Applause Theatre Service: Who We Are

April 5, 2004. Care to guess what happened on that date? No it wasn't the opening of a new show on Broadway. Although it is theatre related. Give up? That's the day I started working for Applause. That's over ten years for those of you math majors out there. Since that day I have sold thousands of tickets to shows and events all around the world. Oh sure Broadway may be our biggest seller but we do sell other things besides The Lion King and Wicked. Having been employed here for over a decade you would probably guess that I'm a little partial when it comes to our company as well as the kind of service that we provide for our customers. I mean let's face it. If we don't toot our own horn then who will? Now I know that we're not the only game in town. There are hundreds of companies just like us that do the same thing we do. So what makes us different from everybody else? Well I'll tell you.

Location. Our office unlike most ticket sellers out there is in New York City. Imagine that? In fact we are right in Times Square, just steps away from all the Broadway theatres. That means you can actually walk right up to our office seven days a week and purchase tickets to any show or event you want to see. How many other companies do you know that offer service like that? Not too many my friends. Plus I bet you didn't know that most ticket companies aren't even located in New York. Yes I know that's nothing new. It's always been like that. Now I go to the theatre a lot. Because I do I have been in every theatre multiple times and have sat in every section from the Orchestra all the way to the Balcony.

Now I know what you're thinking. What does this have to do with anything? Well remember how I said that most ticket companies aren't located here in New York. Now I don't know about you but when I buy tickets to see a show I like to speak to someone who's actually been in the theatre. Call me crazy but I think that's important. Plus since I go to all the shows I can tell them where the best seats are and of course if the show is worth seeing. Yes I know what I like others may not and vice versa. That's what makes theatre so great. There is something for everybody. It's like that with the ticket business too. There's a lot of options. The big question you have to ask yourself is which one do you choose? The thing is whether you order from us of the guy down the street just remember it's your choice. Just make sure it's the right one for you. After all it's your money.

Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas To Return To New York For The Holidays

That's right. The holidays are here. O.K. I realize that Christmas is still five months away but come on people. It will be here before you know it. And what better way to celebrate the holiday season than by seeing Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. The show which first opened on Broadway in 2006 is returning to the New York City area for the first time since 2012 where it will begin performances at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden on December 5 and run thru December 28. Tickets for the show are set to go on sale on August 20 and I have no doubt it will be a big seller. Makes sense to me. After all except for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular there really isn't any other show that celebrates Christmas quite like those two. Am I right?

By the way for those of you looking to purchase tickets to either of these two shows you are in luck. We sell them. Well that and every show both On and Off Broadway. You know what? I almost forgot. There is another classic that will be playing in New York this holiday season. Care to guess which one? Well it features such characters like the Sugar Plum Fairy and Dewdrop. No it's not The Book of Mormon. It's The Nutcracker and it has been playing in New York during the holidays since it first premiered in 1954. That's sixty years for you mathematicians out there. So there you have it folks. Three great shows that will make this year's holiday one that you will never forget. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

Wow! Has is really been two weeks since my last customer story? Now to be honest I have been a little busy. Besides helping all of our wonderful customers I have been busy putting the finishing touches on our upcoming Fall/Winter Newsletter as well as trying to rebook everyone who had tickets for Rocky and Bullets Over Broadway. Let's hope that is the end of the show closings for the time being. Anyway back to my customer story. This past Sunday I received a call from one of our regular customers who was looking for tickets to see Pippin. Good choice I thought as it is a great show and perfect for all ages. So anyway after finding out what they wanted to see I asked her how many seats she needed and more importantly when they wanted to go. Well as it turns out they needed twenty-two tickets. Not only that but they wanted to go two days after Thanksgiving. Luckily for them they were booking well in advance so I told them I didn't think it would be a problem getting them excellent seats. When all was said and done I was able to get them great seats in the Center Mezzanine. Not only that but because she ordered so many I gave her a group discount and waved the shipping fee. Let's just say that I made her day. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Broadway Production Of Hedwig and the Angry Inch Recoups Investment

Well that was fast. Although I guess we shouldn't be too shocked as the show has a big star in Neil Patrick Harris and in case you didn't know is pretty freakin' awesome. Am I right? Hedwig and the Angry Inch which opened to rave reviews on April 22 and won four Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival of the Year has returned it's entire five million dollar investment in fifteen weeks. Pretty good for a show that has never been on Broadway before and first premiered Off-Broadway over sixteen years ago. Now for those of you who still haven't seen the show you can still get tickets. Just be advised that Mr. Harris will play his final performance on August 17 so if you want to see him you better make your plans now as time is running out. Get your tickets to see Hedwig and the Angry Inch at the Belasco Theatre on Broadway. Until next time theatre fans.

Rocky To Close On August 17

Poor Rocky. I guess his flying days are over. Sorry. I couldn't resist. Now believe it or not but I am sad to see the show go. I actually enjoyed it. Of course being a fan of the movie I knew I would probably like it. Plus it was a pretty easy sell to people who wanted something a little different and that wouldn't cost them an arm an a leg. Oh well. I guess there is always Mamma Mia and The Phantom of the Opera. I for one thought the show would have hung on at least until the end of the year but what do I know? I had predicted that Bullets Over Broadway was going to sweep the Tony Awards and it didn't even get nominated for Best Musical. Oh well. I've been wrong before and I'm sure I will be wrong again. When it closes on August 17 the show will have played a total of 216 performances. "Adrian our show is closing!" Sorry. One more for the road. Goodbye Mr. Balboa. You will be missed. Until next time theatre fans.

See Broadway's Matilda For Less This Summer

Let me just start off by saying that when Matilda was first announced that it was coming to Broadway I didn't think that I was going to like it. After all it had so much hype behind it which usually turns me off. It's the same reason that I never got around to seeing The Producers and it is also the same reason why I avoided seeing Jersey Boys and Billy Elliot for several years. Now of course I ended up loving both of those so there you go. Therefore I decided to give in and see Matilda. Who knows? I might end up liking it. Plus the tickets were free and I would be stupid to turn down free tickets. After all if it sucked I could always leave after the first act right?

So there I sat in a crowded theatre on a Saturday night waiting for the show to begin. Not only that but the theatre was full of kids which of course made me want to stay even more. I'm just kidding. Or am I? Anyway I won't hold you in suspense. I loved the show. In fact I would say it's probably one of the best shows that I have ever seen on Broadway. Which is why you should see it and why I wrote this blog. That's right. You can now see this Tony Award winning musical at prices that can't be beat. Now be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru August 31 it is for select seats and as always subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Matilda on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre. You will love it.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the "Buckeye State". That's right. I am talking about Ohio. Last week I received a call from one of our regular travel agent's who's client was planning a trip to New York in October and wanted to see a few shows while they were here. Nothing like planning ahead right? So anyway after finding out when they would be here I asked them what they wanted to see. Their choices were Pippin, Kinky Boots and The Book of Mormon. Well would you look at that? All Tony Award winning shows. Now because it was a holiday weekend (Yom Kippur) they were hoping that a lot of shows would not be sold out.

They were right. However because they were only going to be here for two days they were going to have to see two shows on Saturday. I suggested that if her client wanted the best seats than they should see The Book of Mormon on Friday and Kinky Boots on Saturday afternoon as not only would the seats probably better but also the price. Luckily for them they agreed with me.  Plus by sitting a little further back for Pippin I was able to get them a lower price as well. So there you have it folks. Three great shows and like always great prices to boot. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

The Elephant Man Starring Bradley Cooper Delayed

Now before you all start to panic you can rest easy because The Elephant Man is still scheduled to open on Broadway this season. It's just that it is starting a few weeks later. Let me guess. You were all afraid you weren't going to get to see Bradley Cooper on stage now didn't you? The show which was originally scheduled to begin previews at the Booth Theatre has been delayed until November 7 due to scheduling conflicts. Now because of the that the show will now play thru February 15 instead of January 18. That means you've got a little more time to see one of Hollywood's biggest stars on the Great White Way. Tickets for the show are now on sale and to no one's surprise are flying out the door. Don't miss your chance to see what is sure to be one of this season's biggest hits. Get your tickets to see Bradley Cooper in The Elephant Man at the Booth Theatre on Broadway. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from "Down Under". Yes that's right. I am talking about Australia. A couple of hours ago I had a very nice lady who strolled into our office looking for theatre tickets. Let me guess. You thought the only way you could purchase tickets with our company was over the phone or thru the website. Well that's true for the most part. However we do have an office in Times Square where people can walk right up and purchase tickets to Broadway shows as well as every other event in New York City. Who knew?

Now normally I would ask her how she heard about us but I knew right away. She had the New York Pass. By the way for those of you who are not familiar with it, it is a great program that provides discounts for over one hundred events and places in New York including theatre tickets. Which of course is why she was in my office. I asked her how long she would be here and she told me she would be here for the next three weeks. Now that's what I call a long vacation. At first she wasn't sure what she wanted to see but as we continued talking she decided on Jersey Boys. Good choice I think. But she wasn't done. Not by a long shot my friends.

In fact by the time we had finished almost forty-five minutes later she had purchased ticket's to a total of seven shows. Good thing she's going to be here for awhile isn't it? The other shows she picked were Mamma Mia, Motown, Rocky, Matilda, Beautiful and Once. Quite a nice variety of shows don't you think? Plus because she had the New York Pass she ended up getting all of them for less than our normal rate and even less than what it would be if she walked to the theatre herself. So there you have it folks. Seven great shows with great prices to boot. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Final Performances For Two Broadway Shows

Still haven't seen Of Mice and Men? How about The Cripple of Inishmaan? Well you better get on it theatre fans because time I'm afraid is running out. Both shows which besides being extremely popular at the box office both feature stars of stage and screen. I guess that's why they are so popular right? I mean who would have thought that people would want to see James Franco and Daniel Radcliffe strut their stuff on a Broadway stage? I'm kidding of course. The only reason those shows are even playing is because of the two of them. Now for those of you who still haven't seen them there is time. Yes I know I said time is running out but you still have chance if you hurry. Of Mice and Men is scheduled to close this Sunday July 20 with The Cripple of Inishmaan set to say goodbye on July 27. Get your tickets now to see two of Hollywood's biggest stars on Broadway. Until next time theatre fans.

New Broadway Revival Of The King and I To Open On Broadway Next Spring

That's right theatre fans. One of the theatre's most beloved shows of all time is heading to the Great White Way. The King and I which was last seen on Broadway in 1998 is set to being previews at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre on March 12 with opening night scheduled for April 16. The show which is being directed by Tony winner Bartlett Sher (South Pacific, The Bridges of Madison County) is set to star five-time Tony nominee Kelli O'Hara as Anna Leonowens and Academy Award nominee Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai). With casting like that I would say they are off to a good start wouldn't you? Now while I have I have always enjoyed the works of Rodgers and Hammerstein I have to say out of all the shows The King and I is probably my favorite. As of now an on sale date has not been announced but I would expect it in the coming months. Make sure to check back here when it does as we will be selling it. Get your tickets to see The King and I on Broadway at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre on Broadway. I can't wait.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from our neighbors across the river. That's right. I am talking about New Jersey. Bloomfield to be exact. Over the weekend I received a call from a travel agent who's client was heading over to London at the end of the month and wanted to see a couple of shows while they were there. Now the knew they wanted to see The Book of Mormon which like here in New York is one of Broadway's most popular shows. Anyway after a little research I was able to find them six seats together in the Orchestra. One show down. I asked the agent if they would like to see anything else and she told me that they would like to see Shakespeare as well if available. Luckily for them Two Gentleman of Verona was playing while they were there. Unfortunately they didn't have six seats together. Oh well. You can't talk during the show anyway right? Plus I got them for a much lower rate than they were expecting. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?
