The Holidays Are Officially Here

You know what happens tonight don't you? Why the lighting of the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center of course. The holidays are here and what better way to celebrate them then by coming to New York and seeing a show. We are the theatre capitol of the world after all. Now we all know that no Christmas is complete without the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. The show which is celebrating it's 77th year at the world famous Radio City Music Hall is set to feature an array of new songs as well as incredible 3-D effects that promise to excite and entertain audiences of all ages. Now doesn't that sound like a show you want to see?

Well maybe a big old Christmas show is not your thing. How about Broadway's hottest show in almost a decade? No I'm not talking about Wicked although it still remains Broadway's top grossing show week after week. I am talking of course about the nine time Tony winning musical The Book of Mormon. Let me guess. You've never heard of it right? Maybe if you've been living under a rock for the past twelve months. Now while the show may be popular it doesn't mean you can't get tickets. Good seats are available for all performances. Oh sure the tickets may be a little more than most but sometimes you have to pay a little to get the best.

Well what if theatre isn't what you are looking for? Maybe you need transportation from the airport to your hotel? How about your own personal Sedan or SUV to take you to and around Manhattan? Well thanks to the folks at ExecuCar and Applause you can have all of that and more. Enjoy the sights and sounds of one of the world's greatest cities as you ride in style. So many things to do. So many places to see. How will you spend your holiday? I know where I will be. In the greatest city in the world. New York, New York. So nice they named it twice. Happy Holidays!

Mary Chase's Harvey To Return To Broadway Starring Emmy Winner Jim Parsons May 2012

I can't tell you how excited I am about this news. Not only is Harvey one of my favorite plays but Jim Parsons is on my favorite television show. Of course I am talking about The Big Bang Theory. Let me guess. You've never heard of it right? Wrong. It's only one of the most popular shows on television.

Now while I had heard a rumour that the he was going to star in this new revival of the Pulitzer Prize winning play a few weeks ago I told myself not to get too excited as I know it wasn't definite. After all these years I know better not to believe everything I hear. Especially when it comes to theatre gossip.

Luckily for me and all his fans this rumour became a reality. I can't wait to see it. Previews are set to begin at Studio 54 on May 18, 2012 with opening night scheduled for June 14. Like all Roundabout Theatre productions this will be a strictly limited engagement.

How long that will be has not been announced at this time. Besides we all know it can't run forever. He's got to return to our little television screens in time for the fall season. As of now it has not been announced when tickets will go on sale but be sure to check this blog site for more info in the coming weeks. Until next time theatre fans.

Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark Celebrates Anniversary

Well I guess hell has truly frozen over my friends. In the grand scheme of things I guess Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark is not the worst thing to ever happen. After all it is bringing people to the theatre which can only be a good thing. Now while the show may not be a favorite of mine I certainly understand it's appeal. It is a great show for kids. Well kids that are into Spider-Man anyway. Not only is the show celebrating it's first year on Broadway but last week the show grossed over two million dollars at the box office. Pretty good for a show that got horrible reviews and was pretty much predicted to be dead on arrival. Looks like it is here to stay. Good seats are now available for all performances. Not only that but if you call now you can get tickets to see the show for prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru February 26, 2012 it is not god from December 20-January 8 and is subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark. Oh sure it may not be my cup of tea but it just might be yours. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from my home state of Illinois. Let me guess. You all thought I was a native New Yorker didn't you? Not hardly. Although I will celebrate twenty years of living here in February. Anyway enough about me. Last week we received a call from the Broadway Theatre informing us that Sister Act would no longer be performing on Thursdays beginning in January. Now wouldn't you know it but that was the day my customer had tickets for the show. So after calling her with the bad news she asked if we could possibly switch a couple of the shows around so that way she would still be able to see all five shows while she was here. I told her that would not be a problem as I knew we could return her tickets for War Horse even if we couldn't sell it. That's what having a great relationship with theatre's will do for you. Long story short not only was I able to not only switch her dates but I was also able to get her comparable seats as well. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

New Play Stick Fly Is A Must See

Now I'll admit that when I was first offered tickets to see Stick Fly I wasn't really sure if I was going to go. I take that back. When the show was first announced a couple of months ago it sounded like something I would want to see and more than likely enjoy. However after a long day at work the last thing I wanted to do was sit in a theatre for three hours. Plus the fact that is was the night before Thanksgiving meant I still had a lot to do before I went into work the next day.

So there I sat in the theatre waiting for the show to begin. I'll be honest when the show first started I didn't like it. In fact I was sure that I would be leaving at intermission. Then something happened. Truth me told if you asked me what it was that changed my mind I couldn't tell you. All I know is within a few minutes I was hooked and couldn't wait to see what would happen next. I can't remember that last time that I enjoyed a play so much. Yes I can. It was August:Osage County which for those of you who have seen it can attest to how good it truly was.

Most people that I know that have seen Stick Fly say that reminds them of that show. In some ways they maybe right. Both are about dysfunctional families with secrets that threaten to destroy them for years to come. Let's face it. Everybody has a few skeleton's in their closet. It's how you choose to deal with them that is the true test. Now for those of you who think that Stick Fly is only for African-American audiences you couldn't be more wrong. Just because the family is black doesn't mean you can't relate to it or enjoy it for what it is. A great play that will have you still taking about days and weeks after you have seen it. I can't recommend it enough. Get your tickets to see Stick Fly on Broadway. You will hate yourself if you don't.

Peter Pan Starring Cathy Rigby Now On sale

One of my first big roles in high school was during my sophomore year in our Spring production of Peter Pan. Now for those of you that are wondering I was not Peter Pan. I was Smee and the understudy for Captain Hook. Prior to doing the show I wasn't really all that familiar with it. Oh sure I had seen the cartoon as a child but this was a full fledged musical. Now even though Ms. Rigby has returned several times over the years I have never seen it. Maybe I will have to check it out this time as this is rumored to be her final run in the part. Of course she has been saying that for years so who knows. By the way for those of you who want tickets to see Peter pan than you have come to the right place. Good seats are available. Not only that but at prices that can't be beat. This "Special Offer" is good for all performances from December 14-December 24. Get your tickets to see Peter Pan this holiday season. Who knows? What To See In New York

Can you believe that the year is almost over? Where has the time gone? It seems like only yesterday that I was getting ready to tune into this year's Tony Awards and now it's time for Thanksgiving. Now one of the perks of working at Applause is we get invited to all the shows. That way when a customer calls and wants our opinion on what to see we can tell them whether we liked or not. Trust me friends. If i don't like a show I won't tell you I did just to make a sale. Our job is to make sure our customers have the greatest experience possible. It's not always about making a sale. It's important to make the customer happy too.

Now for those of you who are planning a trip to New York and we all know you are. I mean why else would you be on this website. Right now there are more than sixty shows playing both On and Off-Broadway. Not only that but most of those shows are for below face value. Look we all know that going to the theatre can be expensive. The good thing is it doesn't have to be. There are ways to save. You just have to do your homework. Regardless of who you purchase from the important thing is to see a show. No matter if it's Wicked or The Radio City Christmas Spectacular there is nothing in the world like live theatre. It is an experience that you will never forget. Until next time theatre fans.

See Mary Poppins For Below Face Value This Winter

Now I'll be the first to admit that I am not the biggest Disney fan is the world. Yes I enjoyed Aida but the fact that it wasn't a cartoon prior to being on Broadway certainly helped. Well that and the amazing score by Tony and Grammy winner Sir Elton John. However I can proudly say without a shadow of a doubt that I loved Mary Poppins. Growing up as a child it was one of my favorite movies.

Now I would be lying if I told you that I wasn't a little skeptical when they first announced that Mary Poppins would be coming to Broadway. Not that I'm sure it wouldn't be good. As much as I don't like Disney I know that when they put on a show they give it all they've got. I guess I was just worried that it would lose some of the magic that the movie so brilliantly captured. Well as it turns out once again I was wrong.

I would even go as far to say that I enjoyed the stage version just as much as the movie. Maybe even more. Let's face it. Movies are great. But we can all agree that there is nothing like live theatre. It is an experience that you will never forget. By the way for those of you who still haven't seen Mary Poppins yet there is no better time than the present Good seats are available for all performances. Not only that but at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru March 25, 2012 it is not good for the following dates.

November 25 2pm and 8pm
November 26 2pm
December 3 2pm

Talk Live With Applause Theatre Service Today

Now I'll be the first to admit that when my boss first told us about this new service called "Boldchat" I wasn't exactly sure what to think. Quite frankly I much prefer speaking to people on the phone as opposed to talking on the computer. I don't even text. Yes I know I am probably the only one on the planet who doesn't but that's just how I feel. I don't like it. Well imagine my surprise when I actually found myself enjoying it. In fact it has even made my job easier if you can believe it. I can be talking to one customer online and another on the phone as well. Talk about multi-tasking. Plus it allows those customers who don't have time to chat on the phone to ask questions without having to pick up the phone. Not only that but you can also request tickets and we can confirm it all in the same chat. Boldchat and Applause Theatre Service. Now that's what I call a winning combination.

Final Week's For Tony Winning Musical Billy Elliot

That's right theatre fans. You have less than two months to see Billy Elliot. The show which won ten 2009 Tony Awards including Best Musical of the Year will play it's final performance on Sunday January 8, 2012. When it closes it will have played a total of a total of 40 previews and 1,304 regular performances. Now for those of you who have read my blogs know that I avoided seeing the show for almost three years into the run. In fact I was the only person in my office who still hadn't seen it. Not that I'm sure it wasn't good. A show doesn't win all those Tony Awards for nothing.

It just didn't seem like the type of show that would interest me. I had never seen the movie and quite frankly never had a desire to either. Well against my better judgement I decided to go and see it this past September. I figured if I didn't like it I could at least leave at intermission. Now I am man enough to admit when I am wrong and boy was I ever wrong about this show. I loved it. In fact I would put it in my top ten of Broadway shows that I have ever seen. I can't recommend it enough. Now of course wouldn't you know it that right after I finally saw it they announced it was closing. Oh well. You still have seven weeks to check it out. Get your tickets to see Billy Elliot on Broadway. Time is running out.

The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess To Begin Previews Next Month

That's right theatre fans. One of this season's most highly anticipated news shows is set to begin previews on Broadway in the coming weeks. The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess starring four-time Tony winner Audra and McDonald and Norm Lewis is set to begin previews at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on December 17, 2011 with opening night scheduled for January 12, 2012. As of now the show is only scheduled to run thru June 24, 2012 but if reviews are good I expect that may change. Now believe it or not but except for a couple of songs (Summertime, I Got Plenty if Nothing) I really am not that familiar with the show. Having said that I am really looking forward to seeing it. Good seats are now available for all performances. Not only that but at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru February 26 2012 it is not good from December 26 thru December 31 and subject to availability. See Broadway's Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark For Below Face Value This Winter

Now for those of you who have read my blogs before know that I am not the biggest fan of Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark. Having said that you can't deny it's popularity. After all the show has continued to gross over million dollars a week at the box office since it began previews at the Foxwoods Theatre inNovember 2010. In fact it will celebrate it's first year on Broadway on November 28. Oh sure it didn't officially open to the public until June of this year but it still remains of of Broadway's hottest grossing shows. Not too bad for a show that didn't get the greatest reviews. what can I say? People love a spectacle.

Now while the show continues to do well at the box office that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. In fact if you call right now you can get tickets for below face value. That's right. I said below face value. Trust me. In these economic times the more you can save the better. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru February 26. 2012 it is not good from December 19 thru January 8 2012 and like all discounts is subject to availability. Broadway's Most Popular Show Is Still Wicked

Still haven't seen Wicked yet? Well what are you waiting for people? It's only the most popular show in Broadway history. What other show can you name that have consistently sold out night after night for over eight years? Not too many my friends. Oh sure there may have been a few weeks that the show slipped beneath the 95% mark but it still grosses over a million plus dollars a week. How many shows can say that? Once again not too many. Now as I have stated many times over the years that while I enjoyed the show I never expected the show to continue to sell at the rate that it has since it opened in October 2003.

Also when you consider the fact that it didn't get the greatest reviews when it opened makes it even more of a success story. Get your tickets to see Wicked on Broadway or at a city near you. Oh you didn't know that Applause sells tickets for other cities besides New York? Not only do we sell tickets for all events in New York but every city in the United States as well as London, Italy, and France. Also don't forget that Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all your ticket needs. Why not give us a call? You'll be glad you did.

That's right theatre fans. The holiday season is fast upon us and you know what that means don't you? Why it's time to see a show of course. So whether you like dramas or comedies, plays or musicals, New York city is the place to be this fall.

Let's start with everybody's favorite holiday tradition. I am of course talking about the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. This year's edition which is in it's 79th year began performances last week at the world famous Radio Music Hall and will run thru January 2, 2012. With new songs and special 3D effect this year's version promises to be better than ever before.

Another perennial holiday classic is George Balanchine's The Nutcracker.I remember seeing this as a young child during my first trip to New York City and it was an experience that I would never forget. If you get the chance to see it I highly recommend it. You will love it.

Also returning to the New York for the first time since 2005 is Peter Pan starring Cathy Rigby. This beloved musical is set to begin performances at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden on December 14 and run thru December 30. It is a must see.

Besides the shows I mentioned above you there are several other shows that you might want to check out while you are here that are perfect for the whole family.

1.) Wicked-Eight years and counting and it still Broadway's most popular show.
2.) Mary Poppins-Not just for kids. If you love the movie you will love the show. Maybe even more.
3.) The Lion King-Disney's most popular show of all time with no end in sight.
4.) The Addams Family-The perfect show for all ages. Great music and one of Broadway's funniest shows. Not only that but it has Brook Shields. How can you go wrong?

Not only does Applause sell tickets but we are experts when it comes to finding the best restaurants to eat at while you are here. Check out Todd’s picks.

Looking for the perfect Christmas Gift? Applause sells Gift Certificates. You pick the amount and we will take care of the rest. It's as simple as that. Don't forget that Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all your ticket needs.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Westminster,Colorado. This past Thursday I received a call from a very nice woman who was coming to New York this week with her family and was hoping to get tickets to a few shows while they were here. I asked her what she wanted to see and her three choices were War Horse, Venus In Fur, and The Addams Family. Now of the three shows she wanted I was thinking that the only one that might be difficult is War Horse as not only did it win the Tony Award for Best Play but it remains one of Broadway's hottest selling shows. Oh and did I mention she wanted a Saturday night?

Luckily I was able to get her a last minute cancellation from the theatre and she was all set. One show down. Two to go. Now since The Addams Family has been playing for awhile and because she had picked the day before Thanksgiving I was not only able to get her excellent seats in the Front Mezzanine but for below face value. Same thing for Venus In Fur. So there you have it folks. Three great shows at three amazing prices. Another satisfied......Wait a minute. Not so fast. She was so pleased with her tickets and the service that we provided that she called the next day and purchased three tickets to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Now let's try this again. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

Can you believe that Thanksgiving will be here in a little over two weeks? I sure can't. In fact in less then three months I will celebrate living in New York for twenty years. Time sure does fly now doesn't it? Now like most people I cam here to be an actor. Big shock right? Over the years I have changed my career path from actor to director and most recently composer and lyricist. I guess you could say that I do it all. In between all of that I have worked at many different jobs. I have done everything from demonstrating toys at F.A.O. Schwarz to my current job of selling tickets at Applause Theatre Service.

Having worked here for almost eight years now I have literally talked to hundreds of people. From travel agents that have used us for years to people that are using us for the very first time. There is nothing better than helping people experience the magic that is live theatre. Oh sure we offer other things as well. We don't just sell theatre tickets you know. Maybe Broadway is not your thing. There are other things to do in New York. What about tickets to the Opera or ballet? Or maybe your a sports fan like me and cannot wait until basketball season finally starts. Yes I know that is wishful thinking but a boy can dream can't he? See that's what is so great about New York City. There is something to do for everybody. How many other cities can say that? Not too many. Until next time.

Chicago The Musical Celebrates Anniversary

Has it really been fifteen years since Chicago made it's triumphant return to Broadway? Now while I loved the show when I saw it back in 1997 I never expected to still be talking about it all these years later. Yet here we are in 2011 and Chicago remains one of Broadway's most popular shows. In fact not only is it Broadway's longest running revival in history but it currently ranks number four in the all time list as well as being the longest running American musical in history. It's kind of amazing when you consider that the original production ran a little over two years and was completely overshadowed by a little show called A Chorus Line which ran for fifteen years. Interesting note the recent revival of that show ran for less than a year and a half. Although it did make back it's entire investment which we all know is what counts anyway. By the way for those of you who still haven't seen this Tony winning musical there is no better time than right now. Good seats are available for all performances thru January 1, 2012. Not only but if you call now you can see it for below face value. Who doesn't love a bargain? Get your tickets to see Chicago on Broadway. You will love it.

Shopping On The Web

With the holidays fast approaching I'm sure most of you like me have been racking our brains trying to figure out what to get our loved ones for Christmas this year. Luckily we have the Internet to do most of the work for us. I mean let's face it. The last thing any of us want to do is spend an afternoon in an over crowded mall in the middle of winter. I know I don't. Which brings me to the reason for today's blog. Buying on the web. We all do it. Matter of fact I do all of my shopping on the web. Even for theatre tickets and I live here.

Oh sure I could walk over to the theatre and buy them myself. I do work in Times Square after all. Well what if you don't have that luxury? The truth is most people that come to New York to see a Broadway show don't live here. Most are coming for the first time. Therefore who do you choose when it comes time to purchase your tickets. As we speak there are hundreds of companies that sell tickets to both On and Off-Broadway shows as well as other events in New York and Nationwide. In New York City alone there are currently thirteen companies licensed by the State of New York that are authorized to sell tickets. We just happen to be one of them.

Having worked at Applause for almost eight years now I have sold tickets to hundreds of shows to both travel agents and consumers alike. The one thing I always tell people as that whether they order from us or someone else try to find a company that allows you to speak to a live person. I can't tell you how many people use us time and time again because they know that when they call us they are going to speak to a live person. Trust me. It makes a difference. The truth is when it comes to buying tickets it is important to take your time. Do your homework. Then choose the one that works best for you. After all it's your money. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Last Saturday I received a call from a very nice lady who had heard about us from the New York Pass. For those of you who are not familiar with that it is a great service that offers discounts as well as free things to do and see in New York. Sounds like a good deal to me. So anyway after I found out when she would be here I asked her what she wanted to see. Her first choice was the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Even though she had seen the show several times she wanted to take her son who had never seen it.

I told her that since she was coming before Thanksgiving I would not only be able to get her excellent seats but for below face value. Well she loved that. One show down. Two to go. Her next choice was Mary Poppins.Once again I was able to get her very nice seats in the Front Mezzanine. Which in case you didn't know is the best view as she flies upstairs during the show. Plus I was able to get them for below cost. For her third and final choice she picked Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark. However I could tell she was a little hesitant as she hadn't heard very good things about it.

I told her that while I did not care for it the show has been selling very well. She thanked me for my honesty and asked if I could suggest something else. I told her that I thought that The Addams Family would be a better choice as not only is it very funny but perfect for the whole family. She decided to take my advice and I when all was said and done I was able to secure three seats in the Mezzanine for below face value. So there you have it folks. Three great shows at three amazing prices. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Christmas Is Just Around The Corner

That's right. The holidays are officially here. Yes I know. Thanksgiving is still two weeks away. I am talking about the 2011 Radio City Christmas Spectacular. This holiday favorite which is now in it's 77th year is set to begin performances this Friday at the world famous Radio City Music Hall. Now while I have never seen the show there is no denying it's popularity. A show doesn't last all those years for nothing. This year's production is scheduled to run thru January 2,2012. Get your tickets to see the 2011 Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Your holidays won't be the same without it.

Godspell Reviews

Well the reviews for Godspell are in and unfortunately they were mixed. This new production which marks it's first time on Broadway since the 1976 production opened last night at the Circle in the Square Theatre. Now while I don't expect the show to close anytime soon I can't imagine it lasting thru the Tony's with reviews like these. I for one hope it sticks around for a while. We shall see.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Texas. Frisco to be exact. Last week I received a call from a gentleman who was planning a trip to New York for the holidays and wanted to see a couple of shows while he and his family were here. I asked him what he wanted to see and he told me he he was hoping to get tickets to both War Horse and Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark.

Now normally with a show like Spider-Man we can get excellent tickets for below face value. However since it was the week between Christmas and New Years most shows if any will not offer any discounts. Makes sense to me. It is after all one of the busiest times in the city. So anyway now that I knew what he wanted to see and when I set out to find him some nice seats and at a reasonable price.

When all was said and done I was able to obtain nice seats in the Flying Circle which is case you didn't know is just a fancy name for the Front Mezzanine. Not only that but at a price he had seen lower than anywhere else. One show down. One to go. Now while War Horse is Broadway's hottest new play I was lucky enough to find him two seats in the Orchestra on an aisle and once again at a rate that he had seen elsewhere. So there you have it folks. Two great shows and at two amazing prices. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?
