"My Fair Lady" Will Leave You Wanting to Dance All Night

My Fair LadyOn April 19th, the revival production of  My Fair Lady will open at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont theatre.

In a word, this revival is entirely charming. Smiles are in abundance throughout the audience, and not a moment is wasted during the show. If you want a classic night out at the theater, look no further.

My Fair Lady tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a poor Cockney girl who is taken in as a challenge for Professor Henry Higgins is confident he can pass Eliza off as a high-class society lady in a short amount of  time, well enough to fool even a royal.

Lauren Ambrose is the fearless leader of the cast as Eliza Doolittle. Also joining her is Henry Haddon-Paton ("Downton Abbey") as Henry Higgins, two-time Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz ("Wicked") as Alfred P. Doolittle, and Tony Award winner Dame Diana Riggs ("Game of Thrones") as Mrs. Higgins.

The excellent cast is what really sets this production above many other shows currently on Broadway. Lauren Ambrose's classically trained voice is teetering near perfection, all while seamlessly switching accents midway through the show. Fans of the movie who are are partial to Audrey Hepburn will have some difficulty deciding "Who sang it better?"

Another notable performance was that of Norbert Leo Butz as Eliza's father Alfred. Butz's rendition of  "Get Me To The Church On Time" is a crowd-pleasing favorite. The high-energy song is just what is needed, set opposite of melodies such as "I could Have Danced All Night" and "On The Street Where You Live."

The one thing I liked, but didn't love was the set design in the show. While the revolving house of Henry Higgins was very impressive, seats on the far left side of the theatre might have some difficulty seeing some parts of the action. In other scenes of the production there was a very minimalist sort of set design. While it worked for the exterior shots of the house, and the scene at Mrs. Higgins parlor, the bar set left a little bit to be desired.

Tickets for My Fair Lady are in high demand and selling fast. If you're interested in seeing this show, I suggest grabbing your tickets soon. This "loverly" show is not one to miss!

Katharine McPhee To Begin Performances Tomorrow On Broadway In Waitress

Image result for katharine mcphee waitress picsCan I just say how excited I am about this news? Yes I know it was announced almost two months ago. Doesn't mean it's still not big news theatre fans. As most of you know, Katharine McPhee first came to fame as the runner-up on the fifth season of American Idol.

Since then, she has become a gold record selling recording artist, starred in NBC's Smash, as well as her current role on CBS's Scorpion. Now, she makes her Broadway debut as Jenna in Waitress. Now do you see why I'm so excited?

By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see the show, you are in luck. We sell it. Plus if you call right now, you can get tickets to see the show at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru May 30, it is for select seats only, and as always subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Katharine McPhee in Waitress on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Who knows? You might just see me there. Until next time theatre fans.
