New Play The River Starring Hugh Jackman To Begin Performances Tonight On Broadway

That's right theatre fans. Up and coming actor and Broadway newbie Hugh Jackman  is set to begin performances tonight on Broadway in The River. O.K. I am joking of course. We all know Hugh Jackman is not only a Tony winning and Academy Award nominated actor but one of the biggest stars on the planet. The show which is scheduled to open on November 16 first premiered in the West End in 2012. Written by Jez Butterworth (Jerusalem) and directed by Ian Rickman, The River is running thru January 25 and clocks in at eighty-five minutes with no intermission. Now that's my kind of show. Why can't every show be that long? Now for those of you that are not familiar with the play here is a brief synopsis about The River from the show's official website. Enjoy! A remote cabin on the cliffs, a man and a woman, and a moonless night. Jez Butterworth's The River asks when we find each other, are we trying to recapture someone we once lost? The writer director team who brought you Jerusalem returns with a bewitching new story. Oh and in case you're wondering it is not a one man show. Mr. Jackman stars in the show with Laura Donnelly and Cush Combo. Now as you can expect tickets for the show are going fast. That doesn't mean you can't get them. You just might have to break the bank to do it. The good thing is that the theatre is so small that there isn't a bad seat in the house. Get your tickets to see The River on Broadway. Happy Halloween theatre fans!

Broadway Revival Of Side Show To Begin Performances Tonight On Broadway

That's right theatre fans. One of this seasons most highly anticipated shows is back on Broadway for the first time since it's 1997 Tony nominated production. Side Show which closed after ninety-one performances in January 1998 is based on the recent acclaimed Kennedy Center production and is being directed by Academy Award winner Bill Condon (Chicago, Dreamgirls) Previews are set to begin tonight at the St. James Theatre with opening night scheduled for November 17.

Now despite it's short run it was well received by the critics and was nominated for four 1998 Tony Awards including Best Musical of the Year. It lost that year to The Lion King which as we all know went on to become Broadway's highest grossing show of all time. Now I saw the original production and thought it was not only fascinating but quite entertaining. Let's hope this new production last's a lot longer than the previous one. Now for those of you that are not familiar with the show or the sordid tale of the Hilton sisters here is a brief synopsis about Side Show from the show's publicist. Enjoy!

Bill Condon’s new production, according to press notes, "reimagines the world of Side Show, set against the backdrop of 1920’s and 30’s show business that seamlessly blends the worlds of carnival, vaudeville, and Hollywood glamour. The musical is inspired by the "remarkable true story of the Hilton twins, Daisy and Violet, who were legends in their time and the highest paid performers on the vaudeville circuit. Side Show is their heartwarming search for first love and acceptance amidst the spectacle of fame and scrutiny under the spotlight."

Makes you want to run out right now an buy a ticket now doesn't it? Now as much I loved the last production never in a million years did I ever think that we would see it again on Broadway. Like I said hopefully this time around it will succeed. Fingers crossed. By the way for those of you that are looking to purchase tickets to see Side Show you have come to the right place. We sell it. In fact if you order now you can get tickets to see the show at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru December 21 it is for select seats and as always subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Side Show on Broadway at the St. James Theatre. Who knows? Maybe I'll see you there. Until next time theatre fans.

The Last Ship Reviews

That's right theatre fans. The Last Ship, the first new musical of the 2014-2015 season opened last night at the Neil Simon Theatre. Now I have not seen the show. To be honest it just doesn't look that interesting to me. Of course I said the same thing about Billy Elliot and I ended up loving that. Anyway enough about me. Let's see what the critics had to say about the show. Enjoy!

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Maryland. This past Sunday I received a call from a customer that was coming to New York at the end of the month and wanted to see a few shows while they were here. Yes that's right folks. We are open on Sundays. In fact we are open seven days a week. 365 days a year. How many other ticket companies do you know that do that? So anyway after finding out when she would be here I asked here what she wanted to see. Her top choice was Once. Great show I must say. Too bad it's closing. Oh well. They can't all last forever right?

Now because the show has been playing for a couple of years I knew I would have no problem getting them excellent seats. Plus because they had a New York Pass the prices were even less. What's that you say? A New York Pass? What in the devil is that? Now for those of you who aren't familiar with it the New York Pass it is an all inclusive pass that offers discounts on museums, sightseeing tours, restaurants and of course theatre tickets. Anyway when all was said and done I was able to get her great seats in the Center Front Mezzanine for less than she had seen elsewhere. So after securing her tickets for the first show I asked her what else she wanted to see. Her next choice was Pippin which won the Tony Award last year for Best Musical Revival and is one of Broadway's most exciting shows.

Once again I was able to get her great seats in the Center Front Mezzanine and for below cost. For her third and final choice I asked if she might be interested in a play. She said she would and wanted to know if I could suggest anything. Now since she was here for only a short while most of the newer plays were not starting until after she left. The three shows I suggested were The Curious Incident of the Dog In The Night Time, Disgraced, and You Can't Take It With You. In the end she decided to go with Disgraced which one the Pulitzer Prize last year for Drama. So there you have it folks. Three great shows with great seats and prices to boot. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Broadway Revival Of A Delicate Balance To Begin Previews Tonight On Broadway

That's right theatre fans. One of this season's most highly anticipated plays is back on Broadway. A Delicate Balance written by three time Tony and Pulitzer Award winning playwright Edward Albee is set to begin previews tonight at the John Golden Theatre with opening night scheduled for November 20. The play which was last seen on the Great White Way back in 1996 where it won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play is being directed by Tony winner Pam MacKinnon (Clybourne Park, Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf) and will star Tony winners Glenn Close, John Ligthow, Lindsay Duncan, and three-time Tony nominee Martha Plimpton. Rounding out the cast are Tony and Academy Award nominee Bob Balaban and Olivier Award winner and Tony nominee Claire Higgins. Now that's what I call an all-star cast. Tickets for the show are going fast so don't delay. Get your tickets to see A Delicate Balance on Broadway at the Golden Theatre thru February 22, 2015. Expect the show to be a big contender come award season. Until next time theatre fans.

It's Only A Play Reviews

Well the reviews for It's Only A Play are in and well....I think I'll just let them speak for itself. The truth is it really doesn't matter what the critic's have to say because the show is already a hit and will continue to be for the rest of it's run. Now as I mentioned in yesterday's blog tickets are available for every performance. Just be prepared to break out your wallet to get them. Now on to the reviews.

It's Only A Play To Open Tonight On Broadway

That's right theatre fans. One of this season's most highly anticipated new plays is set to open tonight on the Great White Way. Yes I know. Technically it is not a new play as it first premiered Off-Off Broadway in 1978. This production will however mark it's first time on Broadway. Plus in a way it is sort of new as playwright Terrance McNally has rewritten the play to bring it up to date.

Starring in this behind the scenes comedy are Tony winners Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Stockard Channing, as well as Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham, Emmy winner Megan Mullally, and Harry Potter star Rupert Grint. Rounding out the cast is newcomer Micah Stock. Now that's what I call an all-star cast. Now for those of you that are not familiar with the show here is a brief synopsis about It's Only A Play from the show's official website. Enjoy!

"It's opening night of Peter Austin's (Broderick) new play as he anxiously awaits to see if his show is a hit. With his career on the line, he shares his big First Night with his best friend, a television star (Lane), his fledgling producer (Mullally), his erratic leading lady (Channing), his wunderkind director, an infamous drama critic, and a wide-eyed coat check attendant on his first night in Manhattan. It’s alternately raucous, ridiculous and tender — reminding audiences why there’s no business like show business. Thank God!"

Now to no ones surprise the show is selling like crazy at the box office. That doesn't mean you can't get a ticket though. Just be prepared to break out the big bucks I'm afraid with tickets starting at over $300 or more for most dates. The good thing is that it is a very small theatre so all the seats are good. Get your tickets to see It's Only A Play at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre thru January 4. Be sure to check back here tomorrow morning to see what the critic's thought. Until next time theatre fans.

The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time Reviews

Well theatre fans the reviews are in and after looking them over it looks like The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time is a hit. Now to be honest I'm not really surprised. Even though I have yet to see this production it has been one of our biggest sellers. For London that is. Here? Not so much. That's not to say we haven't sold any tickets it's just that we tend to sell more tickets for musicals than straight plays. Who knows? Maybe with reviews like these we might just sell some more. We shall see. Now on to the reviews.
