Back To The Future: The Musical Now Playing In London

Roger Bart plays Doc Brown, and Olly Dobson plays Marty McFly in Back to the Future: The Musical. One of my favorite movies of the 1980's was Back To The Future. In fact, I dare say it is one of my favorite movies of all time. I mean let's face it, it had everything. A great cast led by Emmy Award winner's Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, and Christopher Lloyd as Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown.

An awesome soundtrack by Huey Lewis and the News, as well as superb direction by future Academy Award winner Robert Zemeckis. Not too mention a time machine built out of one of the coolest cars of all time, the DeLorean.

I mean what's not to love right? Now I'll be honest when it comes to musical's, I've never really been a big fan of movie to stage transfers. Therefore you can imagine what I thought when they announced six years ago that they were turning one of my favorite film's into a big splashy Broadway musical.Originally, it was scheduled to open in the West End in 2015. However due to "creative differences" the show was postponed. Cut to over five years later, and the show is finally making it's London debut.

Featuring music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri and Glenn Ballard, a book by the film's original screenwriters Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, and direction by Tony Award winner John Rando, Back to the Future stars Tony Award winner Roger Bart as Doctor Emmett Brown, Olly Dobson as Marty McFly, Hugh Coles as George McFly, Rosanna Hyland as Lorraine Baines, and Cedric Neal as Goldie Wilson. By the way, for those of you want tickets to see Back To The Future you have come to the right place. We sell it. Get your tickets to see Back To The Future in London at the Manchester Opera House. Customer Story

Come From AwayToday's customer story comes all the way from the "Great White North". That's right. I am talking about Canada. Dartmouth, Nova Scotia to be exact. Yesterday, I got a call from a travel agent who's client was planning a trip to New York in June, and wanted to see a show while they were here. Their choice?

Why none other than one of Broadway's most popular shows, Come From Away. Which by the way had it's world premier in Oakville, Ontario in 2013. Makes sense seeing as the show takes place in Canada. Anyway, I asked her how many tickets they needed, and as it turns out she needed twenty-one tickets.

Let me guess, you didn't know we sold group tickets did you?Well we do. Not only that, but they wanted Premium Orchestra seats for everyone. Now I know what your're thinking. Premium Orchestra? Those have got to be expensive right? Yes. Now are they Hamilton prices? Not at all. In the end, I got them great Center Orchestra seats, and at a price that was lower than they were expecting. So there you have it folks. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

The Inheritance To Close

The InheritanceNow let's be honest. Shows close all the time. That's just business. What sucks is when shows that get great reviews can't sell tickets. Well at least not enough to survive. The Inheritance, which premiered at the Young Vic Theatre in London in March 2018, where it won both the London Evening Standard Award and the Olivier Award for Best Play, will play it's final performance at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on March 15.

When it closes, it will have played forty-six previews, and one hundred and thirty-eight performances. Set in New York City following the HIV/AIDS crisis of the 80's and 90's, The Inheritance stars Tony Goldwyn, Andrew Burnap, Samuel H. Levine, and Kyle Soller, who starred in the London production.

Joining them are two-time Tony Award nominee Lois Smith, Jordan Barbour, Jonathan Burke. Darryl Gene Daughtry Jr., Dylan Frederick, Kyle Harris, Carson McCalley, Arturo Luis Soria, Ryan M.Buggle, and Tre Ryder. Now for those of you who want tickets to see The Inheritance, you have come to the right place. We sell it. Plus if you call now, you can get tickets to both parts at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru March 13, it is for select seats only, and as always subject to availability. West Side Story Reviews

West Side StoryThat's right theatre fans. It's that time again. Time to celebrate another show opening on the Great White Way. Last night, the highly anticipated, yet controversial production of West Side Story opened at the Broadway Theatre.

The show, which is being directed by Tony Award winner Ivan Van Hove, began previews at the Broadway Theatre on December 10.Now I know what you're thinking. Two months of previews for a show that first opened over sixty years ago? Seems like a lot right?

Yes and no.For starters, this new production is a re-imagining of this iconic show, complete with new choreography, as well as a technical aspect that from what I can tell, has never been done before.

Plus due to injury by the show's leading man Isaac Powell, the show's opening night was pushed back by a couple of weeks. I guess we now know why the reason for such a long preview period huh? Which brings us to the twenty-five thousand dollar question. What did the critic's have to say? Did they love it? Did they hate it? Let's find out shall we?

New Musical Six To Begin Previews Tonight On Broadway

SIX: The Musical
I'll be honest. Except for the revival of West Side Story, and a couple of plays like The Minutes and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, I am not really that excited about the season so far. Of course I say that every season, and low and behold a show or two that was not even on my radar, ends up wowing me.

Which brings me to today's blog. Six: The Musical, is scheduled to begin performances tonight at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, with opening night set for March 12.Now except for what I have read, I don't really know a lot about it, except that it is about the six wives of Henry VII.

Oh and it looks like a Spice Girls Concert. But who didn't love the Spice Girls in the 90's? I know I did.Now if you want a little sneak peak, take a look at the musical's video on it's show page. By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see Six: The Musical, you are in luck. We sell it. In fact, we sell every new play and musical set to open this season. Get your tickets to see Six: The Musical on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Buying Group Tickets With Applause Theatre Service

The Music ManHaving been in the ticket selling business for almost twenty years now, I can honestly tell you that January is usually one of the slowest months of the year. Makes sense to me. I mean by the time New Year's Eve comes around I am spent. Both mentally, and more than that, financially.

It's also why January always has the most show closing's than any other time of the year. What can I say? Nothing last's forever. Well maybe except for The Phantom of the Opera, which will probably be here until the apocalypse.

Now having said all that, last month was pretty active. The reason why? Group tickets. In fact in the last few weeks, both of my coworkers have sold group tickets to Dear Evan Hansen, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Play That Goes Wrong, Beetlejuice, Jagged Little Pill, and The Music Man.

That's a lot of tickets my friends.Oh and just in case you were wondering, we sell group ticket to every other Broadway show as well. Off-Broadway too. Not only that, but we are open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all of your ticket needs. So why not give us a try? You'll be glad you did. Girl From The North Country Now In Previews

Girl From the North CountryNow unless you've been living under a rock for the past fifty years, I'm guessing you've heard of Bob Dylan. In fact, I dare say that most of you can probably recite a few of his songs from memory. My personal favorite is "The Hurricane".

Although I do love "Tambourine Man"as well as "The Times They Are A Changin".But enough about what I like. Girl From The North Country, which first premiered at the Old Vic Theatre in London in 2017, began previews last night at the Belasco Theatre, with opening night scheduled for March 5.

Featuring a book and direction by Tony and Olivier Award nominee Conor McPherson, Girl From The North Country takes place in Duluth, Minnesota during the height of the Great Depression, and tells the tale of the Laine family, owners of the local guesthouse, who's future is being threatened with foreclosure by the bank.

The show, which also played a critically acclaimed Off-Broadway run at the Public Theatre in 2018, will star Tony Award nominees Marc Kudisch, David Pittu, and Mare Winningham, along side Todd Almond, Jeannette BayardelleMatthew Frederick HarrisCaitlin HoulahanRobert JoyLuba MasonBen MayneTom Nelis, Colton RyanJohn SchiappaKimber Elayne SprawlRachel Sternand Chelsea Lee Williams

Believe it or not, but this is not the first Bob Dylan musical to grace the Broadway stage. In 2006, Tony Award winner Twyla Tharp premiered a new musical called The Times They Are a-Changin. Unfortunately reviews were not good, and the show closed after nine weeks. Somehow I think this show will fare a lot better. Fingers crossed.

Now for those of you who want tickets to see Girl From The North Country, you are in luck. We sell it. Plus if you call right now, you can get tickets to see the show at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru April 30, it is for select seats only, and as always subject to availability. Musical Adaptation Of Indecent Proposal To Premier This Spring

Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson, and Robert Redford in Indecent Proposal (1993)1993 was a very memorable year for me. First of all, I graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Secondly, I moved into my first real New York City apartment. Then I got cast in my first show since moving here the year before. And last but not least, I said goodbye to one of my favorite shows of all time. Cheer's. Now I know what you're thinking. What does this have to do with today's blog?

Well as I am sure most of you know, one of the stars of Cheer's is none other than Emmy Award winner and Academy Award nominee Woody Harrelson, who then went on to play the male lead in Indecent Proposal alongside Demi Moore and Academy Award winner Robert Redford. Make sense now? At the time, this was a big departure for the actor as the character of Woody Boyd was there to provide comedic relief more than anything else.

Now thanks to this film, he was transformed into a romantic leading man. That's movie magic for you. Now here we are almost twenty-seven years later, and the blockbuster film is headed to the stage. Featuring music by Dylan Schlosberg, book and lyrics by Michael Conley, and directed by Charlotte Westenra, the show will begin previews at the Southwark Theatre in London, with opening night scheduled for June 5. Now while both the film and the musical take place in Atlantic City, the couples professions are different. In the film,Woody Harrelson and Demi Moore played high school sweethearts David and Diana Murphy, who are both struggling in their chose professions. She as a real estate broker, and him as an architect.

In the stage version, he is a struggling singer songwriter named Johnny who spends most nights playing singing backup for a local singer, while his wife Rebecca works part time at the casino. Now don't worry. While the characters career choices may have changed, they are still approached by a wealthy stranger who offers her a million dollars to sleep with him. Thank goodness they kept that in right? As of now, no on sale date has been announced. Be sure to check our website for further updates. Until next time theatre fans.

Hamilton Headed To The Big Screen In 2021

HamiltonOh come on now.You knew it was going to happen eventually. It was recently announced that Hamilton, the 2016 Tony Award winner for Best Musical of the Year, is set to premier on October 15, 2021.

Featuring the original Broadway company, the show was recorded at the Richard Rodgers Theatre where it continues to play to sold out audiences eight times a week.

Now while most fans were probably hoping for a movie version of the ground breaking musical, I think releasing the stage version is the better way to go. For starters it's a whole lot cheaper.

Not to mention it could take years for the film to actually happen.I mean look at Wicked. It's been playing to packed houses for over fifteen years, and the movie is finally being released in December 2021. Here's hoping it's a hit. I can guarantee Hamilton is sure to be. Until next time theatre fans.

Off-Broadway Theatre

StompBlue Man GroupRock of AgesLet's be honest. When most people think of theatre in New York, their first thought is usually Broadway. Makes sense right? After all, it has been around since the early 1900's, with the original theatre scene beginning in New York as far back as 1750. The oldest theatre is the New Amsterdam, followed by the Lyceum and the Hudson. All three were completed in 1903.

That's a hundred and seventeen years for you mathematician's out there. Now of course, Off-Broadway has not been around that long. It actually started back in the 1950's as a response to the growing commercialism in the theatre, as well as the need to build more less expensive venues, that in turn would employ more artists. Sounds like a win win to me.

Now as much as I love Broadway, I'll admit that some of the most innovative and groundbreaking shows that I have ever seen got their start Off-Broadway. Maybe you've heard of some of them? A Chorus Line. Avenue Q, In The Heights. Spring Awakening. Fun Home. Dear Evan Hansen. Hamilton. And my personal favorite. Rent. Any of those ring a bell?

Now besides all of them getting their start Off-Broadway, they also have another thing in common. Give up? They all won the Tony Award for Best Musical of the Year. Then of course there are shows like Rock of Ages, Jersey Boys, and The Play That Goes Wrong, all of which had long runs on Broadway, then reopen later on at a smaller theatre Off-Broadway.

Rock of Ages by the way got it's start at New World Stages, where it recently returned last year.Other long running Off-Broadway shows that you might want to check out are Blue Man Group, Stomp, and Sleep No More. That's what's so great about Off-Broadway. There truly is something for everyone. Oh and did I mention that we sell tickets to each and every one of those shows that I mentioned? Well we do. Until next time Off-Broadway fans.

Disney's Aida To Return In 2021

Image result for aida broadway logoAnyone who has read any of my blogs, know that I am not exactly the biggest Disney fan in the world. So imagine my surprise back in 2000, when I sat down at the Palace Theatre to see this new musical called Aida, and loved it. Yes I said it. I loved it. Now I guess you could say I enjoyed it so much because it wasn't an animated film first.

Or maybe I just liked it because it was so good. All I know is, is that it is the only Disney musical that I saw more than once. Now hear we are twenty years later, and this award winning musical is making a comeback. The show, which features a Tony Award winning score by Elton John and Tim Rice, will launch a National tour at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse on February 4, 2021, and play thru March 7, 2021.

It was also announced that Schele Williams, who played Nehebka in the 2000 Broadway production, will direct the show, and that it will also feature a new updated book by David Henry Hwang, who co-wrote the original script with Linda Woolverton and Robert Falls. This new production will also feature choreography by Camille A. Brown, sets and costumes by Tony Award winner Bob Crowley, and lighting by Tony Award winner Natasha Katz. As of now, no other cities or cast have been announced. Be sure to check this website for further updates. Until next time theatre fans.
