Save On American Idiot This Spring

This is great news for all you Green Day fans. American Idiot the new Broadway musical based on Green Day's Grammy Award winning album is currently in previews at the St.James Theatre in anticipation of an April 20 opening. As I mentioned in last weeks blog I was fortunate to be able to attend their final sound check prior to that evenings first preview.

While I am a fan of the album I am anxious to see how the show will make the transfer to the Broadway stage. Now granted I only saw the opening number but if the put that much energy into the whole show then it is going to be amazing. For those of you like me who are dying to see the show then I have some fantastic news.

From now thru May 16 you can get tickets to see one of this season's most highly anticipated new shows for prices that are below face value. Be advised that in order to be eligible for this special offer you must order by April 20 and that it is not valid for Saturday evening performances. Get your tickets to see American Idiot at the St. James Theatre on Broadway. Expect it to be a big contender at this years Tony Awards.

Collected Stories With Linda Lavin Now On Sale

That's right theatre fans.Tony Award winner Linda Lavin returns to the stage this Spring in Donald Marguiles' Collected Stories. The show which begins previews on April 9 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre was first seen Off-Broadway back in 1997. That production like this one was also produced by Manhattan Theatre Club. This is also the second play to open this season by Mr. Marguiles. Time Stands Still which starred Laura Linney closed last month after a critically acclaimed limited run also at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on Broadway.

Now while I have always enjoyed Ms. Lavin's work over the years my main reason for seeing the show is not because of her but because of her costar Sarah Paulson. Besides one of my favorite shows Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip as well as numerous television and film appearances over the years she is a great stage actress having played opposite Jessica Lange in the Broadway revival of The Glass Menagerie in 2005.

Now for those of you that are not familiar with the show here is a brief synopsis about the play from it's shows website. "Collected Stories chronicles the relationship between two female writers: Ruth Steiner (Lavin), a celebrated New York author with a dry wit and a distinguished career; and her bright-eyed young protégé, Lisa Morrison. As their relationship evolves and the line between fact and fiction starts to blur, their fascinating story comes to an explosive conclusion."

As is the case with all Manhattan Theatre Club productions it is a limited run with tickets selling thru June 13 at the is time. However if reviews are good expect it to extend at least for a few weeks. We shall see. By the way if you need tickets to see Collected Stories we can get you tickets to see the show at some incredible rates. From now thru June 13 you can get tickets to see the show at below face value. Who doesn't love a bargain? I know I do. Get your tickets to see Collected Stories on Broadway.

What To See In New York City

Can you believe it's almost April? I sure can't. Not only that but it is supposed to be Spring and it's miserable outside. No it's not snowing. Just raining like crazy. I guess April showers came a little early this year. Now I know you didn't come here to get the weather report so I guess I should get on with the reason for today's blog. Right now there are over seventy shows playing both On and Off-Broadway. Now of course you are going to want to see all of them while you're here right? O.K. maybe just stick to five or six.

The big question is what to see. Those of you who read my blogs know that my current favorite show is In The Heights. However that really isn't new anymore is it? Of the shows that have opened this season I highly suggest The Addams Family and Memphis. Both are a lot of fun and will have you smiling from ear to ear the whole time you are there. Plus they have some catchy tunes as well. Makes you want to rush right out and get tickets for both shows now doesn't it? Of course there are the other big shows like Wicked and Jersey Boys which continue to sell out night after night.

Can't forget The Lion King. Look I may not like it but there is no denying it's popularity. Then of course you have Broadway's longest running show The Phantom of The Opera. Who says I have to see a musical? Right now Broadway is alive with some of the best new plays as well as revivals of some of theatres greatest shows of all time. See that’s what is so great about the theatre. So many choices. Which one will you choose? Me. I don’t know yet. But no matter what I can always count on the theatre to give me a night that I will never forget.

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

This Sunday will officially mark six years working for Applause. My how time flies. In those years I have spoken to thousands of customers and sold just just as many tickets as well. Now in all that time one thing has remained the same. My love for live theatre. There truly is nothing like it in the whole world. Sure I may not have cared for every single show that I've seen over the years but the thing is bad theatre can be fun too.

I don't know about you but I have always been loved a good old-fashioned Broadway flop. Now don't get me wrong. I would love to see all shows succeed. A successful show makes everybody a winner. The truth is there are just some shows that are not destined to make it. It's the nature of the business. Believe it or not some of the best music that I have ever heard have come from those shows that were considered failures.

Look whether a show is a smash hit that runs for years and years or one that closes after a few weeks it doesn't matter. What matters is that we continue to support the theatre. If we don't then that means fewer new shows will open and that means less entertainment for all of us. Now you don't want that do you? I didn't think so. Until next time theatre fans.

All About Me To Close This Sunday

Come on. Are you really surprised that All About Me is closing already? I know since I never saw the show I have no right to judge. But let's face facts people. It doesn't take a crystal ball to figure out the show wasn't going to survive for very long after the bad reviews. Plus the fact that they dropped over 26% in sales last week from the week before didn't help either.

Now while the show itself did not fair well with the critics they did like the two stars. However that was not enough to save the show. When it closes All About Me will have played a total of 27 previews and 20 regular performances. Maybe Dame Edna would have done better doing another one-woman show. After all her other two did very well. I guess they will have to change the old saying to say,"Never work with children, animals,or Michael Feinstein".Until next time theater fans.

Good Seats Available This Week For A Little Night Music

I know what you're thinking. Didn't I just write a blog today stating that this is one of the toughest weeks to get tickets to most Broadway shows? How could there possibly be good seats available to one of the hottest shows on Broadway? Well there is a good reason for that. It's star Catherine Zeta-Jones is on vacation this week from March 30-April 4. Everybody deserves a little vacation right? Now while she may be out this week it's other star four-time Tony Award winner Angela Lansbury is scheduled to be in the show all week. Not only that but if you call now we can get you tickets to see A Little Night Music at prices that are lower then any other time of the year.Be advised that this offer is only good thru April 4 and is subject to availability. Don't miss your chance to see one of Broadway's most loved shows. Call now.

Next To Normal Recoups

This is great news for fans of this Tony winning musical. The show which began previews a little over a year ago at the Booth Theatre is by far one of the most touching and moving shows that I have ever seen and I hope that this means that Next To Normal will be around for a very long time to come. Now while the show cost less to produce then most other Broadway shows the fact that it recouped after less then a year in a theatre no bigger then eight hundred seats is a testament to how popular the show has really become.

It was also reported today that the show is expected to launch a National tour in November. For those of you who can't make it into New York to see it then I highly suggest you check it out if it comes to a city near you. It is a must see. By the way if you need tickets to see Next To Normal on Broadway now is the best time go. From now thru May 2 you can get tickets to see the show at below face value. Deal like these don't come around everyday so call now.

Broadway Grosses

It''s that time again. Time for my blog on last week's Broadway grosses. I know that your Monday is not complete without it right? Once again the same five shows grossed over a million dollars. Care to guess which ones? Well if you had read my blogs the last three weeks then you would know. Give up? The are Billy Elliot,Jersey Boys,The Addams Family,The Lion King, and last but not least Wicked. Plus there were six shows that grossed over $800,000 for the week as well. I would say things are looking up. Now while The Miracle Worker is closing at the end of this week there are still quite a few big shows still to open with Lend Me A Tenor opening this Sunday and The Addams Family and Million Dollar Quartet opening next week. The second half of this season is sure shaping up to be a good one. Let's hope it continues. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Alexandria,Virginia. It was near the end of the day on Saturday when a customer called looking for tickets to see Billy Elliot for tomorrow night's performance. As I'm sure most of you know that besides Thanksgiving and Christmas this is one of the busiest weeks of the year in New York what with Spring Break and Easter. Therefore she knew with Billy Elliot being of Broadway's most popular shows it might be difficult to get.

Well we did have seats but only in the Rear Mezzanine in the middle. Now for those of you that are not familiar with the Imperial Theatre they charge the same for Center Rear Mezzanine as they do for seats in the Orchestra and the Front Mezzanine as well. While if you go further back in the Rear Mezzanine or off to the side it is cheaper. The good thing is that it is such a small theatre all the seats are good.

Having no luck finding the lesser expensive seats in the Rear Mezzanine she decided to take the center seats at the higher cost. Just when I was about to wrap everything up I asked her if there was anything else that she wanted to see. She told me that her second choice in case she couldn't get in to Billy Elliot was God of Carnage. I told that even though I had not seen the show it was still very popular and that it's current cast had gotten very good reviews. Not only that but I could get her better seats for that show then Billy Elliot and at a lower price.

She told me that besides coming to New York two or three times a year to see a show she also attends theatre in Washington D.C. at the Kennedy Center. Since we both figured that Billy Elliot would make it's way there eventually and the fact that God of Carnage was exclusive to New York that she should see that one. So we crossed off Billy Elliot and I got her first row center Front Mezzanine for below face value. Plus I was able to give her several restaurant recommendations to choose from during her trip. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

The Miracle Worker To Close This Sunday

I don't know about you but I think it's a sad day when a show as moving as The Miracle Worker is closing after less then two months. Was the show perfect? No. It did however have great acting and was a great show for the whole family as well as student groups looking for a great show to see. Now as I wrote in my review of the show the main problem was the direction. What I mean by that is that while the show as a whole was very strong the overall production was hurt by being performed in the round.

I can't tell you how many key moments I missed because I was seeing the back of someones head. If not for that it would have more enjoyable. Chances are we will probably never see this show again in New York and that to me is a shame. If you haven't seen it yet I highly encourage you do before it is too late. There are still eight more performances left before the show closes on April 4. As I'm sure you know good seats are still available. Call now.

Find Premium Broadway Seats at Reasonable Prices from Applause-Tickets.com

"Let Applause-Tickets help you find the premium Broadway seats you’ve always wanted to the show you’ve been dying to see."

Get up close and personal with premium Broadway seats.

You’ll never feel closer to the action, the emotion, and the stars than with a pair of premium Broadway seats.

The stage, the sounds, the actors, the lights, the sets! These are the things that make a Broadway show so special. Attending any show is extraordinary but imagine how much more impressive it would be from a seat in the 7th row. How about the 4th row? The first?! At Applause-Tickets, we offer the finest premium Broadway seating available. Sure they cost a little bit more than the tickets further back in the orchestra or in the mezzanine or the balcony but you can’t beat the once in a lifetime view of the stage and the action. With your premium Broadway seats, you will experience a performance like never before.

Think of the difference between the “run of the house best available” Broadway seats and premium Broadway seats like the difference between silver and platinum rings. They both look good. You love wearing your silver ring as much as your platinum ring but somehow, they are not the same. The silver shines a little less. The stones look a little less expensive. Platinum simply feels better. With premium seats, you are seeing the same show as the other orchestra seat ticket holders but you are experiencing it in a whole different and more impressive way.

It is important to note that premium Broadway seats are seats in the middle section and the first ten rows that the theaters set aside at higher prices. You can purchase premium seats months in advance or often the day before the show, if they are still available. They are not sold as “best available” seats because their price is different than the rest of the theater. Be sure to ask our customer service experts about premium seats, even if it’s the day before the show. Sometimes when a theater thinks that they will not be able to sell their premium seats, we can get them for non premium ticket prices then we pass on substantial savings to you.

See What Applause Theatre Service Can Do For You

Everyday when I come to work I get the chance to talk about theater in New York. Now while Applause does specialize in tickets to both Broadway and Off-Broadway shows we do sell other events. Not only do we sell tickets to all events in New York but we also sell theatre both in London and Nationwide as well. Who else can say that? We all know that when purchasing tickets for the first time it can be a little confusing at times. Of course you want to find the best seats at the best prices. Who doesn't? The question is how do you go about finding the best one.

Earlier this week I wrote a blog on how to go about buying tickets to your favorite show. Look I know better than anyway that doing a little research when you are shopping around is a no brainer. I mean let's face it it's your hard earned money that is being spent after all. Besides there are so many companies out there to choose from right? Applause is just one of several hundred that sell tickets. So what separates us from the pack?

You know I have been working in this line of work for almost ten years now and nothing gives me more pleasure than sharing my love of theatre and entertainment to new and returning clients every day. This is what we do. When people ask me what I do I don’t just say, “I’m a ticket broker” or “I sell tickets.” I really feel like we provide a great service. And I’m not afraid to say that we do it better than anybody else.Sure I may be a little bias but if you don't believe me why not give us a call and judge for yourself.

Promises,Promises Begins Performances This Weekend

Out of all the revivals this season Promises,Promises is the one that I am looking forward to the most. Not only does it have a score by Burt Bacharach and Hal David but a book my one of Broadway's greatest comedy writers of all time Mr. Neil Simon. Then when you factor in Emmy winner Sean Hayes and Tony and Emmy winner Kristen Chenoweth as it's two leads then you have a show that can't be beat.

Promises,Promises is set to begin previews on March 28 at the Broadway Theatre with opening night set for April 26. The show which marks it's first time on Broadway since the original 1968 production is being directed and choreographed by Tony winner Rob Ashford. Now with only La Cage Aux Folles and A Little Night Music as the only two revivals still running expect Promises, Promises to be a big Tony contender this May.

Broadway could use a big fat hit and if reviews are good I expect Promises, Promises to be the one to beat at this years Tony Awards. By the way if you are looking for tickets to see the show then now is the best time. From now thru May 16 we can get you tickets to see this much loved musical comedy for prices that are....wait for it......below face value. Look a bargain is a bargain. Might as well take advantage of it when you can. Get you tickets to see Promises, Promises on Broadway. It is a must see.

Come Fly Away

Well the reviews are in for Come Fly Away and as I promised in yesterday's blog I will be posting the reviews. For the most part I would say they were mixed. The New York Times seemed to really enjoy it while the other New York papers not as much. Judge for yourself. Now as I mentioned yesterday they are selling pretty well as of right now. Look no matter what the reviews say I would think the show will at least survive thru the Summer. We shall see. Until next time theatre fans.

Purchasing Tickets To A Broadway Show

So let's say that you are a travel agent and a client comes into your office and besides coming to you to make their travel plans they also need help getting theatre tickets. Well I guess you could waste hours on the Internet looking for the best deal or you could make one phone call and get them tickets in a matter of minutes. That's what happens when you call Applause. Yes I know there are hundreds of other companies out there that sell theatre tickets. That will never change. The question you have to ask yourself is do you really want to deal with the headache of calling ten or twenty other places to eventually find that they don't have what you are looking for or do you want to take care of it the easy way? I don't know about you but I would choose the latter. Look you already have enough on your plate trying to find your clients a nice hotel while they are here. Why not make a little thing like getting tickets a piece of cake. I like cake. Don't you?

Megan Mullally Exits Broadway Revival Of Lips Together, Teeth Apart

Let the rumors begin. It was announced today that Emmy winner and stage and television star Megan Mullally has excited the Broadway revival of Terrance McNally's Lips Together, Teeth Apart. The show which is produced by the Roundabout Theater Company was scheduled to begin previews at the American Airlines Theatre on April 9.

As of now the first preview has been postponed with an announcement of a new preview date and her replacement due shortly. Opening night is still scheduled for April 29. Here is a statement that was released today by Roundabout Theatre Company Artistic Director Todd Haimes about Ms. Mullally's sudden departure.

"We were surprised and disappointed that Megan Mullally had to withdraw from the production immediately in breach of her contract. With the loss of Megan in a four-person ensemble, work has been delayed after only two weeks of rehearsal. We have wanted Joe Mantello to direct this comedy since he staged a reading for us three years ago. We expect to announce replacement casting shortly."

Speculation is running rampant all over the message boards on who will replace her. At this point it's anybody's guess. Expect a announcement to be made in the next few days. Who knows? Maybe all this controversy will boost ticket sales. We will soon find out. Until next time theatre fans.

Final Performances Of A View From The Bridge

That's right theatre fans. You only have thirteen more chances to see the critically acclaimed revival of Arthur Miller's A View From The Bridge. Now as a ticket broker we usually get the chance to see all the new shows before they open. That way when you call and ask our advice on what or what not to see we can give our expert opinion. Well because A View From The Bridge was so popular we never got a chance to see it. Bad for us but good for the producer's of the show who are reaping the benefits. Now for those of you who didn't get a chance to see this classic drama it's not too late. Good seats are still available thru April 4. Next up at the Cort Theatre is the revival of Fences starring my favorite actor Mr. Denzel Washington. Trust me. I am not going to miss that. Even if I have to buy a ticket myself.

Come Fly Away Opens Tonight

That's right theatre fans. Twyla Tharp's latest work Come Fly Away is set to open tonight at the Marquis Theatre on Broadway. Now while I saw the show a few weeks ago and enjoyed it for the most part I'm not sure what the critics are going to think. Her first show Movin Out was a favorite of mine when it opened back in late 2002 but I hated her second show The Times They Are A Changin. I know hate is a strong word but after her first triumph my expectations were very high.

So far the show has been grossing over $500,000 a week since it opened with last week selling at 83% capacity although most of those tickets were discounted. Look if the reviews are good hopefully sales will increase and it will be around for awhile. With all the more traditional musicals out there Come Fly Away is a nice change. I hope it lasts. We shall see. Check out tomorrows blog where I will post the reviews. Until next time theater fans.

Broadway Grosses

I guess the old saying it true. "The more things change, the more they stay the same". Just like the previous week six shows grossed over a million dollars at the box office. They were Billy Elliot,Jersey Boys,The Addams Family,The Lion King,Wicked, and West Side Story. Not only that but eight other shows grossed over $600,000 as well. Looks like things are looking up doesn't it? Not only that but with new musicals American Idiot,Million Dollar Quartet, and the new revival of Promises, Promises still set to open the rest of this season is shaping up to be one of the most successful in many years. Let's hope so. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Oakdale, California. Last Saturday I received a call from one of our regular customers who was making plans for her yearly trip into New York with her husband. This year she wanted to see five shows in six days. I've never seen five shows in a month let alone a week but since she only gets to New York once a year she said she wanted to see as much as she can. Her choices were South Pacific,West Side Story,Billy Elliot,The Addams Family, and Wicked. Pretty good line-up don't you think?

Now since both South Pacific and West Side Story had been playing for awhile I told her that not only could I get her great seats but at below face value. Now while Wicked has been playing for over six years it is still the most popular show on Broadway. The good news is that of all the shows we sell Wicked is the one that we always have the most available tickets for in our inventory. Therefore I was able to once again get her great seats at a fair price. Next up was Billy Elliot. For those of you who have not seen it the Front Mezzanine is actually the best view as not only are you elevated but you are closer to the stage then you would be in the last seven rows of the Orchestra.

Last but not least was The Addams Family. Now while it has only been playing for a few weeks it is already a huge seller grossing over a million dollars a week since it began previews back on March 8. I saw the show on it's third preview from Row H in the Orchestra. Now while I loved the show I kind of wish I was further back or even upstairs in the Mezzanine which by the way overhangs very close to the stage. Anyway I found her the seats at the right price and her theatre trip was now complete. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Buying Tickets Online

As a licenced ticket broker in New York for several years now I am smart enough to know that we are not the only game in town. Heck were not even the only broker in our neighborhood. Now I know that buying tickets can be difficult and at times very confusing. With all the different website's out there how do you know who is legitimate and who is not? What I tell people on the phone is that even if you don't order from me to do your homework. Try to find a company that has a telephone number so that you can actually speak to someone.

I can't tell you how many people say that they called Applause because they knew that by calling us they were speaking to a live person. I also tell people that sometimes when other companies quote you a price be careful as usually it is much higher when you go to check out. Trust me. It happens all the time. Now besides the two things I mentioned another thing to be on the lookout for is companies that offer "Zone Seating". Basically what that means is that you are paying all that money and not getting exact seat locations.

True the theatres in New York are very small but if you are going to trust someone you don't know you with your money you deserve to know what you are buying. Tickets are expensive nowadays. You are entitle to get what you pay for. Now there are legitimate companies out there. In fact I would say 75% or more of the brokers in the country are not only licenced but are there to help you get the best deal you possibly can. If they didn't then you would never buy from them again right? Look the point is whether you go thru Applause or anybody else take your time. It's your dollar after all.

American Idiot To Beging Performances Tonight

Calling all Green Day fans. Now sure you don't have to be a fan of the band to enjoy the show but it sure helps. My guess is that most of the audience buying tickets to see American Idiot is for that reason alone. Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the final sound check for the show prior to it's first public performance tonight at the St. James Theatre on Broadway.

The entire presentation consisted of the casts performance of the title song "American Idiot" which opens the show and the appearance of it's director Michael Mayer and the members of Green Day who discussed the show. Now from what I saw this is going to be a show with a lot of energy and sex appeal. To me it reminded me more of Spring Awakening as opposed to Rent.

Now while I enjoy Green Day's music I'm not sure if there enough fans out there that will buy tickets to see this Grammy Award winning album sung by a bunch of Broadway performers. I for one hope it succeeds. We shall see. Opening night is set for April 20. Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway vs. Off-Broadway Shows in New York – What’s the Difference? – Applause-Tickets.com

A guide to help you figure out if you’re more suited for Broadway or Off-Broadway shows and how to tell the difference.

broadway vs off broadway

What are the Differences Between Broadway and Off-Broadway Shows?

We help you tell the difference between headlining Broadway shows and their Off-Broadway counterparts.

It’s Showtime! The words ‘Broadway Show in New York’ usually bring to mind images of huge marquees with flashing lights and big name stars as the headliners. In many cases, this is absolutely true. Broadway is called Broadway because of the famous theatres at and around Times Square in New York City. These theatres have given many actors and actresses their start in show business and are still a home for many seasoned acting veterans. Broadway is also the home to many big name Hollywood movies that have been converted into theatre shows. Family friendly shows like Shrek, Mary Poppins, and Lion King all have their long running and successful home on Broadway. If you like the sound of big theaters, big production, big names, and elaborate sets, picking a Broadway show is probably right for you. At any given time, there are a number of genres and themes to suit the tastes of any theater aficionado.

Off-Broadway shows are a completely different breed. These shows are usually much smaller in production and housed in theaters that are slightly off the beaten track (hence the name, Off-Broadway). The performances that are shown in these theatres are usually grittier, more artsy, and edgier. If you like the idea of watching up and coming actors, many of whom will go on to become big name actors in theatre and movies, Off-Broadway is probably the place for you. Perhaps the most appealing part of Off-Broadway is the intimacy of the productions. The theatres are almost always smaller than huge Broadway theatres. This means that at every show you will be sitting closer to the stage and closer to the action. You will have a first-hand view of the creativity and talent that fuels the inspiration for many larger Broadway productions.
Call Applause-Tickets today to speak to a local New York theater expert who can help you find the Broadway or Off-Broadway show that is right for you.

Tony Award Winner God Of Carnage To Celebrate Anniversary

That's right theatre fans. One of last season's biggest hits is set to celebrate it's first year on Broadway this Monday March 22.God of Carnage which won three 2009 Tony Awards including Best Play opened on March 22,2009 at the Barnard B. Jacobs Theatre on Broadway. Not only is it still one of Broadway's most popular plays but it is now on it's third cast. Playing the four leads are Janet McTeer, Dylan Baker,Lucy Liu, and returning to the show is original cast member and Tony nominee Jeff Daniels. Except this time he is playing the role of Michael who was originally played by former costar and fellow Tony nominee James Gandofini.

Most plays don't usually last this long let alone have as many cast replacements. My guess is if they continue to bring in new names every few months it should extend it's run well into the year. It's also been rumored that they are looking into bringing in an all star African-American cast once the current actor's complete their run. Now that is something I would love to see. By the way if you are looking for tickets to see this Tony Award winning play then now is the best time. From now thru May 2 you can get seats for God of Carnage for below face value.Deals like these don't come around every day so call now.

Now Is The Best Time To See South Pacific On Broadway

Now in it's second year on Broadway is South Pacific. The show which won seven 2008 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival has been playing to packed houses at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre since March 2008. The show which first premiered on Broadway back in 1949 is set to close on August 22, 2010 after a total of 37 previews and 1000performances. Not bad for a show that opened over fifty years ago.

Now for those of you who have yet to see the show there is no better time then the present. Good seats are available for every performance. In fact because the theatre is so small there is not a bad seat in the house. 1000 seats and the largest stage on Broadway. You can't get any better than that my friends.Get your tickets to see South Pacific on Broadway. Only five months and counting theatre fans.

Spring is in the air and you know what that means don't you? Savings on over fifteen Broadway shows including Mamma Mia. The show which is now in it's eighth year continues to bring in audiences of all ages from around the world. Now I have to be the only person on the planet who hasn't seen the show. Chances are I probably won't. Not unless I get dragged kicking and screaming.

Look I'm sure there is nothing wrong with the show. It wouldn't have lasted this long of it hadn't right? Millions of ABBA fans can't be wrong. Now as I was saying if you are one of the few people on the plane who haven't seen the show or you are just dying to see it again then you have come to the right place.

Good seats are available at prices that are......wait for it....below face value. Now while it is good for performances thru June 24 you must order by March 28. That means you've only got eight more days to get this incredible offer. Get your tickets to see Mamma Mia on Broadway.

Jersey Boys Is Still The Show To See On The Great White Way

Still haven't seen Jersey Boys yet? Well there is no better time then the present. The show which won four 2006 Tony Awards including Best Musical continues to draw audiences around the world week in and week out. In fact besides Wicked it is still one of the top grossing shows on Broadway. Even in it's fourth year on Broadway is still continues to gross over a million dollars every week.

It's funny but after all these years you would expect that everybody has seen it. I mean New Jersey is not that big of a state.Just kidding. You don't have to be from the Garden State to appreciate the show. You don't even have to be a fan of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons to enjoy it. Although it probably helps.

Regardless if you know their music or not the fact is that Jersey Boys is an amazing show. Like I always say,"Good theatre is good theatre." No matter what the subject matter. Now for those of you who haven't seen the show you have come to the right place.

Just give one of our friendly ticket experts at Applause a call and we will take care of the rest. It's as simple as that. Don't forget that Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all your ticket needs. That's what we do.

Shrek To Open In The West End

London theatre just got a little more exciting. It was just announced today that Shrek is set to open in London's West End. Now while no dates have been announced it is speculated that the book and score have been rewritten since the Broadway production closed this past January. I for one loved the show and thought that it should have enjoyed a longer run on the Great White Way then it did. Let's hope that the London version is a big hit. If any shows deserves to succeed it is Shrek. Keep your fingers crossed. Until next time theatre fans.

Disney On Broadway

I know what you're thinking. The world's biggest Disney hater in the world doing a blog on them? I must have really lost it.Now to be honest I don't hate everything that Disney puts out. I just don't like them taking over Broadway. In the last fifteen years alone they have produced six different shows on the Great White Way. The Lion King is still running having first opened in December of 1997 while Beauty and the Beast enjoyed a thirteen year run before closing in 2007. Aida enjoyed a nice four year run and Mary Poppins while not a blockbuster has been playing since the fall of 2006.

That brings me to Tarzan and The Little Mermaid. Both shows ran for a little over a year and a half and failed to make it's investment back.I guess four out of six is better than most. Now of the six shows that Disney produced I actually saw all of them except for The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. In case you are wondering I didn't pay for the tickets. I got them free thru work.Regardless of what I think Disney is here to stay my friends. That will never change. I guess I should be thankful because without their shows we might not sell as many tickets. That means less jobs and no more blogs from me. You wouldn't want that to happen would you? I didn't think so. Until next time theatre fans.

See The Miracle Worker On Broadway For Below Face Value

Want tickets to see The Miracle Worker on Broadway but don't want to spend and arm and a leg? Well have you come to the right place. The show which marks it's first time on Broadway since the original 1959 production opened at the Circle in the Square Theater earlier this month.

Now while the reviews were not as good as they could have been I personally loved the show. Having never seen a live production or any of the several movies that the play is based on I wasn't really sure what to expect. While the cast as a whole was very strong the real standouts for me were it's two leading ladies. Alison Pill and Abigail Breslin.

Now I'll admit that I usually agree with the critics when it comes to certain shows. Most of The Miracle Worker's critiques were do to it's staging. For those of you that aren't aware the show is staged in the round. Usually I like that as it can give some of the older shows from the past a new perspective. Sometimes it worked. Sometimes it didn't.

Regardless of that the show has a very raw emotional feel to it and is quite moving at times. Based on the performances alone it is a must see. Now as I was saying before if you are looking to get tickets to see The Miracle Worker we can get you tickets to see the show for below face value. This deal is good thru May 16 so don't delay. In The Heights

Can you believe it's been over three weeks since my last In The Heights blog? I know. I know. You must be going thru withdrawals right? Anyway the show which just celebrated it's second year on Broadway back on March 9 is still going strong both on Broadway and at theatres across the United Sates. Why shouldn't it? Not only did it win the Tony Award for Best Musical but it is one of the best shows playing on Broadway today.

Sure I may be a little bias but it's true. I can't tell you how many people I have sent to see the show who not only loved it but ended up telling their friends to go see the show as well. Told you it was good. Tickets are now on sale thru October 3. Sure that may be more than six months away but it's never too early to plan ahead. Get your tickets to see In The Heights on Broadway or at a city near you. It is a must see.

Over Six Years And Counting Avenue Q Is Still Going Strong

Never in all my years in New York have I ever seen anything like Avenue Q. The show which beat Wicked for the Tony Award in 2004 for Best Musical enjoyed a six year run on Broadway before moving Off-Broadway last October. Now I know what you are thinking. If the show was so successful why on earth did it move? Even though it had a longer run then most shows usually do they figured that by moving it to a smaller venue they could not only produce it for much less but hopefully ensure that it would be around even longer.

Having seen the show several times I can attest to how good it truly is. Not only that but it was also the first Broadway show that my parents had ever seen and they still talk about it over six years later. I guess you could say it made a good impression. Now while the theater maybe different the show is just as funny and relevant as it was back in 2003. Good theatre is good theatre. That will never change. Get your tickets to see Avenue Q. You will have the time of your life. I guarantee it.

It’s Showtime! Find Broadway Theatre Tickets for the Whole Family – Applause-Tickets.com

If you think Broadway theatre is just for adults, think again! We can help you find shows that the whole family will enjoy – Applause-Tickets.com

Broadway Theatre Tickets Will Create Memories to Last a Lifetime

Broadway offers shows suitable for all ages. Spend an afternoon watching stories and characters come to life before your very eyes!

Billy Elliot. The Lion King. Simba. Belle. Mary Poppins. Glinda the Good Witch. Spider Man.

These are just a few of the characters you’ll find hanging out on Broadway. You may even recognize a few names from popular television shows and movies. To many people, Broadway theater tickets are an investment for an adult evening out. When they think of Broadway, they think Phantom of the Opera and South Pacific – both amazing and epic shows that are probably not suitable for young children. Most people would never even consider taking their children to the theatre. We are here to show you that Broadway can be an extremely family friendly place. In fact, shows marketed towards younger audiences have been amongst the most successful shows ever to appear on Broadway.

In today’s world, school theater programs are becoming more and more obsolete. Budget cuts and lack of interest by children is depriving many communities from experiencing a beautiful and important artistic medium. Research has always shown that children who watch and participate in theatre programs are likely to be more well rounded and confident. For many children, an interest in the stage comes from a single magical experience at the theatre. The lights, the seats, the auditorium, the costumes and actors – All of it adds up to a well conceived element of DRAMA that your children will absolutely love. Purchasing Broadway theatre tickets is an easy way to participate in an activity with the whole family. When you walk out of the theater after the curtain falls, you will find yourselves talking about the show, singing the songs, and discussing which show you just have to see next. It’s truly the ultimate family bonding experience.

If you are not sure which Broadway show would be loved most by your family, give Applause-Tickets a call today. Our team of local Broadway experts has tons of experience and knowledge to help you decide which characters to spend an evening (or afternoon) with.

Tickets Now On Sale To See Kristin Chenoweth and Sean Hayes In Promises, Promises

Being a huge Burt Bacharach fan I am really looking forward to seeing Promises, Promises on Broadway. Of course having the talented and adorable Tony and Emmy winner Ms. Kristen Chenoweth certainly helps too. This marks the first time the show is being revived on the Great White Way since the original 1968 Broadway production which ran for 1,281 performances. Besides Ms. Chenoweth the show stars fellow Emmy winner Sean Hayes(Will and Grace)who is making his Broadway debut.

Rounding out the cast are Tony nominee Brooks Ashmanskas(Present Laughter),Tony winner Katie Finneran(Noises Off),and Tony Goldwyn. For those of you unfamiliar with the show Promises, Promises is actually based on the 1960 Academy Award winning film The Apartment. Besides music by Burt Bacharach it has lyrics by his long time collaborator Hal David and a book by Neil Simon. Even if you are not familiar with the show I'm sure you have heard some of it's music.

Two of it's most well known songs are "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" and the title song "Promises, Promises" which became hit singles for singer Dionne Warwick. Previews are set to begin at the Broadway Theatre on March 27,2010 with opening night scheduled for April 25. With only two other revivals still running(A Little Night Music and La Cage Aux Folles)it stands a good chance at some Tony nominations this May. I for one hope it is a big fat hit. We shall see. Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway Revival Of West Side Story Celebrates Anniversary

That's right theater fans. This Friday will mark the first anniversary of the Broadway revival of West Side Story. The show which first premiered on Broadway back in 1957 opened on March 19, 2009 at the Palace Theatre. Having never seen a live production of the show prior to this one I must admit I walked in with a little bit of trepidation. The movie has always been a personal favorite of mine and I wasn't sure if this production would live up to the film. I mean how could it? The movie is an Academy Award winning masterpiece after all. However I was intrigued when I heard that several of the songs were being sung in Spanish.

So there I was on a Wednesday matinee in March waiting for the show to begin. Right away that familiar music began to play and I felt right at home. Cut too two and half hours later and I was smiling from ear to ear. Is this production as good as the movie? No. Looking back I was wrong to try and compare the two. This production should stand on it's own and while it may have some flaws it is still a must see for any fan of musical theater. Chances are this will be the last time this show will be on the Great White Way again. We should treasure it while it is still here. Get your tickets to see West Side Story on Broadway. It is a classic.

Applause And Group Tickets

Now while most of our sales at Applause comes from individuals we do sell group tickets as well. In fact over the last few months we have seen an upswing in the number of group orders. In fact today I just sold twenty tickets to a group coming into the city in early June. Their first choice was West Side Story which was sold out for the price that they wanted.Believe it or not that show does very well on Wednesday matinees.

Now while I was not able to obtain tickets for that show I was able to find tickets in the Rear Mezzanine for The Phantom of the Opera for that date. Now I know what you're thinking. "Rear Mezzaine? That's the nose bleed section. Will I need binoculars?" Not at all. For one thing the Majestic Theatre is not very big and the other thing I like to tell people is that when you compare our theatres in New York to other theatres in the country we have some of the smallest. Take that all you naysayers. Just kidding.

So anyway I was able to get twenty seats in the same area and at a rate that was much lower than I had originally quoted her. By the way if you are looking for group tickets we sell every show in New York. That includes theatre, ballet, opera, and every sporting event as well. All you have to do is give us the show, the date, and the number of people and we will take care of the rest. It's as simple as that.

Sondheim On Sondheim To Begin Previews This Week

Calling all Stephen Sondheim fans. Do I have a show for you. Sondheim on Sondheim which is being produced by the Roundabout Company is set to begin previews at Studio 54 on March 19 in anticipation of an April 22 opening. Be advised this is a limited engagement scheduled thru June 13. However with most Roundabout productions if reviews are good you can expect the show to extend.

The show which features over two dozen classic Sondheimn tunes as well as never before seen footage of Sondheim himself stars Tony Award winner Barbara Cook,Vanessa Williams, Tom Wopat, and a bevy of other Broadway veterans. Now while I am not the biggest Sondheim fan in the world I am intrigued to get his insight on his work in his own words.

Plus when we will ever see those three stars in the same show again? Like all Roundabout shows tickets are limited early in the run because of it's large subscriber base. The good news is that Studio 54 is so small there is really not a bad seat in the house. Get your tickets to see Sondheim on Sondheim on Broadway. It is already one of the most talked about shows of this season.

All About Me To Open On Broadway Tomorrow Night

Now I'll be the first to admit that out of all the shows that are opening this season All About Me is the one that I care the least about. Nothing against Dame Edna or Michael Feinstein it just doesn't sound like my type of show. Regardless of what I feel about it there is obviously an audience out there for these two.

The show which began previews at the Henry Miller's Theatre on February 22 will officially open tomorrow night. What the critic's will say about it is anyone's guess. This is Dame Edna's third go around on Broadway having won a special Tony Award 2000 and being nominated during her last engagement in 2005. Mr. Feinstein was last seen on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre on 1990.

Now while both have a following I'm not sure if there enough people out there willing to shell out a $120 each to see them in a show together. The good news is that if you are one of their many fans who are dying to get tickets there is a way to see it for less.

In fact if you call Applause now we can get you tickets to see this new musical comedy for below face value. Be advised this special offer is only good thru April 18,2010.Get your tickets to see All About Me on Broadway. Sure I may not want to see it but somebody out there does.

Get Tickets To See Fela On Broadway For Below Face Value

One of this season's most critically acclaimed shows is Fela. The show which is based on the life of activist and musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti opened on Broadway last November to rave reviews. Prior to it's Broadway opening it had a very successful run Off-Broadway at the 37 Arts Theatre.

It's interesting to note that this was the same theatre that launched In The Heights. That show would go on to win the Tony Award for Best Musical and become one of Broadway's biggest hits. Will Fela have the same success? Only time will tell. By the way if you need tickets to see Fela on Broadway then you have come to the right place my friends.

From now thru July 4 tickets are available to see this crowd pleasing musical at prices that are lower then you will find anywhere else. See the show that Ben Brantley of The New York Times said, "There should be dancing in the streets. There has never been anything like this on Broadway." Get your tickets to see Fela on Broadway. You will love it.

Getting to a Broadway Play in New York – Applause-Tickets.com

Find everything you need to Know About Getting to your Broadway Play on Time and Without Hassle at Applause-Tickets.com

new york

Navigating Your Way to a Broadway Play in New York City

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles! Find your way to Broadway.

New York City can seem like the biggest city in the world even though its actual size isn’t that large. With countless skyscrapers, taxis, people, and streets, it can feel like you are trapped in a maze; a maze full of hotdog stands and yellow taxis. It may seem like you’ll never find your way to the Broadway play you had been looking forward to. Have no fear! With a few easy tips, you’ll be running around New York like a local.

When you fly into New York, you will be arriving in one of three airports. LaGuardia is the closest but also the smallest. JFK is the largest, most international of the three. Newark is possibly the cleanest and quietest of the three but it’s also in New Jersey and therefore the furthest away. AirTrain is a train that connects JFK and Newark Airports with the city. This is easiest from the Newark Airport. You simply follow the signs, hop onto the AirTrain, and transfer at the Newark International Airport Station to a NJ Transit train that will take you straight to Penn Station in New York City. If you are arriving at JFK, this process requires more confusing transfers. You can’t beat the savings but if you have more than a small carry on piece of luggage or small children, I would recommend taking a car or taxi into the city. Private car services cost about the same as a taxi ($24-$50, depending on the airport) and will be waiting for you when you get out of the baggage claim. If you decide to reserve a car, be sure to call 24 hours in advance to reserve it.

Once you make it to the city, getting around is a breeze. Find yourself a detailed walking map and go explore! Most of the Broadway theaters that we sell show tickets to are in a concentrated area. If you have some extra time the day before your show, find your way to the theater and then wander around the neighborhood. New York has surprises around every corner; you just have to be willing to find them. Taxis are absolutely everywhere. To hail one, stand on the edge of the sidewalk or safely on the side of the street and put your hand out. A taxi will stop for you if they don’t already have a passenger inside. The Subway is easy to use as well. Simply find an entrance and walk down the stairs. All stations have large detailed subway maps so you will know which line to take and where to get off. Purchase a MetroCard at one of the kiosks or at a ticket window.
The most important thing to have when finding your way to a Broadway play is a sense of adventure. You may get temporarily lost but there will always be a way to get back on track –just give yourself a few extra minutes to get to the theater in time for the start of the show!

Applause And London Theatre

Planning a trip across the pond in the near future? Well why not take in a show while you're there? Not only is London home to some of the most exciting plays and musicals in recent years but where else will you see classic productions of one of the world's greatest playwrights of all time. I am course talking about the one and only Mr. William Shakespeare. You've heard of him right? Now say Romeo and Juliet or Hamlet is not your cup of tea. How about Andrew Lloyd Webber's newest musical Love Never Dies? Sure the reviews weren't the greatest but ticket sales are still going through the roof. Right now there are over twenty-five musicals playing in London along with over thirty plays. That's more than Broadway. I guess it helps that they have twice as many theatres as we do. With this many shows to choose from how can you possibly go wrong? Give us a call and let Applause Theatre Service give you a theatrical experience that you will never forget. What do you have to lose?

Broadway Grosses

That's right theatre fans. It's time for my weekly Broadway grosses blog. Last week we had five shows hit the one million mark. They were Wicked, Jersey Boys,Billy Elliot, The Lion King and joining this illustrious group for the first time is........The Addams Family. I had the pleasure of seeing the show last week and based on it's numbers it is already a smash hit. I hope the reviews are good because this show truly deserves to be around for a very long time. It is outstanding. Besides the shows I mentioned seven shows grossed over $600,000. Not only that but The Miracle Worker which I loved got a nice bump last week. Hopefully that will be enough to keep it around for awhile. With fourteen more shows still to open before the end of April this season is shaping up to be one of the best in recent memory. Keep your fingers crossed.
