Little Shop Of Horrors Reviews

little shop of horrors jonathan groffThat's right theatre fans. It's that time again. Time to celebrate another show opening in NYC. Only this time, it's not a Broadway show. Although with the folks involved, it sure feels like one. Last night, Little Shop of Horrors opened Off-Broadway at the Westside Arts Theatre.

The theatre, which only holds two hundred and seventy seats, is only blocks away from the Broadway district, where the show made it's Broadway debut in 2003 at the August Wilson Theatre. That production starred Hunter Foster and Kerry Butler.

Directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening, Hedwig and the Angry Inch), and featuring music by Tony and Academy Award winner, and book and lyrics by Academy Award winner Howard Ashman, Little Shop of Horrors stars Tony Award nominee's Jonathan Groff and Tammy Blanchard as co-workers Seymour and Audrey, and two-time Tony Award winner Christian Borle as Orin. Starring along side the trio are Tom Alan Robbins, Kingsley Leggs, Ari Groover, Salome Smith, Joy Woods, Stephen Berger, Chris Dwan, Kris Roberts, Chelsea Turbin, Eric Wright, and Teddy Youdain. So what did the critic's have to say? Let's find out.

Now that is what I call some great reviews. Tickets for the limited production have been flying out the door ever since they went on sale. Now that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. It just means you may have to spend a little more to get them. Also be advised, tickets are only on sale thru January 19,2020. Here's hoping the show extends. Fingers crossed. Get your tickets to see Little Shop of Horrors Off-Broadway at the Westside Arts Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Linda Vista Reviews

What's that? Two critically acclaimed plays opening in the same week. What is this? April. Just kidding. Linda Vista, the new play by Tony Award winning actor and playwright Tracy Letts, officially opened last night at the Hayes Theatre. The show, which is scheduled to run thru November 19, tells the story of fifty year old Wheeler. His marriage is over, his job is mundane, and the best years of his life appear to be behind him.

Linda Vista
A move from the cot in his ex-wife’s garage to his own apartment opens up new possibilities for love and sex—complicated, painful and hilarious. Full of opinions, yet short on self-examination, Wheeler must reconcile the man he has become with the man he wants to be. Now that sounds like my kind of show theatre fans. So what did the critic's have to say? Let's find out.

Broadway Bound Michael Jackson Musical Find's It's Home

MJ the MusicalLet me just start off by saying that I am a fan of Michael Jackson's music. I always have been, and I always will be. It's what he did or allegedly did is what I have a problem with. Now the truth is, we may never know exactly what happened. But that's a story for another day. After all, by job is to write about the theatre. So why don't I get right to it. MJ The Musical, formerly known under it's previous title, Don't Stop To You Get Enough, is set to begin previews at the Neil Simon Theatre on July 6,2020, with opening night scheduled for August 13.

The show, which will feature a book by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage (Sweat, Ruined), and direction and choreography by Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon (An American In Paris), was scheduled to premier in Chicago this fall. However it was cancelled due to the recent allegations against the late superstar. Interesting enough, the last show to play at the theatre, was also about an iconic pop star. The Cher Show. Which by the way, lasted less than a year, and failed to make back it's investment. Let's see if this new show fare's any better. We shall see. An on sale date for the show has yet to be announced. Be sure to check this website for further updates. Get your tickets to see MJ The Musical at the Neil Simon Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

Moulin Rouge The MusicalToday's customer story comes all the way from the "Land of 1,000 Lakes". That's right. I am talking about the great state of Minnesota. Eden Prairie to be exact. A few days ago, I got a call from a customer who came to us via her travel agent, who was planning a trip to New York later this month, and wanted to see a show or two while she was here.

Correction. She wanted to see four shows while she was here. Anyway, after finding out when she would be here, I asked her what she wanted to see. Her first choice was of Broadway's longest running shows. That's right. I am talking about Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, which will play it's final performance on October 27.

Thankfully she was getting here before it closed. Now as far as the remaining shows, she picked three of the most popular shows on Broadway. Care to guess which ones? Show number one is the highest grossing play in Broadway history. The second is last season's biggest Tony Award winner. And show number three is one of this season's biggest hit's.

Give up? Well, if you guessed To Kill A Mockingbird, Hadestown, and Moulin Rouge, then you would be right. Now she knew that due to the popularity of each show, they would be expensive. She was right. Not as expensive as Hamilton mind you, but still more expensive than most shows. In the end, I was able to find her excellent seats, and at prices that were actually lower than she was expecting. So there you have it folks, four amazing shows, with great seats and prices to boot. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Riverdance To Return To New York In 2020

Image result for riverdance 25th year anniversary logoThat's right dance fans. Riverdance is headed back to the Big Apple. In fact, this will make the first time the show has played here since it's critically acclaimed production ten years ago.

The show, which will play at the historic Radio City Music Hall from March 15-20, 2020, will also launch a North American tour in January 2020 in honor of it's 25th Anniversary.

Originally created as a seven minute dance piece in 1994 for the Eurovision Song Contest, it was eventually developed into a full length stage show by Moya Doherty, composer Bill Whelan and director John McColgan.

Tickets for the National tour, which is set to launch in Portland Maine on January 14, 2020 are now on sale, with tickets for the Radio City Music Hall engagement are scheduled to go on sale this Friday October 11. Oh and did I mention that we are selling tickets for both? Well we are. Get your tickets to see Riverdance at Radio City Music Hall, or at a city near you. Until next time dance fans.

Final Weeks To Catch Jeff Daniels In To Kill A Mockingbird On Broadway

To Kill A MockingbirdThat's right theatre fans. You only have a few weeks left to see Emmy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Jeff Daniels in his critically acclaimed performance as Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird. Based on the novel by Harper Lee, and adapted by Academy and Emmy Award winner Aaron Sorkin, To Kill A Mockingbird opened on December 13, 2018 at the Shubert Theatre, where it continues to play to packed houses eight times a week. Now while I have not seen the show, I have heard nothing but great things about it from my friends, as well as many of our customers.

No surprise as it is the highest grossing non-musical in Broadway history. Now as I mentioned at the beginning of the blog, the play's leading man will be departing very soon. November 3rd to be exact. Thankfully his replacement is none other than Golden Globe Award winner and Academy Award nominee Ed Harris. Sounds like the role's in good hands. By the way, tickets for the show are now on sale thru September 6, 2020. Not only that, but we are selling it. Get your tickets to see To Kill A Mockingbird on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre. Mary Poppins To Return To The West End Later This Month

Image result for mary poppins london logoOne of my favorite movies growing up was Mary Poppins. In fact, I think I must have seen it about forty or fifty times. What can I say? I'm a fan. Funny enough, but I never got around to seeing the show when it was in New York. The truth is, I guess I was worried that the show couldn't possibly live up to the magic of the film.

Cut to a few years after it opened on Broadway, and I saw a regional production of the show while visiting my family in Illinois. Well as it turns out, I didn't need to worry at all. It was fantastic. Was it better than the film? No. But comparing the two would be like comparing apples to oranges. At the end of the day, I loved them both. This new production, which is set to begin previews at it's original home the Prince Edward Theatre on October 23, will officially open on November 13.

Starring in the title role is Zizi Strallen, who performed the role during the 2015-16 Tour, as well as Olivier Award nominee Charlie Stemp (Half A Sixpence) as Bert, and world renowned recording star Petula Clark as the Bird Woman. By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see Mary Poppins, you have come to the right place. We sell it. In fact, we sell tickets to every show in London.
