point. Now while the other show has only been on Broadway for a few weeks now it is already receiving good word of mouth and is doing pretty well at the box office. Not only that but with the exception of The People in the Picture it is the only new musical set to open this season that is not based on a movie or a real-life person.

Really? Only two original musicals out of ten shows? Pathetic isn't it? So now that I knew what he wanted to see it was time to find out when he and his wife wanted to go and where they wanted to sit. Since they were only going to be here for a few days they would have to see one show one day and one the next.

Luckily for them the days they picked were during the week which meant not only would the seats be better but probably a little cheaper as well. Sure enough I was able to find excellent seats for Wicked in row N of the Orchestra on the aisle and first row center of the Front Mezzanine for The Book of Mormon. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

New York's Funniest Show Is Still Avenue Q

Having seen Avenue Q over a half a dozen times in the last few years I can honestly say that I have never been to show as funny and as original as the 2004 Tony Award winner for Best Musical. Let me guess. You forgot the show won Broadway's top prize didn't you. It's o.k. since most people are still in denial that a little show about puppets beat the mighty and powerful Wicked. Trust me. I didn't forget.

Now while Wicked continues to sell out night after night Avenue Q is still chugging along. Only now it's Off-Broadway. The show which was originally scheduled to close in September 2009 after a six year run on Broadway instead made the leap to Off-Broadway where it began it's journey in 2003. Now that's what I call full circle. For those of you who still haven't seen Avenue Q I just have one thing to say. What are you waiting for people? I dare you to find a show funnier than this one.

In fact the reason I had to see the show so many times is because everytime I would see something that would make me scream with laughter I would end up missing something else. Oh sure the show isn't for everybody. Although I have yet to find anybody who hasn't cracked up at the thought of two puppets having sex. You're laughing right now aren't you? Told you so. Get your tickets to see Avenue Q Off-Broadway. You will laugh your a** off. I guarantee it.

Tony Nominee Harry Connick Jr. To Return To Broadway This Fall In New Revival Of On A Clear Day You Can See Forever

Exciting news theatre fans. One of Broadway's favorite leading men is set to return to the Great White Way this fall. Harry Connick Jr. who was last seen on Broadway in his critically acclaimed, sold out engagement in July 2010 of Harry Connick Jr. in Concert on Broadway will star in the newly revised Broadway revival of Alan Jay Lerner and Burton Lane's production of On A Clear Day You Can See Forever.

The show which is being reconcieved by Tony winning director Michael Myer and featuring a new book by playwright Peter Parnell will open later this year. As of now no other cast members or theatre venue have been announced. Here is a brief description of the show from the shows producers. "Love blooms in unexpected places in the delightfully re imagined world of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever."

"Still in love with his deceased wife, Dr. Mark Bruckner (Harry Connick, Jr.), a dashing psychiatrist and professor, unknowingly takes on the case of his life with David Gamble, a quirky young florists' assistant. While putting David under hypnosis to help him quit smoking so he can move in with his perfect boyfriend Warren, Dr. Bruckner stumbles upon what he believes to be David's former self — a dazzling and self-possessed 1940s jazz singer Melinda Wells."

"Instantly intrigued by Melinda, Dr. Bruckner finds himself swept up in the pursuit of an irresistible (and impossible) love affair with this woman from another time and place, who may or may not have ever existed." Well I guess it wasn't as brief as I thought. Anyway expect this show thanks to it's charming and talented leading man to sell a lot of tickets at the box office this fall. Until next time theatre fans.

Final Week's For Broadway's Driving Miss Daisy

That's right theatre fans. You've got less than five weeks to see one of this season's biggest hits. Driving Miss Daisy which opened on October 25 to rave reviews from critics and audiences alike will play it's final performance at the John Golden Theatre on April 9. Starring Tony winners James Earl Jones,Vanessa Redgrave, and Boyd Gaines, Driving Miss Daisy is one show you don't want to miss. I mean let's face it. When are you ever going to see talent's like that on the same stage again? Oh in about a month from now when the revival of The House of Blue Leaves with Ben Stiller, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Edie Falco opens. All kidding aside there is nothing better than sitting in a theatre watching some of theatre's finest actor's working at their craft.

Having lived here for almost twenty years I have seen hundreds of stars of stage and screen strut their stuff on a Broadway stage. From everyone to Julie Roberts to Denzel Washington there is nothing like seeing a star on Broadway. Even better when their actually good. One of my first Broadway shows was seeing Gene Hackman,Richard Dreyfuss, and Glenn Close in Death and the Maiden. Now that's a cast my friends. By the way good seats are still available for Driving Miss Daisy. Not only that but at prices that can't be beat. Get your tickets to see Driving Miss Daisy. Oh and don't forget previews for The House of Blue Leaves begin on April 4. Live theatre. There is nothing like it. Until next time theatre fans.
