Tony Winner Avenue Q Celebrates 10 Years In New York

Has it really been ten years since one of the funniest shows ever first opened in the Big Apple? My how time flies. Avenue Q, which first opened Off Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre on July 31,2003 before heading uptown to Broadway is celebrating it's 10th Anniversary. The show which won the 2004 Award for Best Musical of the Year is now back Off-Broadway at New World Stages where it has been playing since October 2009.

Now for those of you who haven't seen it I just have one thing to say to you. Where have you been for the past ten years people? Avenue Q is a laugh riot from beginning to end. In fact not only have I seen the show five times but it is also the first Broadway show that my parents ever saw. In fact they still ask me about it and that was over nine years ago. I guess they liked it huh? Still not convinced? Well for those of you out there who are still on the fence here is a brief synopsis of Avenue Q from the show's official website. Enjoy!

Avenue Q is the "hilarious and internationally-acclaimed musical about a group of 20-somethings — people and puppets alike — who move to New York with big dreams and tiny bank accounts. Together they live as neighbors on a street in New York as they try to discover their purpose in life." The musical's characters include Princeton, Kate Monster, Trekkie Monster, Lucy, Nicky, Rod, Gary Coleman, Brian and Christmas Eve. The score includes "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist," "If You Were Gay," "The More You Ruv Someone" and "Schadenfreude."

Let me guess. You all want to see it now don't you? Well good news theatre fans. You have come to the right place. Not only do we sell tickets for Avenue Q but every show both On and Off-Broadway. Plus if you call now you can get tickets to this award winning musical at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru September 8, 2013 it is not good for Saturday evening performances and like always subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Avenue Q at New World Stages. You will laugh your a** off. I know I did. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the Lone Star State. That's right. I am talking about the great state of Texas. El Paso to be exact. Late in the day yesterday I received a call from a travel agent who's client was planning a last minute trip to Las Vegas for the weekend and needed tickets for her an her daughter. Their choice? Why none other than one of the hottest acts around. Care to guess? No it's not Justin Bieber. Although you are getting warmer. No this particular young lady wanted to see British sensation One Direction. Now if you asked me to name one of their songs I couldn't tell you. I really don't think that I am part of the demographic that they want. .Not to mention I am not a thirteen year old girl. So anyway now that I knew what they wanted to see I needed to find out when they wanted to go and how much they wanted to spend. After all tickets were not going to be cheap. After a little research I was able to find some very nice seats and at a price that was lower than they had seen anywhere else. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Customer Story

Todays' customer story comes all the way from our neighbors up North. That's right. I am talking about Canada. Calgary, Alberta to be exact. Yesterday afternoon I spoke to a very nice gentleman on Boldchat who was planning a trip with his family to New York in September and wanted to see a few shows while they were here. Wait a minute. What the devil is Boldchat? Well in case you aren't familiar with it Boldchat is a great service that allows us to speak to our customers online while we are open. Not only can you get info about all the shows and events that we offer but you can also order tickets thru the service as well. How great is that? So anyway after finding out when he would be here I needed to find out what they wanted to see.

Their choices were Newsies, Let It Be and Kinky Boots which just won the Tony Award for Best Musical of the Year. Three great choices but three very different shows. Now since he was only going to be here for a few days he left it up to me to choose what day had the best seats. Plus he was looking for Premium seats for every show. Now for those of you that aren't familiar with that those are tickets that are usually located in the first eight to ten rows in the Center Orchestra as well as the first couple of rows in the Front Mezzanine. Oh sure they are more expensive than the other seats but if you want the best than you have to pay for it. Am I right? Because Newsies has been playing for awhile I knew I would have no problem getting him great seats. No too mention all five seats together. Oh I guess I forgot to mention that he needed five tickets didn't I?

When all was said and done I was able to get him and his whole family excellent seats in the third row center of the Orchestra. One show down. Two to go. Now for Kinky Boots they knew that it might be a little more difficult than the other two since it just won the Tony Award. They were right. In fact all the Premium tickets were sold out. They did however have some seats in the Front Mezzanine. Was it in the middle? No. In fact it was a little off to the side. Doesn't mean it's not a good view. Plus because they sat upstairs they price was lower and they still get what I think are still good seats. One more show to go. Last but not least is Let It Be which is case you haven't heard is about this little back from England called the Beatles. You've heard of them right? Of course you have. Once again I was able to get them great seats in the Center Orchestra. So there you have it folks. Three great shows with excellent seats to boot. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Customer Story

Todays' customer story comes all the way from New York, New York. Finally a customer story from the greatest city in the world. Anyway last week I received an email from a travel agent who's client was planning a trip to London in September and wanted to see a few shows while they were there. Their choices were Matilda The Musical, Top Hat, and Private Lives. Now out of all the shows the only one that I have seen is Matilda which I saw on Broadway a few months ago. I loved it.

Top Hat of course has never been here which is why I've never seen it. Makes sense as I have never been to London. Now while Private lives has been here twice in all the years that I have lived her I have never seen it. Oh well. I'm sure it will play again. So anyway now that I knew what they wanted to see I needed to find out when they would be there and of course where they wanted to sit. Since they were going to be there for a week I suggested that they do a show every other day that way they would have plenty of time do go sightseeing.

Since Matilda was the only show of the three that played on Sunday they decided to see it then. Good thing they did as they got great seats in the Center Orchestra only halfway from the stage. One show down. Two to go. For Top Hat I was able to get seats in the Orchestra and on the aisle. One show to go. For Private Lives I suggested a little closer to the stage as it is a play. They loved that. When all was said and done I was able to get them great seats for every show and at a rate that was lower than they had seen elsewhere. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

See Broadway's Tony Winning Musical Once For Less This Summer

Still haven't see the 2012 Tony Award winner for Best Musical? Well there is no better time than the present. Once, which opened to rave reviews in the Spring of 2012 is one of Broadways' most popular shows. In fact not only did it win the Tony Award for Best Musical but seven other Tony Awards plus the Grammy Award for Best Show Album of the Year. Not bad for a little show about an Irish man with a guitar and a piano playing girl from Czech Republic. Now for those of you who are not familiar with the show I have decided to include a brief synopsis of the show. Enjoy!

Once is the acclaimed new musical based on the hit independent film. Authentic, funny and refreshingly unique, Once tells the story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant drawn together by their shared love of music. Over the course of one fateful week, their unexpected friendship and collaboration evolves into a powerful but complicated romance, heightened by the raw emotion of the songs they create together.

Featuring an ensemble cast of gifted actor/musicians, helmed by the creators of the theatrical sensation Black Watch and fashioned by a team of Tony-winning designers, Once is a musical celebration of life and love: thrilling in its originality, daring in its honesty... and unforgettable in every way.

Makes you want to run out and but a ticket right now doesn't it? Which brings me to the reason for today's blog. Now is the best time to see Once on Broadway. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is goof thru the end of the month it is for weekday performances only and like always subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Once on Broadway at the Jacobs Theatre. You will love it.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from Cape Girardeau, Missouri. This past Saturday I received a call from a travel agent who's client was planning a trip to New York in December and wanted to see a couple of shows while they were here. Yes believe it or not but we are open on Saturdays. Sundays too. How many other ticket brokers do you know that do that? Not too many my friends. So anyway now that I knew when they were coming I needed to find out what they wanted to see. Their top two choices were The Phantom of the Opera and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Hard to believe that Phantom has been around for over twenty-five years. Now even though they were planning well in advance December is always a busy time of the year. Plus they wanted to go on a weekend. For Phantom I was able to get them excellent seats in the Center Front Mezzanine on the aisle. Plus I got them for a rate that was less than they were expecting. One show down. One to go. Now while I have never seen the Radio City Christmas Spectacular there is no denying it's popularity. I mean show doesn't last all those years for nothing right? Once again I was able to get them greats seats and because they ordered early I was able to get them at a lower than normal rate. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Customer Story

Todays' customer story comes all the way from the great state of West Virginia. Morgantown to be exact. Two days ago I received a call from a very nice lady who was planning a trip to New York for here and her son and wanted to see a couple of shows while they were here. I asked her what she wanted to see and her two choices were Wicked and the Blue Man Group. Two good choices but very different types of shows. Hard to believe that Blue Man Group has been playing here for over twenty-years and I still haven't seen it. Oh well. Maybe I'll get around to it one of these days.

Wicked of course I saw when it first opened back in 2003 and while I enjoyed it I never expected it to turn into the world wide phenomenon that it has become. Evidently the critics didn't either since they gave the show mixed reviews. Oh well. Not like it's going away anytime soon. So anyway now that I knew what they wanted to see I needed to find out when they would be here and where they wanted to sit. Since they were coming during the week they were hoping that they would get better seats for Wicked. They did.

In fact I was able to get them excellent seats in the Center Front Mezzanine and at a rate that was lower than they were expecting. One show down. One to go. For Blue Man Group I asked then if they would like to sit in the "Poncho" section of the Orchestra. For those of you that are not familiar with that those are the first five rows of the Orchestra and they give you Ponchos to wear during the show. Why you ask? Well let's just say that by sitting in those seats you can expect to be spat upon, watered upon, and generally abused throughout the show. Basically don't wear your Sunday best. So there you have it folks. Two great shows and great prices to boot. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Tickets To The Winslow Boy On Broadway

The Winslow Boy on Broadway? What the devil is that? Well as it turns out The Winslow Boys is an old Terrance Rattigan play that was first produced back in 1946. This new production which is being produced by the Roundabout Theatre Company is set to open this fall at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway and will star Tony winner Roger Rees and Tony nominee Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. Well at least it has a good cast. Now since I know nothing about the show I have decided to include a synopsis of the show for those like me who don't know what the show is about.

"A moving exploration of family devotion, The Winslow Boy," according to Roundabout, "beautifully illustrates the costs of unconditional love and the rewards that make the effort priceless." That might be the shortest synopsis that I have ever posted. Hopefully it will be enough to make you want to see it. As of now preview dates and an opening night  have not been announced but make sure to check back here in the coming weeks and we should know when and when tickets will go on sale. Get your tickets to see The Winslow Boy on Broadway. Until next time theatre fans.

Rocky The Musical Tickets On Broadway

Really? Really? Another musical based on a movie? Didn't I just write about that in my last blog? Having said that I did see a trailer for the show and believe it or not but I actually found it quite moving. Granted it was in German but still powerful none the less. Now the movie has always been a personal favorite of mine. Not to mention the five sequels that the original movie spawned. Rocky which of course is based on the 1976 film is scheduled to begin performances at the Winter Garden Theatre in February 2014. That's right theatre fans. Mamma Mia is finally closing. Not so fast. It is only closing for two weeks before moving six blocks way to the much smaller Broadhurst Theatre. Oh well. A boy can dream. The show will officially open in March 2014 with an on sale date to be announced in the coming weeks. Now while I am not a big fan of movies being turned into musicals I have a feeling that this one might just be a hit. We shall see. The show which first premiered in Germany in November 2012 is being directed by Tony nominee Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher) with a score by Tony winners Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime) and a book by fellow Tony winner Thomas Meehan (Annie, Hairspray). Quite the creative team don't you think? Get your tickets to see Rocky The Musical on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre. Adrian!!!!!!!! Sorry. I couldn't resist. Until next time theatre fans.

Tickets To The Bridges of Madison County On Broadway

Another movie turned musical on Broadway? Do we really need another one of those? O.K. I know that this is nothing new. After all we get about two or three of those every season. That will never change. Now while I have never seen the 1995 starring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep I know that it was very well received and did very well at the box office. Cut to nearly twenty years later and a musical version is set to debut on the Great White Way. The Bridges of Madison County, which is being written by Tony winner Jason Robert Brown (Parade, The Last Five Years) and Tony winner Marsha Norman ( The Color Purple, The Secret Garden) is set to begin previews at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on January 13, 2014 with opening to be announced at a later date. Headlining this new musical are four-time Tony nominee Kelli O'Hara and Steven Pasquale who recently performed together Off-Broadway in Far From Heaven. Which by the way was another movie turned musical. Are we seeing a pattern here? I think so. Tickets for the show are scheduled to go on sale in the coming weeks so make sure to check back here when they do. Customer Story

I know. I know. It's been almost ten days since my last customer story. What can I say? It's been a busy week and a half at Applause. Of course that means I should have tons of stories to share with you right? You better believe it. So why don't we get started. Today's customer story comes all the way from my home state. That's right. I am talking about the great state of Illinois. Yesterday afternoon I received a call from a customer who was in town this week with her family to see Jersey Boys and decided that she wanted to see a few more shows while they were here. Care to guess where she got her tickets? That's right theatre fans. Applause. Anyway her choices were Wicked, Newsies, and The Book of Mormon. Three great choices don't you think?

Now she knew that since she was booking them at the last minute it might be difficult to get the tickets. Not only that but get all the seats together. It was a family of five after all. I told her not to worry as last minute tickets are our speciality. When all was said and done I was able to get her excellent seats for all three shows. Now for The Book of Mormon they ended up having to split up with three tickets on one side and two on the other. Small price to pay to get good seats for one of the hottest shows on Broadway. So there you have it folks. Four great shows, plus I was able to get them for less than she was expecting to pay. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Georgia. August to be exact. This past Saturday I received a call from a travel agent who's client was planning a trip to New York in December and wanted to see two shows while they were here. Let me guess? You didn't know were open on Saturday's did you? Well we are. In fact we are open seven days a week. 365 days a year. How many other ticket companies do you know that do that? Not too many my friends. So anyway after finding out when they would be here I asked the agent what they wanted to see. Their choices were The Lion King and The Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Two shows believe it or not that I have never seen. Imagine that?

Plus they needed twelve tickets for each show. Now that's what I call a large family. Now since they were only going to be here for a couple of days they would have to see one show one day and the other the following day. Luckily for them Radio City has five performances during the day so they had a few options. In the end they ended up seeing The Lion King in the afternoon on Saturday and the Christmas show the day before in the afternoon as well. Plus because they ordered well in advance they were able to take advantage of the "Early Bird Special". So there you have it folks. Two great shows at two great prices to boot. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?
