If/Then Starring Tony Winner Idina Menzel To Begin Previews Next Week

Let me guess. You are just excited as me that Idina Menzel is returning to Broadway next week. You know it's true. The Tony wining star who has not been seen on the Great White Way since her star turn as Elphaba in Wicked over a decade ago is set to make her triumphant return to Broadway next week in the new musical If/Then. The show which is scheduled to begin previews at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on March 5 will officially open on March 30. Now for those of you who are not familiar with If/Then here is a brief synopsis about this new musical from the shows official website. Enjoy!

On the verge of turning 40, Elizabeth moves back to New York City, the ultimate city of possibility, intent on a fresh start - new home, new friends, and hopes for a resurgent career. But even in her carefully planned new life, the smallest decision or most random occurrence will impact her world in ways she never dreamt possible. Set against the ever-shifting landscape of modern day Manhattan, If/Then is a romantic and original new musical about how choice and chance collide and how we learn to love the fallout.

Sounds like it could turn out to be a very moving night in the theatre don't you think? Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway To Begin Previews On Broadway Next Month

That's right theatre fans. One of Broadway's most anticipated new shows is almost here. I am of course talking about Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway. The show which is based on the 1994 Academy Award winning movie of the same name is set to begin previews at the St. James Theatre on March 11 with opening night set for April 10. Not only that but your favorite theatre blogger is going to see it. Now being in this business we get invited to all the shows and for the most part I do see most of them. However this is the one that I am really looking forward too. For starters I love the movie. Not only that but I am a huge Woody Allen fan. I mean who isn't? Well maybe except for Mia Farrow. Ba-dum-bump. Recently there has been speculation that the show may not be as successful as they once thought do to the recent allegations. The truth is Woody has been scrutinized for the better part of two decades yet his movies continue to make money and win awards. How about we wait to see if the show is any good or not before we decide on how well it will do? See you at the theatre.

Disney's Aladdin To Begin Previews On Broadway Tonight

That's right Disney fans. Aladdin and his magic carpet are set to fly on Broadway beginning tonight. The show which is set to open on March 20 at the New Amsterdam Theater is based on the 1992 movie of the same name. Now for those of you who read my blogs know that I am not exactly the biggest Disney fan in the world. I've never seen the movie although I am familiar with a couple of the songs. "A Whole New World" of course being the most well known one of the bunch.

The movie which was only ninety minutes is now a two-act musical complete with new songs and three new characters that were cut from the film. Tony Award winning director and choreographer Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon) had this to say about the similarities as well as the differences between the movie and the new Broadway production.

"You kind of begin with the movie. That's kind of where you have to begin. We're taking a lot of stuff that was originally in the movie that was cut from it. There's like six songs that were originally in it, and there's three characters that were originally in the movie that were cut, so it's about bringing those guys back on stage." Now for those of you like me who have never seen the movie here is a brief synopsis of Aladdin from the show's official website.

Aladdin, adapted from the Disney film and centuries-old folktales including 'One Thousand and One Nights' is brought to fresh theatrical life in this exuberant new musical. Aladdin's journey will sweep audiences into an exotic world of daring adventure, classic comedy and timeless romance. This new production features a full score, including the five cherished songs from the Academy Award winning soundtrack and more written especially for the stage.

Now since Beauty and the Beast first premiered on Broadway in 1994 Disney has produced seven other shows on the Great White Way. Of those only two are were flops. Tarzan and The Little Mermaid. The show which first opened in Toronto last year did not get the greatest reviews. Of course neither did Wicked and we all know how that turned out now don't we?

Will Aladdin be another success for the all mighty mouse or will it fall flat on it's face? We will soon find out.Now for those of you looking to purchase tickets to see this show or any of the other Disney shows on Broadway you have come to the right place my friends. That's right. We sell them all. Well that and every other show and event in New York. Get your tickets to see Aladdin at the New Amsterdam Theatre on Broadway. Until next time theatre fans.

New Play Bronx Bombers To Open Tonight On Broadway

That's right baseball fans. Bronx Bombers is opening tonight on Broadway at the Circle in the Square Theatre. The show which first premiered Off-Broadway last year at Primary Stages began previews on January 10. Now while I may be a huge New York Mets I think the show has a good shot of sticking around if the reviews are good. A couple of years ago I had an opportunity to see the playwrights last show about Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. Now while Magic/Bird didn't exactly light up the box office I enjoyed it. That's right. I'm a basketball fan too. Hopefully this show will be a little more successful. We shall see. By the way for those of you looking to purchase tickets to Bronx Bombers you have come to the right place. In fact if you call right now we can get you great seats to the show at prices that can't be beat. Plus since the seating is in the round all the seats are good. Sounds like a win-win to me. Get your tickets to see Bronx Bombers on Broadway at the Circle in the Square Theatre. Until next time sports fans.

Winter Storm Not Effecting The Shows

Well here we go again. Another snow storm in February. This marks our third one in the last few weeks with another one expected to hit this weekend. I guess I really shouldn't complain. We get less than most states on the East Coast after all. Yet it seems like every time we get snow now we get a lot of calls asking if the shows are cancelled. Yes I know it may be a little nasty outside but in all the years I've been in this business I have yet to see them cancel a show because of a little snow. So despite what you might have heard Broadway is open with no cancellations planned at this time. If for some reason things change be sure to check our website for further updates.
