Buying Tickets Thru Applause Theatre Service

Having been employed at Applause for almost eight years now it would be safe to assume that I am a little partial when it comes to our company and the kind of service that we provide. I mean if we don't toot are own horn then who will? However I am also smart enough to know that we are not the only game in town. So what makes us different from every other ticket seller out there? Well location is one thing. Our office unlike most is actually located in Times Square only steps away from the Theatre District. That means you can walk right up to our office and purchase tickets to any show or event you want. How many other ticket companies do you know that do that? Not too many my friends.

Now walk-up service is just one of the many things that sets us apart from the rest. I bet you didn't know that when you call most companies they are not even located in New York. Yes I know that's nothing new. I don't know about you but when I buy tickets I like to know where I'm sitting. Wouldn't it make sense to speak to someone who's actually been in the theatre before? I myself have been in every Broadway Theatre multiple times. Therefore I know the best place to sit. Not only that but I actually go to the shows.

Being in the industry that we are in we often get invited to all the new shows prior to opening. That way when somebody calls and wants to know what we think we can tell them. I know what I like may not be the same as everybody else. I mean just because I like something doesn't mean you will and vice versa. We are here to offer you are opinion and let you decide for yourself. Now unlike some people I will never recommend a show just to make a sale. That I can promise you. The thing is whether you order from us or somebody else is your choice. Just make sure it's the right one for you. It's your money after all. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Virginia. Great Falls to be exact. This past Saturday I received a call from a gentleman who was in the city for the weekend and was wondering if we had any last minute tickets available for the following day's performance of The Lion King. Now while the show has been playing for over a decade it is still one of Broadway's most popular shows with ticket sales still grossing over a million dollars a week at the box office. Not bad for a show that first opened back in 1997. Anyway back to the story. Now on most weekends The Lion King is still a tough ticket. Even in January when most shows are lucky to play at full capacity at best. After a little research I was able to find him three seats in the third row center of the Front Mezzanine. Not only that but at a price that was lower than he had seen anywhere else. Plus I was able to find him a great but inexpensive restaurant for him and his family to eat at before the show. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending January 29, 2012

That's right theatre fans. It's that time again. Now to be honest this is my first blog this year on this subject. Not that the grosses aren't newsworthy. It's just that with January being one of Broadway's slowest months there really hasn't been much to report. The good news is that between now and the end of April there are a total of sixteen new plays and musicals scheduled to open on the Great White Way. Now that is something to be excited about. That's actually down from last year when there were twenty-one. I guess you can blame the economy for that. or maybe it's just because the quality of shows has decreased. Here's a thought. Maybe someone would come up with something original as opposed to a musical based on a hit movie from twenty years ago. The Book of Mormon is the hottest show to hit Broadway in over a decade so what does that tell you? I rest my case. Anyway time for me to get off my soap box and get to the reason for today's blog. On to the grosses.

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

The end of the month is officially here my friends. Where oh where has January gone? It seems like only yesterday that we were welcoming a new year and here we are with only eleven months to go before 2012 comes to a close. Trust me. 2013 will be here before you know it. As we look forward to the next year I find myself at a crossroads. Where will I be in eleven months? To be honest I don't even know where I will be three months from now. It's the same in the ticket industry. Who knows how long any us will be here. Days? Weeks? Months? Years? Nobody knows. Now we all know that there will always be people wanting to come to New York and see a show. Who they choose to purchase from is something we can't control. All we can do is do our best and hope that is enough. That's true in everything in life. Until next time.

Customer Story

Two customer stories in one week? I must have run out of things to blog about right? Not hardly. It's just that we have great customers. So why not tell you about them? Yesterday I received a call from a very nice lady from California. Even though she has been here before she was bringing her son who had never been. Plus it would be her first trip to New York in over twelve years.

At first she was only thinking about seeing one show. Her choice? Memphis. Now while the show is not one of my favorites it does have it's admirers. Well that and a few Tony Awards including Best Musical of the Year. I asked her when she wanted to go and she said she would be here the second week of March. I told her that if she was willing to go to a Wednesday matinee not only would the seats be better but at a lower rate. Well she loved that. Plus since she saved so much on the Memphis tickets she decided to see another show.

She asked if I had any suggestions and I told her Million Dollar Quartet was one of my favorites and because the show was now Off-Broadway the price would be any lower. Well wouldn't you know it but Million Dollar Quartet was one that she was thinking about seeing. Great minds think alike I guess. Anyway when I was said and done I was able to get her and her son excellent seats for below cost. Not only that but I was also able to help find her some great restaurants to check out while they were here. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Broadway's The Phantom of the Opera Celebrate's Anniversary

Can you believe it's been twenty-four years since The Phantom of the Opera opened on Broadway? I sure can't. Yet here we are in 2012 and the show will celebrate another milestone on January 26. It was also announced that on February 11 it will play it's 10,000th performance. Pretty impressive don't you think? The show which first premiered in London on September 1998 is Broadway's longest running show of all time with worldwide box office receipts hitting over $5 billion dollars including a Broadway gross of over $800 million. Not bad for show that opened when Reagan was still in office. Now for those of you who still haven't seen the show, and by now I can't believe there are too many people that haven't, you have come to the right place. Good seats are available for all performances. Not only that but at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru March 10 it is not good for Saturday evenings and subject to availability. Get your tickets to see The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. You will love it.

I'll be honest when I first started working at Applause almost eight years ago I though that we just sold theatre tickets to New York and London. Boy was I wrong. Oh sure most of our business is selling tickets to the hottest selling shows like The Book of Mormon and Wicked, not to mention such long running shows like Mamma Mia and The Lion King. Now what if you want to see your favorite show but you can't come to New York? Just call Applause. Not only do we sell tickets to all shows both On and Off-Broadway but all shows Nationwide and London. We also sell tickets to all major sporting events as well as opera, ballet, and concerts as well. How many other ticket brokers do you know that offer that type of service? Not too many my friends. Don't forget that Applause is open seven days a week. That means we are always here to help with all your ticket needs.

Applause and the Off-Broadway Theatre Scene

Having been in the ticket industry for over a decade now I can honestly say that most of our customers call because they are looking for tickets to the hottest Broadway shows. Makes sense to me. I mean after all when most people think of theatre in New York the first thing that pops into their head is Broadway. Now don't get me wrong. There is nothing better than seeing a Broadway show. I even like the bad ones. I'm weird that way.

Now while it's true that a big Broadway show brings in more revenue than a show in a smaller theatre it doesn't mean it's not as good. In fact in some cases it's even better. Believe it or not but Off-Broadway has been around since the 1950's. That's almost as long as The Phantom of the Opera has been playing. Just kidding. Now for years Off-Broadway was known as Broadway's little brother.

Although when you think about it it's not so little anymore. Now besides long running hits such as Blue Man Group and Stomp there is also Rent and Avenue Q both of which won the Tony Award for Best Musical of the Year. Who says Broadway has to have all the best shows? In fact some of the most innovative and original shows can be found below 42nd Street.

Believe it or not but there are thirty-five shows playing Off-Broadway at this very moment. With that many choices how ever will you decide? That's easy. All you have to do is call one of the friendly ticket experts at Applause and let us help you with all your ticket needs. Support Off-Broadway. Who knows? You might just enjoy yourself. Until next time theatre fans.

What To See In New York City This Winter

Can you believe it's almost February? It seems like only yesterday that I was with my family celebrating the holidays and the end of the month is only days away. Time sure does fly doesn't it? Before you know it Spring will be here and then Summer. Now before you put away your winter clothes and get out your swim suits there is still plenty of time to enjoy the cold weather. Now for those of you like me who would rather stay inside then walk thru two feet of snow there is no better way than by seeing a Broadway show. Or maybe Off-Broadway is your thing? Or maybe you are a Knicks fan like me and want to see them in action. That's the great thing about New York City. There truly is something for everyone. Also don't forget that Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to assist you with all your ticket needs. So why not give us a call? You'll be glad you did.

This week's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Vermont. Norwich to be exact. Last week I received a call from a travel agent who had a client who was planning a trip to New York in March and wanted to see The Lion King. Now even though the show has been playing for over fourteen years it is still one of Broadway's top selling shows. In fact just last week it was the second highest grossing show. Wicked of course was number one. I asked her when her client wanted to go and how many ticketsshe needed. Not only did she want a Saturday matinee which is one of the most popular days of the week but she needed fourteen tickets. No problem right? Oh and did I mention they wanted the lowest price possible? Anyway after a little research I was able to find fourteen tickets in the Mid Mezzanine and at a price that was lower than she had seen anywhere else. Plus I was able to find them an inexpensive restaurant that could accommodate the whole group after the show. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Our Nations Economy And It's Effect On Broadway

Unless you've been living under a rock you have probably heard that we are in the middle of an economic crisis. People are losing their jobs, and entire companies are going bankrupt. In these trying times you would think that the last thing people want to do is shell out hundreds of dollars to see a Broadway show right? Well that's what I thought too. But you know what? The phones are still ringing and people are still buying tickets to their favorite shows. I guess the saying is true."The more things change the more they stay the same." No matter what Broadway will always be here. To make us smile and to make us laugh. To make us cry and to make us think. Broadway is what makes the world a better place. If only for a little while.

New Broadway Revival Of Jesus Christ Superstar Is Now On Sale

Really? Does Broadway really need another revival of Jesus Christ Superstar? It seems like only yesterday the last revival was here. Yes I know that was almost twelve years ago but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. To this day it is still one of the worst things that I have ever seen and trust me I have seen a lot of crap over the years. Now based on what I have said so far you might think that I am not looking forward to this new production. Well you would be wrong. For one the show got great reviews and two it is being helmed by two-time Tony winner and one of my favorite directors Des McAnuff. (Jersey Boys, Tommy). Previews for the Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice musical are set to begin in March 1 with opening night scheduled for March 22. Get your tickets to see Jesus Christ Superstar on Broadway. Who knows? A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

So here I sit on a rainy Thursday afternoon trying to figure out what to blog about. Trust me. This is not the first time and it certainly won't be the last. After a little soul searching I decided to write about the one subject that we can all relate too. Love. Now whether that is love for the theatre or another human being it is something that we all have in common. I myself fell in love with the theatre at a very young age and while I may not have liked everything I see I never tire of going to the theatre. I just don't go as often as I used too. You can blame that on the quality of new shows that open year after year. Same in love. I can't remember the last time I went on a date. I guess I'm just as picky finding a mate as I am at deciding what to see on Broadway. What can I say? I like what I like. Maybe one day I will find the one that will make my heart go pitter patter. Until then I will continue my search. Who knows? Maybe I'll find a show that will do the same. Stranger things have happened. Until next time theatre fans.

Disney's The Lion King

Looking for the perfect show that the whole family can enjoy? Well look no further than Disney's The Lion King. Winner of six 1998 Tony Awards including Best Musical The Lion King is one of Broadway's most beloved shows of all time. Not to mention one of it's most successful. In fact since it opened at in November 1997 it has continued to rank in the top five grossing shows week in and week out. Not bad for a show that opened over thirteen years ago. Now those of you who read my blogs know how I feel about Disney. Now while I loved their movies when I was a kid I have no desire to see them brought to life on a Broadway stage.

That's just how I feel. However I know that without shows like The Lion King and Mary Poppins there would be fewer people coming to Broadway. That means fewer people buying tickets and I would be out of a job. Now you don't want that to happen do you? The truth is no matter how I feel Disney is good for Broadway. I mean let's face if it wasn't for them most kids might never have had the chance to experience one of the greatest things in the world. Seeing a Disney show was their first time to feel the magic that is live theatre. For that they should be commended. Let's face it. Disney is here to stay my friends. Not even I can change that. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

This weeks customer story comes all the way from the great state of Indiana. Evansville to be exact. Now believe it or not but Evansville used to be a frequent vacation spot for me and my family during the Summer as it was only a few hours from my hometown. Anyway last week I received a call from a new customer who had been recommended to us by her travel agent. Now you see why we love travel agents? Now being that this was her first trip to New York she wanted to make sure that she picked a good show. Not only that but because she was bringing seven people she wanted to get the best seats but not have to spend and arm and a leg. I asked her if she had a show in mind and her top choice was The Lion King as she wanted something that the whole family would enjoy. I told her that not only would I be able to get her excellent seats but if she was willing to seat a little further back in the Mezzanine she would still have a great view but spend much less. Well she loved that. When all was said and done I was able to find her seven seats together in the Center plus at a rate that was lower then she had seen anywhere else. Also I was able to help her find several restaurants to check out during her trip as well. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Buying Theatre Tickets From A Broker

Let's face it. There are hundreds of companies out there who sell tickets to both Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. Applause just happens to be one of them. Now we all know that finding the right company to use is not easy. In this economy you really need to do your homework. Everybody is looking for a deal these days and everybody wants the best seats at the lowest price. Makes sense to me. I know that's what I look for when I am purchasing anything. However there are ways to save. Yes I know shows like The Book of Mormon and Wicked are not cheap. Well who says you have to limit yourself to Broadway's hottest shows. As we speak there are twenty shows playing on Broadway with thirteen more scheduled to open up in the next few months. Combine that with over twenty shows Off-Broadway as well as the Opera and ballet there truly is something for everybody. Not only that but most of those shows are available for less than any other time of the year. Who doesn't love a bargain? I know I do. As I've said many times before whether you purchase from us or anybody else it is important to take your time. See what works best for you then decide for yourself. It's your money after all.

Six Years And Counting Jersey Boys Is Still A Hit

Can you believe it's been six years? It seems like only yesterday that Jersey Boys first opened on Broadway. Now here we are in 2012 and the show is just as popular as it ever was. Believe it or not but when it first opened I didn't want to see it. Too much hype. Which to me meant that it couldn't possibly live up to my expectations. Cut to two years later and we get an invite to see the show. I figured even if I hated it I could leave during intermission. Well once again I was wrong. I can't tell you how much I loved the show.

In fact in the near twenty years that I have lived here I would put the show in my "Top Ten" Broadway shows that I have seen. Now for those of you who haven't seen the show there in no better time than right now. Good seats are available for all performances. In fact because the theatre is so small there is not a bad seatt in the house. I myself saw the show from the last row of the Mezzanine on the side and had a total full view. How many theatres can say that? That means if I can see from there so can you. Get your tickets to see Jersey Boys on Broadway. You will have the time of your life.

See Broadway's Tony Winning Musical Anything Goes For Less This Winter

Still haven't seen last year's Tony Award winner for Best Musical Revival? Well there is no better time the present. Anything Goes which also won Tony Awards for Best Actress (Sutton Foster) and Best Choreography is scheduled to run thru April 29. However I wouldn't be surprised if it lasts a little longer. That is if they can find a big enough name to replace it's Tony winning star. The show which opened to rave reviews in April of last year continues to delight audiences of all ages eight times a week at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. Now for those of you who wan to see this classic musical you have come to the right place. Good seats are now available and at prices that are lower than ever. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru February 29 it is not good for Saturday evenings and subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Anything Goes on Broadway. It is theatre at it's best.

Spider-Man"Turn Off The Dark Breaks Box Office Records

Those of you who read my blogs know that Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark has been my favorite punching bag over the past year or so. Well me and every other writer in the Tri-State area. This past Tuesday it was announced that not only was Spider-Man the highest grossing show last week but it was the highest grossing show in Broadway history with sales reaching a little under three million dollars. The previous record holder was Wicked which made a little over two million dollars this same time last year. Not bad for a show that most thought would close months ago. Me included.

Now while the show remains one of Broadway's hottest selling shows that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. Good seats are now available for all performances thru September 2, 2012. Not only that but if you call now you can see "Broadway's Most Popular New Show" for prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru February 26 it is not good fro Saturday evenings and subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark On Broadway. Oh sure it may not be my favorite show but it just might be yours.

Customer Story

That's right theatre fans. I am back from vacation. You all missed me didn't you? Now even though I have been out of the office for eleven days I do have a customer story to share with you. This particular customer had actually called me a few days before I left. Although this was the first time that he had ordered from us we came recommend by his travel agent who had used us many times in the past. Anyway the two shows he wanted to see were The Mountaintop which is closing on January 22 and Porgy and Bess which began previews last month. Since The Mountaintop has been playing a while I knew I would not only be able to get him excellent seats but probably for a low price.

Now while he appreciated me trying to save him a little money he didn't care about the price. He just wanted the best seats. I told him I understood and when all was said and done I was able to get him seats in the eleventh row center of the Orchestra. Well he loved that. One show down. One to go. Next up? The new Broadway revival of Porgy and Bess. Once again I was able to get him great seats in the Orchestra and on the center aisle. He thanked me for the wonderful service and said he will definitely give me a call when he is planning his next trip. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?
