Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Puerto Rico. Now believe it or not but I can't recall the last time I sold tickets to someone from there. I take that back. The last person I sold tickets to was a travel agent. Wouldn't you know it but it is the same one that I am blogging about today. Small world. Anyway this past Thursday she called because her client was coming to New York in November and wanted to see two shows while her and her family were here. I asked her what they wanted to see and she said The Radio City Christmas Spectacular and The Addams Family. Both good choices and both I knew I could get for below face value. After finding out when they wanted to go I set out to find some tickets. After a little research I was able to get her client excellent seats for both shows in the Front Mezzanine. Not only that but for less than she was expecting. Plus the agent called back and said since I saved her so much on the first two shows she was thinking of getting a third one if they could fit it in their schedule. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

That's right theatre fans. Or should I say Cirque du Soleil fans. Now I'll be the first to admit that I have never seen a Cirque du Soleil production. Their latest creation Zarkana is set to conclude it's run on October 8. The show which began performances in June at Radio City Music Hall has already made plans to return again in 2012 an 2013. Remembering Tony, Emmy, and Oscar Winner Bob Fosse

Twenty-four years ago today Bob Fosse left this earth and danced his way into heaven. Every dancer or performer from the last fifty years would not be where they are at today if it wasn't for that man. Even to this day his influence is still being felt. He may be gone but his legacy will live on forever. Bob Fosse was a talent the likes of which will never be seen again. Years ago I had the chance to read his biography and I became a fan. While not a dancer myself if I could have even half the success that he did I will consider myself very lucky. Here's to you Mr. Fosse. You are truly a legend.

Big Apple Circus Set To Return To New York Next Month

Believe it or not but in all the years that I have lived in New York I have never been to the circus. Not Ringling Brothers. Not even the Big Apple Circus. In fact until I started working for Applause seven years ago I didn't even know that it existed. Now in it's 34th year the Big Apple Circus continues to thrill and enchant audiences of all ages. I mean who says you have to be a kid to enjoy the circus? Growing up as a child in Illinois one of my favorite memories was going to the circus with my Mom and Dad. Even after all these years later the mere mention of the circus puts a smile om my face. Now even though I have not been to the circus in years I hope that one day I will be able to share it with my own children. Of course I need to get married first. Any takers out there? Just kidding. Performances are set to begin on October 20 and run thru January 8, 2012.Get your tickets to see this year's edition of the Big Apple Circus. It will make you feel like a kid again.

Jersey Boys On Broadway

It's hard to believe but in just a few months Jersey Boys will celebrate it's sixth year on Broadway. It seems like only yesterday that I was watching a clip of the four guys in rehearsal. Now while I thought it might have a good shot of doing pretty well I never could have imagined that the show would go on to become a worldwide hit or go on to win that years Tony Award for Best Musical. For those of you who thought that would happen you are liars. In all the years that I have been in this business very few "Jukebox" musical become hits. For every Mamma Mia and Rock of Ages there is a Good Vibrations or All Shook Up. Now while the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons has stood the test of time there was no reason to believe that the show would succeed. Once again I and the pundits were wrong. The show opened to rave reviews, won tons of awards and still continues to be one of Broadway's biggest hits with no end in sight. Now that's what I call a hit. Get your tickets to see Jersey Boys on Broadway. It is one of the best shows that you will ever see. I guarantee it.

Get Tickets To See Daniel Radcliffe In How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying For Below Face Value

Harry Potter for below face value? Have I lost my mind? First of all I know that it is not Harry Potter starring in the Broadway revival of How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. His name is Daniel Radcliffe. But of course you already knew that didn't you? I mean let's face it that is the reason you are buying tickets to the show right? The show which opened at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on March 27, 2011 stars Radcliffe as J. Pierrepont Finch and Tony and Emmy winner John Laroquette as his boss J.B. Biggley. It was recently announced that Glee star Darren Criss will be taking over the lead role from the Harry Potter star when he departs at the end of the year.

Now don't get too excited because he's only doing the show for three weeks. The good news is the show is not closing as it will continue on thru July 1 with teen sensation Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers. By the way for those of you who still haven't seen the show there is no better time than right now. From now thru November 6 you can get tickets to see this award winning musical for prices that are lower than they've ever been. Be advised that this "Special Offer" is good for select seats only and not good for Thursday October 6. Get your tickets to see How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. You will love it.

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

Here I sit at my desk wondering to myself where the year has gone. I take that back. Where has the last twelve years gone? It seems like only yesterday it was 1999 and here we are getting ready for 2012. Maybe I'm just getting old but time seems to be moving a lot faster than it used to my friends. When I started in this business back in 2001 the hottest show on Broadway was The Producers. Ten years later it's The Book of Mormon. Now the only thing these two shows have in common is they both have the word "The" in the title. Well that and they are both comedies. The truth is I have never seen either show and unless The Producers comes back I probably won't. By the way I won't be seeing The Book of Mormon no matter how long it is here and guessing how popular it is that could be for a very long time. It's just not my cup of tea. Of course I said that about Billy Elliot and I raved about it in my blog yesterday. Who knows? maybe two years from now when tickets for Mormon become available I will change my tune. Stranger things have happened. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from our friends from the Great White North. Yes I am talking about Canada. Kamloops, British Columbia to be exact. This past Friday I received a call from a young lady who was planning a trip to New York next month and was hoping to take in a few shows while she and her husband were here. I asked her how she heard of us and she said that she had purchased the New York Pass recently and it we were listed in the book as offering discounts for theatre tickets.

I told her that with the Pass she could get tickets to all shows in New York as well as all other events as well. Plus for prices that were lower than she would find anywhere else. Well she loved that. I asked her what she wanted to see and she mentioned that both her and her husband were big fans of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and really wanted to see Jersey Boys while they were here. I told her that although Jersey Boys is still one of Broadway's hottest shows she had picked a time when sales tend to drop off and it is much easier to get tickets. Once again it was music to her ears.

After a little research I was able to get her seats in the first row of the Front Mezzanine for less then what she was expecting. One show down. Two to go. Here next two shows while popular were a lot easier to get and for below face value. After I was said and done I was able to get her excellent seats for both Million Dollar Quartet and Memphis. Not only that but I got them for below face value. Well I thought she was going to try and jump thru the phone and hug me. O.K. I made that last part up but suffice to say she was very happy. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Less Than Two Months Away Until The Radio City Christmas Spectacular Begins

Christmas is almost here. Aren't you excited? I know I am. Yes I know it is still over two months away but it will be here before you know it. In fact the 2011 Radio City Christmas Spectacular is set to begin performances in fifty-three days. That's November 11 for those of you keeping track. Performances for the 77th edition are set to run thru January 2, 2012. Now believe it or not but in all the years that I have been here I have never see it. Not that I am sure it's isn't great. It wouldn't still be here all these years for nothing. It just seems like a show more for families or couples and since I am neither one of those at the present time I think I will wait until then. Nothing more pathetic then seeing a single man sitting surrounded by a bunch of families on a Saturday evening at holiday time. I could be wrong. It's just my opinion. By the way for those if you who want tickets to this years Christmas Spectacular there is no better time than the present. Not only that but most dates are available for below face value. Who doesn't love a bargain? I know I do. Get your tickets to see the 2011 Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Your holidays will not be the same without it.

Save On Broadway's Priscilla Queen Of The Desert This Fall

Still haven't seen Priscilla Queen of the Desert yet? Well what are you waiting for people? There is no better time than right now. The show which is based on the 1994 cult film of the same name first premiered in Australia in October 2006 before opening in the West End in March 2009 where it will conclude it's run at the end of December. The Broadway production opened at the Palace Theatre on March 20, 2011 where it continues to entertain audiences of all ages eight times a week. Now while the show has always been an audience favorite it has struggled as of late at the box office.

Last week it hit a disappointing 53.2% capacity at the theatre. Now while September has always seen a drop in ticket sales those types of numbers are quite disappointing. The good news is that means that getting tickets to see the show is easier that even before. Now only that but at prices that are lower than ever. From now thru November 20 you can get tickets to see the show for below face value. That's right. I said below face value. Get your tickets to see Priscilla Queen of the Desert On Broadway. Good seats are available for every performance. So don't delay. Call now.

My Thoughts On Billy Elliot

Those of you who read my blogs know that when it comes to theatre I am very picky. It wasn't always like that. When I first moved here almost twenty years ago I saw everything. From Crazy For You to Lost In Yonkers I saw them all. Some more than once. However in the last few years my taste has changed somewhat. I actually have enjoyed the plays more than the musicals. I guess I'm just sick and tired of all these movies and cartoons turned into these saturated and overproduced attempts at a musical theatre. When it was announced back in 2003 that Billy Elliot was coming to the stage I did my usual groan and thought, "Here we go again.Another successful and acclaimed movie being turned into another paint by the numbers musical." Now even though I had never seen the movie I knew I was going to hate everything about it. Therefore I avoided it like the plague. In fact I was the only person in my office to see it. Cut to nearly three years later and we get invited again. Not having anything to do on a Saturday I decided to finally give in and see what all the fuss was about. After all it did win ten awards and we all know they don't just give those to anybody.

Unless of course you count Contact,Thoroughly Modern Millie, and last year's winner Memphis. Now to all you haters out there I just have this to say. Aida, Urinetown, and the lack of competition. Oh and of course the unnecessary bias towards The Addams Family. There. I've said my peace. Now back to Billy Elliot. So there I sat in Row C of the Front Mezzanine waiting for the show to start. Knowing full well that I was more than likely going to flee the theatre as soon as the curtain went down at the end of Act One. Now I am man enough to admit when I am wrong and boy was I wrong about this show. I can't begin to tell you how much I loved this show. I will even as go as far to say that is by far one of the most well crafted and directed shows that I have ever seen. There was not one misstep. What a perfect day in the theatre. I would even see it again. That's how much I loved it. For those of you who haven't seen it yet or for those of you like me who thought it might be too British or maybe think that a show about a boy ballet dancer would be not appealing to most then I think you are wrong. I was and I have never been so happy about being wrong this much about anything in a long time. Now what does that tell you? Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the great state of California. San Diego to be exact. A few months ago I received a call from a customer who was looking to come to New York in October and wanted to see a few shows while she was here. Make that six shows. Now you're probably thinking why am I talking about a phone call from three months ago? Well the main reason is because while the shows she wanted were on sale I told her that by waiting a little longer she would still be able to get excellent seats but for a much lower price. How low you ask? Below face value. See I told you it was low didn't I?

At first she was hesitant as she was worried that by waiting that not only would the show not be available but also the seats might not be as good. I told her that while I understood her concern she had picked shows that while popular would still have good seats left. Plus she was coming during a slow period. After saying that she felt much better and decided to wait. I told her I would keep checking on a weekly basis and let her know when the deals extended. Which brings me to last week when I called and told her we were ready to go. By the end of the call I had managed to get her center seats for all six shows and for below cost. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Buying Theatre Tickets Online

Now I don't know about you but nowadays I do all of my shopping online. From birthdays to Christmas there is nothing better than sitting at home in front of my computer and letting my fingers do all the work. Well that and my credit card. I mean who wants to spend a whole afternoon in a crowded shopping mall with thousands of strangers. I know I don't. Buying tickets works the same way. I mean why spend your time in line buying tickets when you can do it all with just the click of your mouse? Not too mention most people who go to the theatre in New York don't even live here. Therefore the only way to get tickets is to either wait until you get here or purchase them in advance from a ticket broker. Now we all know that shopping for tickets can be difficult. Who do you choose? Where are the best seats? Where can I get the best deal? So many questions. So many answers. The truth is there are hundreds of companies out there who can sell you tickets. The one thing I always tell people that whether you order from us or not it is important to do your homework. Look around. Take your time. Find the one that works for you. It's your money after all. Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway Grosses:Week Ending 9/11/11

What a difference a couple of weeks make huh? Most shows if not all of them saw a considerable drop in ticket sales last week. No surprise as sales tend to drop during the first couple of weeks in September when the kids go back to school. Trust me. It happens every year. Pretty soon it will be October or as my boss calls it "Roctober" when things start to pick up again. The good news is that there are thirteen new shows set to open between now in the end of the year with seven or eight more set to open in the Spring. Now that is something to be excited about my friends. By the way besides those upcoming shows that I mentioned there are over twenty current shows that you can now see for prices that are lower than any other time of the year. Not only that but most of them are for below face value. That's right. I said below face value. Who doesn't love a bargain? I know I do. Just give one of the friendly ticket experts at Applause and mention the BFV deal and we will take care of the rest. It's as simple as that. Happy fall theatre fans.

Mary Poppins Turns 2000

No I have not lost my mind. Now while the character of Mary Poppins has been around since the 1930's I am referring to the Broadway production which celebrated it's 2000th performance this past weekend. The show which is based on the 1934 book by P. L. Travers as well as the 1964 movie first premiered in the West End at the Bristol Hippodrome in September 2004 before transferring to the Prince Edward Theatre in December where it remained until January 2008.

Receiving much acclaim as well as winning the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical the show opened on Broadway in November 2006 where it continues to delight audiences of all ages eight times a week at the New Amsterdam Theatre. By the way for those of you who have yet to see this beloved musical there is no better time than right now my friends. Good seats are available right now.

Not only that but at prices that are lower than any other time of the year. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru November 20, 2011 there are a few dates that are not good for the insider price. They are October 8, 9, 14, 15, 22 and 30 Matinee and November 4 and 5 Matinee as well as November 11, 12,18,19 and 20 Matinee.Get your tickets to see Mary Poppins on Broadway. It will make you feel like a kid again. Until next time theatre fans.

Applause Theatre Service And Travel Agents

In all the years that I have worked at Applause I would have to say that out of all our customers my favorite are the travel agents. Now don't get me wrong. I still love talking to the hundreds of regular people that call us or come by the office to purchase tickets. Let's face it. Where would we be with out them? Out of business my friends. However today I want to focus on the travel industry. I can honestly say that we would not be where we are today if it wasn't for them. To this day it still amazes me that after all these years that I still hear from the same agents over and over again.

In fact there are even a few agents that have been using our service from the very beginning. And that was over twenty-four years ago. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. When you provide great service there will always be those customers that come back time and time again. That's the way it is in any business. The truth is that anybody can sell you a ticket. Do an Internet search and you will see hundreds of different companies that sell tickets to shows or events in New York City.

Now unlike Applause most are not even located in New York City. Having been in every theatre on Broadway we know where the best seats are and how to get them at price that won't cost you an arm and a leg.Let's face it. In this economy the more you can save the better.Save your money and treat yourself to a nice meal. After all New York is home to some of the finest restaurants in the world. So in clonclusion without the travel industry New York would be a very empty place. So thank you for your service and thank you for letting us give your clients an experience that they will never forget. That's what we do.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Down Under. That's right. I am talking about the beautiful country of Australia. Now believe it or not but we have a lot of customers from that country. Most if not all of them came to us thru the New York Pass which gives them a 10% discount off theatre tickets as well as other attractions and restaurants. Sounds like a good deal to me. Anyway she called wanting to know if she could get tickets to see two shows in November. I asked her what she wanted to see and she said she was hoping to get tickets to both Sister Act and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. I told her that would not be a problem and since she was coming the week before Thanksgiving I would not only be able to get her excellent seats but for below face value. Well she loved that. After a little research I was able to find her center seats in the Orchestra for the Christmas show and Front Mezzanine seats for Sister Act. Plus at a rate that she has seen anywhere else. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Applause Theatre Service Is Your One Stop Shop For All Your Ticket Needs

Just the other day by boss was talking about when he and his former business partner first opened up Applause. Even he couldn't believe that it had been almost twenty-four years. Time sure does fly in the big city. It's funny but when I first started at Applause in April 2004 I thought we just sold Broadway. Well that and Off-Broadway. Boy was I wrong. Oh sure most of our sales are for theatre but we do so much more. Besides supplying tickets for every show both On and Off-Broadway we also sell tickets to the opera, ballet, as well as every sporting event in New York and the Tri-State area. Not only that but we can also get tickets for most of these events for below face value. Plus we sell tickets for all shows in London as well as all events Nationwide. How many companies do you know do that? Not too many my friends. Also don't forget that Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all your ticket needs. That's what we do do. So why not give us a call? You'll be glad you did.

Broadway's Most Popular JukeBox Musical Is Jersey Boys

Oh boy am I going to hear it from all the Mamma Mia fans. Yes I know Mamma Mia is the most popular show in the world. I am talking about Broadway. Sorry but Jersey Boys is number one when it comes to sales on the Great White Way. Don't get me wrong. Mamma Mia still does pretty well at the box office.Thank goodness for discounts right? Jersey Boys on the other hand has been selling at full price since it first opened almost six years ago. Oh sure it may go to the TKTS booth once in awhile but that is something else entirely my friends. In all the years that I have been in this business there are very few shows that continue to sell at full price years after it's opening. Jersey Boys is one. The others are Wicked and The Lion King. That's pretty good company to be in don't you think? Anyway for those of you who have never seen the show there is no better time than right now. Plus at only 1200 seats there is not a bad seat in the house. I myself saw the show from the last row of the Mezzanine on the side and didn't miss a thing. How many theatres can say that? Get your tickets to see Jersey Boys on Broadway. You will love it. I know I did. Until next time theatre fans.

Those of you who read my blogs know how much I love Rock of Ages. Not only have I seen it a half a dozen times but I am actually taking my parents to see it when they come up to visit for Thanksgiving. Let's hope the like it as much as me. Featuring some of the greatest songs from the 80's the show now in it's second year on the Great White Way first premiered Off-Broadway at New World Stages before making the move uptown in Spring 2009. Soon to be a major motion picture the show continues to entertain audiences of all ages eight times a week at the Helen Hayes Theatre. Which by the way is one of Broadway's smallest theatres. That means there is not a bad seat in the house. Gotta love that. Anyway for those of you who haven't seen the show yet there is no better time than right now. Not only that but at prices that can't be beat. Beginning on September 6 it is now possible to see Rock of Ages for below face value. Get your tickets to see Rock of Ages on Broadway. Who knows? Maybe I'll see you there.

Come To New York And See A Show

Planning a trip to the Big Apple in the next few months? Well of course you are going to see a show while you're here right? Of course you are. I know if I was visiting New York seeing a show would be at the top of my list. Well good news theatre fans. Now is the best time to come to New York and see a show. Not only that but at prices that can't be beat. Did you know that as we speak there are nineteen shows currently running on Broadway with thirteen more scheduled to open before the end of the year.Oh and don't forget about Off-Broadway. Or the Radio City Christmas Spectacular or Swan Lake. That's what makes New York great. So much variety.Since I moved here almost twenty years ago I would have to guess that I have probably seeen over one hundred and fifty shows or more. Some good. Some bad. Although I'm also the type of person who loves bad theatre. There's nothing like a great train wreck. I know. I'm weird. Regardless of the show there is nothing in the world like live theatre. That feeling of sitting in a theatre with a bunch of strangers waiting for the magic to begin. Come to New York and experience it for yourself.Until next time theatre fans.

Now in it's second year on Broadway is Memphis. The show which won four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical of the Year continues to delight audiences eight times a week at the Shubert Theatre. Now while the show received rave reviews from the critics when it first opened it was not a big seller. Then it win's Broadway biggest prize and sales go thru the roof. Nothing like a few awards to make a show a hit. By the way for those of you who want to see this award winning musical there is no better time than the present. Starting on September 6 you can get tickets to see Memphis for below face value. That's right. I said below face value. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru December 22, 2011 it is for select seats and subject to availability. Now Is The Best Time To See Wicked On Broadway

Now in it's eight sold out year on Broadway is Wicked. The show which continues to enchant folks around the world is still Broadway's most popular shows with weekly grosses hitting over a million dollars a week at the box office. Not too bad for a show that got mixed reviews and lost the Best Musical Tony Award to Avenue Q. Now while I enjoyed the show when I first saw it in previews back in October 2003 I never expected it to be a huge hit let alone play to full capacity eight times a week. Guess I was wrong.

Now while the show continues to play to packed audiences eight times a week that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. In fact good seats are available as we speak. Want tickets for a Saturday night? No problem. How about last minute tickets on the same day? It's a snap. Or maybe your school or church group need fifty tickets during Thanksgiving or Christmas week. You want them. We got them. Don't forget that Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all your ticket needs. So why not give us a call? You'll be glad you did.
