Get Yourself Tickets To A Bronx Tale On Broadway

In 1993, I first saw the film version of A Bronx Tale, a movie about a young Italian boy's fascination and admiration for a local mobster in 1960's The Bronx, New York and his love for his father.  The youngsters name is Calogero (nicknamed "C") by Sonny, the neigborhood crime boss.  Sonny found his name too difficult to pronounce apparently. Calogero gets caught between his growing friendship with Sonny and his father Lorenzo and which path he will decide to follow in life.

Sonny was played by actor Chazz Palminteri in the film, who wrote what was originally a one-act play. Lorenzo is a local bus driver played by Robert DeNiro in the film.  Mr DeNiro is the co-director of the Broadway musical version of this show along with long-time Broadway veteran Jerry Zaks.  I had the opportunity to see this exciting new musical last week at the Longacre Theatre on Broadway.  The World Premiere of a Bronx Tale took place on February 14, 2016 at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse.

I find it so interesting that Mr. Palminteri originally wrote a simple one-act play, converted it to a film (which grossed $17 million domestically), then decided to create a full blown Broadway musical.  And quite a full blown musical it is my friends.  This Broadway musical version of A Bronx Take works in every way.

With a Book by Chazz Palminiteri, Music and Lyrics by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater and Choreography by Sergio Trujillo, A Bronx Tale entertains for every moment of the little more than two hours of the show's duration.  Kind of short by musical standards but just the right length of time for this show I think.

This Broadway musical version has very capable lead acting by Hudson Loverro and at certain performances, Athan Sporek, who play the role of Young Calogero.  The role of Calogero is played by Bobby Conte Thornton, making his Broadway debut.  In addition, Broadway actor  Nick Cordero (Waitress, Bullets Over Brodway) plays Sonny and Lorenzo is played by Richard H. Blake (Jersey Boys, Wicked, Legally Blonde).  Calogero's mom, Rosina, is played by Lucia Giannetta (Les Miserables, Leap of Faith).  Calogero's love interest, Jane, in this musical, is played by Ariana Debose (Hamilton, Pippin, Motown The Musical, Bring It On).

A Bronx Tale is what I would call a very well done paint by numbers musical.  It has very solid acting, a well written, simple New York story, fun musical numbers, some terrific Sergio Trujillo choreography along with some "doo wopp" music of the times.  Everything that makes this muscial work really well.  AM New York calls A Bronx Tale " a combination of Jersey Boys and West Side Story."  In fact, The Dodgers, one of this productions co-producers, is the producer of Jersey Boys, which will end a long Broadway run in a few weeks.

A Bronx Tale sold over $905,000.00 in tickets during the week of December 18, 2016.  Almost near capacity at Longacre's rather small sized theatre.

If you're interested in obtaining A Bronx Tale tickets, we'd love to hear from you.  A Bronx Tale has some discounted tickets we can help you purchase for weeknights in the early part of 2017.  If the show wins some Tony Awards in June 2017 it's likely to go up in price naturally.

I sincerely hope that you enjoyed this post today.  And I welcome the opportunity to help you with purchasing A Bronx Tale tickets or in planning a day or night out visiting one of our fantastic shows appearing on Broadway.

Cheers and best wishes to A Bronx Tale The Musical, on Broadway at New York City's Longacre Theatre.

Sam Shepard's Buried Child Now Playing In The West End

That's right theatre fans. Buried Child, the 1979 Pulitzer Prize winner for Best Drama, is headed to the London stage for the first time since it's premiere back in 1978. The show, which was written by Sam Shepard, is now playing at the Trafalgar Studios in London thru February 18, 2017. Not only that, but the show is starring husband and wife acting team Ed Harris and Amy Madigan.

So what is the show all about? Well according to the show's official website, Buried Child takes place in rural Illinois in 1979. As America is in the midst of a recession, as well as an ending presidential election, Dodge (Harris) and Halie (Madigan), are struggling to hang on to their land as their family unravels following an unexpected visit from their long-lost grandson Vince.

At first, no one recognizes him causing even further uncertainty as family secrets long hidden are soon revealed. Now that sounds like one gripping drama my friends. By the way for those of you who want tickets to see the show you are in luck. We sell them. In fact we sell every play and musical in London. New York City Sets New Record With 60.3 Million Visitors In 2016

NYC & Company, the marketing agency for the city, just announced that by the end of 2016, New York City will surpass its previous record of 60 million visitors by approximately 300,000 people.  Travel and tourism to the city has been on the rise for 7 years now.  This sector now employs close to 400,000 jobs, many of which are in "theatre related" positions.  Each year approximately $12.6 billion is contributed to the city's economy from the theatre industry outside of ticket sales as well as supporting local jobs for 90,000 people.

Broadway and its fantastic array of exciting shows and attractions are considered to be one of New York's largest destinations for visitors to our city.  For the most recent 2015-2016 Broadway season which ended in early June of 2016, 13.3 million tickets to Broadway shows were purchased, nearly 8 million from tourists. That's a whopping 63% purchased by these visitors.  Nearly 18% of admission tickets were purchased by people from outside the United States and 45% from people living in the United States but outside of the New York City area.  Astonishing numbers when you think about how important tourism is to Broadway Theatre.

Recently Charlotte St. Martin, the President of The Broadway League said "We applaud the city's announcement and join with the mayor in celebrating the hard work of NYC & Company to deliver New York City's banner year when we had over 60 million visitors last year".

In addition, NYC & Company will bring back its highly successful consumer programs, which in my opinion, are great for generating business in New York's tradionally off peak season,  The programs run from mid January through mid March of 2017 and include NYC Broadway Week, NYC Off Broadway Week, NYC Restaurant Week and for the first-time, NYC Attractions Week.  This new program will offer visitors and locals 2-for-1 admission tickets on tours, cultural attractions and some performing arts at nearly 70 participating organizations like Madame Tussauds New York, Big Bus Sightseeing, One World Observatory, several museums and many other terrific participating attractions.

My company Applause-Tickets is involved in bringing tourists from out of town and throughout the world to Broadway Theater as well.  Applause-Tickets is a licensed ticket agency for Broadway, Sports and Concerts. We've been assisting visitors to New York City in helping people to obtain reasonably priced Broadway Show tickets as well as admission to the hundreds of Concert, Sporting Event and Family Attractions like Radio City Music Hall and Off Broadway Theatre as well.  Applause-Tickets will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary soon.  The company's goal has always been to provide the most friendly and personal service to visitors and locals alike as well as the corporate world that entertains on a regular basis.

Applause-Tickets can be reached 24/7 by calling 212-307-7050 or 800-451-9930.  At Applause, callers will not experience "waiting on hold or voicemail".  You'll get experienced, friendly local ticket professionals that know the best way to enjoy Broadway Shows, as well as all other live shows and also get tips on some great dining establishments throughout the city.  We'd love to "play a role" in helping Broadway bound travelers, whenever your plans include live entertainment in our city.

I sincerely hope that you found my post helpful today.  Please call me personally or any member of the Applause-Tickets staff when you have questions about Broadway, other live entertainment events, dining, sightseeing or any question you may have about visiting New York City.

Wishing you a joyous holiday season and a very happy and healthy new year.

Hedda Gabler Tickets In London

Image result for ruth wilson photosFifteen years ago I had the chance to see the  last Broadway revival of Henrick Ibsen's Hedda Gabler. That spectacular production starred Tony nominee and Emmy winner Kate Burton (Grey's Anatomy, Scandal).

Now here we are all these years later, and the show is headed to the West End in a brand new production directed by recent Tony winner Ivo van Hove (A View from the Bridge, The Crucible). The show, which is being adapted by Patrick Marber (Closer), stars Tony and Golden Globe nominee Ruth Wilson (The affair, Constellations) in the title role.

So what is Hedda Gabler all about? Here is a brief synopsis from the show's website to give you a little more info about the show. "Just married. Bored already Hedda longs to be free."  Like I said. It was brief. Besides I don't want to spoil it for you. Tickets for the show, which is scheduled to run thru March 21 at the Lyttleton Theatre, are now available for all performances. Oh and did I mention that we are selling them too? Well we are. In fact we sell every play and musical in London. Who knew? Get your tickets to see Hedda Gabler in London at the Lyttleton Theatre. New Musical Based On Bat Out Of Hell To Open In The West End Next Year

Image resultWhat's that you say? A new musical based on one of the best selling album's of all time? It's true theatre fans. Or should I say rock fans? Bat Out Of Hell, which was first released in October 1977, is set to begin previews at the London Coliseum on June 5, 2017, and play thru July 22.

Now I don't know about you, but that is one short run. Here's hoping it extends if the reviews are good. Growing up as a child Bat Out Of Hell was one of my favorite albums of all time. In fact it still is. Featuring seventeen of Meat Loaf's greatest hits including I'd Do Anything for Love, Paradise by the Dashboard Light, You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth ((Hot Summer Night), Dead Ringer For Love, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad, and of course the title song Bat Out of Hell.

So what exactly is the show all about? Well I'll tell you. Set in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, Bat Out of Hell tells the story of Srat, and his gang The Lost, who are under the thumb of it's corrupt ruler Falco. Strat soon meets Falco's daughter Raven, who has been hidden away for years in the palace towers.

Against all odds, the two young lover's find themselves struggling for survival in a world full of chaos and destruction, all the while trying to follow their dreams. Sounds pretty awesome don't you think? Tickets for the show are now on sale. Not only that, but we are selling them. Get your tickets to see Bat Out Of Hell In London at the London Coliseum. Get Tickets To See Olivier Award Winner Imelda Staunton In Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf

Image result for imelda stauntonExciting news theatre fans. One of London theatre's most acclaimed actresses is set to star in one of the theatre's greatest plays. Imelda Staunton, who recently won the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her spectacular performance as Rose in Gypsy, will return to the London stage in a new production of Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf.

Previews for the show are set to begin at the Harold Pinter Theatre on February 22, 2017, where it will play thru May 27. Starring opposite Ms. Staunton in the role of her husband George is fellow Olivier award-winner Conleth Hill ((Game Of Thrones, Stones In His Pockets, The Producers).

Rounding out the cast are Olivier award-winner Luke Treadaway (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Fortitude, The Hollow Crown) and Imogen Poots, in her West End debut (A Long Way Down, Jane Eyre and Me And Orson Wells). Pretty impressive cast don't you think?

Now for those of you that are not familiar with the show, here is a brief synopsis to tell you a little more. Set over the course of one evening, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, tells the story of long suffering married couple George and Martha, who spend the evening entertaining George's fellow colleague Nick and his wife Honey at their home.

As day turns into night, alcohol, not too mention some hidden secrets soon turn both couples world's upside down. Now that sounds like my type of show. Get Tickets To See Amadeus In London

Image result for amadeus play logoI just have one question. When is Broadway going to get a revival of Amadeus? Yes I know. It's only been seventeen years since the last production. But aren't we due for one though? Oh well. Maybe this new production in London will head here next year. Fingers crossed. Amadeus, which first premiered in London at the Royal National Theatre in 1979, is set to run thru March 18, 2017 at the Olivier Theatre.

The show, which was actually inspired by the short 1830 play by Alexander Pushkin, takes place in Vienna during the latter half of the 18th Century, and tells the story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his musical rival Antonio Salieri. As Salieri's jealousy grows, he finds himself at war not only with Mozart but with God as well. Tickets for the show are now available for all performances. The Glass Menagerie To Begin Performances In London Next Year

The Glass Menagerie, by Tennessee Williams, is set to begin previews at the Duke of York Theatre in London on January 26, 2017, where it will play thru April 29.

This new production, is based on the 2013 Broadway revival directed by Tony winner John Tiffany. Recreating her Tony nominated performance as Amanda Wingfield is two-time Tony winner Cherry Jones. Now for those of you that are not familiar with the show, here is a brief synopsis to give you a little more info.

Set in 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri, the play takes place in the home of southern matriarch Laura Wingfield, who lives there with her son Tom and her daughter Laura, who was stricken with a bout of polio as a young child.

Based on Williams himself, as well as his Mother, The Glass Menagerie is told thru the eyes of Tom, who becomes frustrated by his mother's obsession with finding a lover for young Laura.

Acclaimed Play Marvin's Room To Make It's Broadway Debut Next Summer

Image result for Marvin's Room (play) picFinally one of my favorite play's is making it's Broadway debut. Now unfortunately I never got around to seeing the show during it's first New York production. At the time, I was in my first year at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, and to be honest I really didn't have the time to see much of anything. Unless it was free of course. Plus I was more into musicals back then anyway.

Thankfully a few years later a friend turned me on to the play. I loved it. Then shortly after that, they adapted the play into a critically acclaimed film starring Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro, and Diane Keaton who was nominated for an Oscar for her performance. Now here we are over twenty five years since the shows premier, and it is coming to the Great White Way.

So what is the show all about? Well I'll tell you. The show, which is based on playwright Scott McPherson's real experiences growing up in Florida as a child, tells the story of estranged sisters Bessie and Lee, who although related by blood, act more like distance acquaintance's. Lee, a single mother with a troubled teenage son returns home when Bessie, who has been caring for their elderly father, is diagnosed with leukemia. Previews for the show are set to begin at the American Airlines Theatre on June 8, 2017, with opening night scheduled for June 29. Tickets for the show are now on sale. Kevin Kline To Return To Broadway In Noel Cowards Present Laughter

KevinKlineSept10TIFF.jpgI can't tell you how excited I am about seeing this show. Now I am a huge Kevin Kline fan. I have been since his Academy Award winning performance in A Fish Called Wanda. Plus I am a huge fan of the show. In fact, I have seen both recent productions starring Tony winner Frank Langella and Tony nominee Victor Garber.

Like I said. I'm a fan. The show, which is being directed by Tony nominee Moritz von Stuelpnagel (Hand To God), is set to begin previews at the St. James Theatre on March 10, 2017, with opening night scheduled for April 5. Now as excited I am about seeing this new production, I am a little worried about the show being in such a large theatre.

Oh well. I guess if there's anyone that can fill a large house like the St. James, it's Kevin Kline. So what exactly is the show all about? Well I'll tell you. Present Laughter, follows Garry Essendine, a very talented, yet conceited actor who's world is turned upside down with the arrival of a young fan. Unfortunately this causes more interruptions from a parade of people including his ex-wife, his manager and a very eager playwright. Sounds like a perfect night in the theatre right?

Now I know what you're thinking. How do I get tickets? Well I suppose you could wait until you get here. Or you could give one of the friendly ticket experts at Applause a call and let us get the tickets for you. It's a simple as that. Get your tickets to see Present Laughter on Broadway at the St. James Theatre. Who knows? You might just see me there. Until next time theatre fans.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel To Play London Next Spring

Image result for lincoln center carousel logoThat's right theatre fans. One of the theatre's most beloved shows of all time is heading across the pond. Carousel, which believe it or not premiered on Broadway over seventy years ago is set to return to London for the first time since it's award winning production in 1992.

Previews for the show are set to begin at the Coliseum on April 7, 2017, and run thru May 13. Now I have been a big fan of Rodgers and Hammerstein for as long as I can remember. In fact carousel is my favorite of all of their musicals. This new production, which is being directed by Lonny Price (Sunset Boulevard), will star Katherine Jenkins and Alfie Boe as tragic lovers Julie Jordan Billy Bigelow.

Featuring such classics like, "You'll Never Walk Alone", "If I Loved You", "Mister Snow" and "June is Bustin Out All Over", Carousel is one show you do not want to miss. Get your tickets to see Carousel in London at the Coliseum. Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway Revival Of The Little Foxes Starring Laura Linney And Cynthia Nixon To Open On Broadway Next Spring

What's that? Two of Broadway's finest actresses in the same play on Broadway? Count me in theatre fans. Oh and did I mention that both of these talented ladies will be alternating the two lead roles of Regina and Birdie. It just keeps getting better and better.

The Little Foxes, which was written by legendary playwright and screenwriter Lillian Hellman, is set to begin previews at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on March 29, 2017, with opening night scheduled for April 19.

The Little Foxes, which takes place in Alabama at the turn of the 20th Century, follows socialite Regina Giddens and her fellow family members, including sister-in-law Birdie, who strive for a life outside of their means.

As tensions between the two ladies begin to rise, the rest of the family resorts to theft, as well as blackmail causing this one close family to erupt. Now that sounds like my kind of show. Tickets for The Little Foxes are now on sale. Oh and did I mention that we are selling them? Well that and every other play and musical on Broadway. Get your tickets to see The Little Foxes on Broadway. I can't wait. Until next time theatre fans.

Paula Vogel To Make Broadway Debut With New Play Indecent

features-large_INDECENT-keyartThat's right theatre fans. One of the theatre's most critically acclaimed playwright's is finally making her Broadway debut after a four decade career. Paul Vogel, who won the Pulitzer Prize in 1998 for How I Learned To Drive, is set to launch her first play on the Great White Way this Spring.

Indecent, which first premiered Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre, will begin previews at the Cort Theatre on April 4, 2017, with opening night scheduled for April 18. So what exactly is the show about? Well according to the shows website, Indecent is inspired by the play God of Vengeance by Sholem Asch’s.

The show, which premiered on Broadway in 1923, was controversial at the time as it dealt with Jewish culture, and featured the first same sex kiss between two young girls. The playwright, as well as the performers, jeopardized their careers, as well as their lives in order to do this dramatic but risky play. Now that sounds like one intense show my friends. Tickets for Indecent are now on sale. Not only that, but we are selling them. Get your tickets to see Indecent on Broadway at the Cort Theatre. Expect the show to be a big contender at next year's Tony Awards. Until next time theatre fans.

Dinner And A Show In New York City

My company, Applause-Tickets has been in the Broadway ticket business for nearly 30 years now.  We sell tickets for every show on and off Broadway.

One of the most frequent questions Applause-Tickets staff seem to get on a daily basis is "can you suggest some nice places to dine before the Broadway show we're going to see"?

After living in the heart of New York City for nearly 9 years now and attending shows for nearly 40 years, I definitely have my favorites.  My colleague Todd Freeman loves the New York City restaurant dining scene as well.  Together we have made a very thorough listing of  many restaurant possibilities for visitors to New York City to consider trying, either before or after the theater.

So whether you want to experience neighborhood Italian, Greek, Spanish, Chinese, German or Middle Eastern restaurant cuisine one night or dine at one of New York's finest steak or seafood restaurants, Todd and I have tried to cover the gamut on any of New York's gastronomic possibilities.

We'd love to share the restaurant list we've created for you, your friends, family and colleagues.  You may want to have a look at this for yourself or share with people that you know are New York City bound.  And we hope you'll consider a call to Todd and I if you'd like to know more about New York City restaurants or any of the terrific Broadway Shows currently playing on The Great White Way.

Here's a link to the restaurant list.

I hope you'll consider a call to Applause-Tickets should your plans include a visit to New York City, the Broadway Theater and the fantastic New York restaurant scene.  Ask for me personally at 212-307-7050 or 800-451-9930 or email me at rich@applause-tickets.com.

Lynn Nottage’s Sweat Will Transfer to Broadway
Exciting news theatre fans. One of Off-Broadway's most critically acclaimed shows is heading to the Great White Way. Written by Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage (Ruined), and directed by Kate Whoriskey, Sweat, which first premiered at the Arena Stage in Washington D,C., is currently playing a sold our run at the Public Theatre thru December 18.

Previews for the Broadway production are set to begin at Studio 54 on March 4, 2017, with opening night scheduled for March 26. So what exactly is the show about? Well according to the shows website, Sweat takes place in a factory in rural Pennsylvania factory. When layoffs at the factory begin, a group of close friends soon turn against each other as the tension rises and picket lines start to form. Sounds like a great night in the theatre to me. Tickets for the show are not yet on sale. However you can bet that when they do, we will be selling them. Get your tickets to see Sweat on Broadway at Studio 54. Until next time theatre fans.

Seven New Musicals To Open In 2017

What's that you say? Isn't there still twenty-five more days left in 2016? Yes there is. However that doesn't mean we can't look forward to the coming year right? Now as the title of my blog says, there are seven new musicals set to open next year. Seven! That has to be a record right? Actually it's not as uncommon as you might think. Spring has always been the time when most new musicals, as well as new plays, and revivals.

Why you ask? It's quite simple actually. The closer a show opens to the Tony Award nominations, the fresher the show is in the minds of the people nominating those shows. Makes sense to me. But enough about the nominations. After all that is still over four months away. Plus you came here to find out what shows are still set to open this season right? So let's get to it. Here is a list of those shows.

Amélie
Anastasia
Bandstand
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Come From Away
Groundhog Day
War Paint

Quite the lineup don't you think? Now of those seven shows, three of those are based on movies. Now I know what you're thinking. Wasn't Charlie and the Chocolate Factory a movie as well? It was. However this version from what I have heard, is based more on the Roald Dahl book. Which by the way was one of my favorite books as a child. Here's hoping the show is just as good.

Now while I have never seen the movie Groundhog Day I have been told that it is one of the funniest movies ever made. Not surprising since it stars Bill Murray and is was written and directed by the later Harold Ramis. Who knows? Maybe I'll get around to seeing it before it opens next Spring. I might even check out Amélie and Anastasia too. Stranger things have happened.

Now for those of you who want more information about each of these shows, simply click on the shows link, and you can read a synopsis about the show, as well as how you can purchase tickets to see it. Oh wait. You didn't know we sold tickets for all of these shows? Well we do. In fact we sell tickets to every play and musical both On and Off-Broadway. Here's to an exciting Broadway season everyone. Until next time theatre fans.
