Broadway Revival Of The Trip To Bountiful Starring Cicely Tyson To Open On Broadway This Spring

That's right theatre fans. One of America's most beloved actresses is returning to the Great White Way for the first time in thirty years. Cicely Tyson, the Emmy winning and Academy Award nominated actress of stage and screen, will star in a new production of Horton Foote's The Trip To Bountiful at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. This limited engagement is set to begin previews on March 31, 2013 with opening night scheduled for April 23,2013. Starring along side her are Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr., Emmy nominee Vanessa Williams, and Tony nominee Condola Rashad. The show first premiered on NBC in 1953 as a television play. However it was the 1985 movie starring Geraldine Page that brought the play worldwide recognition. Ironically the Broadway version of the show would only run for a total of thirty-nine performances. Something tells me though that this new production will fare much better. Tickets for The Trip To Bountiful are expected to go on sale in the coming weeks so make sure to check back here for more information. Get your tickets to see The Trip To Bountiful on Broadway. I can't wait.

Forbidden Broadway: Alive and Kicking Tickets on Discount

Forbidden Broadway is an Off Broadway show that originated in 1982.  The show is selling discount tickets for all performances through April 28, 2013 right now at New York's 47th Street Theatre.  It is a very funny "spoof" that has been constantly updating itself over the years, making fun of the top shows that play on Broadway.  Although they constantly change the material in the show to reflect each season's new plays and musicals, Forbidden Broadway still pokes fun at long time shows like The Lion King, Death of a Salesman, Anything Goes, The Phantom of the Opera, Wicked and others.

This season, Forbidden Broadway: Alive and Kicking  has created hilarious rewrites of songs that you've come to know as well as their own "impressions" of many casts of the shows of Porgy and Bess, Anything Goes, Spiderman, Follies, The Book of Mormon, Once The Musical, Nice Work if You Can Get It and many more.

The cast of four very talented actors include Natalie Charle Ellis, Scott Richard Foster, Jenny Lee Stern and Marcus Stevens.  The creator, Writer and director for every edition of Forbidden Broadway as well as Forbidden Hollywood in New York, Los Angeles, London and throughout the world is the very talented Gerard Alessandrini.  He has rewritten Forbidden Broadway nearly 20 times and each version includes very funny parodies of what each Broadway show has in its own show.

I've had the chance to witness Forbidden Broadway firsthand a few times and would highly recommend it as a nice addition to seeing a major Broadway production.  Over the years the show has won 9 Drama Desk Awards, a Special Tony Award, An Obie Award, a Lucille Lortel Award and a Drama League award.

The show runs an hour and 40 minutes with one intermission and plays 9 performances a week.  If you think you might want to see the latest version of Forbidden Broadway: Alive and Kicking in 2013, please consider contacting Applause-Tickets.com at the contact numbers below.

The Mystery of Edwin Drood Tickets Through March 10, 2013

The Mystery of Edwin Drood began preview performances in New York City on October 19, 2012 and will play until March 10, 2013.  The show is staged as a play within a play and is based on an unfinished novel by Charles Dickens as he died before completing it.

The Mystery of Edwin Drood takes place in the world of music hall and pantomime while following the members of the Theatre Royale Music Hall Company as the players try to finish the story of Edwin Drood.  They enlist some sing-along assistance from the theatre audience as well.

The show tells the tale of a young man named Edwin Drood, an Englishman who suddenly disappears causing the local fictitious town people of Cloisterham into a panic.  Naturally many of the people start pointing fingers at one another trying to figure out who is ultimately responsible for Edwin's disappearance.  Not before long, we get to see many possible suspects including Edwin's fiance Rosa Bud, a handsome yet villainous sort named John Jasper, Princess Puffer, the local opium den shop keeper as well as Helena and Neville Landless, local town siblings.

The Mystery of Edwin Drood is fortunate to have Broadway regulars Chita Rivera, Stephanie J. Block, Will Chase and Gregg Edelman star in the show.  The creative talent are Rupert Holmes who wrote the Music, Lyrics, Orchestrations and Book of this show as well as Scott Ellis the director.  The choreography is by Warren Carlyle with set and costume designs by Anna Louizos and William Ivey Long.

The show is one of the most unique any theatergoer will get to see.  If you think you might want to obtain The Mystery of Edwin Drood tickets please call me at the contact information below.

New Musical Hands On A Hardbody To Debut On Broadway This February

Hands On A Hardbody? Nice title huh? Now I'll be honest that when I first heard it I thought it was going to about something else. Oh come on people. I'm sure you were thinking the same thing. Anyway as it turns out the show isn't what I thought it was at all. Oh well. Not like I haven't been wrong before. Remember a little show called Ain't Misbehavin' that opened in the late 1970's? Who would have thought that is was a show featuring the music of some guy named Fats Waller? See what I mean? Anyway enough about me and my sick mind. Instead what don't I tell you what the show is really about. Here is a brief synopsis about Hands On A Hardbody from it's official website. Enjoy!

For 10 hard-luck Texans, a new lease on life is so close they can touch it. Under a scorching sun for days on end, armed with nothing but hope, humor and ambition, they'll fight to keep at least one hand on a brand-new truck in order to win it. In the hilarious, hard-fought contest that is HANDS ON A HARDBODY only one winner can drive away with the American Dream. Sounds like it coud be a lot of fun. Previews for the show are set to begin at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on February 23 with opening scheduled for March 21. Get your tickets to see Hands On A Hardbody. Should make for an interesting night in the theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Obtain The Heiress Tickets on Broadway through February 10, 2013

David Strathairn is one of my favorite actors. For the past few months he has been appearing in a great play called The Heiress, at the Walter Kerr Theatre in New York City.  Mr. Strathairn, playing the role of Dr. Austin Sloper, stars along with Jessica Chastain, Dan Stevens and Judith Ivey in a play written by Ruth and Augustus Goetz.

The Heiress tells the story of Catherine Sloper, an ordinary looking young, awkward, unmarried woman, who desperately longs for love with a handsome suitor by the name of Morris Townsend.  Catherine's father suspects that Morris is only after the family's money and Catherine is caught between the two of them.  Even though Dr. Sloper tells Catherine he will "write her out of his will" if she marries Morris, Catherine is forced to chose between her ailing father and the man she wants to marry.

The play takes place in 1850's New York City, in the Sloper townhouse.  The sets are exquisite having been designed by Derek McLane and the extremely unique costume designs of this time period are by Albert Wolsky.  Both have done a wonderful job of conveying the time the play takes place in for sure.  Brilliant direction is by Moises Kaufman who has done allot on Broadway over the years.

I personally saw the show a few months ago when it began previews, and although I generally prefer Broadway musicals, I do have to say that the play and the actors were quite captivating.  I really thoroughly enjoyed myself after obtaining The Heiress tickets and have suggested it often to those seeking non-musical choices on Broadway.

Right now, The Heiress tickets are on discount through February 3, 2013, one week before the shows closing date.  If you think you might want to purchase The Heiress tickets, you can consider calling Applause-Tickets.com at the following contact phone numbers below.  I hope you enjoyed this article on The Heiress tickets.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the great country of Brazil. Yesterday afternoon I had a young couple come up to our office looking for tickets to the New York Knicks. Right away I knew that they were my kind of people. Knicks fan since 1999 and proud of it. So anyway after sharing my mutual love for the Knicks with them I asked them when they wanted to go. Since they were leaving on Wednesday that left only one choice. New Year's Day. Now that's what I call a perfect way to ring in the New Year. Even better if they win. I hope I didn't just jinx them. Anyway so now that I knew when they wanted to go I needed to find out where they wanted to sit and how much they wanted to spend. Knicks tickets aren't cheap. After a little research and assistance from my colleague Claudia we were able to locate some very nice seats just a few rows from the court. Sounds like good seats to me. Now I know what you are all wondering. How much did they cost? Well when all was said and done I was able to get both tickets for $600. Yes I know that probably sounds like a lot but come on people. We are talking about the NEW YORK FREAKIN' KNICKS! Trust me. They are worth it. Not only that but after we were finished I brought them in to the office so they could see my cubicle. Why you ask? To see my New York Knicks shrine of course. So there you have it folks. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Alec Balwin To Return To Broadway in Revival Of Orphans

That's right theatre fans. Alec Baldwin, the Emmy Award winning star of 30 Rock will make his highly anticipated return to Broadway this Spring in a revival of Orphans. Oh and did I mention it also stars rising film star Shia LaBeouf (Transformers, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull). Now while this production will mark it's Broadway debut the show did play acclaimed engagements in both Chicago and London in the 1980's as well as a sold out production in 2005 starring Al Pacino. For those of you who are not familiar with the play here is a brief synopsis according to the shows website.

Two orphaned brothers are living in a decrepit North Philadelphia row house. Treat, the eldest, supports his damaged younger sibling by petty thievery, and makes the house a virtual prison for the seemingly simple-minded Phillip. One night he kidnaps a rich older man; Harold turns out to have his own motives and becomes the father figure the boys have always yearned for.
Previews are set to begin at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on March 19, 2013 with opening night scheduled for April 7, 2013. Now while I am not familiar with the show I can't wait to see Alec Baldwin again on a Broadway stage. It has been too long in my opinion. Tickets for Orphans are set to go on sale on December 30 so don't delay. Call now. Get your tickets to see Orphans on Broadway. Who knows? Maybe I'll see you there.

Breakfast at Tiffany's To Open On Broadway This Spring

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Breakfast at Tiffany's a song by Deep Blue Something? Came out in 1995 I believe. Pretty catchy song if I remember right. No? Wrong Breakfast at Tiffany's. Oh that's right. There was a movie called Breakfast at Tiffany's wasn't there. My bad. Now I've never seen the movie. I do know that it starred Audrey Hepburn and is famous for the song "Moon River" which won that year's Academy Award for Best Song of the Year. Now while the movie was successful when it opened back in 1961 this new production will mark Breakfast at Tiffany's debut on a Broadway stage. Actually that's not true. There was a musical version in 1966 starring Mary Tyler Moore and Richard Chamberlin. Unfortunately it only lasted four previews and never officially opened. Let's hope this production has better luck. Starring in the lead role as Holly Golightly is Emila Clarke (HBO's Game of Thrones). Like I said I've never seen the movie but I do love Game of Thrones so maybe I will have to check this one out. Previews begin on March 4, 2013 at the Cort Theatre with opening night scheduled for March 20,2013. Get your tickets to see Breakfast at Tiffany's on Broadway. Until next time theatre fans.

Tickets Now On Sale For New Musical Kinky Boots

Now I'll admit that when I first heard they were making a musical called Kink Boots I wasn't sure what to think. Then I read that the book was by four-time Tony winner Harvey Fierstein. At that moment I became intrigued. Now if that wasn't enough to make me want to see it then I found out that Grammy winning singer Cyndi Lauper was doing the score. No to mention that the show got rave reviews in Chicago. That's when I knew I had to see this show. The only downfall is now I have to wait over two months to see it. Oh well. It will be March before I know it. For those of you that are not familiar with Kinky Boots it is actually based on the 2005 British film which while did not get great reviews has since gained cult status since it's release. For those of you are who are not familiar with the story here is a brief synopsis from the shows official website.

Charlie Price (Tony nominee Stark Sands) has suddenly inherited his father’s shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. Trying to live up to his father’s legacy and save his family business, Charlie finds inspiration in the form of Lola (Billy Porter). A fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos, Lola turns out to be the one person who can help Charlie become the man he’s meant to be. As they work to turn the factory around, this unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible… and discovers that when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world. Featuring a sensational new score, knockout dancing and a spectacularly uplifting story, Kinky Boots is the must-see new musical that proves that sometimes, the best way to fit in is to stand out!

Now I don't know about you but that sounds like one interesting night in the theatre. Previews for Kinky Boots are set to begin on March 3 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre with opening night scheduled for April 4. Tickets for Kinky Boots are set to go on sale in the next few weeks so don't delay. Get your tickets to see Kinky Boots on Broadway. Expect the show to be a big contender at this years Tony Awards. That's right. Cinderella is coming to the Great White Way. And no it's not the Disney version. Although I'm sure they've thought of it. This new production is from Broadway legends Rodgers and Hammerstein. Now I know you've heard of them right? Of course you have. They are of course are the brains behind Oklahoma, The Sound of Music, Carousel, and The King and I, and South Pacific. Now is it ringing a bell? I thought so. Previews are scheduled to begin at the Broadway Theatre on January 25 with opening night set for March 3. Two-Tme Tony Winner Nathan Lane To Return To Broadway This Spring In The Nance

That's right theatre fans. One of Broadway's most beloved stars will soon be back where he belongs. Nathan Lane, who was last on the boards in The Addams Family will begin previews on March 21 in The Nance. The show which is written by Tony nominee Douglas Carter Beane will officially open at the Lyceum Theatre on April 15. Here is a description of the show from it's official website.

"In The Nance, playwright Douglas Carter Beane tells the story of Chauncey Miles (to be played by Nathan Lane), a headline nance performer in New York burlesque, who also happens to be a homosexual. Integrating burlesque sketches into his drama, Beane paints, with humor and pathos, the portrait of a homosexual man, living and working in the secretive and dangerous gay world of 1930's New York, whose outrageous antics on the burlesque stage stand in marked contrast to his messy offstage life."

Nathan Lane is always a big draw at the box office so I would imagine that the show will do very well. We shall see. Tickets are expected to go on sale in the next few weeks so be sure to check back soon.

Lucky Guy Tickets on Broadway

If you're a Tom Hanks fan, I think you'll be in for a great treat at the Broadhurst Theatre starting on March 1 and playing through May 19, 2013.  Mr. Hanks will finally make his Broadway debut in the world premiere of Nora Ephron's new play called Lucky Guy.

In Ms. Ephron's early career she was a journalist for the New York Post, a local New York newspaper.  She had a phenomenally successful career writing books, essays and films, including When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail.  I had the opportunity to see Ms. Ephron being interviewed quite frequently over the years and am really looking forward to obtaining Lucky Guy tickets myself in the near future.  She died in June of 2012.  It's kind of exciting to get to see a new body of work by a very talented writer.

Lucky Guy tells the story of Mike McAlary, an often controversial tabloid columnist who wrote for the New York Post and the New York Daily News.  Mr. McAlary was sued for libel after writing 3 columns questioning whether a former Yale University student had her reputation damaged after claiming she had been raped.  He was cleared of the charges in 1977.  In addition, he often wrote about crime in New York City and police corruption scandals of the 1980's and 1990's.  He landed a Pulitzer Prize in 1998 for commentary he contributed for his coverage of the Abner Louima police brutality case.

Lucky Guy is directed by George C. Wolfe, famous for his work in Angels in America, Bring In Da Noise, Bring In Da Funk, The Normal Heart and some others on Broadway.  The show is a limited engagement as Hollywood stars usually have other commitments.

If you're interested in obtaining Lucky Guy tickets, please contact me personally at the contact information below.  I hope you found this article on Lucky Guy tickets and the show interesting and helpful.

Ann Tickets On Broadway

New York's Lincoln Center and the Vivian Beaumont Theatre welcome a new one woman show called "Ann".  Ann is a new show written by and starring Holland Taylor, who plays former Texas Governor Ann Richards.  Ms. Taylor won an Emmy Award for her role in Two and a Half Men.  Governor Richards had dedicated most of her life to enriching the lives of her constituents, family and many friends of hers.

My understanding is that the show Ann has played all throughout the state of Texas to capacity audiences and then had successful engagements at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. as well as in Chicago.  Ann is directed by Benjamin Endsley Klein, the resident director of War Horse, which played both in New York and in London.

Ann Richards is portrayed by Ms. Taylor  with a very keen sense of humor.  Ms. Taylor is on record as saying that "most of the play is based on stories told to me in significant detail, including some dialogue, by the players themselves.  The show is very funny and takes the audience on a journey that is neither political nor particularly historical, managing to bring together the past and the present, while at the same time introducing Mr. Richards character to a brand new generation.

Individual and group Ann tickets on Broadway are available by calling the local Broadway ticket experts at Applause-Tickets.com .  Applause is open 7 days a week from 8am till midnight and can be very helpful with information about Ann tickets as well as all of the shows and events playing in New York City.

I hope you find this article on Ann tickets helpful.  if you need assistance, just give a call to me at:

Picnic Tickets, a New Broadway Show

A new Broadway show is playing at New York's American Airlines Theatre, located at 227 West 42nd Street and it's called Picnic.  Picnic is a new production of a 1953 play that the Roundabout Theatre Company, one of the long time great show producers in New York City is staging.  It originally debuted in New York City at the Music Box Theatre and ran for 477 performances.

Picnic tickets have been on sale for several weeks now.  The show opens officially to critics reviews on January 13, 2013 for a limited run through February 24, 2013.

Picnic is written by William Inge who won a Pulitzer Prize for this work.  The show is directed by Sam Gold who also directed Look Back in Anger and Seminar.  Stars of the show include Academy Award winner Ellen Burstyn, Reed Birney, Elizabeth Marvel, Maggie Grace, Sebastian Stan, Ben Rappaport, Madeline Martin and Emmy Award winner Mare Winningham.  Ms. Winningham recently performed in the very popular Off Broadway show Tribes.

The story line is a very interesting one indeed.  It's Labor Day and some local ladies are getting ready for a picnic.  As they prepare, a good looking young drifter named Hal uses his charming ways to flirt with a few of the women, both obviously excited to be near him.  Several conflicts arise at the same time during the picnic and Hal is forced to leave town.  Although Madge is conflicted over her relationship with both Hal and Alan, she finally comes to a conclusion about how she really feels and makes an important decision on what to do.  Is she going to be with Hal or will she stay wit Alan?

Right now, our company is offering discount seating on all Picnic tickets purchased through Applause-Tickets.com through January 31, 2013.  Although it is possible this special discount may be extended through the closing date of the show, we will wait to see.  Meanwhile if you would like to obtain Picnic tickets, kindly give a call to the friendly ticket experts at Applause right now at 212-307-7050 or 800-451-9930.  Open 7 days a week till midnight and later, these folks are a friendly group and love talking about the theatre.  Give a call, you'll be glad you did.

I hope you enjoyed reading about Picnic tickets and this show.  It's not often that the public gets to see a Pulitzer Prize winning theatre piece.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the great state of California. San Francisco to be exact. A couple of days ago I received an email from a travel agent who's client was planning a trip to London after the first of the year and wanted to see a couple of  shows while they were there. Scratch that. She wanted to see four shows. All of them plays. What? Do they have something against musicals? To be honest I don't blame them. When I first moved to New York all I wanted to see were musicals. Now? Give me a good old fashioned play and I am satisfied. Anyway enough about me. So so now that I knew when they would be there I needed to find out what they wanted to see. Her choices were Richard III, Judas Kiss, Goodnight Mr. Tom, and Henry V starring Jude Law. Unfortunately Henry V was not starting until November so they had to pick something else. Finally after discussing it with her husband they chose The Mousetrap. Which is case you didn't know has been playing in London since 1952. After all was said and done I was able to get them excellent seats in the Center Stalls (Orchestra) for all four shows. Not only that but at a rate that was lower than they were expecting. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Now In It's Tenth Year Avenue Q Remains One Of New York's Funniest Shows

I can't begin to tell you how much I love Avenue Q. In fact not only have I seen the show over a half a dozen times but it was also the first Broadway show that my parent's ever saw. In fact they still ask me about it and that was over nine years ago. I guess they liked it. I take that back. They loved it. What's not to love? Puppets? Check. Great songs? Check. Oh and did I mention how funny it is? The first time I saw it I laughed so much that I must of missed some stuff because every time I went back I swear I heard something new. Thank goodness I bought the cast recording. Now for those of you who still haven't seen it yet do I have good news for you. Good seats are available and at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Insider Price" is good thru March 24, 2013 it is not good for Saturday evening performances and subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Avenue Q. You will laugh your a** off.

Barry Manilow on Broadway Tickets on Sale January 18-February 9, 2013

I can remember seeing Barry Manilow during his 12 day concert engagement when he played at New York's Uris Theater (renamed years later to the Gershwin Theater) during December 1977.  It's hard to believe that 35 years have passed.  Although he has played other concerts in New York after 1977, it has been over 20 years now since Mr. Manilow has been seen playing live concerts in New York City.  He received a special Tony Award for his Barry Manilow on Broadway concert stint in 1977.

Barry Manilow is a Grammy Award-winning singer- songwriter and an excellent entertainer who has met with great success during his career and will play 17 performances only, at New York's Saint James Theater located at 44th Street, between Broadway and 8th Avenues.

Barry Manilow is best known for writing dozens and dozens of popular songs such as "Mandy", " I Write The Songs", " Copacabana", " Can't Smile Without You", " Weekend in New England" and hundreds more.

Barry Manilow tickets are on sale now for his New York City concert appearances on Tuesdays through Saturday evenings from January 18 through February 9, 2013.  Unlike the typical Broadway show schedule, he will perform 5 days a week, playing in the evenings between 7 and 8pm.

Mr. Manilow has arranged music and produced albums for Dionne Warwick and Bette Midler and has been playing headliner shows in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Hilton and Paris Hotel Las Vegas for several years now.  In addition he has sold more than 80 million records.  Not bad for a kid from Brooklyn, New York right?

If you are interested in purchasing Barry Manilow on Broadway tickets, you may want to contact Applause-Tickets.com , a local ticket expert for Broadway, Concerts and Sporting events.  They can be reached by calling 212-307-7050 in New York City or toll free at 800-451-9930 seven days a week from 8am till midnight.

I hope you enjoyed reading about Barry Manilow's latest concert engagement in New York City between January 18 and February 9, 2013.  Feel free to contact me if I can be of service.  Here is my full contact information at Applause-Tickets.com

Eighteen Years And Counting Stomp Is Still A Hit

Really? Stomp has been playing since 1994? Where has the time gone? Like other long running Off-Broadway shows like Blue Man Group and Fuerza Bruta I have never seen it. Look I'm sure it is entertaining. It's just the thought of a bunch of actors banging on trash cans for ninety minutes doesn't interest me. Oh well. I don't think the producers of the show are losing any sleep because I haven't seen it. By the way for those of you who still haven't seen the show there is no better time than the present. In fact if you call now we can get you tickets to see the show for less. Now while this "Special Offer" is good thru March 23,2013 it is not good for Saturday evening performances and subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Stomp. Oh sure it may not be my first choice but it might just be yours. Until next time theatre fans.

The Other Place Tickets on Broadway

I really like the stage and television work of Laurie Metcalf.  She has arrived on Broadway to lead an outstanding cast in The Other Place, a new Manhattan Theatre Club production.  The Other Place is a very well written psychological thriller by the very talented playwright Sharr White.

Although she is very well known for her work in T.V's Roseanne, Desperate Housewives and The Big Bang Theory, Ms. Metcalf has also done excellent work on Broadway in Brighton Beach Memoirs and November as well as in London productions of  Long Day's Journey Into Night and All My Sons.  Having started with the very talented and well known Steppenwolf Theater Company of Chicago, she has won 3 Emmy Awards, has been nominated 4 additional times, was nominated for 2 Golden Globe Awards, and received a Tony Award nomination for her role in Sam Shepard's Lie of the Mind.

In the Broadway show The Other Place, Laurie Metcalf is playing the leading role of Dr. Juliana Smithton, a very well respected neurologist whose husband has just filed for divorce, has a daughter planning to marry a much older man while her own health is in jeopardy as well.  Although it appears that her world is falling apart around her, what the audience gets to see is not necessarily how things really are.  As the play unfolds we see that the past collides with the present and what facts we know aren't necessarily the case and that the Dr.'s health sheds a different light on things for sure.

Daniel Stern plays Ian in The Other Place.  Mr. Stern is best known for starring in many films such as City Slickers and Home Alone amongst several others.  He also created the role of the narrator in The Wonder Years after getting his start in New York's  Public Theater and The Manhattan Theatre Club.  Zoe Perry makes her Broadway debut in The Other Place and has done quite allot of film, TV and stage in Los Angeles and John Schiappa rounds out the case having done excellent work on TV, in theatre and on film.

The Other Place is directed by 2 time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello who also directed Other Desert Cities, Wicked and Love! Valour! Compassion!

The Other Place is playing at New York's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre located at 261 West 47th Street between Broadway and 8th Avenues.  The show is selling tickets through February 24, 2013.

Final Weeks For Off-Broadway's Fuerza Bruta

Believe it or not but in the five plus years that Fuerza Bruta has been here I have never seen it. Not that I'm sure it isn't great. A show doesn't last that long if people don't enjoy it. Now for those of you who still haven't seen it you don't have much time. The show which opened in October 2007 will play it's final performance at the Daryl Roth Theatre on February 3, 2013. Good seats are still available for every performance. I take that back. There are no seats. Why you ask? Because you are standing for the whole show. Don't worry. The shows only sixty-five minutes. Get your tickets to see Fuerza Bruta. Time is running out.

See Tony Winner Norbert Leo Butz And Katie Holmes In Dead Accounts On Broadway

Still haven't seen Dead Accounts? Well there is no better time than the present. I have to say that I can't recall a time when I laughed so much as I did during this show. It was hysterical. Oh sure I knew going in that Norbert Leo Butz would be good. He's never let me down yet. However I was not expecting that Katie Holmes would be just as good as him. Not to mention the rest of the cast. Plus at a running time of two hours including intermission it makes for a great evening. As of right now the show is only on sale thru February 24 which according to the website is the final performance. That means you have less than two months to see it. So what are you waiting for people? Good seats are available for every performance. Not only that but at some incredible savings. Get your tickets to see Dead Accounts on Broadway. You will love it. Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from Sydney, Australia. Believe it or not but we actually get a lot of business from "Down Under". So anyway yesterday afternoon two young ladies came up to our office looking for tickets to a show for this week. Now of course right away I knew that they had the New York Pass. How did I know that you ask? Well because practically everybody that comes to our office to purchase tickets is because they have the pass. Which means they get a discount. Now does it make sense? Not only do they get a great deal on theatre tickets but the prices for the most part are lower than if they walked up to the theatre themselves. Sounds like a good deal to me. I asked them what they wanted to see and their first choice was Mary Poppins. Now normally we are able to get tickets for that show at a lower rate. However because of the holidays very few shows will offer any kind of discount. Luckily for them I was able to locate some very nice seats in the Balcony which in case you were wondering is still a good view. Yes that's right. No binoculars needed. Plus it ended up being a little less than they were expecting. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Flashdance The Musical Tickets on Broadway

Although I'm in my mid fifties now, I can clearly remember the poster of actress Jennifer Beals wearing a gray sweatshirt with a large neck hole in it.  She was advertising the 1983 popular film by the name of Flashdance.  Although the film, billed as a romantic drama, originally received many negative reviews from critics all over the world, Flashdance went on to become one of the most popular films of the period.

Flashdance, the movie that often had scenes that were reminiscent of music videos of the time tells the interesting story of Alex Owens, played by Jennifer Beals, who was an aspiring professional dancer whose goal was to be able to attend the Pittsburgh Conservatory of Dance and Repertory, a prestigious dance academy.  While taking dance lessons, Alex held a job working as a welder in the local steel mill in town and doing exotic dancing at a bar at night.  Alex's love interest in the film was Nick Hurley, played by long time actor Michael Nouri, the star of many movies and the Broadway stage as well.  Nick is the owner of the steel mill who falls for Alex immediately and manages to get her an audition at the school by asking for a favor.

Some 30 years later, after playing in London's West End as a musical stage adaption of the movie for a short while and closing in early 2011, a local team of Broadway producers is bringing Flashdance the Musical to Broadway for an open ended run at one of Broadway's top theaters.  Right now the show is planning to play on Broadway in August of 2013.

I can still remember so many of the great songs that will be an integral part of Flashdance the Musical.  The ones that stand out the most are " I Love Rock and Roll", " Maniac", " Gloria", and especially Irene Cara's hit song Flashdance...What a Feeling".  The pre-Broadway tour will be directed and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo, who is very well known for his work in Memphis the Musical and Jersey Boys on Broadway.  The tour starts this month and is scheduled to play in 25 markets around the country.  Although there have been no casting announcements yet, I have learned that the London version of this musical will be mostly rewritten with a substantial re staging of the show by the new producing team.

Annie Is Back and Taking Broadway By Storm

That's right theatre fans. Your favorite redheaded orphan is back on Broadway where she belongs. The show which opened to rave reviews last month continues to delight audiences of all ages eight times a week at the Palace Theatre. Now when I first heard that the show was coming back I admit that I didn't think it would do very well. After all the 1997 production was not successful and closed at a loss. Yet here we are some fifteen years later and Annie is a hit. Who would have thought? Now that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. Good seats are available for most performances. London Production Of Matilda To Open On Broadway This Spring

That's right theatre fans. One of London's most successful shows of all time is set to make it's Broadway debut this Spring. Matilda, which is based on the Roald Dahl novel and the 1996 film is set to begin previews at the Shubert Theatre March 4, 2013 with opening night scheduled for April 11. Now even though I have never read the book or seen the movie for that matter I expect the show to do very well. To me it sounds like another Billy Elliot. Of course that show went on to win ten 2009 Tony Awards including Best Musical and ran for over three years. Although truth be told most people thought it should have run a lot longer. Will lighting strike twice? We shall see. Get your tickets to see Matilda on Broadway. Good seats are now available so call now.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from Candler, North Carolina. Earlier today I received an email from one of our regular customers who's client was looking for tickets to see the New York Knicks in January. Being a huge Knicks fan myself I was more than happy to help. Not that I wouldn't be if it was the Boston Celtics or the Brooklyn Nets. I do have a job to do after all. So anyway after finding out when they wanted to go I asked them where they wanted to sit and how much they wanted to spend. Well as it turns out he had called a few days earlier and spoke to Todd in my office and was quoted specific seats and prices. Of course by the time he called back they were already gone. However after a little research I was able to find him comparable seats for only a few dollars more. Plus I was able to have the tickets emailed to him which saved him the twenty-five dollar shipping fee. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Texas. Houston to be exact. Now like most of my customer stories this one involves a travel agent. However this time the tickets weren't for a client but for herself. Now when travel agents use Applause they get a commission for every ticket sold. Sounds like a good deal to me. But when they order tickets for themselves they along with every person in their party get a discount as well. While they don't make commission they end up saving a lot more. Another great deal wouldn't you say? So anyway after finding out when they would be here I asked her what she wanted to see. Her choice? Jersey Boys. The 2006 Tony Award winner for Best Musical of the Year. Which by the way remains one of Broadway's biggest hits. Not too bad for a show that opened seven years ago. After telling her how much it would cost she decided to go with the Rear Mezzanine as it is not only a lower price but also still a great view. In fact when I first saw the show five years ago I was in the last row on the side and saw everything. How many theatres can say that? Not too many. Plus with her travel agent discount the tickets ended up being lower than she was expecting. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

My Thoughts On The Current Broadway Season

Can you believe that that the year is almost over? Just think. In less than eleven days it will be 2013. Scary right? Now when I take a look back at the season so far I can truthfully say that for the most part it hasn't been that impressive. Think about it. Two musicals and one play have either already closed or will close after the first of the year. Yes I know shows close all the time. That will never change. The good thing is that the rest of the season looks promising. Matilda, based on the Roald Dahl novel and the 1996 film, is set to begin previews at the Shubert Theatre March 2013. The show won seven 2012 Olivier Awards including Best Musical of the Year. Which by the way is the most awards ever won by one show in the awards history. Will lighting strike twice? We shall see.

Now while I am sure the show will be a big hit the one that I am looking most forward to is Motown: The Musical. Now I'm guessing by the title alone you can figure out what it's about. However for those of you who want more information here is a blurb about the show for the official website. Motown: The Musical is the real story of the one-of-a-kind sound that hit the airwaves in 1959 and changed our culture forever. This exhilarating show charts Motown founder Barry Gordy's incredible journey from featherweight boxer to the heavyweight music mogul who launched the careers of Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye and so many more. Featuring the classics you love, Motown:The Musical tells the story behind the hits as Diana, Smokey, Berry and the whole Motown family fight against the odds to create the soundtrack that changed America. Motown shattered barriers, shaped our lives and made us all move to the same beat.

Now if that doesn't make you want to see it then I don't know what will. Believe it or not but between now and the end of April there are a total of sixteen shows scheduled to open. Here is a list of those shows in alphabetical order. Ann, The Assembled Parties, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, Cinderella, Hands On A Hardbody, Kinky Boots, Matilda, Motown: The Musical, The Nance, Orphans, The Other Place, Picnic, Pump Boys and Dinettes, and The Trip To Bountiful. Which one's will fail and which one's will succeed? We will soon find out. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Montpelier, Vermont. Earlier this month I received a call from a travel agent who's client was planning a trip to New York in February and wanted to see two shows. Their choices were Evita and The Book of Mormon. Two very popular choices. In case you didn't know February is a perfect month to go because that is time when less people come to New York. That also means that you will usually find better seats and even better prices. Luckily for them we had seats in our inventory for Mormon so the rates were a little lower than she had anticipated. The tickets were in Row R of the Orchestra seats 9 and 11 which are together by the way. Yes I know Row R may sound a little far back but it is a very small theatre. Oh sure I guess if they wanted to I could have gotten them seats closer to the stage. However those tickets would have been a lot more.

How much more? About $200 or $300 per ticket. Suffice to say they were very happy with what we gave them. One show down. One to go. Now when she told me that they wanted to see Evita I mentioned to the agent that even though the shows current stars would be leaving on January 26 the show would continue. Which brings me to the reason for today's blog. Less than two weeks after I sold them the tickets the producers of the show announced that the show would now close when their stars departed. I then called the agent to tell her the bad news and told her that we could either book them into a new show or we could offer them a full refund. Thankfully they decided on a new show. Their choice? Avenue Q. Which by the way is one of my favorites. In fact I've seen it five times. I guess you could say I'm a fan. Anyway since the show was a lot less than Evita I refunded them the balance which means they now had a little extra spending money for their trip. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Broadway Production Of Chicago Celebrates Milestone

Can you believe that it's been over sixteen years since the revival of Chicago opened on Broadway? I sure can't. Not only that but tonight the show will surpass Les Miserables to become the third longest running show in Broadway history. Most people probably forget that the show wasn't a big hit when it first opened back in 1975. Oh sure it had a respectable run of almost two years but was overshadowed by A Chorus Line which swept the 1975 Tony Awards. Cut to twenty-years later and the show returns to New York for a four performance run at Encores. Nobody could have expected what would happen next. The show was of course a surprise hit and moved to Broadway in the fall where to this day it remains one of Broadway's most popular shows. Even after all these years we still get calls everyday asking for tickets to see the show. Now while I enjoyed it when I first saw it back in 1997 I never thought I would still be blogging about it all these years later. I guess you never can tell. Tonight the show will play it's 6,681 performance. Only 805 performances until it passes Cats. Now that will be cause for celebration. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Tennessee. Johnson City to be exact. Two days ago I received a call from a travel agent who's client was planning a trip to New York at the end of the year and wanted to see a few shows. I take that back. They wanted to see four shows. Their choices were The Lion King, Evita, Jersey Boys, and The Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Now since it was last minute the knew that getting tickets might be difficult. Not to mention expensive. They were right. Luckily because they weren't too picky about their seats I was able to get them a lower rate for The Lion King. Oh sure they weren't sitting in the first ten rows of the Orchestra but the seats were still pretty good. After all the theatres in New York are not very big. Bet you didn't know that did you? One show down. Three to go. Anyway because they were willing to go to an earlier show for the Christmas Spectacular I was able to get them very nice seats for a price that was below are normal rate. Two down. Two to go. Once again I was able to get excellent seats for both Evita and Jersey Boys. Not only that but at a price that was lower than they has seen anywhere else. So there you have it folks. Four great shows and even better than that at some great prices. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from Germany. This past Friday I had two gentleman come to our office asking about getting tickets with their New York Pass. For those of you who are not familiar with it the Pass gives you discounts on tours and events around the New York City area. Plus of course they get a great discount on theatre tickets as well.  At first they couldn't decide as one of them wanted to see A Christmas Story and the other one didn't. However they both agreed on Chicago. When all was said and done I was able to find a very nice seat in the Center Mezzanine for A Christmas Story and two center seats in the Rear Mezzanine for Chicago. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from Park Ridge, New Jersey. Last Friday I received a call from a very nice lady from The Hertz Corporation. Her company was planning a trip to New York in January and wanted to see what shows were available. Since they were a large group she knew that everybody would probably not want to see the same thing. Therefore she asked me if I could put together a list of ten shows and prices and forward them to here. I told her that would not be a problem and that I would have a list to her as soon as possible. Now to be honest when it comes to going to the theatre I am very picky. Just because I like it doesn't mean everybody else will. Anyway here are the list of shows that I suggested. The Lion King, Chicago, Evita,Mary Poppins,Jersey Boys,Nice Work If You Can Get It, Spider-Man,Mamma Mia, Rock of Ages and Wicked.  Now of those ten shows I have seen five of them. Now I won't bore you with which ones I saw. I will tell you though that my two favorites were Jersey Boys and Rock of Ages. Cut to four days later and she had narrowed it down to four shows. In the end they ended up going with Jersey Boys and Chicago. Well at least they picked one of my favorites right? When all was said and done they ended up getting twenty-two tickets for Jersey Boys and twenty tickets for Chicago and all of them in the Center Front Mezzanine. Which by the way is the best place to sit. Not just for those shows mind you but for almost every show on Broadway. So there you have it folks. Forty-two tickets and great seats to boot. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from New Canaan, Connecticut. Earlier this morning I received a call from a customer who had called me last week looking for tickets to see Annie and The Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Obviously she was looking to go in the next couple of weeks since Radio City is closing at the end of the month. So anyway now that I knew when she would be here I asked her when she wanted to go and how many tickets she needed. Well as it turns out she needed twelve tickets. I guess she has a big family huh? She also mentioned to me that I had suggested to her that if she went to the 9am show that the prices would be lower. That's true. Oh sure that means that she would have to wake up a little earlier but a bargain is a bargain. After all was said and done I was able to find them seats back to back in the Center Orchestra. Not only that but at a price that was lower than I had originally quoted her. I guess it pays to wait a little bit in case the prices go down. One show down. One to go. Well as it turns out she decided to hold off onAnnie because I told her that by waiting a few weeks we should be able to get a discounted price like I got for the other show. She appreciated that and I told her that I would call her once they go on sale. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

What To See In New York City Right Now

It's hard to believe but in less than three weeks we will be saying goodbye to 2012 and hello to 2013. Where has the time gone? It seems like only yesterday that I was returning home from my annual trip to my parents house for the holidays and here we are about to celebrate Christmas and New Year's once again. Oh well. Bring on the presents and party hats I say. Now for those of you that are coming to New York for the holidays there is plenty of things to see and do. It is the greatest city in the whole world after all. O.K. I admit. I'm a little bias. But come on people. It's New York Freakin' City. We are open 24/7. Well not everything but you get my point. How about a Broadway show? There are over thirty shows playing right now. Plus don't forget the Radio City Christmas Spectacular or the Nutcracker. Maybe theatre isn't your thing. Maybe your a sports fan like me. How about those Knicks? Undefeated at home and first place in the East. It doesn't get better than that my friends. Here at Applause we sell it all and then some. So why not give us a call? You'll be glad you did.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from Shreveport, Louisiana. Late yesterday evening I received a call from a gentleman who was looking for tickets to see two shows in New York for the holiday season. I asked him what he wanted to see and his two choices were The Book of Mormon and The Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Care to guess what these two shows have in common? That's right. Absolutely nothing. One is family friendly and the other one....well not so much. So anyway after finding out when he would be here I asked him when he wanted to go and how much he wanted to spend. He told me that a friend of his had called us last week and got tickets for The Book of Mormon and was wondering if we had any seats still available at the same price.

Luckily for him there were still a few seats left and even better seats for the same price. Well he loved that. Now while he knew that Radio City would not be as expensive as Mormon he was hoping that he could get a lower price since it was after Christmas. I told that him that if he was willing to go to an earlier show that not only would I probably be able to get him excellent seats but at a reduced rate. Sure enough I was able to get him very nice seats in the Orchestra for the 11am show. Not only that but at a lower price than he was expecting. Plus I found a great couple of restaurants for him and his wife to check out while they were here. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from Miami, Florida. Believe it or not but it actually feels like Florida here in New York. It's supposed to get up to 63 degrees today. Sunshine in December. Who would have thought? So anyway earlier today I received a call from a travel agent who's client was planning a last minute trip to New York at the end of the month and wanted to see a couple of shows while they were here. Their choices were The Lion King and Wicked. Now since they were calling so late I assumed it might be difficult to find seats for them. Luckily we had some seats in our inventory for a lower rate in the Mezzanine. Well they loved that. Plus since I was able to get them at a price that was less than they had expected I was able to get then better seats for Wicked at the higher price. Don't you just love it when things work out? Wait. I'm not done. Not only did they purchase tickets from us but they also needed car transfers to and from the airport. Let me guess? You didn't know we offered that did you? Well we do. Thanks to the great people at ExecuCar and Applause you can now book your own personal Sedan or SUV. Enjoy the sight and sounds of New York as you ride in style. Makes you want to book your own car right now doesn't it? So there you have it folks. Two great shows and a chauffeur both at amazing prices. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from Dallas, Texas. No surprise there as I recently mentioned in a previous blog that my last few customer stories have been from there. Like I said before. Texans love the theatre. The only thing difference between this customer story and all the other ones is that this one is not mine. No the credit for this one goes to my colleague Claudia. Yesterday afternoon she got a call from a former customer of hers who had purchased tickets from her back in 2008. Well it turns out that they had such a good time that they decided to use us again on their next trip. Now that's what I call a great customer. So anyway after finding out when they would be here Claudia asked what they wanted to see. Their choices were Elf, Bring It On, Mamma Mia, and The Radio City Music Spectacular. Oh did I mention that they wanted to see a show every day? Now I love going to the theatre as much as the next guy but that's a lot. Plus they needed seven tickets for each show.

Well actually that's not true as two people in the party did not want to see Mamma Mia. I guess they aren't ABBA fans. As it turns out they were leaving early. Oh well. So now that she knew what they wanted to see she needed to find out how much they wanted to spend and where they wanted to sit. Now because they were coming during the holiday season they knew that the seats would probably be a little more expensive. Makes sense to me. Luckily Claudia was able to find some better prices as well as better seats by splitting them up. When all was said and done she was able to get them tickets for Elf and Bring it On in front of each other and at a rate that was lower than they were expecting. Two shows down. Two to go. After a little checking around she was able to get them seven tickets together in the Orchestra for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and five tickets in the Orchestra for Mamma Mia. So there you have it folks. Four great shows and four amazing prices. Plus she gave them some great restaurant suggestions to check out while they were here. Way to go Claudia! Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from our friends up North. That's right. I am talking about Canada. Hearst, Ontario to be exact. This past Friday I received a call from a travel agent inquiring about tickets for two shows in Las Vegas. Let me guess. You didn't know we sold shows for that city did you? Well we do. Anyway the shows that her client wanted to see were Celine Dion and Cirque du Soleil:O. Now believe it or not but I have never been to a Cirque show. Celine either for that matter. Yes I know that they are very popular. That's why I got the call. So know that that I knew what they wanted to see I needed to find out when they wanted to go. Of course they wanted to go during the most popular time of the year. Give up? No it's not President's Day Weekend. It's none other than New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Now they knew that getting tickets might be difficult as well as expensive. They were right. However she needed to run the prices by her client and get back to me. Cut to three days later and the agent called ma back saying it was a go. Now normally we mail the tickets to the customer but to make it easier as well as less expensive I was able to email the tickets to the agent and she in turn could email them to her client. So there you have it folks. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?
