This week's customer story comes all the way from Madison, Ohio. This past Tuesday I received a call from a very nice lady who was visiting a friend of hers in Pennsylvania and was coming down for the day and wanted to see a show while they were here. Being a regular theatre goer for years she had used a different company in the past until it went out of business. After a little research she found our number and figured she would give us a try. I tole her I'm glad she found us and that I would do my best to assist her in any way I could. I asked her what she wanted to see and her first and only choice was Shatner's World: We Just Live In It. Which in case you didn't know stars Emmy Award winner and beloved international star William Shatner. So anyway know that I knew what she wanted to see I told her that not only should I be able to get her very good seats but also less than our normal retail rate. Well she loved that. Plus she said that she would definitely use us again in the future. Another satisfied customer.

Now I'm sure by now that after twenty-four years on Broadway most people have already seen the show. I myself have seen the show at least a half a dozen times since I moved here twenty years ago and I have to say every time I see it is just as good if not better than the time before. How many shows do you know that can say that? Not too many. So whether it's your first time or your twentieth there is no better choice than The Phantom of the Opera. Get your tickets now.

Customer Story
This week's customer story comes all the way from Stillwell, Kansas. This past Friday I received a call from a gentleman who was planning a trip New York next month and wanted to see a show while he was here. I take that back. He didn't call me. I called him. Now before you think that I just pulled his phone number out of thin air I didn't. He actually came upon our company thur our live chat service called Boldchat. For those of you that are not familiar with the service it is a great way to interact with with us here at Applause. Ask questions or order tickets all with the click of a button. It's that easy. Anyway after finding out when he would be here I asked him what he wanted to see. His pick? Why none other than Broadway's most popular show Wicked. Now even though it remains the top grossing show week after week that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. Not only was I able to get him excellent seats for a Saturday night but at a rate that was lower than he had seen anywhere else. Plus I was able to find an inexpensive restaurant for him and his wife to check out after the show. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Disney's Return To The Great White Way
April 18, 1994. Anyone remember what happened on that date? Give up? That my friends was the day that Disney invaded the Great White Way and change the Broadway landscape forever. Since their first show Beauty and the Beast they have produced five more shows. Some were hits like Aida, Mary Poppins, and The Lion King both of which are both still playing to packed houses today.
Others like Tarzan and The Little Mermaid unfortunately failed to ignite the box office and closed without much fanfare. Now as Winter turns to Spring Disney is set to return to Broadway once again. Newsies which is based on the 1992 film is set to begin previews at the Nederlander Theatre on March 15 with opening night scheduled for March 29.
As of now it is a limited engagement thru June 10 however if reviews are good I expect it to extend. Now those of you who read my blogs know I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world. However I expect this show to do very well and be a big contender at this years Tony Awards. We shall see. Get your tickets to see Newsies on Broadway. Who knows? Disney just might have another hit on their hands Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway and Valentine's Day: The Perfect Combination
Need something to do on Valentine's Day? Why not see a show? I mean let's face it besides being romantic it's the perfect way to kill a couple of hours. Am I right fellas? Just kidding ladies. Now believe it or not but there are plenty of shows that would be perfect for you and that special someone in your life for you to see this Valentine's Day. Let's start with Broadway's longest running show The Phantom of the Opera. Is there any show out there more romantic than that one? What about Mamma Mia.?That show practically screams true love. Now my personal choice would be Rock of Ages. What can I say? I guess I'm just a sucker for an 80's rock ballad.Well as you can see there are plenty of great shows to see on Broadway. Maybe one of these will make this Valentine's Day one that you will remember for years to come.Oh and in case you need help on finding the perfect place to take that eat on your big night out we can help with that too. After all we are just a phone call away.

Customer Story
This week's customer story comes all the way from from Jenkinstown, Pennsylvania. This past Friday I received a call from a gentleman who was coming into New York for the weekend and wanted to see a show while he was here. I asked him what he wanted to see and his top choice was the new Broadway play Stick Fly. For those of you who haven't seen it yet I highly encourage that you do. It is one of the most well written, well acted plays to hit Broadway since August: Osage County.
Which by the way won the Tony Award for Best Play as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Could lighting strike twice? We shall see. Anyway back to my story. I asked him when he wanted to go and where he would like to sit. He said that since he would be in town for a few days that the date didn't matter so much as the seat since he needed an aisle. I told him that I should be able to get him what he wanted plus for less then our normal retail rate.
While he appreciated that he said that price wasn't a factor so much as the seat. I told him that I would do my best and assured him that I would get him the seat that he wanted. Long story short I was not only able to get him seats ten rows from the stage on the aisle but also for less. Well he loved that. He thanked me for all my help and said that he would definitely use us again during his next trip. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Ways To Save On New York Theatre Tickets
Thanks to our friends over at the McDonald's Cooperation the words small, medium, and large have been a part of our nations vocabulary for over three decades. Here at Applause Theatre Service we believe in the same formula. Well almost. The good thing with us is at our prices you won't have to worry about counting calories. Having been in the ticket industry for over a decade now I will tell you that one of the biggest complaints we get is the price of tickets.
Let's face it folks. Going to the theatre is not cheap anymore. I remember when I first moved here back in 1992 the cost of a Rear Mezzanine seat at the Gershwin Theatre was $7.50. In 2012 that same seat for Wicked now costs anywhere from $56.25 to $76.25. My how times have changed. The other day I pulled out a scrapbook that I have kept over the years and found a ticket stub from the first time I saw Rent back in April 1996. The cost of an Orchestra seat back then? $75.00. Orchestra seats for Broadway's hottest show The Book of Mormon? Slightly under $400 if you are lucky.
The truth is most people can't afford prices like that. I know I can't. Yes I know it's a popular show. So is Wicked and The Lion King. Doesn't mean they are the only game in town. As we speak there are twenty shows playing on Broadway with seventeen more scheduled to open in the next few months. Not only that but most of those shows are available at prices that can't be beat. Who says there aren't any bargains out there? There are. You just have to know where to look. Contrary to what you may have heard it is possible to enjoy a night out at the theatre without having to take out a mortgage on your house to do it. That's the truth. Until next time theatre fans.

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker
February 4, 1992. Any idea what happened on that date? Well and less you are a member of my family or a close friend you wouldn't have any clue of the significance of that date. On that day twenty years ago I moved to the big city to begin a new chapter in my life. New York City in case you were wondering. Like so many before me I moved to here to pursue my dream of performing on Broadway. Prior to moving here I was accepted into the American Musical and Dramatic Academy where I would begin my journey towards fame and fortune. Little did I know that that journey would take me on a rollercoaster ride that would change my life forever and consequently make me into the person that I am today.
Since I could remember the only thing that I wanted to do with my life was live in New York and be on Broadway. To be honest I couldn't imagine doing anything else with my life and I wasn't about let anything or anyone convince me otherwise. Thankfully I have always had the love and support of my friends and do to this day. In fact I can honestly say that I would not be here today writing a blog about my story without them. That's the truth.
After an intense two year program I graduated and began the next step, which is getting out there and auditioning for anything and everything. Now of course I was smart enough to know that nobody was going to offer me the lead role in the next Andrew Lloyd Webber musical or hire me to be the latest beefcake on Gossip Girl or Law and Order. That’s not me and quite frankly it probably never will be. I did however have one problem. My voice. It didn’t fit my look. There I was singing Italian Arias, and “Who Ame I" from Les Miz.The problem was I was eighteen and looked it. What should I do?
Well like most actors I decided to do something else. Before I had moved here I was given the opportunity to direct a show at my local community theatre. As it turns out I liked it. A lot in fact. Plus this way I could still stay involved in the theatre until my look caught up with my voice. My friends who had come to know me strictly as a performer used to ask me if I missed acting. I would tell them, “At first I did. But if you think about it, it is my vision up there. So in a way I feel like I am up there on stage too.”
So here I am twenty years later. Still directing and producing my shows. Six year's I had the chance to produce my own work, Avarice. Unlike my other shows I have hired someone else to do the directing. I am however still wearing many hats. I am the book writer, lyricist, and composer. Plus the most exciting thing is I am getting the chance to return to the stage as a performer. So how did that happen you may ask? Did my looks finally catch up with my voice as I had always hoped and prayed that it would? Well not exactly. You see that reason that I am making a return to the stage is because I am playing myself. And I thought who could play me better than me right? I guess we will soon find out.
Throughout this incredible and at times scary journey there has always been one constant. And that is my day job. Without that none of this would have been possible. For the past eight years I have been lucky to have had the chance to work for Applause. Not only has it allowed me to pursue my dream at night but it gives me the chance to talk about the thing I love most, theatre. In my past jobs I had worked in a box office where I was pretty much limited to selling one show at a time. That is not the case with Applause.
Everyday I get the chance to talk about Broadway, Off-Broadway, Opera, Ballet and shows nation wide and abroad. Where else can you do that? I have been working in this line of work for almost fifteen years now and nothing gives me more pleasure than sharing my love of theatre and entertainment to new and returning clients every day. When people ask me what I do I don’t just say, “I’m a ticket broker” or “I sell tickets.” I really feel like we provide a great service. And I’m not afraid to say that we do it better than anybody else. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Until next time.
