New Play The Parisian Woman Starring Uma Thurman To Open Tonight On Broadway

The Parisian WomanThat's right theatre fans. One of this season's most highly anticipated new shows is ready to take the Great White Way by storm. The Parisian Woman, which is written by Beau Willimon (House of Cards), who by the way is making his Broadway debut, officially opens tonight at the Hudson Theatre.

Starring Academy, Golden Globe, and Emmy Award nominee Uma Thurman, and film and television star Josh Lucas, The Parisian Woman is based on Henry Becque’s late 19th century comedy La Parisienne. However this version takes place in President Trump's Washington D.C. as opposed to 19th Century France.

It was also announced that the show will change from week to week based on the coming and goings in our Nation's capitol. Why do I have a feeling the show will be changing quite a lot? I guess we'll see. The ninety minute play, which is directed by Tony winner Pam McKinnon (Edward Albee's Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?), will play a limited engagement thru March 11, 2018.

By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see the show, you are in luck. We sell it. In fact if you call now, you can get tickets to see The Parisian Woman at some incredible rates.Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru January 14, 2018, it is for select seats only, and as always subject to availability. Get your tickets to see The Parisian Woman on Broadway at the Hudson Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Meteor Shower To Open Tonight On Broadway

Image result for meteor shower broadway logoWhen I first moved to New York City all I wanted to see were  e musicals. Oh sure if I got a free ticket to see a play I would go. After all a free ticket is a free ticket. However in the last ten years or so, I would rather see a play than some splashy Broadway musical. My how times change right? Now the one show that I am really looking forward to seeing this season is Meteor Shower. Which is the reason for today's blog.

The show, which is written by Steve Martin, officially opens tonight at the Booth Theatre. Making her Broadway debut along side Tony winner Laura Benanti, Tony nominee Jeremy Shamos, and Emmy winner Keegan-Michael Key, who is also making his Broadway debut, is Emmy winner Amy Schumer. Now that's what I call a first rate cast. So what's the show all about? Well I'll tell you.

Meteor Shower is set in Ojai, California, on a hot night. Corky (Schumer) and her husband, Norm (Shamos), are having another couple over for dinner. However, Gerald (Key) and Laura (Benanti) aren't looking for a casual evening of polite small talk with new friends. Instead, the two couples find themselves in a marital free-fall matched in velocity and peril only by the smoldering space rocks tearing through the sky.

Well I'm sold. Oh and if that wasn't enough to entice you, the show is being directed by four-time Tony Award Jerry Zaks. Who by the way has two other shows running on Broadway. Hello Dolly! and A Bronx Tale. Not bad huh? By the way for those of you who want tickets to see the show, you are in luck. We sell it. Well that and every other show both On and Off-Broadway. Get your tickets to see Meteor Shower on Broadway at the Booth Theatre. Who knows? You just might see me there. Until next time theatre fans.

The Children, written by award winning playwright Lucy Kirkwood, begins previews tonight at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, with opening night scheduled for December 14. So what is the show all about?

The Children, takes place in a secluded cottage on the British coast, where a pair of introverted retired engineers reside. Suddenly the outside world experiences a series of devastating events, prompting an unexpected visit from a old friend. A visit that unbeknownst to them will have soon have a profound effect on their lives.

My Thoughts On The Theatre Scene In 2017

Image result for broadway theatre district pics
Can you believe that the year is almost over? O.K. technically we still have thirty-seven days until the end of 2017. But trust me. 2018 will be here before you know it. Since the beginning of 2017 forty-one new plays and musicals have opened.

Now while some of those were limited runs there were quite a few flops as well, like Bandstand, Amelie, Groundhog Day, War Paint, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which is scheduled to close next month.

Thankfully there is good news ahead as there are twenty shows set to open between now and next April, including sure fire hits like Frozen, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts 1 and 2, The Iceman Cometh starring Tony and Academy Award winner Denzel Washington, Mean Girls, and revivals of Carousel and My Fair Lady. Quite the season don't you think? Not only that, but we sell tickets to all of those shows. Live theatre. There is nothing like it. Until next time theatre fans.

Pretty Woman Musical To Open On Broadway Next Summer

Image result for pretty woman film logoNow for those of you who have read any of my previous blogs, you know I am not a big fan of movies turned into musicals. Having said that, I have to admit that I was a little intrigued when I heard that one of my favorite film's of all time was headed to the stage.

Pretty Woman, which is based on the award winning film of the same name, will have it's world premier next year at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago. Performances are set to begin on March 13. 2018, where it will play a limited five week engagement, prior to it's Broadway run.

The show is scheduled to open at the Nederlander Theatre on August 16. Now I know what you're thinking. Who are the two lucky actor's that have been chosen to play the film's beloved couple? Well I'll tell you. Playing Vivian, the girl from the wrong side of the tracks is Samantha Barks (Les Miserables).

Playing her Prince Charming in disguise is Tony Award winner Steve Kazee (Once). Sounds like good casting to me. Not only that, but directing and choreographing the show is two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, On Your Feet). But wait. It get's better. Pretty Woman: The Musical features a book co-written by the film’s director, Garry Marshall, and screenwriter J.F. Lawton, and music and lyrics by Grammy winner Bryan Adams and his longtime songwriting partner, Jim Vallance.

Now do you see why I am so excited? Tickets for the Chicago as well as the Broadway production are scheduled to go on sale in the coming weeks. Not only that, but we will be selling it. Get your tickets to see Pretty Woman at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago and on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Get Tickets To See Elf The Musical With Applause Theatre Service

Image result
One of my favorite Christmas movies of all time is Elf. Hard to believe this classic comedy came out fourteen years ago. Elf The Musical, which is based on the hit 2003 film of the same name, will play a limited engagement at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden beginning on December 13 thru December 29.

Now as much as I love the movie, I admit that I was a bit skeptical when it was announced that they were turning one of my favorite movies into a musical. Well as it turns out, I was nervous for nothing. I loved the show. Since it's Broadway premier in 2010, the show has returned to the New York City area several times, with it's last engagement in 2015.

Now here we are two years later, and the show is heading to the Big Apple once again. Now for those of you who want tickets to see this beloved holiday musical, you are in luck. We sell it. In fact if you call right now, you can get tickets to see the show at prices that can't be beat.

Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru December 29, it is for select seats only, and as always subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Elf The Musical at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden. Your holidays won't be the same without it.

Get Tickets To See Charlie And The Chocolate Factory For Less With Applause Theatre Service

Charlie and the Chocolate FactoryStill haven't seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Well what are you waiting for people? There is no better time than right now, to see Broadway's favorite "Scrumdiddlyumptious" show of all time.  Like how I threw that in there? Growing up, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was one of my favorite movies. Not only that, but Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was one of the first books that I ever read.

Now here we are some three decades later, and one of my childhood favorites is a big Broadway musical. To say I was excited was an understatement. The show, which premiered in the West End in 2013, opened on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on April 23. Now to be honest, the reviews weren't the greatest. But who cares?

After all, Wicked didn't get rave reviews when it opened, and it's been playing to packed houses on Broadway for fourteen years. Now for those of you who want tickets to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you are in luck. We sell it. Plus if you call right now, we can get you tickets to see the show at prices that can't be beat. Disney's The Lion King Celebrates Milestone

The Lion KingThat's right theatre fans. Disney's The Lion King is having a birthday. The show, which is based on the 1994 award winning film, will celebrate twenty years on Broadway tonight at the Minskoff Theatre. Now for those of you have read any of my previous blogs, know that I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world.

But even I know the impact that they have had on the New York theatre scene. Since it's premier in November 1997, the show has become the top grossing show in Broadway history, surpassing The Phantom of the Opera in 2014. Not bad for a musical based on a cartoon. Sorry. Animated film.

Now for those of you who still haven't seen the show, you have come to the right place. We sell it. In fact we sell every show both On and Off-Broadway. Get your tickets to see The Lion King on Broadway at the Minskoff Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway Revival Of Once On This Island Now In Previews

Once on This IslandOne of my favorite shows of all time is Once On This Island. Now when I found out that I was moving to New York, I was so excited. I mean it is the greatest city in the world after all. Plus I would get a chance to see this amazing musical. Unfortunately I moved here two months two late, as the show closed in December 1991.

Cut to some twenty-six years later and the eight-time Tony nominated show is headed back to the Great White Way. The show, which features a score by Tony winner's Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Anastasia), is set to open at the Circle in the Square Theatre on December 3.

Directed by Tony nominee Michael Arden (Spring Awakening), and choreographed by Camille A. Brown (Cabin In The Sky, tick, tick...BOOM!), Once On This Island stars Tony winner Lea Salonga (Miss Saigon, Allegiance) as Erzulie,Tony nominee Phillip Boykin (Porgy and Bess) as Tonton Julian, Merle Dandridge (Tarzan, Spamalot) as Papa Ge, Quentin Earl Harrington (Cats, Ragtime) as Agwe, Alex Newell (Glee) as Asaka, and Broadway newcomer Hailey Kilgore as Ti Moune.

New Musical SpongeBob SquarePants To Begin Performances Tonight On Broadway

SpongeBob SquarePantsNow I'll be the first to admit that I have never seen one episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. Not one. But even I know how popular the show is. After all the show has been on the air for the better part of two decades. Now here we are in 2017 and SpongeBob SquarePants and his pals are ready to conquer Broadway. The show, which premiered in June 2016 at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago will officially open at the Palace Theatre on December 4.

The new musical, which is conceived and directed by Tina Landau, features a score by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, John Legend, Lady Antebellum, and Cyndi Lauper. Now like I said I've never seen the show, but with a lineup like that, I am a little intrigued.
