Laurence Fishburne Returns To Broadway This Spring

Tony Award Winner Laurence Fishburne returns to Broadway this spring in Thurgood, a one man show based on the life and momentous times of Thurgood Marshall. I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Fishburne make his Broadway debut 16 years ago in August Wilson's Two Trains Running. Back in 1992 he was known as Larry, but even then you could see he had the theatre chops to succeed. Now he is about to take on what I think is one of his greatest acting challanges to date. We all know the story of Thurgood Marshall. A descendent of slaves who was a pioneering civil rights attorney, sucessfully arguing Brown v. Board of Education before the Supreme Court, who then became a member of that exclusive body and making history as the first African-American to serve. Sounds like a winner to me. FYI Thurgood is only playing until July 20th so get your tickets now.

Going to the theater in this town is always an incredibly enlightening and emotional experience for me and fortunately that is one of the great perks about working for Applause Theatre Service, I get to see a lot of theater! Perhaps it’s the bright lights of Broadway that still excites the kid within me, or perhaps the storyteller peeking out from behind the writer, urging me to tell my story. Whatever it is, it's always present, tugging at my sleeve. That's why I love this show so much I guess. He was able to tell this compelling almost life altering story to most who see it and I envy that.

A Bronx Tale” starring Chazz (Calogero) Palminteri is a tale of coming of age, a “West Side Story” if you will, for Italians. Of course, unlike “West Side Story”…“A Bronx Tale” in truth is a very personnel story of that kid, who spoke of “wasted talent” and of the tug of war between the blurred lines of good and evil. Anyway, it's an unforgettable night of theater! So get tickets now before the show closes on Sunday February 24th, and mention the Applause Insider rate for some great savings!
This show has already extended for the last time because "A Catered Affair" is opening at the Walter Kerr starring Harvey Fierstein on March 25th. You can begin purchasing tickets for this show on 2/17.

This is also your last chance to catch Tom Stoppards critically acclaimed Play "Rock 'N' Roll" . The limited engagement of Tom Stoppard's Rock 'n' Roll will play its final performance at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre March 9; there will be No Extension!
If you like great smart intelligent theater with terrific music, You'll Love this intense show! The production features a soundtrack that boasts some of rock 'n' roll's most influential artists, including John Lennon, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Plastic People of the Universe, Velvet Underground, the Grateful Dead, U2 and the Beach Boys.
Incredible savings can still be had by mentioning the Applause Theatre Service Insider special deals.

The Farnsworth Invention
It’s 1929. Two ambitious visionaries race against each other to invent a device called “television.” Separated by two thousand miles, each knows that if he stops working, even for a moment, the other will gain the edge. Who will unlock the key to the greatest innovation of the 20th century: the ruthless media mogul, or the self-taught Idaho farm boy? I saw this show last November in previews, and I have to say it was one of the most enjoyable evenings I have spent in the theatre in a long time. I only wish that the run was a little longer. Unfortunately this amazing show is only playing thru March 16th. But if you call Applause Theatre Service we can get you a special "Inside Deal" thru March 9th. Applause Theatre Service in New York-The Broadway Show Experts Like To Talk

We live in a time whereby many companies want you to book their products electronically (in my opinion it's because they are often lazy and don't want to devote live people to speak to potential customers). Not to mention, they save a ton of money and don't have to pay people right? The airline and hotel industries are notorious for not having enough "live help". You know how you often have to "press 1 or press 2, etc. And then you have to speak at a certain level or the automated system doesn't understand you. You know how frustrating that can be.

Applause Theatre and Entertainment Service Inc. of New York City, New York, prides themselves on running a company and promoting their "potential customers should call and talk to us". Applause has over 30 years of experience providing a very high level of service when it comes to securing Broadway Show tickets.

You can click here for a complete list of current Broadway Shows and if you "want to talk with us" live simply click the RED TELEPHONE in the upper right hand corner and we would be happy to "chat with you live".

For those shoppers that prefer to put a "voice with a face" you can click on our home page at . That's our staff right on the front. You can simply pick up the phone and call us at 212-307-7050 or 1-800-451-9930 and ask for Todd, Teresa, Carol, Claudia, Erik, Jay, Rich, Bill or Billy. We love to talk on the phone (taking as much time as you need) as well as chat on the RED PHONE.

When your plans include a Broadway show, you can count on the staff at Applause to be very helpful. We look forward to speaking with you, "on the phone or on the web site".

Broadway Show Tickets and Great Meals-Applause Offers the Best of Both Worlds

OK so the average person that buys Broadway Show tickets from Applause Theatre Service in New York ,gets the seats they want, at the price they want, along with the service they'll long remember too. Now what?

According to Rich Gladstone, an Applause owner and company Vice President, "you cannot believe how many thousands of people ask us where they should eat before going to their Broadway show". The answers are very simple. First we ask the customer what type of food they would like, then we start describing places we often go to. Most of the places we dine at are "very nice eating establishments with the same passion for service excellence that we strive to give to our own customers" says Gladstone, a Broadway ticketing veteran of over 31 years now.

Since we close our office around 8pm, we usually eat in restaurants that are nearby (which happens to be in the theatre district-perfect for our customers when you think about it right?). We often suggest some really fun eating establishments, with so many different ethnic flavors, that customers call or write us and tell us how much they enjoyed their dining experience. If you like, you might want to check out Todd Favorite Dining Spots . Todd had made a simple list of excellent restaurants guaranteed to please. And if you want a first hand experience, just give him a call at 212-307-7050 or 1-800-451-9930 when you get a chance. You can ask the staff for their opinions also as everyone here loves to eat out too.

The Applause staff loves to sell tickets and we love a great meal too. We get to see most of the shows and have experienced many of the restaurants in the area as well.

Give us a call sometime. We really want to help you make your time before, during and after the show one that you, your friends and family will remember for a long time.

Broadway Shows and excellent restaurants really are "the best of both worlds" aren't they?

Applause Theatre Service in New York-Real People You Can Trust to get the Best Broadway Tickets

Right now the January through March 2008 period in New York is usually what us Broadway industry insider's call "slow season". I've been saying that for over 30 years now.

Maybe it is "slow season" for Broadway but I could swear that we aren't really "slow" these days. Maybe the traveling public and the theatre-going public has really started taking advantage of cheaper airfares, discount hotel rooms and the "insider prices" that Applause Theatre Service has uncovered lately.

Sure we have access to the best seats in the house. They are fairly costly but you do get to sit front and center in the theatre of course. Most people want to sit in the front and center but cannot afford the price tag. As we talk with people more and more and find out how many shows they want to see, we almost always can suggest shows during this "off peak" time of year that will save the average theatre-goer "a bundle" of money.

If you get a chance, you may want to check out Applause's "insider deals" for 23 Broadway Shows as of this writing. You can click on , simply go to the show you are interested in, click on the page, get a description of the show, then if you like, get yourself the best Broadway ticket deals around.

Some of the shows are not available on the "insider ticket deals". This usually applies to the most popular selling shows like Wicked or Jersey Boys or Disney's latest hit Broadway Show called The Little Mermaid . But not to worry as Applause can get "reasonably priced" tickets to these popular shows as well so it doesn't cost you "an arm and a leg".

In fact, our customers are so happy with the savings we bring to them (and great seats too), that they often choose to spend the savings on a restaurant meal or two at places they sometimes might not usually go. You know, maybe something a little more upscale after savings all that money on the ticket deals. Choose a restaurant on your own or you may want to try our very own Todd Freeman's dining suggestions at . Saving money is just one thing, wait till you try the superb professional manner in which the Applause Staff will treat you.

When your plans include Broadway, we hope you will call upon the "real people you can trust" to get you the best seats for the best shows at the best prices.. See a Broadway show today. You'll be glad you did.

Do you enjoy great music performed with high energy in a Sopranos setting? Then Jersey Boys, , is the show for you! Well what we saw was near perfection! The audience ate it up. People got up and were grooving to the music. What a show! It's not to be missed! Oh and by the way it won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Musical!

A Catered Affair Sweeps San Diego Theatre Critics Circle Awards and you can get your tickets now with Applause Theatre Service

The San Diego Theatre Critics Circle Awards were announced at a West Coast ceremony last night and A Catered Affair, the new musical with book by four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein, score by John Bucchino and directed by Tony Award-winner John Doyle, was the big winner with 7 awards, including Outstanding New Musical. The SDTCC awards honor excellence during the theatrical year in San Diego; A Catered Affair premiered at The Old Globe on September 30, 2007, inaugurating the theater’s 2007-8 Season. The musical’s stars, Faith Prince and Tom Wopat, received Outstanding Actress in a Musical and Outstanding Actor in a Musical awards. The show’s score (John Bucchino), direction (John Doyle), lighting (Brian MacDevitt) and orchestrations (Don Sebesky) were also honored. The complete list of awards includes:

Outstanding New Musical

Outstanding Score – John Bucchino

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical – Faith Prince

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical – Tom Wopat

Outstanding Direction – John Doyle

Outstanding Lighting – Brian MacDevitt

Outstanding Orchestrations – Don Sebesky

When A Catered Affair opened in its pre-Broadway run, Anne Marie Welsh of The San Diego Union-Tribune declared, “What makes A Catered Affair different isn’t its size, but authenticity. That rare quality flows from Fierstein’s book, Doyle’s direction, the performances and, most importantly, Bucchino’s music; all spring from a similar vision and feel seamlessly unified.” She added, “A Catered Affair defies the lowest-common-denominator taste for “American Idol”-style belting, but also moves beyond the usual expectations for bouncy, brashly upbeat storytelling. . . The show defies popular expectation without becoming elitist or highbrow.”

A Catered Affair was also named one of the year’s best by The San Diego Union-Tribune, North County Times and San Diego Reader.**A Catered Affair begins performances on Broadway on March 25 at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48th Street) with opening night set for April 17.

The production stars Tony Award-winner Prince as ‘Aggie Hurley,’ the mother- of-the-bride, Tony Award-nominee Wopat as 'Tom Hurley,' the father-of-the-bride, Harvey Fierstein as ‘Winston,’ the uncle-of-the-bride, Leslie Kritzer as 'Jane Hurley,' the bride-to-be and Matt Cavenaugh as ‘Ralph Halloran,’ the groom-to-be.

A Catered Affair, Broadway's newest musical, asks the question that inevitably faces every mother and daughter: Whose wedding is it anyway? One family’s dilemma is now a funny, poignant and oh, so human show of love and disaffection. Set in the Bronx of 1953, this musical reveals a couple strained to their limits as they plan their only daughter's wedding. Harvey Fierstein’s book and John Bucchino’s score explore both our need for love and the true meaning of family.

Applause Theatre Service has your tickets to the brand new Musical Passing Strange

Passing Strange, , was a breakout hit when it debuted at The Public Theater last summer and will transfer to Broadway Feb. 8 with Opening night set for February 28, 2008 at the Belasco Theatre (111 West 44th Street) in Manhattan.

Get your tickets now(while you still can, it's sure to become a hot ticket!) for this fresh, exuberant, bracingly inventive, bitingly funny, and full of heart musical with a terrific cast that delivers perfectly pitched comic performances.
Listen to what the critics are saying;
"PASSING STRANGE introduces an exciting new voice to contemporary musical theater. Part concert, part book musical with driving rock music and a tart satiric tone- PASSING STRANGE defies generic categories. It dares in its playful way to honor big questions that have set adolescent souls yearning for centuries. How to discover and be true to your convictions, how to live a meaningful life, and still pay the bills, how to find the understanding you need without throwing away the love you're offered."
— NY Times
"With excellent songs and a vulnerable heart, PASSING STRANGE could join HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH as a punk musical."
— Variety
"Not since Stephen Sondheim introduced a kind of Jewish skepticism and irony to the Broadway musical, in the nineteen-fifties, and Tony Kushner revolved his 2003 show, CAROLINE, OR CHANGE , around the ways in which middle class intersects with race have we had such a finely crafted, ethnic-minded American musical as PASSING STRANGE."
— The New Yorker

Equus Set To Open On Broadway Fall 2008

Yes it's true folks. Daniel Radcliffe, AKA Harry Potter, is making his Broadway debut this September in the eagerly awaited revival of Peter Shaffer's Equus. Following a sold out run in London, Equus will begin previews on September 25,2008 and runs through February 8, 2009. Also repeating his critically acclaimed performance is Richard Griffiths who won a Tony Award two years ago for The History Boys. Radcliffe plays Strang, a disturbed stable boy who blinded six horses with a spike. Griffiths plays the psychiatrist who attempts to discover the source of Strang's bizarre behavior.Sounds like the making of a great comedy to me. NOT! The show as well as the stars drew positive reviews plus quite a bit of attention due to the nude scene in which Mr. Radcliffe bared all to the delight of hundreds of young female Harry Potter fans. Expect to see many a camera confiscated at a Shubert Theatre near you.
