Christmas Is Only Days Away

Where or where has the time gone? It seems like only yesterday that I was having turkey and stuffing at my friend's Todd's house and here we are ready to celebrate Christmas. Now for those of you last minute shoppers out there I have the perfect gift for the theatre lover in your life. That's right. An Applause Gift Certificate. It's the gift that keeps on giving all year long. You pick the amount and we do the rest. It's that easy. Plus our gift certificates are good for any show or event in New York as well as London and Nationwide. Not only that but most of the shows that we offer are available at prices that are lower than if you walked up to the box office yourself. How can you beat that? Don't forget that Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all your ticket needs. Happy Holidays!

Orchestra vs Front Mezzanine

That's right theatre fans. It's time for the great debate. Where is the best place to sit when seeing a Broadway show? Having been in the ticket selling business for over a decade now I have sold tickets to people from all walks of life. From travel agents to regular people who are coming to New York to experience the magic that is live theatre. Now when I first started at Applause the most popular show on Broadway was Wicked. Here we are eight years later and guess what show is Broadway's biggest seller? That's right. Still Wicked. Yes I know The Book of Mormon is hot but as far as ticket sales go Wicked remains number one. Of course being one of the biggest theatres on the Great White Way certainly helps. Now in all the years that I have been going to the theatre my favorite place to sit is the Front Mezzanine. Even for plays. Oh sure for a musical the Mezzanine would be the best place as you get a much better overall view. Plus you are elevated. I can't tell you how many people call and say " I only sit in the Orchestra" or " I will only sit in the first ten rows". Well what people seem to forget that in most Broadway theatres the first twelve to fifteen rows are all on the same level.

Therefore if you want to spend two or three hundred dollars to see the back of someones head then be my guest. Now having said that there are occasions when I do like to be in the Orchestra. One of my first shows was Death and the Maiden. There I was sitting five rows away from three of my favorite actor's. Glenn Close, Gene Hackman, and Richard Dreyfuss. Now that is a trio. There is just something so thrilling about being so close to the actor's. Plus it really makes you feel like you are part of the show. Who doesn't love that? Now when I finally got around to seeing Jersey Boys a few years ago guess where I was sitting? The Mezzanine of course. However it wasn't the Front Mezzanine. It was the Rear Mezzanine. Not only that but it was the very last row on the extreme side. Guess how much of the show I missed? Not one second. See even Rear Mezzanine can be good. Plus the prices are lower than an Orchestra or Front Mezzanine seat. Even better right? So the next time you are shopping for tickets just remember it doesn't matter whether you are in the first row of the Orchestra or the last row of the Mezzanine. There is nothing in the world like seeing a Broadway show. It is an experiences that you will never forget.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Louisiana. Shreveport to be exact. Earlier last week I received a call from a very sweet lady who was planning a trip to New York with her two friends next year and wanted to see a couple of shows while they were here. I asked her what they wanted to see and her two choices were Wicked and Mary Poppins.

Now while Wicked remains Broadway's top selling show I didn't think it would be a problem as she picked a Tuesday night and it wasn't during a busy time of the year. After a little digging around I was able to find her and her friends excellent seats in the Front Mezzanine on the Center aisle which by the way is the best view for that show. Yes I know some people like the Orchestra but I'm a Mezzanine man. Always have been.

One show down. One more to go. Now those of you who read my blogs know I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world. Having said that I did enjoy Mary Poppins. After all it was one of my favorite films growing up. When all was said and done I was able to get her very nice seats on the Front Mezzanine and for less than she was expecting. Not only that but I was able to help her find a restaurant to eat at while they were here. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Shopping This Holiday Season

Christmas is here. Christmas is here. Are you excited as I am? Who doesn't love the holidays? Let me guess. You've finished all of your shopping right? I would hope so considering Christmas is less than a week away. Well ten days if you want to be technical. Now I of course finished up my shopping a few weeks ago. I take that back. I do have a few last minute things to pick up tomorrow. And by pick up I mean going on to Amazon.com and taking out the old credit card. Thank goodness for the Internet. Where would we be without it?

For those of you last minute shoppers out there you still have some time left. I know shopping can be a stressful time. It doesn't have to be. You just have to know where to look. Same with buying theatre tickets. There are hundreds of companies out there that you can call. Applause just happens to be one of many. Now we all know that theatre tickets can be expensive. Look at The Book of Mormon. The average ticket price for that show is $300 or more and that's for Rear Mezzanine seats.

Yes I know it is a small theatre but that is a lot to sit in the back. Thankfully not all shows are that much. Most shows believe it or not are available at low prices. Sure this time of the year maybe not but come January and February a large number of shows will be available at prices that are lower then other times of the year. Who doesn't love a bargain? I know I do. So when shopping this holiday season remembe to shop take your time. Shop around and find the deal that works best for you. It's your money after all. Until next time theatre fans.

On A Clear Day You Can See Forever Reviews

Well theatre fans the reviews are in and unfortunately they are not the greatest. On A Clear Day You Can See Forever starring Tony nominee and Grammy winner Harry Connick Jr. opened last night at the St. James Theatre. Now while the show does have a sizeable advance I'm guessing most of those are groups who I'm sure won't be too thrilled to see the show now based on those reviews. People may love Harry but he's no Hugh Jackman. Plus starring in a boring show certainly won't help. Enjoy.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Indiana. Lafayette to be exact. Last Monday I received a call from a travel agent whose client was coming to New York and wanted to see a couple of shows while her and her husband were here. I take that back. She wanted to see four shows in total. Her choices? On A Clear Day You Can See Forever, War Horse, Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark, and The Phantom of the Opera. Now out of all four shows I figured the only one that might be difficult was War Horse due to the fact that it is still the hottest play on Broadway. Yes I know The Book of Mormon is hot too but that is a musical.

I asked her when they would be here and she told me the last week in January. It was then that I realized that not only would I be able to get great seats for War Horse as well as the other shows for a low price. Why you ask? Because as most people in the industry will tell you January and February are very slow months. That means great savings on shows and better seats as well. When I was said and done I was able to get excellent seats for all four shows and all of them for less than she was expecting. Including War Horse. So there you have it folks. Four shows at prices that can't be beat. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

So here I sit in front of my computer on a cold but tolerable Saturday afternoon trying to figure out what to write about. I guess I could write about my favorite new show Bonnie and Clyde. Alas I think the show is going to be closing soon. Now mind you that is not confirmed. However with the recent announcement that all sales have been suspended past December 30 it's safe to assume that Frank Wildhorn's latest creation will not be around much longer. Now while I usually agree with the critic's I don't agree when it comes to this one. Is it perfect? No. Does it have good music and appealing cast? Yes. Was I bored at all during the show? Not at all. I found the show entertaining, engaging, and all and all it was a great night in the theatre. Isn't that what counts? I think so. Believe it or not but the critics don't know everything. After all Wicked didn't get the greatest reviews and eight years later it is still the top grossing show on Broadway. I rest my case.

Ways To Save On Theatre Tickets In New York

Thanks to our friends at McDonald's the words small. medium, and large have been a part of America's vocabulary for over thirty years. Here at Applause Theatre Service we too believe in the same old formula. Now the good thing is when you buy from us you don't have to worry about counting calories. Having worked in the ticket business for over a decade I can honestly say that one of the biggest complaints or comments is the rising prices of theatre tickets. The truth is that most people can't afford to pay $300 or $400 a ticket let alone $180. Well guess what? Now you don't have too. Believe it or not but it's not necessary to add another mortgage to your house or sell a kidney in order to enjoy a nice evening out with your family. All you have to do is call one of the friendly ticket experts at Applause a call and ask us how you can see your favorite show for less. It's that easy. Also don't forget that Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year including all major holidays. That means we are always here to help with all your ticket needs. That's what we do.

New York Theatre

Support Broadway. Now that I got out of the way let me tell you why. Let' me start off by saying that no matter what the pundits may say Broadway isn't going anywhere. At least not in the near future. I take that back. Theatre in any form will always be around. Whether it's a two thousand seat house or a fifty seat black box theatre in the Village theatre in New York will always be around. Having said that we all know that the cost to mount a show on Broadway is not cheap. That's probably why the cost of a ticket continues to go up year after year. We can thank Spider-Man for that. Yes I know that ticket prices have been going up for years. I am just using them as an example. Maybe if shows had a smaller budget they would be able to lower the price of the ticket. I'm not holding my breath. Now the good news is that it doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg to see a show. There are ways to see your favorites for less. You just have to know where to look. After all it's your money. Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway's Most "Popular" Show Since 2003 Is Wicked

Has it really been eight years since Wicked opened on Broadway? I'll admit that when I saw the show I never thought it would become the hit show that it has become. Now that doesn't mean I didn't like it. I thought it was a very well produced show with catchy tunes and a dynamic cast. However after the reviews came out I wasn't sure how long it would last. Not too mention the fact that at 1,800 seats it would need to sell a lot of tickets week after week to make it's money back. Well it looks like reviews aren't everything as Wicked remains Broadway's highest grossing show since it opened in October 2003. Take that critics. Now while Wicked maybe be Broadway's top grossing shows that doesn't mean you can't get tickets to see it. I fact if you call now we can get you tickets for whenever you want. Need tickets for a Saturday night? What about tickets for Christmas or New Year's week? You want them. We got them. Now what if you want to see Wicked but don't want to come to New York to do it? Good news. Not only do we sell tickets for Wicked in New York but London and every city in between. That's what we do. Get your tickets to see Wicked on Broadway or at a city near you. Until next time theatre fans.

Buying Group Tickets

Now while the majority of our sales come from individuals and travel agents we do sell group tickets as well. As a matter of fact in the last month or so we have seen an increase in the number of people buying group tickets for various shows. From school groups to travel agents booking multiple shows Applause sells it all and then some. Need forty tickets for Wicked next Summer? No problem. How about tickets to Mamma Mia or The Phantom of the Opera for less then it's normal retail price? We can offer that too. Not only do we sell every event in New York but all shows and events in London as well as all major cities in the United States. How many companies do you know that offer that kind of service? Not too many my friends. Don't forget that Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all your ticket needs. That's what we do.

Now Is The Best Time To Visit New York And See A Show

Let's face facts. We all know you are coming to New York City to see a show. I mean why else would you be on this website? Now the big question is what do you want to see while you are here? Well I guess you could get tickets to Wicked or The Lion King. Don't get me wrong. Those are two great shows not too mention two if the most successful shows in Broadway history. What about The Book of Mormon or War Horse.? Once again two very good choices although a little more expensive then most. What's a few hundred dollars right? That's per ticket by the way just in case you were wondering.

Yes we all know theatre tickets can be expensive. What isn't nowadays? It is the holiday season after all. You want the best you have to pay for it. That's true in anything in life. Now believe it or not but there are ways to see a show without having to mortgage your house. Between now and the end of February there are over forty-five shows that you can see for less. Excluding the week of Christmas to New Years of course. Trust me my friends. There is nothing better then theatre in New York. It is an experience that you will stay with you for the rest of your life. Live theatre. There is nothing like it.

Off-Broadway And Applause Theatre Service

Now as we all all know when most people hear the term "theatre in New York" the first that comes to mind is Broadway. Makes sense right? After all Broadway is one of the things that New York is most famous for after all. Well that and the Statue of Liberty. Now while I'm sure most people have heard of Off-Broadway most people think of it as small but obscure theatres downtown or just off Broadway.

I guess that's where the term comes from. Now for those of you who want want a definition wikipedia defines "Off-Broadway as a professional venue in New York City with a seating capacity between 100 and 499, and for a specific production of a play, musical or revue that appears in such a venue, and which adheres to related trade union and other contracts. These theatres are smaller than Broadway theatres."

Sounds about right to me.As I write this there are currently one hundred and eighty-seven shows scheduled to play at different theatres this month alone and that does not include ones deemed as Off-Off Broadway. Don't even get me started on that list. That would take all day. That's what makes New York great. There truly is something for everybody. So whether you are here for just a visit or if you are like me and live here full time do yourself a favor. Go see a an Off-Broadway show. Who knows? You might even enjoy yourself. Until next time theatre fans.

The Phantom Of The Opera Winter Sale

Still haven't seen The Phantom Of The Opera yet? Well what are you waiting for people? It's only been playing around the world for twenty-five years. The show which first opened on Broadway in January 1988 remains of Broadway's most popular shows of all time. Now while I enjoyed the show when I saw it for the first time back in 1993 I still can't believe it that is still here after all these years. What can I say? People are suckers for a romantic story. No matter who they are or what they look like. Do I think Phantom will last forever?

Who knows. One thing for sure is that we will still be talking about the show years from now even after it finally closes. Now I know you didn't come here for a history lesson on the show. You came to get information on how you can see it for less. Good seats are now available. Not only that but if you call right now you can get tickets to see this Tony winning musical for prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru March 10,2012 it is not valid for Saturday evening performances and subject to availability. Get your tickets to see The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. It is theatre at it's best.

Get Tickets To See Broadway's Sister Act For Below Face Value This Winter

You've seen the movie. Now see the show. Sister Act which is based on the hit 1991 film of the same name is now available at some amazing prices. The show which opened at the Broadway Theatre in March of this year is a definite crowd pleaser and hopefully will run for a very long time to come. I loved the show and I always tell people if The Book of Mormon hadn't opened during the same season that Sister Act would have been the big winner at this year's Tony Awards. I guess we will never know. Tickets for the show are now on sale thru November 2012. Plus if you call now you can get tickets to see the show for below face value. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru March 4, 2012 it does not begin until January 1 and is subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Sister Act on Broadway. You will love it.

New Musical Once To Transfer To Broadway In February

Finally a new musical on Broadway that's not based on a movie or cartoon. Not so fast. Now I don't have anything against Once the new muscial based on the 2006 Academy Award winning movie. The truth is I've never seen it. Although it does sound interesting.

So does the show. Previews for the show which just opened last night to rave reviews will begin performances at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on February 28, 2012 with opening night set for March 18, 2012 Tickets for the show are now on sale. Until next time theatre fans.

Final Weeks For Broadway's Billy Elliot

That's right theatre fans. You've only got five more weeks to see one of Broadway's most beloved shows. Billy Elliot which won ten 2009 Tony Awards including Best Musical of the Year will play it's final performance at the Imperial Theatre on January 8, 2012. When it closes it will have played a total of 40 previews and 1,304 regular performances. Believe it or not but when the show first opened I didn't want to see it. I had never seen the movie and quite frankly it just didn't seem like my top of show. Maybe it was too British for my tastes or maybe a story about a make ballet dancer just didn't sound like something that would interest me. Either way I avoided the show. That was until a few months ago.

Being in the industry that I am we often get invited to all the shows. Now mind you that is for the newer shows. Not ones that have been playing for almost three years. Anyway we were invited again as the show had made some recent changes in order to make the show a little more family friendly. Well long story short I loved the show. Of course wouldn't you know it but they announced the show would be closing a couple of weeks later. Just when I finally found a great show to recommend to people they decided to up and close. Oh well. I guess I will have to suggest something else. Any suggestions? Get your tickets to see Billy Elliot on Broadway. Time is running out.

Still haven't seen this years Tony Award winner for Best Play? Well there is no better time the present. Not only that but at prices that can't be beat.War Horse which won five 2011 Tony Awards first premiered in October 2007 at the Royal National Theatre before transferring to the New London Theatre where it remains one of London's most popular shows. The Broadway production which opened in April of this year is not only one of Broadway's top selling shows but one of the most successful plays in Broadway history. Not only that but the move version is set to open this Christmas Day directed by Academy Award winning director Steven Spielberg. See the show live or see it on the big screen. Shopping For The Holidays

The holidays are here my friends and you know what that means don't you? Time to go shopping. Now if you are like me you don't want to go within one hundred feet of a shopping mall. Thank goodness for the Internet.Where would we be without it? Pulling our hair out surrounded by a thousand fellow crazy shoppers on a Saturday afternoon. That's where we would be. Who needs that? Thanks to the touch of our mouse we don't have too. Plus what better to show the theatregoer in your life how much you care then by getting them tickets to their favorite show? Better yet why not get them a gift certificate and they can choose the show themselves? Sounds like a win-win situation to me. Now we all know that buying tickets can be expensive. The good thing is it doesn't have to be. Right now there are between forty-fifty shows both On and Off Broadway that you can see for below face value. Who doesn't love a bargain? I know I do. Happy Holidays!

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Belmont, Massachusetts. Earlier last week I received a call from a travel agent who wanted to know if we sold tickets to events in Las Vegas. Now while we are known for selling tickets to both Broadway and Off-Broadway shows we do sell tickets for other places such as London as well as all cities in the United States. We do it all.

Therefore I knew not only would I be able to get her client's tickets for Las Vegas but at prices lower than she could probably get anywhere else. I asked her what they wanted to see and she told me Cirque Du Soleil Ka and The Lion King.

Now while both are two of the most popular shows I was sure that I would be able to get her client seats for both. After a little research I was able to find them excellent seats for less than they were expecting and mailed them out the same day. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Christmas Is Coming

Can you believe that Christmas is three weeks away? I sure can't. It seems like it was only yesterday that I was celebrating the Fourth of July with my friends and here we are about to celebrate the holidays within a matter of days. Twenty one days I guess if you want to be technical. What better way to celebrate the holidays then by coming to New York and seeing a show. It is what New York is famous for after all. Well that and the New York Yankees and the Statue of Liberty. Having lived here for almost twenty years I can tell you that there is nothing better than seeing a Broadway show. Now don't forget Off-Broadway too. Some of the most innovative and creative shows of the past decade have come from Broadway's little brother. Maybe theatre isn't your thing. How about tickets to see the New York Knicks on Christmas Day? That's how I would spend my holiday if I was here. Oh well. Family does come first. That's the great thing about New York. So many choices. Which one will you choose? Happy Holidays everyone.

Tickets For Broadway Revival Of Jesus Christ Superstar Now On Sale

I'll admit that when they announced that Jesus Christ Superstar would be returning to Broadway in March I wasn't too excited. After all the 2000 revival left a bad taste in my mouth. To be perfectly honest it was one of the worst shows that I have seen in all the years that I have lived here. That includes Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark. Having said that this new production to be directed by two-time winner Des McAnuff received rave reviews as well as the stamp of approval from Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber himself. Does that make me want to see the show now? Maybe. I do love the music and if anyone can pull it off it is Des McAnuff. Previews are set to begin at the Neil Simon Theatre on March 1, 2012 with opening night scheduled for March 22 which will also mark Andrew Lloyd Webber's 64th birthday. I'm guessing good reviews is on his wish list. Get your tickets to see Jesus Christ Superstar. Who knows? Maybe I'll see you there. Until next time theater fans.
