New Play Bernhardt/Hamlet To Begin Previews Tonight On Broadway

Bernhardt HamletRaise your hand if you can name the first woman to perform the role of Hamlet? Well if you guessed Sarah Siddons, then your hand should be raised high in the air. Now, can you name the first woman to play Hamlet on film?

If you guessed Sarah Bernhardt, then you would be right once again theatre fans.Which brings me to the topic of today's blog. Bernhardt/Hamlet, a new play by Theresa Rebeck (Seminar, Dead Accounts), is set to begin previews at the American Airlines Theatre on August 31, with opening night scheduled for September 25.

As of now, the show is set to close on November 18, but with all Roundabout Theatre shows, it will probably extend a week or two if the reviews are good.Starring Tony Award winner and Academy Award nominee Janet McTeer (A Doll's House, Albert Nobbs), Bernhardt/Hamlet takes place in 1899 where the acclaimed actress prepares to take on her most challenging role to date.

Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark. Directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel (Present Laughter, Hand To God), Bernhardt/Hamlet stars Tony Award nominee Dylan Baker (The Front Page), Jason Bartlet Harner (The Crucible), Mathew Saldivar (Junk), Nick Westrate (Tribes), Paxton Whitehead (The Importance of Being Ernest), Ito Aghayere (Familliar), Brittany Bradford (For Colored Girls), Aaron Costa Ganis (House of Cards), and Triney Sandoval (Marvin's Room).

By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see the show, you are in luck. We sell it. Plus if you call now, you can get tickets to see the show at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru September 30, it is for select seats only, and as always subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Janet McTeer In Bernhardt/Hamlet on Broadway at the American Airlines Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

HamiltonNow believe it or not, but it has been almost two months since my last customer story. What can I say except there has been a lot of exciting theatre news to write about lately. Anyway today's customer story comes all the way from the "Sunshine State". That's right I am talking about the great state of Florida.

Last week, I received a call from a travel agent who's client was visiting New York in a few weeks, and wanted to see a show while they were here. Their choice? Why none other than one of Broadway's hottest shows of all time. Care to take a guess? Well if you guessed Hamilton, than you would be right.

So anyway after finding out when they would be here, I asked them where they wanted to sit, and more importantly how much they wanted to spend. After all, Hamilton is not cheap. After a little research, I found two box seats in the Mezzanine for a little over eight hundred dollars a piece.

Now the only thing about the seats, is that the seats are marked partial view. I know what you are thinking. Why on earth would anybody spend all that money to see half the show. First of all, it is not half the show. It's actually only about five to ten percent of the show, which is really not much at all. In the end, you basically only miss an entrance or two depending on what side you are seated on. Plot wise, you don't miss anything. See? It's not as bad as you thought. So there you have it folks. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Pulitzer Prize And Tony Award Winner Neil Simon Passes Away

Neil SimonOne of the first plays I ever read, was Neil Simon's I Ought To Be In Pictures. I must have read it about a half a dozen times in high school. Following graduation, I moved to New York City to pursue my dream of being an actor.

And wouldn't you know it but on my second day here, I saw my very first Broadway show. Care to guess what it was? Why none other than Lost In Yonkers, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner for Best Play of the Year.

What a perfect way to start my new life in the Big Apple. Since that time, I must have seen or read over a dozen of Neil Simon's plays and musicals, including the revival of The Odd Couple starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, and Little Me starring Martin Short in his Tony Award winning performance.

Neil Simon has been a part of my life for almost thirty years, and I have no doubt that his work will continue to entertain theatergoers around the world for years to come. It was also announced yesterday that on Wednesday, all of the Broadway theatre marquees will dim for one minute beginning at 6:45pm. Mr. Simon, you will be missed.

Temptations Musical Ain't Too Proud Headed To The Great White Way

Let me just start off by saying that The Temptations are my favorite group of all time. That's right. I said it. Of all time. So when I heard that a musical about them was in the works, I was not as excited as you might think.

Yes they are my favorite band. And yes I loved Motown: The Musical which featured them, along with Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, and The Jackson 5 among others. Therefore, I know you are probably wondering about my hesitation.

The truth is, that as much as I loved Motown, I wasn't thrilled with the way they were presented in the show. For one thing, they were barely in it. Of course with Barry Gordy as the author, I should have known going in that the show would focus more on him, and his relationship with Diana Ross. It did. Now we all know that when it comes to "Jukebox Musicals", they are usually hit or miss. The truth is, for every Beautiful and Jersey Boys, there is Good Vibrations and All Shook Up.

However after doing a little more research on this new production, I am beginning to feel a little more confident. Why you ask? Well for starters, Des McAnuff and Sergio Trujillo, the creative team between the Tony Award winning production of Jersey Boys, are taking the reins once again for The Temptations musical.

Not only that, but producing the show is Tom Hulce and Ira Pittleman, the producing team behind the 2007 Tony Award winner for Best Musical of the Year, Spring Awakening. Now can't you see why I am so excited? As of now, no on sale date for the Broadway production has been announced. Check this website for further updates. Get your tickets to see Ain't Too Proud on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre. I can't wait. Until next time theatre fans.

London Hit The Ferryman To Transfer To Broadway This Fall

The FerrymanExciting news theatre fans. One of London's most critically acclaimed new plays, is headed across the pond. The Ferryman, written by Jez Butterworth (Jerusalem), and directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes (Cabaret, American Beauty), is set to begin previews at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on October 2, with opening night scheduled for October 21. So what exactly is it all about? Well I'll tell you.

Set in Ireland in 1981, The Ferryman takes place at the Carney farmhouse, where the family of a former IRA activist have gathered for the annual harvest celebration and feast, when the festivities are suddenly halted by an unexpected visitor. Sounds like an interesting evening in the theatre to me. Tickets for the new play are now on sale. Not only that, but we are selling it. Oh but wait, it gets even better. Starring as Southern attorney Atticus Finch is Emmy winner and Tony Award nominee Jeff Daniels. Oh and did I mention that directing the show is Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher (Oslo, Fiddler On The Roof). Now do you see why I am so excited about seeing it?

Daniel Radcliffe To Return To Broadway In The Lifespan Of A Fact

The Lifespan of a FactWho would have thought that Harry Potter himself would end up becoming a Broadway star? And no I'm not talking about the mega hit Tony Award winner Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two. I am of course talking about actor Daniel Radcliffe, who is making his fourth appearance on the Great White Way in the last ten years.

Now here is again for the first time since 2014, where he will star in the new play in The Lifespan Of A Fact. Starring along side Mr. Radcliffe is Tony and Emmy Award winner Cherry Jones, and Emmy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Bobby Cannavale. Now besides being based on a true story, it is unique for the fact that the show is authored not by one, but three playwrights.

Jeremy Kareken, David Murrell and Gordon Farrell. Previews are set to begin at Studio 54 on September 20 with opening night scheduled for October 18. The show, which runs an hour and thirty-five minutes with no intermission is set to close on January 13. Tickets for the eagerly anticipated play are now on sale. Not only that, but we are selling it. Get your tickets to see The Lifespan Of A Fact on Broadway at Studio 54 Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway Bound Production Of Tootsie Finds A Home

Let's be honest. We all have our favorite films. I personally, have quite the list. Now my favorite movie of all time is "The Shawshank Redemption". Great movie right? After that, is "Mr. Holland's Opus", and coming in at third, is what I think is the greatest comedy of all time. Care to guess what it is theatre fans?

That's right. It's none other than Tootsie. Released in late 1982, and nominated for ten Academy Awards including Best Picture of the Year, Tootsie starred Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman as the talented, yet neurotic actor Michael Dorsey, who transforms himself into actress Dorothy Michaels. Now here we are thirty-six years later, and my favorite comedy of all time is headed to the Broadway stage.

Well not right away. First, it is making a pit stop at the Cadillac Theatre in Chicago from September 11 thru October 19. Previews for the Broadway production are set to begin a the Marquis Theatre on March 29, 2019, with opening night scheduled for April 23.

Directed by eight-time Tony Award nominee Scott Ellis (She Loves Me, 1776, You Can't Take It With You), and choreographed by Tony Award nominee Denis Jones (Holiday Inn, Honeymoon In Vegas), Tootsie stars Tony Award nominee Santino Fontana as Michael Dorsey/Dorothy Michaels, Lily Cooper as Julia Nichols (SpongeBob SquarePants), Sarah Stiles as Sandy Lester, John Behlmann as Max Van Horn, Andy Grotelueschen as Jeff Slater, Julie Halston as Rita Marshall, Tony Award winner Michael McGrath as Stan Fields, and Reg Rogers as Ron Carlisle.

Tickets for the Chicago engagement are now on sale, with tickets for the Broadway production scheduled to go on sale in the coming months. Check back here for further updates. New Musical The Prom Headed To The Great White Way

The PromShow of hands. Who here went to their Senior Prom? Sadly my hand is still at my side. Now don't feel sorry for me. It was my choice. Do I regret it? A little. But thankfully, there is a brand new musical coming to Broadway, that looks like just as fun as the real thing.

The Prom, which first premiered in 2016 at the Alliance Theatre in London, is set to begin previews at the Longacre Theatre on October 23, with opening night scheduled for November 15. Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Aladdin), The Prom tells the story of an Indiana teen who is barred from bringing her girlfriend to her high school prom, causing a group of Broadway performers to protest on her behalf.

Starring Tony Award winner Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone), and Tony nominees Christopher Seiber (Shrek), and Brooks Ashmanskas (Something Rotten), The Prom is sure to be a highlight of the Fall Broadway season. By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see the show, you have come to the right place. We sell it. In fact, we sell every new play and musical this season. Run Don't Walk To The Belasco Theatre To See Gettin' The Band Back Together

Gettin' the Band Back TogetherLast night I saw an original new musical called Gettin' The Band Back Together. Yes you heard that right. An original new musical.
