Customer Story

What? Two customer stories in one week? It's possible. After we all we do have some awesome customers here at Applause so it makes sense to write about them. Two days ago I received a phone call from a travel agent in South Carolina who's client was planning a trip to New York in late November and wanted to see a few shows while they were here. Their choices were Wicked, Mary Poppins, and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Now based on the shows I figured at least one of the people going was a young child or a least a teenager. Makes sense right? Turns out I was wrong. They were all adults. Anyway after finding out what they wanted to see and when I needed to find out where they wanted to sit and how much they wanted to spend. Because they picked a non-peak performance for Radio City I was able to get them excellent seats in the Center 1st Mezzanine for below cost. One show down. Two to go. Because Wicked remains one of Broadway's most popular shows they knew it would be probably be more expensive than the others. In the end I was able to find them seats in the Front Mezzanine and at a price that was lower than expected. Two down. One to go. The third and final show was Mary Poppins. Care to guess where the ended up sitting? That's right. The Mezzanine. Oh sure it was the Mid Mezzanine but it is still a great view. So there you have it folks. Three great shows at three amazing prices. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

So here I sit on a surprisingly warm Friday afternoon at work trying to find something to blog about. Actually I am waiting for Hurricane Sandy to arrive. Yeah right! I'll believe it when I see it. Everybody was freaking out about Hurricane Irene and it lasted less than two hours here in the city. The other boroughs not so much. That's why I am thankful that I live in Manhattan. Anyway as far as theatre in New York there really isn't a whole lot going on right now as far as new musicals. In fact most of the new shows right now are plays. That is nothing new of course as most of the big shows don't usually open until the Spring is time for the Tony Awards. As of now there are fourteen new shows set to open between now and the end of April. Five of those are new musicals.

The Anarchist-Previews begin on November 13
Ann-Previews begin on March 7
Cat On A Hot Tin Roof-Previews begin on December 18
Cinderella-Previews begin on January 21
Dead Accounts-Previews begin on November 3
Diner-Previews (TBA)
Golden Boy-Previews begin on November 8
Hands On A Hardbody-Previews begin on February 23
Kinky Boots-Previews begin on March 5
Lucky Guy-Preview begin on March 1
Matilda-Previews begin on March 4
Mowtown:The Musical-Previews begin on March 11
The Nance-Previews begin on March 11
Picnic-Previews begin on December 14

Pretty interesting line-up wouldn't you say? Now I'm sure you probably noticed quite a few omission's. Barry Manilow is a limited run as are Elf, The Christmas Story, and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Plus Annie, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Heiress, and The Performers while opening this year have been in previews for the past couple of weeks. So I guess if you want to get technical there are twenty-two shows opening then. Oh well. Now out of all the ones that are set to open the two that I am most excited about our Mowtown and Lucky Guy. One because I love the music and two because two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks will be making his Broadway debut. And no he will not be starring in Mowtown. Although that would be an interesting casting choice don't you think? Anyway it looks to be an interesting season my friends. Which ones will fail and which ones will succeed? We will soon find out. Until next time theatre fans.

See The 2012 Radio City Christmas Spectacular For Less With Applause

That's right. Christmas is here. Aren't you excited? I know I am. It is my second favorite holiday after all. Care to guess which one is my favorite? Why Thanksgiving of course. Now while I have never been one to turn down some Turkey and stuffing that is not the reason why I love it. The real reason why it is my favorite holiday is because of the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. Growing up as a child the parade was my first exposure to New York City and I from then on my love for this amazing city began. Cut to twelve years later and I'm standing on 73rd and Central Park West watching it live and in person for the first time. Now I know you're all wondering the same thing. Did the live version live up to my expectations?Well I'm still talking about it over twenty years later so what do you think?

Anyway enough about me and my obsession with the parade. You came here to find out how you can see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular at some incredible savings. So let's get to it. Now unlike the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade I have never seen it. Kind of hard to believe right? Look I'm sure it is amazing. It wouldn't have lasted for almost eighty years if it wasn't. It's just seems like one of those events you go to with your family or your loved ones and since I am currently single and my parents live hundreds of miles away I won't be going. At least not this year anyway. Oh well. There is always next year. Now for those of you who want tickets to the show you have come to the right place. Good seats are now available for all performances. This year's edition is set to begin on November 9 and run thru December 30. Get your tickets to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Your holidays won;t be the same without it.

Now Is The Best Time To Come To New York City And See A Show

No plans for Halloween? How about a Friday or Saturday night? Why not see a show? Better yet when not see two. That's what matinees are for after all. Now while I love the theatre I don't know if I could sit through two shows in one day but there is always a first time for everything I guess. In fact most of my regular customers that come to New York every year usually see four or five shows in the span of just a few days. Now that is a theatregoer. We all know that going to the theatre nowadays can be expensive. The good thing is there are ways to save if you do your homework. As we speak there are over fifty shows that you can see for less. I mean who doesn't love a bargain? I know I sure do. Oh sure you may not be able to see shows like The Book of Mormon or Wicked for prices like that but there are other shows out there that are just as good. Now don't forget Off-Broadway. Believe it or not but Off-Broadway has been a major force on the New York scene for over sixty years. Where else could you see such unique and innovative shows like Blue Man Group or Fuerza Bruta? The thing is whether it's uptown or downtown there is always something to see. That's what makes New York City great. There truly is something for everybody. LIVE THEATRE. There is nothing like it.

Beware Of Scalpers

What is a scalper? I know you all have heard the term many times. According to www.investopedia.com, " A scalper is a person who buys large quantities of in-demand items, such as new electronics or event tickets, at regular price, hoping that the items will sell out. The scalper will then resell the items at a higher price. Such transactions often occur on the black market. This type of scalping is illegal under certain conditions." Sounds right to me. Now while Applause may be a broker we are not nor have we ever been a scalper. Oh sure when people want to call and complain because they don't like the price or they think they were ripped off the first thing they say is that "You are a scalper." Trust me. I've been called worse.

Yes we buy and resell tickets. And yes we have a mark up. That's how we make our money after all. If we didn't charge some type of service fee we would be out of business. Now you don't want that do you? I didn't think so. The truth is there are hundreds of companies out there that sell tickets. We just happen to be one of them. My feeling is that no matter who you purchase from make sure you do your homework first. I always tell people that no matter who you use try and find a company that has not only a working phone number but are also licensed by the state. If they are not then I would advise you keep checking around. It's your money after all. Until next time theatre fans.

Get Tickets To See Tony Winner War Horse For Less This Fall

Still haven't seen War Horse yet? Well there is no better time than the present. The show which won five 2011 Tony Awards including Best Play of the year is now available at prices that can't be beat. Now even though I have yet to see the show I am very familiar with the theatre. Not only is it one of the smallest theatres on Broadway but the seating is amazing. Stadium style seating and a thrust stage to boot. It doesn't get better that that my friends. That means whether you are in the first row of the Orchestra or the last row of the Loge you have a great view. How many theatres can say that? By the way the show recently announced that it will conclude it's award-winning run on January 6,2013. Don't miss your chance to see one of Broadway's most successful plays of all time. Broadway's Mamma Mia Celebrates Anniversary

Hard to believe theatre fans but its been eleven year's since Mamma Mia first opened on the Great White Way. Know what else is hard to believe? I've never seen it. In fact in the twenty years that I have lived here I have never stepped foot inside  the Winter Garden Theatre. I avoided Cats and so far I have managed to avoid Mamma Mia as well. Look I'm sure the show is good. It wouldn't have lasted all these years if people weren't enjoying it right? It's just not my cup of tea I guess. Besides who cares what I think. I'm pretty sure that Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus aren't losing any sleep over the fact that I haven't seen their show.

And yes I had to google their names. I thought I would be nice and give them a little credit as opposed to referring to them as the "Two Guys From ABBA". Now for those of you who still haven't seen the show you have come to the right place. Although at this point there can't be many people out there who haven't. Myself included of course. Good seats are now available for all performances. Not only that but at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Insider Price" is good thru December 23 it is not good for Friday November 23 and subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Mamma Mia on Broadway. It may not be my favorite show but it just might be yours. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the great state of New York. Victor to be exact. This past Wednesday I got a call from a travel agent who recently received our post card in the mail and wanted to find out a little bit more about our company and services. I explained to her that not only do we sell tickets to all shows and events in New York, London and Nationwide but that for every ticket she purchases she gets a $10 commission. Well she loved that. Anyway after a few more questions she decided to book a couple of shows. I take that back. She wanted three shows all for the same date and the same time.

Now wait a minute. How is that possible? Well as it turns out she was bringing a total of forty-four people and they all wanted to see different shows. Makes sense now right? By the way the shows they wanted to see were The Book of Mormon,Rock of Ages, and Wicked. All good choices in my opinion. Of course I still haven't seen The Book of Mormon. Oh well. Not like it's not going to be playing for the next ten years. So now that I knew what they wanted to see I needed to find out where the wanted to sit and how much they wanted to spend. Now they knew going in that The Book of Mormon would be the more expensive of the three. Plus since most of them were seeing that one I had my work cut out for me. I knew it would probably be difficult to get them all together. It was twenty-six tickets after all.

Luckily for them I was able to get most of the seats just a couple of rows apart and at a price that was lower than they were expecting. One show down. Two to go. Now since Rock of Ages has been playing for awhile I knew I should have no problem getting them good seats. Sure enough I was able to find ten seats in the Front Mezzanine. Two shows down. One to go. Once again I was able to find excellent seats in the Front Mezzanine for the whole group. So there you are folks. Three shows. Forty-four tickets. Now while I wouldn't have minded if she needed to use separate credit cards for each couple I won't mind telling you that I was beyond thrilled when she decided to use the company card for the whole transaction. Whew! Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Applause:Your One Stop Shop For All Your Ticket Needs

Need tickets to see The Book of Mormon on a Saturday night? How about tickets to see this years Radio City Christmas Spectacular? Or maybe sports are your thing. Let's say you are a big New York Knicks fan like me. Come on.I know there are a few of you out there. After all we are undefeated right now. Yes I know it's only preseason but it still counts in my book. Here at Applause we truly do sell it all. Travelling across the pond and want to see a show? We sell that too. Or maybe you are heading over to Vienna and want to see an opera or ballet. Believe it or not we can get your tickets for that as well. Who knew?

To be honest when I first started working at Applause over eight years ago I thought we only sold theatre tickets. Boy was I wrong. Oh sure we still sell tickets to every show On and Off Broadway. That will never change. The truth is there are hundred of companies out there just like us. That is another thing that will never change. So what makes us different from everybody else? Well besides selling tickets to all events around the world we also now sell car transfers as well as give suggestions for restaurants and other things to do and see around this great city of ours. How many companies do you know that do that? Not too many my friends. Plus Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all your ticket needs. Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the great state of California. Irvine to be exact. This past Friday I received an email from one of my regular customers who was bringing a group into New York City at the end of November and wanted to see two shows while they were here. Their choices were Nice Work If You Can Get It and Rock of Ages. Which by the way I have seen five times. I guess you could say I am a fan. Anyway she needed ten tickets for Rock of Ages and thirteen tickets for Nice Work. It seems that three people aren't big fans of Rock of Ages like I am. Oh well. It's not for everybody. Although why anyone would want to turn down two and a half hours of great 80's music is beyond me.

Anyway after finding out what they wanted to see and when I next needed to find out how much they wanted to spend. Now because Rock of Ages has been playing for almost four years I knew I would probably be able to get them tickets for less than our normal rate. Plus with it playing in such a small theatre all the seats are good. How can you beat that? One show down. One to go. Although Nice Work may not be as popular as Wicked or The Book of Mormon it still does pretty well on Fridays and Saturday evenings. Not too mention that they were wanting to see it on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year. When all was said and done I was able to get them excellent seats in the Front Mezzanine. Not only that but I was also able to find them a nice restaurant that could accommodate a large group as well. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Travel Agents and Applause

Since I started working at Applause over eight years ago I have literally sold thousands of tickets to people from all walks of life. From first time customers who found our website thru a google search to ordinary folks who bought tickets because they had the NY Pass. For those of you who are not familiar with it the NY Pass is a great offer that gives you discounts and sometimes free admission to over one hundred places and events in New York City. Now while we do sell a lot of tickets to consumers most of our business believe it or not comes from the travel agent industry. Trust me when I say we would not be where we are today if it wasn't for our loyal travel agents who continue to use our services year after year. Thank you. We couldn't do it without you. Now for those of you in the travel industry who have never used us before there are some advantages to doing so. For one we pay commission for every ticket you purchase. Not only that but when you order tickets for yourself you get a discount for you as well as everyone else in your party. Now if that doesn't make you want to get on the phone right now and call Applause I don't know what will. Don't forget that Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all your ticket needs. So why not give us a try? You'll be glad you did.

Company Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Connecticut. This past Friday I received a call from a travel agent who's client was planning a trip to New York in December and wanted to see two shows. Her choices were Wicked and The Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Two very popular choices during the holidays. The good thing is that since she was flexible on when she wanted to go I was able to get her an "Insider Price" for the Christmas Spectacular. Well she loved that. One show down. One to go. For Wicked I was able to find her excellent seats in the Front Mezzannine and at a price that was lower than she was expecting. Plus I was able to recommend a great hotel to stay at as well as some nice but inexpensive restaurants as well. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Tickets For The 2012-2013 New York Knicks Are Now On Sale

If you are like me you can't wait for basketball season to start. It seems like only yesterday that I was watching the Knicks play the Heat in the first round of the playoffs. Which by the way marked their first time since 2001. Hopefully we won't have to go another eleven years to get there again. Call me optimistic but I think we have a good shot this year of making it past the first round. We shall see.  Now being a huge Knicks fan I tend to get a lot of flack from my friends and colleagues. You know what? I don't care. Win or lose I am a Knicks fan for life. Anyway for those of you fans like me who are eager to get your hands on tickets for the 2012-2013 season then you have come to the right place my friends. Good seats are available for every game so call now. Get your tickets to see the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Who knows? Maybe I'll see you there. Until next time sports fans.

Big Apple Circus To Return To New York Later This Month

That's right circus fans. This year's edition of the Big Apple Circus is set to begin performances in less than three weeks. Excited aren't you? Besides who says you have to be a kid to enjoy the circus? Growing up I always looked forward to when the circus would come to my hometown. Granted it was only every couple of years but it was enough to satisfy me until the next time it came our way. Now of course when most people think of the circus today the first thing that comes to their mind is the Ringling and Barnum and Bailey Circus. Makes sense right? Well here in New York we have the Big Apple Circus. Now to be honest in all the years that I have lived here I have never seen it. I guess I'm a little to old to sit in a big tent with a bunch of screaming kids. Now when I have kids of my own I'm sure I will check it out. Until then I will just stick to selling the show to people that will appreciate it. Performances for the 2012 edition is set to begin on October 20 and run thru January 13, 2013. Good seats are available for all performances so call now. See you at the circus.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Arizona. Tucson to be exact. A couple of days ago I received a call from a very nice young lady who was planning a trip to New York later this month and wanted to see a couple of shows while she was here. I take that back. She actually wanted to see five shows. I don't know about you but I can barely handle one show a month. Five in week would kill me. Thank goodness for her that she loves the theatre. After finding out when she would be here I asked her what she wanted to see.

Her choices were The Book of MormonPeter and the Starcatcher, War Horse, Nice Work If You Can Get It, and Carmen. Now believe it or not but the only one that I have seen of that bunch is Peter and the Starcatcher which I loved by the way. For those of you who think that it sounds like a children's show because it is a prequel to Peter Pan would be wrong. It is great for all ages. See it if you get the chance. O.K. Enough shameless plugging for the show. Back to my story. So now that I knew what she wanted to see and when I needed to find out what type of seats she was looking for and how much she wanted to spend.

She told me that since she was ordering so many tickets she wanted to get the best deal possible although she knew that The Book of Mormon would be more expensive than the others. This is true. Anyway after a little research I was able to get her excellent seats for every show and at "Insider Prices" for three out of the five. In fact the tickets were Mormon were lower than she had seen anywhere else. Plus I was able to help them find some great but inexpensive restaurants to check out as well. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Get Tickets To See Broadway's Mary Poppins For Less This Fall

Still haven't seen Mary Poppins yet? Well there is no better time than the present. Now while I'll admit that I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world the movie version Mary Poppins was a favorite of mine as a child. In fact I bet I saw it at least 25 times or more growing up. I guess you could say I liked it huh? I think so.

Although I was looking forward to seeing my childhood movie come to life I was a little unsure if the stage version would be as good as the film. Well as it turns out I was worried for nothing. Oh sure nobody can ever replace Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke but those two actor's along with an outstanding ensemble of Broadway veterans and newcomers made that night in the theatre one I will never forget.

Oh I almost forgot. The reason for today's blog was to tell you about an incredible offer. Right now you can get tickets to see Mary Poppins in Broadway for prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Insider Price" is good thru November 18 it is subject to availability. Deals like these don't come around every day so don't delay. Get your tickets to see Mary Poppins on Broadway. It will make you feel like a kid again.
