Musical Revivals Are The Thing This Summer On Broadway

Now I don't know about you but there is nothing better than sitting in a Broadway theatre on a hot Summer day and seeing a musical. Not only that but one's that first premiered over thirty or more years ago. Sure a new musical can be fun but there is nothing like hearing the music of old. Currently there are five musical revivals taking Broadway by a storm with three more scheduled to open this fall. The longest running revival is Chicago which has been running since October 1996.Now granted I loved the show when I saw it back in 1997 but I never expected it to be still running some fourteen years later. Say what you want about producers Barry and Fran Weissler but they know how to keep a show running.

Next up is one of my favorite shows. How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. Having seen both the 1995 revival and the current production I can honestly tell you that while both productions are radically different in style and performance I enjoyed them both. Now of course the main reason that the current revival is doing so well at the box office is because of a certain actor playing the lead role. Perhaps you've heard of him. Daniel Radcliffe. Doesn't ring a bell? Yeah right. I guess those hundreds of fans waiting at the stage door each and every night are there because they want to see John Laroquette.Yes I enjoyed his Tony winning performance as much as the next person but we all know everybody is there to see Harry Potter.

Next up is Anything Goes this year's Tony Award winner for Best Musical Revival. The show which first premiered on Broadway in 1934 also won Tony Awards for Best Actress in a Musical (Sutton Foster) and Best Choreography. The critically acclaimed revival which was originally supposed to close today is now on sale thru January 2012. Will this blast from the past live on after it's leading lady departs? Who knows. Although the last Tony winning revival from the Roundabout Theatre Company to receive this much acclaim was Cabaret which ran for almost six years. Will lighting strike twice? We will find out.

Next up is another personal favorite of mine.Hair.Revived on Broadway in 2009 it ran for a total of 519 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Revival. The show which has been touring throughout the United States since October 2010 is playing a limited run at the St. James Theatre thru September 10. Prior to seeing the show I had never seen a production of the show or the much loved film. I loved everything about the show. From the sexy and energetic cast to the soulful and inspiring score I was transferred back to the 1960's.Check it out if you get the chance. Shows like these don't come around every day so don't miss your chance.

Set to begin previews this week on Broadway is Follies. The show which was revived last in 2001 stars two-time Tony winner Bernadette Peters,Ron Raines, and Tony nominees Jan Maxwell and Danny Burnstein. With music and lyrics by Tony winner and Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim and book by James Goldman Follies promises to be a highlight of the fall season. Now while I love Sondheim his shows have never been what you would call a hit at the box office. Award winners yes. Money makers? Not so much. Maybe this time it will be different. Stranger things have happened.

So there you have it folks. Five exciting yet very different shows. Coming soon? The first Broadway revival of Godspell. A new revival of On A Clear Day You Can See Forever starring Tony nominee Harry Connick Jr. and a reimagined production of Porgy and Bess starring the one and only Miss Audra McDonald. This season is about to get very interesting. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

April 3,2004. My first day at Applause. Over the seven and a half years I've seen a lot of shows. Some good. Some bad. I've also spoken to thousands of customers on the phone. Some good. Some bad. Just kidding. To be honest most of the calls we get are from some very nice people who just like us love and support the theatre. Anyway the reason for today's blog is to talk about a customer who called the other day. It was a typical day like any other. People calling looking for tickets to see The Book of Mormon and War Horse. This past week I received a call from a gentleman who was planning a trip to New York for him and his two daughters and was hoping to take in a few shows while they were here. Although he had to been to New York many times over the years this would be the first trip for his two girls. Since the trip was a graduation gift for his oldest daughter he really wanted to make it special. I asked him when he would be here and he said he was planning a 6 night stay during the second week of August. Since he wanted to take in at least four shows while they were here I told him he should have no problem squeezing them all in during his trip.

I asked him what they wanted to see and he told me that first on his list was Wicked because that was one his daughters really wanted to see. Now while Wicked remains Broadway's most popular show I told him it shouldn't be a problem as he was looking to go on a weekday performance. Sure enough I was able to get him excellent seats in the Front Mezzanine just a few seats off the aisle. One down. Three to go. Growing up in the 60's he asked me what I thought about Baby It's You. I told him it was a wonderful show but not a big seller like other new shows so I knew that I would be able to not only get them excellent seats but for below face value. Sure enough I was able to get him seats in Row A of the Front Mezzanine and for only one hundred dollars. Now that's what I call a deal. Staying with the 60's he decided on Hair which is a favorite of mine. Care to guess how much they cost? That;s right. One hundred dollars. Now for his fourth and final show he picked Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark. Now while it is not a favorite of mine I understand why people want to see it. Once again I was able to get him good seats for less than he was seeing anywhere else. So there you have it folks. Four shows. Four amazing prices. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

See Tony Winner Memphis For Below Face Value

That's right theatre fans. One of Broadway's most popular shows is now available at prices that can't be beat. I am of course talking about none other than Memphis. The 2010 Tony Award winner for Best Musical. The show which received rave reviews from critics opened at the Shubert Theatre in October 2009 where it continues to entertain audiences eight times a week.Besides it's win for Best Musical it also won the Tony for Best Score, Best Book and Best Orchestrations. No wonder it's one of Broadway's most loved shows. Now while I didn't really care for the show I am smart enough to know that Memphis is a show that most people will love. It has some incredible dancing and a score that you are sure to be humming even hours after you have left the theatre. After all isn't that what a Broadway show is supposed to do?Now as I said before you can get tickets to see Memphis at prices that believe it or not are below face value. Sounds like a great deal doesn't? Be advised this offer is only good thru September 4th so don't delay. Get your tickets to see Memphis on Broadway. You will love it.

Today's Economy And It's Effect On Broadway

Unless you've been living under a rock you have probably heard that we are in the middle of an economic crisis. People are losing their jobs, and entire companies are going bankrupt. In these trying times you would think that the last thing people want to do is shell out hundreds of dollars to see a Broadway show right? Well that's what I thought too. But you know what? The phones are still ringing and people are still buying tickets to their favorite shows. I guess the saying is true."The more things change the more they stay the same." No matter what Broadway will always be here. To make us smile and to make us laugh. To make us cry and to make us think. Broadway is what makes the world a better place. If only for a little while.Until next time theatre fans.

Disney's The Lion King

Can you believe it's been almost fourteen years since The Lion King opened on Broadway? Time sure does fly. Not only that but the show still sells out practically every night. How many shows do you know that still do that? Not too many my friends. Now those of you who read my blogs are aware that I have never seen the show. The truth is it doesn't matter what I think. The show is here to stay.

Now having said that I do recommend the show. It is great for kids. Heck it's great for the whole family. The show which opened in December 1997 continues to sell out almost nightly at the Minskoff Theatre and by all estimations should be around for a very long time. Look I may not like it but a show doesn't run all those years on Broadway without doing something right.

By the way beginning in September the Producers of the show have decided to lower the price for all Orchestra and Front Mezzanine seats. During the Summer both sections sell for the same price. However when the kids go back to school sales drop which means in order for the show to continue at full capacity they need to make the show more affordable.Makes sense to me. Get your tickets to see The Lion King on Broadway. The 1998 Tony Award winner for Best Musical.

Ten Years And Counting And Mamma Mia Is Still Going Strong

Now in it's tenth year on Broadway is Mamma Mia.Who would have thought that a bunch of old songs from a pop group from Sweden would become a worldwide sensation? I certainly didn't. But what do I know? Believe it or not but I've never seen it. Now don't get me wrong. I like some of the music. The show just doesn't interest me.

I guess my tastes are a lot different than the average Joe. Regardless Mamma Mia is here to stay. The show which first premiered in London in 1999 is still one of Broadway's biggest hits and shall continue to be for a very long time. Maybe I'll break down one of these days and see the show. Who knows? I might even like it. Stranger things have happened.

Now for those of you fans out there who want to see the show again now is the best time to do it. From now thru August 27 you can get great seats to see Mamma Mia at prices that are lower then any other time of the year. Be advised that this "Insider Deal" is subject to availability and is for select Orchestra and Front Mezzanine seats. Get your tickets to see Mamma Mia on Broadway. The World's most popular muscical.

Tony Awards To Return To The Beacon Theatre In 2012

That's right theatre fans. For the second year in a row the Tony Awards are heading uptown. It was recently announced that the 2012 Tony Awards will be held once again at the Beacon Theatre. Radio City Music Hall which has been the home to the Tont Awards since the late 90's was unavailable due to Cirque du Soleil's Zarkana which is playing at the famed venue thru October and is expected to return in 2012 and beyond. This year's Tony Awards was one of the most well received in years and with close to twenty new plays and musicals set to open this season I expect another exciting year for Broadway. We shall see. See you at the Tonys.

Million Dollar Quartet To Resume Performances This Week Off-Broadway

That's right theatre fans. One of my favorite shows is set to return to the Big Apple. Only this time it will be playing at a much smaller venue. Not only that but it will now be playing nine blocks away from it's original home. Million Dollar Quartet which opened on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre in April 2010 following a critically acclaimed engagement in Chicago played it's final performance on June 12. Performances are set to resume Off-Broadway on July 28 at New World Stages.

It joins former Tony winning hits Avenue Q and my favorite show Rent. For those of you that are not familiar with the show it is based on the famous 1956 jam session between Jerry Lee Lewis,Carl Perkins,Elvis Presley, and Johnny Cash. Having seen the show last I obviously knew a lot of the songs and had heard good things about the show from co-workers and people in the industry.

What I didn't expect was to love the show as much as I did. What an amazing night in the theatre.Every performance was top notch and the musical arrangements were excellent. All in all if you are looking for a fun night in the theatre than I highly suggest you check out Million Dollar Quartet on your next trip. Good seats are available for every performance so call now. Get your tickets to see Million Dollar Quartet.I promise you it will be a night that you will never forget.

Celebrate The Summer With Applause Theatre Service

Last week I posted a blog about how I thought the best way to beat the heat was to see a Broadway show. Now while it may have cooled off a little this week there's no reason why you can't experience one of New York's greatest treasures. Let's be honest. Most people that come to New York are probably going to see a show while they're here anyway right? Why not? New York is home to some of the greatest plays and musicals ever written after all. So now I have twisted your arm the next thing is to figure out how much it is going to cost. Yes we all know that going to the theatre can be expensive. The good thing is it doesn't have to be.

Right now there are over twenty-five Broadway and Off -Broadway shows that you can see at prices that are at below face value. Below face value? I must be joking right? Now I may be a funny guy but I never joke when it comes to savings like these. Posted below is a list of shows that you can experience for prices that are lower than they have ever been before. All you have to do is give us a call and mention the "BFV" deal and you can see some of New York's finest shows for prices that can't be beat. Shopping For Tickets On The Web

Even though I've written on this subject many times over the several months I always think it's a good idea to talk about it from time to time. After all this is the computer age. Now I know that all of you out there have purchased things on the web before. I myself do all my Birthday and Christmas shopping on the web. Believe me it's much quicker and much less of a hassle. Besides who wants to spend hours in a crowded department store when you could do everything from the comfort of your own home. Since I live in New York I rarely buy tickets on the web. After all I work in the theatre district which means all the theatres are all within walking distance. Well what if you don't live here? What do you do? Who do you call?

Every week I get calls from hundreds of people who are looking to purchase tickets to see a Broadway show. Some have already shopped around and called us because not only do we have some of the lowest prices around but we can actually tell people where that will be sitting before they purchase. How many other brokers can say that? Look I know we are not the only ticket agent in the country. Heck were not the only one in New York City. What we are is a company that takes pride in providing the best customer service to everyone. So whether you are calling us for the first time or you are a long time customer just remember that Applause is here to help with anything that you need. That's what we do.

Applause Theatre Service And Group Tickets

Having worked at Applause for almost eight years now I have had the pleasure of helping people people from all around the world with tickets to both On and Off-Broadway as well as London and Nationwide. Here at Applause we truly do it all. How many companies do you know who can say that? Now while most of are sales are from individuals and travel agents we do sell group tickets as well. Bet you didn't know that did you?

In fact over the last few months I would say we've sold more group tickets then we have in a long time. Who says the economy is bad? Truth is people are coming to Broadway just as much as they ever did. Not only that but most of those are student and travel groups who are coming to New York to see their favorite shows. Now for those of you that are a part of a group and are looking to come to our fair city well then you have come to the right place.

It doesn't matter how big or how small. You give us the number and the show an let us take care of the rest. It's a simple as that. Need a hundred tickets for Wicked or The Lion King in the next few months? No problem. What about tickets to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular during Thanksgiving? Oh sure it may be four months away but it's never to early to plan ahead. All you have to do is give us a call and let Applause take care of the rest. Don't forget we are open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means were always here to help with all your ticket needs. Why not give us a call? You'll be glad you did.

Jersey Boys On Broadway

Now in it's sixth year on Broadway is Jersey Boys. The show which won four 2006 Tony Awards including Best Musical of the Year remains one of Broadway's most popular shows. Most shows tend to see a drop after the first year or so yet Jersey Boys continues to play to packed houses week in an week out. How many shows can you say that about? Not too many my friends. Now to be honest when it first opened I wasn't really sure if I wanted to see it. Yes I know it got amazing reviews and was selling out every night. It's just that there was so much hype behind it I knew that there was no way it was going to be as good as everyone said it was. So finally after two years of hearing people say that that I had to see it I figured it was about time to see what all the fuss was about. Guess what? I didn't like it. I loved it. In fact I will go as far to say that it is one of the best things I have seen on Broadway in the last five years. For those of you who haven't seen it yet I highly recommend you do. No worries though. Jersey Boys will be here for a very long time. Call Applause now to get your tickets to see Jersey Boys on Broadway. Good seats are still available so call now.

Zarkana Tickets For Below Face Value Is Now Available

I'll be the first to admit that I don't get this whole fascination with Cirque du Soleil. Yes I know it's very popular. The haven't sold out theatres all over the world for nothing after all. I just don't have any desire to see it. Now regardless of what I think Cirque du Soleil is here to stay my friends. Their latest smash hit is Zarkana which began performances in June at Radio City Music Hall. In fact because of the show this year's Tony Awards were moved uptown to the Beacon Theatre. Right now the show is scheduled to play thru the end of October with returns already scheduled for 2012 and beyond. Good seats are now available for all performances. Not only that but if you call now we can get you tickets to see Zarkana for below face value. Who doesn't love a bargain? I know I do. Get your tickets to see Cirque du Soleil's Zarkana. Customer Story

Really? Two customer stories in one week? What can I say? It's been a good week at Applause. Three days ago I received a call from a gentleman in Vonore, Tennessee who was planning a trip to New York next month and wanted to see a few shows. Scratch that. He wanted to see ten shows. I guess that's doable. Oh I guess I forgot to mention that he wanted to see all ten shows in only six days. What? Is he crazy? Now don't get me wrong. I love going to the theatre but that many shows would give me a headache. The big question was if it was even possible. Ten shows in six days? That would mean he would have to do do three matinees and seven evenings if he had any shot of pulling it off. So now that I knew what I was in for I started the long process of trying to figure out the best way for him to see everything. Plus make it affordable as well. What can I say? I love a challenge. Now I'm not going to give you a long and boring story about each show. That would take forever So I'll just say that I was able to get him tickets to every show on his list plus at prices that were more than reasonable. Here they are.

8/23 7pm Anything Goes
8/24 2pm Lion King

Let the debate begin. Now I don't know about you but being an avid theatre goer I usually don't care where I sit. To me all the seats are good. Now I know a lot of you out there will only see a show if you can sit in the Orchestra. I know. I've spoken to many you over the years. Now I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that. You should be able to sit where you want to sit. It's your money after all. I myself am a big fan of the Mezzanine. For one in most Broadway theatres the Mezzanine is smaller than the Orchestra. Plus it is elevated. To me that is what makes the Mezzanine better than the Orchestra.

Nowadays the sets are so big. Plus being a director myself I know the importance of using the stage to it's full capacity.Yes I know I said I could sit anywhere and be happy but if I had to choose between Orchestra and Mezzanine I would choose the latter. So next time you are shopping for tickets just remember that to have a good time you don't have to be "In the first ten rows" . So when it comes right down to it whether you are the first row of the Orchestra or the last row of the Mezzanine just remember that there is nothing like seeing a Broadway show. It is an experience you will never forget. See you at the theatre.

Beat The Heat And Take In A Broadway Show

Man is it hot outside. As I write this it 100 degrees outside but with the humidity it feels like 110. Good times. Thank goodness for air conditioning. Now for those of you who are looking for ways to cool off there is only one way I can think of to do it. Inside a theatre enjoying a Broadway show. I know that's what I would be doing if I wasn't working. Sure beats being outside. Oh sure you could stay home with your feet propped up in front of the fan. Or you could sit in a beautiful theatre with a thousand or so other people and be a part of one of the greatest things ever invented. I am talking about live theatre. There is nothing like it in the whole world. Until next time theatre fans.

Rain:A Tribute To The Beatles To Close On July 31

That's right theatre fans. Or should I say Beatles fans. Rain:A Tribute To The Beatles which was scheduled to play it's final performance on September 4 will now close on July 31. When it closes it will have played a total of eight previews and three hundred performances. Now when it was first announced that the show was coming to Broadway last October it was also supposed to run for a limited engagement of thirteen weeks To be honest I didn't think it would last long. Don't get me wrong. I love the Beatles. However four guys doing a two hour tribute to one of the greatest bands of all time did not sound like something that I would interest me yet alone pay $120 to see. Once again I was wrong. Not only has the show being playing to packed houses around the globe for over thirty years but the show has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike since it opened on Broadway. But like the old saying goes "All good things must come to an end." The good news is the show is continuing on. Performances are set to resume in South Africa later this Summer. Get your tickets to see rain on Broadway. Time is running out.

Get Tickets To See Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark Thru Applause Theatre Service

Now those of you who read my blogs know that I'm not the biggest fan of Spider-man:Turn Off The Dark. I personally walked out of the show when I saw it back in December. Yes I know that most people frown at that. Who cares. I didn't like it. The truth is it really doesn't matter what I think. The show is still grossing over a million dollars a week at the box office. My opinion certainly won't change that. Now for those of you who haven't seen the show there is good news my friends. Now is the best time to get your tickets to see the most expensive show in Broadway history. From now thru the end of the year you can now purchase Rear Orchestra seats for less than a normal Orchestra seat. Now for those of you who think that the Rear Orchestra seats might not be a full view think again. There is not a bad seat in the house. Plus with all the flying going on you are guaranteed someone will be flying your head at least once. Get your tickets to see Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark. Good seats are available for most performances so call now.

Sister Act Turns 100

That's right theatre fans. Broadway's favorite nuns just celebrated a milestone. Sister Act which recieved five Tony Award nominations including Best Musical of the Year just celebrated it's 100th performance on the Great White Way.The show which features a score by eight time Oscar winner Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors,Beauty and the Beast) first premiered in 2006 at the Pasadena Playhouse where it became the highest grossing show in it's theatre's history. Except for a brief engagement in 2007 at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta the show would not be seen again until June 2009 when it opened at the London Palladium in the West End. It was there that the show would achieve it's biggest success. You've seen the movie. Now see it live on stage.Get Your tickets to see Sister Act on Broadway You will love it.

Purchasing Tickets To A Broadway Show

So let's say that you are a travel agent and a client comes into your office and besides coming to you to make their travel plans they also need help getting theatre tickets. Well I guess you could waste hours on the Internet looking for the best deal or you could make one phone call and get them tickets in a matter of minutes. That's what happens when you call Applause. Yes I know there are hundreds of other companies out there that sell theatre tickets. That will never change. The question you have to ask yourself is do you really want to deal with the headache of calling ten or twenty other places to eventually find that they don't have what you are looking for or do you want to take care of it the easy way? I don't know about you but I would choose the latter. Look you already have enough on your plate trying to find your clients a nice hotel while they are here. Why not make a little thing like getting tickets a piece of cake. I like cake. Don't you?

London Theatre

Believe it or not but I've never been to London. In fact except except for my two visits a year to visit my parent's in Illinois I don't leave New York. Why leave? Everything I could ever want or need is right here. Now for those of you who are heading over to London and want to see a show you have come to the right place my friends.

Not only does Applause sell tickets to all shows in New York and Nationwide but all events in London as well. Not only is London home to some of the most exciting plays and musicals in recent years but where else will you see classic productions of one of the world's greatest playwrights of all time. I am course talking about the one and only Mr. William Shakespeare. You've heard of him right?

Now say Romeo and Juliet or Hamlet is not your cup of tea. Right now there are over twenty-five musicals playing in London along with over thirty plays. That's more than Broadway. I guess it helps that they have twice as many theatres as we do. With this many shows to choose from how can you possibly go wrong? Give us a call and let Applause Theatre Service give you a theatrical experience that you will never forget. What do you have to lose?

Rock of Ages Celebrates Milestone

Now I'll be the first to admit that when Rock of Ages first opened Off-Broadway in the fall of 2008 I wasn't sure how it was going to do. Being a huge 80's fan I was expecting it to be very cheesy. Well guess what? It is. That's what makes it so much fun. Plus it's got the sexiest cast On or Off-Broadway. How many shows can say that? The show which just reopened at the Helen Hayes Theatre on Broadway following a two month hiatus just celebrated it's 1000 performance. Rock of Ages is a guilty pleasure of mine. I loved it. In fact I'm taking my parents to see it in November. Great 80's music and Thanksgiving. Now that is what I call a winning combination. Get your tickets to see Rock of Ages on Broadway. A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

In honor of my favorite show (Rent) returning to New York as well as the Summer return of Hair I have decided to re-post this blog from way back in August 2007. It's amazing that not only much time has passed but how little Broadway has changed. Agree or don't agree. It's your choice. Enjoy.

Broadway for the Next Generation

April 29, 1968. Anybody know what happened on that date? Well like most people I know, myself included, I was not alive in 1968. Heck I didn't even discover musicals until 1984. I mean let's be realistic the last thing a wild 11 year old wants to do is sit in a stuffy old theatre when instead he could be outside playing baseball with his buddies. Then one Easter Sunday that all changed. I remember my 5th Grade music teacher Mrs. Dawson told us about her favorite movie. The Sound of Music. Now at first the idea of watching a story about a nun who takes care of a bunch of kids in Pre-Nazi Germany didn't really interest me. But I figured I might as well give it a shot. Besides since I wasn't doing that hot in music class maybe watching the movie might secure some brownie points with my teacher.

As soon as I got home I asked my Mom if we could watch the movie. To this day I still remember her exact words." Do you know how long The Sound of Music is? Three hours. There is now way you are going to be able to sit still for that long." I always like a challenge. Well not only did I watch the whole movie but I was glued to my seat the entire time. I didn't even get up during the commercials. From then on I was hooked. Over the years my love for the theatre has grown even more. Of course after living in New York for the past 15 years my tastes have changed. When I first moved here I would have run to see shows like Crazy For You or 42nd Street. Heck back then I might even have liked Mary Poppins. Not that there is anything wrong with those type of shows. Their just not my cup of tea. My favorite show is Rent. It has been since the first time I saw it back in April 1996.

Over the years I have seen it over 20 times. And it never gets old. I still love it for the same reasons. Even after all these years I still cry in the same places. Who says a real man can't show emotion? I remember when Rent first opened people were calling it the "Hair of the 90's". Maybe that's true. Maybe it's not. What it did was give the kids of my generation something to believe in and do something that today in my opinion doesn't happen enough in the theatre. Rent makes you think and above all it makes you care. Not to mention the fact that it showcases music that speaks to me and to so many others. People in the 60's had Hair. In the 90's it was Rent. in 2007 it is Spring Awakening. What will be Broadways next "Rock" musical. Will we have to wait another 10 years to see the next one. I hope not. And by the way the answer to my little Trivia question was "Hair" That's where it all started. By remembering the past it will help make the future even that much brighter.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Louisiana. Ville Platte to be exact. On Friday I received a call from a very nice lady who was bringing family to New York later this month and wanted tickets to see Mamma Mia as well as tickets for the New York Yankees. Now since Mamma Mia has been playing on Broadway for close to a decade I knew it would be no problem. In fact I was able to get her excellent seats in the first row of the Front Mezzanine for $120 each. Which by the way is lower than if she would have walked right up to the box office herself. So now that her show tickets were all taken care of it was time to find her tickets for the New York Yankees. Now although she was excited about the possibility of going to a game at Yankee Stadium she didn't wan to spend an arm and a leg. She really just wanted her family to experience a live game. After a little searching around I was able to find her seats in the Upper Level for around $40 a piece which were full view by the way. So there you have it folks. Excellent seats at excellent prices. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Rent Returns To The Big Apple

That's right Rent-heads. Our favorite show is back after a near three year absence. Only this time it is Off-Broadway. Rent which opened on Broadway in April 1996 began performances at New World Stages on July 14. Being a huge fan of the show I can't wait to see it. Now normally I would have already gotten my tickets but I think I will wait a little while. Let the actor's get used to their surroundings. Besides I'm sure it can't be easy being the first cast of the first ever revival of this beloved landmark musical. Regardless of what the reviews say I expect this new production to be around for years to come. Viva La Vie Boheme!

Call Applause Theatre Service For Tickets To See Broadway's Hottest Show The Book Of Mormon

Let me guess. You've never heard of The Book of Mormon right? Maybe if you've been living under a rock for the last five months. The show which won ten Tony Awards including Best Musical of the Year is the hottest show to hit the Great White Way since The Producers. Now I never saw The Producers. Too much hype in my opinion. Of course I thought the same about The Jersey Boys and it is now one of my favorite shows. How long The Book of Mormon willlast is unknown. My guess is it will remain Broadway's hottest shows until something new comes along. Now for those of you who have yet to see this award winning musical you have come to the right place my friends. Good seats are available thru Applause Service from now all the way thru July 2012. Not only that but at prices that you will find lower than anywhere else. Plus at only 1,068 seats the Eugene O'Neill is one of Broadway's smallest theatres. That means there is not a bad seat in the house. Get your tickets to see The Book of Mormon. You will love it.

Customer Story

I know what you're thinking. Two customer story's in one week? Have I finally run out of of things to blog about? Don't worry theatre fans. I will never run out of things to blog about. Anyway earlier this week I received a call from "Down Under". That's right mates. I'm talking about Australia. Austinville to be exact. I received a call from a woman who was coming into the city next week and wanted to see two shows on the same night. Now before you think that Broadway has added a "Special Midnight" showing of Priscilla Queen of the Desert they haven't. No she and her husband wanted tickets to Jersey Boys and her son and daughter were going to go see Mary Poppins.

No problem right? Of course there wouldn't be a problem. The don't call us ticket experts for nothing after all. For Jersey Boys I was able to get her excellent seats in the Center Front Mezzanine for a less that she was expecting. For Mary Poppins she didn't want to spend as much but still wanted a good view. Now since Mary Poppins has been playing for awhile I knew that wouldn't be a problem. Also because there were so many seats available I was able to get her a "Same Day Discount". That means I would able to get her good seats in the Orchestra or Front Mezzanine for what we would normally charge for a Rear Mezzanine or Balcony seat. Well she loved that. So there you have it folks. Two great shows at two amazing prices. another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

Today as I was walking to work as I do every day I found myself taking my time as I made my way thru Times Square to my office on 43rd Street and 8th Avenue. My office like many ticket brokers is in the theater district. In fact I am only a block and a half away from some of Broadway's most oldest and well known theatres. Now as I made my way up Broadway I stopped at the Wintergarden Theatre (Mamma Mia) where I noticed a sign that was hanging from the marquis. It read, "The Best Time On Broadway". Since I have never seen the show I really can't agree or disagree with that statement. Now since the show has been running around the world for over a decade I can only assume that people love it.

After all a show doesn't run that long if people aren't enjoying it. Having lived here for the better part of two decades I can pick ten to fifteen other shows that I would pick as the "The Best Time On Broadway". Rent of course is my favorite show. I don't see that changing anytime soon. The thing is it doesn't really matter what I think. I usually see the shows are free. That's one of the perks of working in this business. What matter is that we continue to support the theatre. Now whether that's here in New York or at some small theatre in your hometown. Live theater. There is nothing like it. Until next time theatre fans.

Getting Tickets For Wicked Is Now As Easy As 1-2-3

October 30,2003. Care to guess what happened on that date? No they didn't decide to celebrate Halloween a day early that year. Although there were quite a few people on 51st Street in funny costumes and green faces. Give up? Why it's none other than the day that Wicked opened on the Great White Way. Believe it or not but the show did not get very good reviews when it first opened. Yet here we are almost eight years later and Wicked still remains Broadway's top selling show. Take that critics.I mean how many other shows can you name that has not only remained a sell out show every week on Broadway but has also played to packed houses at theatres all around the country as well as London,Germany,Australia,Japan, and The Netherlands? Not too many my friends.

Now while the show may be a hit that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. Just look at the title of my blog. That's right. There is no better time to see Wicked on Broadway than right now. Catch Brooke Shields In The Addams Family This Summer For Less

I know. I know. Brooke Shields on Broadway? Can she even sing? Well believe it or not but The Addams Family is her fifth Broadway show. Plus she starred in the world premier of the new musical Leap of Faith last year at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. Prior to working at Applause I worked in the box office for the recent revival of Cabaret. Starring in the lead role of Sally Bowles was Brook Shields. Is she the greatest singer in the world? No. But she can carry a tune. Plus she's not too bad to look at either. She's still got it. By the way for those of you who still haven't seen The Addams Family yet there is no better time than the present. Good seats are now available for all performances. Not only that but at prices that are lower than ever before. Get your tickets to see The Addams Family on Broadway. Deals like these don't come around everyday so don't delay. Call now.Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway Loves Billy

Don't know what Billy I am talking about? Why Billy Elliot of course. The 2009 Tony Award winner for Best Musical. The show which first premiered in London in 2005 is one of Broadway's biggest hits in years. Now I've never seen the movie. In fact I am the only one in my office who hasn't seen the show. Look I'm sure it is an amazing show. It wouldn't be grossing a million dollars a week and won all those awards if it wasn't.

It just isn't my type of show. Don't get me wrong I like musicals. I wouldn't be writing my own if I didn't. It's just the in the last five or six years my tastes have changed as far as shows go. I tend to prefer shows that are more original as opposed to shows based on a movie or a cartoon. Now matter what I think there is no denying that Billy Elliot is a hit. My opinion will not change that.

Now I know you didn't come here to hear me lecture on the state of the American musical so why don't we get to the real reason for this blog. Now for those of you who do want to see the show you have come to the right place. From now thru the end of the year you can get tickets to see this Tony winning musical at prices that can't beat. This "Insider Deal" is now good thru the end of September. Now that is what I call a deal.Get your tickets to see Billy Elliot on Broadway. Deals like these don't come around every day so call now.

Jersey Boys Is Still A Must See

Now in it's 6th record breaking year on Broadway is Jersey Boys. The show which tells the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is still one of Broadways biggest hits. When the show was first announced I will admit I was a little skeptical about it's future on Broadway. In fact excluding Mamma Mia the success rate for the "Jukebox Musical" has not been very strong. Therefore you can understand my hesitation when they announced that they were working on a show about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

Never in a million years did I think that I was going to like Jersey Boys. Those of you who read my blogs know that I am not a big fan of jukebox musicals. So when I was first offered the chance to see the show in December 2005 I passed. Any show that has that much hype was bound to disappoint me. Cut to two years later and I was given the chance to see it again. Once again I hesitated but since it was Halloween and I didn't really have any other plans I figured I would give it a shot. After all if it was really bad I could always leave after the first act.

Well you will never believe what happened. Not only did I stay for the whole thing but that night I became a fan not only of the show but of the Four Seasons as well. What an amazing show. From the very beginning I was hooked. Great music. Great performances from top to bottom, and a story that was both inspirational and tragic at the same time. I was kicking myself for waiting so long to see it. Trust me. I will never make that mistake again. Now for those of you who still haven't seen Jersey Boys yest I highly suggest you check it out next time you are here.It is a must see. Get your tickets to see Jersey Boys on Broadway. You will love it.

Broadway Rocks Out With Rock Of Ages

What? You still haven't seen Rock of Ages yet? Well what are you waiting for people? It's time to unleash your inner"Headbanger" and get yourself down to New World Stages on 50th Street to see Rock of Ages on Broadway. The show which features twenty-eight classic hits from the 1980's takes place in The Bourbon Room, a bar/club on L.A.'s Sunset Strip.Yes I'll admit it. I'm a huge Rock of Ages fan.How could I not be? We're talking about a show that features some of the greatest songs ever written. Not only that but it has the sexiest cast on the stage today. That is what makes the show so different and unique.

Rock of Ages is a celebration of the 80's and all it's grittiness's. It's sexy and raunchy and allows you to have fun and let go of all your inhibitions.(It's a good thing they serve alcohol during the show to help you along)Is the show good for young kids? Probably not but why are you taking your kids in the first place? Enjoy a night out on the town for once. Remember what is was like to have fun and let your hair down? That is what Rock of Ages is all about. Bret Michaels got it right."Don't need nothing but a good time." I couldn't have said it better myself.Get your tickets to see Rock of Ages. You will have the time of your life.

Let me just state for the record that I am a huge NY Knicks fan. Win or lose they are still my team. You see I'm not one of those people who jump on the bandwagon when their team starts to win. Yes I am talking about all you so called fans from last season. Those are not real fans. Those are wannabees. My Thoughts On The New York Theatre Scene

So another 4th of July has come and gone my friends. Pretty soon it will be fall and then before you know it Thanksgiving and then Christmas. Yes I know the holidays are still months away but trust me. They will be here before you know it. Having lived in New York for almost twenty years now I have seen hundreds of shows both On and Off-Broadway. Now out of all those shows I would say maybe 20 or 30 of those were original shows. Yes I know that revivals have there place on the Great White Way. Same thing with all the Disney shows and musicals based on movies from the last two decades. I mean let's face it without shows like The Lion King and Mary Poppins or Sister Act and Billy Elliot Broadway would be a ghost town.

Not to mention I would be out of a job. Now you don't want that to happen now do you? Now when it comes to most of the recent revivals they have been just as well received if not better than most of the new musicals. Look that's all fine and dandy but where are the new shows? This past season there were a total of 11 new musicals that opened on Broadway. Care to guess how many were original? If you guessed two you would be right. Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson which while based on the seventh President of the United States was not based on a previous story or in the case of most musicals a movie from the last ten tears.

Now I'm sure by now you know what the second one is right? None other than the most successful new musical to open on Broadway since The Producers in 2011. Give up? No it's not Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark. It's none other than The Book of Mormon. Really? Two out of eleven shows? Where are the original musicals? Now don't get me wrong. I enjoyed Sister Act and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. In fact Sister Act was one of the most all around entertaining shows that I have seen in years. Still it was not original. There's that word again. Look you may not agree with me. That's fine. After all it's just one man's opinion.Until next time theatre fans.

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

Walking to work as I do every morning I often find myself pondering several questions. No it's not "Did I forger my keys"? I never forget those. Well at least not anymore. So anyway as I was making my way thru the Central Park Zoo this morning I noticed a large group of students making their way towards me. Of course they stopped to ask me for directions to Strawberry Fields which I was more than happy to give them. Now we all know why people come to New York to visit. It is the greatest city in the world after all. Yes I know I may be a little bias but it's true. Now what I want to know is why do so many people up and decide one day to move to New York? Good question right?

For most like me it's to pursue a career in the arts. Al least that was the plan when I moved to New York almost twenty years ago. Now here I am all these years later still working a 9 to 5 job waiting for my big break to happen. The question is will it? It will if I have anything to say about it. Look everybody has a dream of what they want their life to be. It's what you do to achieve that dream is what counts. Some people take the easy way out. That's fine for them. I just won't step on any one to get ahead. Maybe if I did I would be further in my career than I am now. Or maybe I wouldn't. At least I can go to sleep at night with a clear conscious. Now I know what you are thinking. What does this have to do with theater tickets.

At this moment there are hundreds of ticket companies out there who sell tickets. Now for the most part the companies that sell these tickets are on the up and up. Sure anybody can design a website and start selling tickets. Not everybody is legitimate but that's the case in any type of business. Do we always have the best prices? For the most part yes, but there will always be somebody else out there trying to be number one. Look we may not be the biggest company in town but we do our best to give each and every customer the attention that they deserve. That's what we do here at Applause after all. I guess I'll be sleeping with a clear conscious tonight again too.Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from St. Louis, Missouri. Last Saturday I received a call from a gentleman who was planning a last minute trip to New York this week and wanted to see a couple of shows while he was here. I asked what he wanted to see and he told me that his brother and sister-in-law had just come back from Las Vegas and saw Jersey Boys and loved it. Therefore he was hoping to get seats for the show as well as for Sister Act for the following night. I told that since he was coming during the week tickets should not be a problem for either show. Having seen Jersey Boys I told him that the Mezzanine is the better view as you will be closer to the stage because of the overhang.

Luckily I was able to get him excellent seats in the Rear Mezzanine. Now I know what you're thinking. Surely he won't be able to see anything from the Rear Mezzanine right? Wrong. I personally sat in the last Row of the Mezzanine on the side and had a perfect view. Plus it is a lower price. Sounds like a win-win to me. So now that Jersey Boys was all set it was time to find him seats for Sister Act. Now while the show is doing pretty well at the box office I was able to once again get him seats in the Mezzanine on the aisle. However this time it was in the Front Mezzanine and for the same price as the Rear Mezz. So there you have it folks. Two great shows at two amazing prices. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Tall Live With Applause On The Web

Now I'll be the first to admit that I don't text or do anything else on my phone except talk to people. I know I may be the exception but that's just who I am. A little over two years ago my boss unveiled a new service called Boldchat. When he first mentioned it to us I wasn't really sure what to expect. Unlike most people I prefer to talk to people on the phone. It's always worked in the past so why change now right? Well was I wrong. Not only do I now enjoy talking live but it has made my job a lot easier. I can be talking to one customer on the phone and chat with another at the same time. Plus it allows the customers online to ask any question they want without having to pick up a phone. With this new system you can get the info you want and we can take your ticket request and complete it all in the same chat. Sounds good to me. Why don't you give it a try? Hey if I can learn to love you might too. Until next time theatre fans.

See Broadway's Longest Running Show The Phantom Of The Opera For Below Face Value This Summer

The year was 1988. Ronald Reagan was still in office. At least for twelve more months anyway. The Last Emperor reigned at the Academy Awards, music superstar Roy Orbison passes away at the age of 52, and last but not least a little show called The Phantom of the Opera opens on Broadway. Who would have thought that it we would still be talking about it some twenty-three years later? Yet here we are in 2011 and the show is just as popular as it ever was. In fact just last week the show grossed over a million dollars at the box office. Pretty impressive for a show that opened over two decades ago.

Now I'm sure by now that most of you out there have already seen the show. It has been playing since 1988 after all. Why not see it again? I myself saw it again just a few months ago and it was just as good as it had been when I saw it over a decade ago. In fact I think I even enjoyed it more the second time around. How many shows can you say about that? Good seats are available for all performances. Not only that but at prices that are lower than ever before. This "Special Offer" is good thru September 3. 2011 so don't delay. Get your tickets to see The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. You will love it.

Tony Winner War Horse Now On Sale Thru January 2012

Winner of five 2011 Tony Awards including Best Play of the Year is War Horse. The show first premiered in the West End at the Royal National-Olivier Theatre in October 2007 before transferring to the New London Theatre where it remains. I can't tell you the last time that a play has been as hot as War Horse. Not a day goes by that I don't get multiple phone calls or e-mails asking about tickets for both the Broadway and London production. Now while the show may be selling well that doesn't mean you can't get ticket. We here at Applause have access to good seats on the way thru the end of the year. By the way for those of you that are not familiar with the theatre you should know that at a little over a 1000 seats the Vivian Beaumont is one of the smallest theatres on Broadway. Plus the fact that the theatre is in the round guarantees that all the seats are good. How many theatres can say that? Get your tickets to see War Horse on Broadway or in London. It is a must see. The Mother****** With The Hat To Close On July 17

That's right theatre fans. The show with the word in the title that you can't say on television is set to play it's final performance in less than two weeks. The Mother****** With The Hat will conclude it's run at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on July 17. The show which was nominated for six 2011 Tony Awards including Best Play of the Year opened on April 11. Now unlike my coworkers who saw the show I for one loved it. Yes it was vulgar at times. Did you think it wouldn't be? Doesn't the title alone give you a clue? Look title or not I found it to be a very riveting piece of theatre that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

How many shows can you that about nowadays? Not too many my friends.Ever since the show was first announced several months ago we have gotten countless calls from people asking for tickets to the "Chris Rock Play". Now while he may be the main reason most will go to see the show there are other talented actor's involved as well as the plays author Stephen Adly Guirgis who has been a major force Off-Broadway for years now. Here's hoping the shows success will encourage more new writers to try their luck on the Great White Way.By the way good seats are still available for it's final two weeks. Time is running out.

Get Tickets To See Mary Poppins For Below Face Value This Summer

Nearly five years into it's run and Mary Poppins is still a crowd favorite with audiences young and old alike. The show which is based on the beloved 1964 movie and the book of the same name first premiered in London in December 2004. Growing up as I child Mary Poppins was one of my favorite films. Although I was bit skeptical when they announced a live stage production. Not that I didn't think it would succeed. I was just afraid that nobody could ever live up to the amazing and Oscar winning performance of Julie Andrews.Well I shouldn't have been worried at all. Within the first moments I was hooked. Now whether you're a fan of the movie or not it doesn't make a difference.

After all good theatre is good theatre. Yes I know there were a few cartoonish elements in the movie but they were minimal. I got the chance to see the show before it first opened and I was so happy that I did. Now for those of you who have yet to experience the magic that is Mary Poppins then you have come to the right place. From now thru August 31, 2011 you can tickets to see this beloved musical for prices that are....wait for it...below face value. Be advised that while this offer is good for all performances blackout dates and restrictions may apply. Get your tickets to see Mary Poppins on Broadway. It will make you feel like a kid again.
