Sam Shepard's Fool For Love To Make Broadway Debut Next Month

Wait a minute. You're telling me that one of the theatre's most well known plays has never been on the Great White Way? Yes theatre fans. That's what I am saying. Fool For Love, which first opened Off-Broadway in May 1983, will star Tony winner Nina Arianda and film and stage star Sam Rockwell.

The show, which also stars Emmy winner Tom Pephrey and Tony nominee Gordon Joseph Weiss, is set to begin previews at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on September 15, with opening night scheduled for October 8. Now while I have never seen a live production of the show, I have read the script. I found it to be a very complex and compelling piece of work. Therefore I have no doubt that this new production is sure to be outstanding. I mean how can it not be with a cast like that right? So what exactly is Fool For Love all about? Well for starters it takes place in the Mojave Desert, which occupies different portions of California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. That is one big desert my friends.

Two former childhood friends, turned lovers, find themselves drawn together once again in a seedy motel. I wonder what will happen? Now I guess I could tell you, but wouldn't you rather find out for yourself? By the way for those of you who are looking to purchase tickets, you are in luck. We sell it. In fact if you call right now you can get tickets to see Fool For Love for prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru December 6, it is for select seats and as always based on availability. Get your tickets to see Fool For Love on Broadway at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. Who knows? Maybe I'll see you there. Until next time theatre fans.

Final Weeks For Broadway's Mamma Mia

Mamma Mia!
That's right theatre fans. You only have two weeks left to see one of the most popular shows of all time. Mamma Mia, which first premiered in the West End prior to making it's Broadway debut in October 2001, will play it's final performance at the Winter Garden Theatre on September 13.

When it closes it will have played a total of 5,773 performances, and will be the eighth longest running show in Broadway history. Now when the show was first announced, I'm sure most people, myself included, weren't expecting it to be a hit. Then 9/11 happened, and as it turns out Mamma Mia was just what we needed.

We as a nation, and more importantly we as a city, were looking for an escape. We were looking for a reason to smile again. Mamma Mia provided that for all of us, and for that we are eternally grateful. Thanks for the memories, and thanks for reminding us that theatre can change our lives. If only for a little while. Until next time theatre fans.

London Production Of Sunny Afternoon Is A Big Fat Hit

Sunny Afternoon TicketsWinner of four 2015 Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical, is Sunny Afternoon. Based on Rock and Roll Hall of Famers The Kinks, Sunny Afternoon tells the story of their rise to musical royalty in the 60's, up to their turbulent breakup in 1996.

Now even though I wasn't even born at the height of their popularity, I have been a fan for as long as I can remember. Therefore you can imagine how excited I was when they announced they were writing a musical about them. Thankfully I wasn't the only one as the show extended prior to it's opening. Here's hoping it sticks around for a long time.

Or here's hoping it makes it was across the pond to New York so I can see it. By the way, for those of you heading over to London and want to see the show, you are in luck. We sell it. Broadway Favorite Matilda To Hit The Big Screen In 2019

MatildaGreat news theatre fans. One of Broadway's most popular shows is headed to the big screen. Matilda, which was actually a film prior to it's success in London and on the Great White Way, is coming soon to a theatre near you.

News of a potential film began in 2013. However due to a previous contract stipulation, a film version could not be released until at least six years after it's Broadway opening. Therefore the world will have to wait just a little while longer to see this fantastic musical.

It was also announced that composer/lyricist Tim Minchin is writing additional music for the film. Filming is scheduled to begin at the end of this year. Here's hoping the movie version will be just as good as the stage production. Fingers crossed. Until next time theatre fans.

All Star Cast To Open In Shuffle Along On Broadway Next Spring

Audra McDonald. Brian Stokes Mitchell. Billy Porter. Savion Glover. George C. Wolfe. Care to guess what all of these names have in common? Well besides being Tony winners, they are all part of one of this season's most highly anticipated new shows. Now to be technical the full title of the show is Shuffle Along, or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed. However for space constraints let's just call it Shuffle Along shall we?

So anyway now that you know what it's called, and who's in it, I'm guessing you might want to know a little bit about the show right? Exactly. So let's get to it. Well for starters, the show is actually based on the making of the original production of Shuffle Along that premiered on Broadway in 1921. That production ran for four hundred and eighty-four performances, and featured such future musical legends like Eubie Blake, Florence Mills, Josephine Baker, and Paul Robeson.

Not only that, but it was the first major production in more than a decade to be produced, written and performed entirely by African-Americans. Plus it was also famous for introducing the song, "I'm Just Wild About Harry", that was used by Harry Truman for his campaign anthem. Previews for the show are set to begin at the Music Box Theater on March 14, 2015, with opening night scheduled for April 21, 2015. Oh and just in case you were wondering, we here at Applause will be selling tickets for it. In fact we are selling tickets for every new show set to open this season. Who knew? Get your tickets to see Shuffle Along on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre. I don't know about you, but I think this just might be the show to give Hamilton a little competition at next year's Tony Awards. Until next time theatre fans.

Bruce Willis To Make Broadway Debut This Fall In Stephen King's Misery

Misery Tickets - BroadwayNow I don't know about you but I can't wait to see this show. Besides being a huge Stephen King fan, I am equally excited to see Bruce Willis on the Great White Way. Not to mention his co-star Laurie Metcalf. Misery, which is being adapted from the Stephen King novel by two-time Academy Award winner William Goldman, (The Princess Bride, All The President's Men) will begin previews at the Broadhurst Theatre on October 22, with opening night scheduled for November 15.

Tickets for the show just went on sale and as always we at Applause will be selling them. In fact we are selling tickets for every show both On and Off Broadway. So now that you know how to get tickets, I'm guessing you might want to know a little bit about the show right? Now my guess is that most of you are like me, and are going to the show because you have read the book, or saw the 1990 film which starred James Caan and Kathy Bates in her Oscar wining performance as Annie Wilkes.

In a nutshell, Misery is about famed romance novelist Paul Sheldon, who while travelling from Los Angeles to New York, drives off a cliff and crashes upside down in a snow bank. Shortly there after he is rescued by Annie Wilkes, a former nurse in the next town who proceeds to nurse him back to health. After confessing to Paul that she is his "Number One Fan" she obtains a copy of his latest novel, where she discovers that he has killed off her favorite character. This news upsets the already fragile and somewhat disturbed Annie. Now I guess I could tell you more, but that would ruin the surprise for those of you that are not familiar with the story. All I can tell you is that it is one crazy ride my friends. Get your tickets to see Misery on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre. Until next time thriller fans.
