The River Reviews

That''s right theatre fans. Hugh Jackman is back on Broadway. The River which opened last night at the Circle in the Square Theatre marks his first return to the Great White Way in almost three years. So how did he fair? Now the truth is it doesn't really matter what the critic's think because the man could stand up there for two hours reading the phone book and people would still buy tickets. Anyway on to the reviews. Enjoy!

Seventeen Years And Counting The Lion King Still Rules Broadway

Wow! Has it really been that long since The Lion King opened on Broadway? I saw the show when it first came out and I can still remember how much it moved me. So whether it's your first time or your tenth there is no better time than right now to see one of Broadway's most exciting shows. Get your tickets to see The Lion King on Broadway at the Minskoff Theatre. Here's to seventeen years of great entertainment for the whole family!

Wicked On Broadway

Now in it's eleventh year on Broadway, Wicked remains one of the Great White Way's most popular shows. I saw Wicked when it first came out, and being a Wizard of Oz fanatic, I loved it. Wicked of course is based on the unlikely "friendship" of the two witches from the Land of Oz. Yes that's right. Way before Dorothy came on the scene Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch were friends. See how they drifted apart and became legends. Now while the there is no music from the original 1939 movie, the music is simply magic, including my favorite songs, "I'm Not That Girl" and "For Good". If you've already seen Wicked, treat yourself and see it again and if you haven't seen it don't miss it. Give us a call and take yourself to the Emerald City.

New Play The River Starring Hugh Jackman To Begin Performances Tonight On Broadway

That's right theatre fans. Up and coming actor and Broadway newbie Hugh Jackman  is set to begin performances tonight on Broadway in The River. O.K. I am joking of course. We all know Hugh Jackman is not only a Tony winning and Academy Award nominated actor but one of the biggest stars on the planet. The show which is scheduled to open on November 16 first premiered in the West End in 2012. Written by Jez Butterworth (Jerusalem) and directed by Ian Rickman, The River is running thru January 25 and clocks in at eighty-five minutes with no intermission. Now that's my kind of show. Why can't every show be that long? Now for those of you that are not familiar with the play here is a brief synopsis about The River from the show's official website. Enjoy! A remote cabin on the cliffs, a man and a woman, and a moonless night. Jez Butterworth's The River asks when we find each other, are we trying to recapture someone we once lost? The writer director team who brought you Jerusalem returns with a bewitching new story. Oh and in case you're wondering it is not a one man show. Mr. Jackman stars in the show with Laura Donnelly and Cush Combo. Now as you can expect tickets for the show are going fast. That doesn't mean you can't get them. You just might have to break the bank to do it. The good thing is that the theatre is so small that there isn't a bad seat in the house. Get your tickets to see The River on Broadway. Happy Halloween theatre fans!

Broadway Revival Of Side Show To Begin Performances Tonight On Broadway

That's right theatre fans. One of this seasons most highly anticipated shows is back on Broadway for the first time since it's 1997 Tony nominated production. Side Show which closed after ninety-one performances in January 1998 is based on the recent acclaimed Kennedy Center production and is being directed by Academy Award winner Bill Condon (Chicago, Dreamgirls) Previews are set to begin tonight at the St. James Theatre with opening night scheduled for November 17.

Now despite it's short run it was well received by the critics and was nominated for four 1998 Tony Awards including Best Musical of the Year. It lost that year to The Lion King which as we all know went on to become Broadway's highest grossing show of all time. Now I saw the original production and thought it was not only fascinating but quite entertaining. Let's hope this new production last's a lot longer than the previous one. Now for those of you that are not familiar with the show or the sordid tale of the Hilton sisters here is a brief synopsis about Side Show from the show's publicist. Enjoy!

Bill Condon’s new production, according to press notes, "reimagines the world of Side Show, set against the backdrop of 1920’s and 30’s show business that seamlessly blends the worlds of carnival, vaudeville, and Hollywood glamour. The musical is inspired by the "remarkable true story of the Hilton twins, Daisy and Violet, who were legends in their time and the highest paid performers on the vaudeville circuit. Side Show is their heartwarming search for first love and acceptance amidst the spectacle of fame and scrutiny under the spotlight."

Makes you want to run out right now an buy a ticket now doesn't it? Now as much I loved the last production never in a million years did I ever think that we would see it again on Broadway. Like I said hopefully this time around it will succeed. Fingers crossed. By the way for those of you that are looking to purchase tickets to see Side Show you have come to the right place. We sell it. In fact if you order now you can get tickets to see the show at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru December 21 it is for select seats and as always subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Side Show on Broadway at the St. James Theatre. Who knows? Maybe I'll see you there. Until next time theatre fans.

The Last Ship Reviews

That's right theatre fans. The Last Ship, the first new musical of the 2014-2015 season opened last night at the Neil Simon Theatre. Now I have not seen the show. To be honest it just doesn't look that interesting to me. Of course I said the same thing about Billy Elliot and I ended up loving that. Anyway enough about me. Let's see what the critics had to say about the show. Enjoy!

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Maryland. This past Sunday I received a call from a customer that was coming to New York at the end of the month and wanted to see a few shows while they were here. Yes that's right folks. We are open on Sundays. In fact we are open seven days a week. 365 days a year. How many other ticket companies do you know that do that? So anyway after finding out when she would be here I asked here what she wanted to see. Her top choice was Once. Great show I must say. Too bad it's closing. Oh well. They can't all last forever right?

Now because the show has been playing for a couple of years I knew I would have no problem getting them excellent seats. Plus because they had a New York Pass the prices were even less. What's that you say? A New York Pass? What in the devil is that? Now for those of you who aren't familiar with it the New York Pass it is an all inclusive pass that offers discounts on museums, sightseeing tours, restaurants and of course theatre tickets. Anyway when all was said and done I was able to get her great seats in the Center Front Mezzanine for less than she had seen elsewhere. So after securing her tickets for the first show I asked her what else she wanted to see. Her next choice was Pippin which won the Tony Award last year for Best Musical Revival and is one of Broadway's most exciting shows.

Once again I was able to get her great seats in the Center Front Mezzanine and for below cost. For her third and final choice I asked if she might be interested in a play. She said she would and wanted to know if I could suggest anything. Now since she was here for only a short while most of the newer plays were not starting until after she left. The three shows I suggested were The Curious Incident of the Dog In The Night Time, Disgraced, and You Can't Take It With You. In the end she decided to go with Disgraced which one the Pulitzer Prize last year for Drama. So there you have it folks. Three great shows with great seats and prices to boot. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Broadway Revival Of A Delicate Balance To Begin Previews Tonight On Broadway

That's right theatre fans. One of this season's most highly anticipated plays is back on Broadway. A Delicate Balance written by three time Tony and Pulitzer Award winning playwright Edward Albee is set to begin previews tonight at the John Golden Theatre with opening night scheduled for November 20. The play which was last seen on the Great White Way back in 1996 where it won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play is being directed by Tony winner Pam MacKinnon (Clybourne Park, Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf) and will star Tony winners Glenn Close, John Ligthow, Lindsay Duncan, and three-time Tony nominee Martha Plimpton. Rounding out the cast are Tony and Academy Award nominee Bob Balaban and Olivier Award winner and Tony nominee Claire Higgins. Now that's what I call an all-star cast. Tickets for the show are going fast so don't delay. Get your tickets to see A Delicate Balance on Broadway at the Golden Theatre thru February 22, 2015. Expect the show to be a big contender come award season. Until next time theatre fans.

It's Only A Play Reviews

Well the reviews for It's Only A Play are in and well....I think I'll just let them speak for itself. The truth is it really doesn't matter what the critic's have to say because the show is already a hit and will continue to be for the rest of it's run. Now as I mentioned in yesterday's blog tickets are available for every performance. Just be prepared to break out your wallet to get them. Now on to the reviews.

It's Only A Play To Open Tonight On Broadway

That's right theatre fans. One of this season's most highly anticipated new plays is set to open tonight on the Great White Way. Yes I know. Technically it is not a new play as it first premiered Off-Off Broadway in 1978. This production will however mark it's first time on Broadway. Plus in a way it is sort of new as playwright Terrance McNally has rewritten the play to bring it up to date.

Starring in this behind the scenes comedy are Tony winners Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Stockard Channing, as well as Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham, Emmy winner Megan Mullally, and Harry Potter star Rupert Grint. Rounding out the cast is newcomer Micah Stock. Now that's what I call an all-star cast. Now for those of you that are not familiar with the show here is a brief synopsis about It's Only A Play from the show's official website. Enjoy!

"It's opening night of Peter Austin's (Broderick) new play as he anxiously awaits to see if his show is a hit. With his career on the line, he shares his big First Night with his best friend, a television star (Lane), his fledgling producer (Mullally), his erratic leading lady (Channing), his wunderkind director, an infamous drama critic, and a wide-eyed coat check attendant on his first night in Manhattan. It’s alternately raucous, ridiculous and tender — reminding audiences why there’s no business like show business. Thank God!"

Now to no ones surprise the show is selling like crazy at the box office. That doesn't mean you can't get a ticket though. Just be prepared to break out the big bucks I'm afraid with tickets starting at over $300 or more for most dates. The good thing is that it is a very small theatre so all the seats are good. Get your tickets to see It's Only A Play at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre thru January 4. Be sure to check back here tomorrow morning to see what the critic's thought. Until next time theatre fans.

The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time Reviews

Well theatre fans the reviews are in and after looking them over it looks like The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time is a hit. Now to be honest I'm not really surprised. Even though I have yet to see this production it has been one of our biggest sellers. For London that is. Here? Not so much. That's not to say we haven't sold any tickets it's just that we tend to sell more tickets for musicals than straight plays. Who knows? Maybe with reviews like these we might just sell some more. We shall see. Now on to the reviews.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the great state of North Carolina. Greensboro to be exact. Yesterday afternoon I received a call from one of my regular clients who was planning a trip to New York and wanted to see a couple of shows while she was here. I asked her what she wanted to see and she said, "I want to see something new." Well luckily for her there are a slew of new things set to open in the coming weeks. Unfortunately most of them are plays and she wanted to see a musical.I first suggested the new revival of On The Town which got rave reviews when it played out of town last year at the Barrington Stage Company. Well as it turns out the movie was a favorite of hers growing up so it was the perfect choice.  Plus because she was going at a slow time I was able to get her excellent seats in the Front Mezzanine and at a lower rate. One show down. One to go.

Her next choice was Motown The Musical which while technically no longer new is a great show and very popular. Once again she agreed with me and once again I was able to secure her great seats in the Mezzanine for a low rate.So there you have it folks. Wait a minute. Not so fast. She wasn't done. She was planning another trip to New York in December. However this time she was bringing her granddaughter so she needed something that would be appropriate for her. Now since she had already seen The Lion King, Wicked and Aladdin I of course suggested Matilda or Cinderella. In the end she chose Cinderella which of course I got for a great rate. Then to top off her trip I got her tickets to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular for her second show. Now let's try this again. So there you have it folks. Four great shows with great seats and great prices to boot. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

New Musical The Last Ship To Begin Previews Tonight On Broadway

Another rock star writing a Broadway musical? What? U2 wasn't enough? Yes I know Cyndi Lauper scored a big hit with Kinky Boots but she is more of a pop singer than rock 'n' roll. The Last Ship which features music and lyrics by sixteen Grammy Award winner Sting and is based on the singer's childhood is set to begin previews at the Neil Simon Theatre tonight on Broadway with opening night scheduled for October 26.

Now while reviews were mixed during it's Chicago run I still expect the show to sell pretty well because well......it's Sting. The true test will be when the reviews come out on October 27. Now for those of you like me who know nothing about the show here is a brief synopsis about The Last Ship from the show's website.

Life in the English seafaring town of Wallsend has always revolved around the local shipyard, where the hardworking men of this close-knit community construct magnificent vessels with tremendous pride. But Gideon Fletcher dreams of a different future. He sets out to travel the world, leaving his life and his love behind.

When Gideon returns home fourteen years later, he finds the shipyard's future in grave danger and his childhood sweetheart engaged to someone else. As the men of Wallsend take their fate into their own hands and build a towering representation of the shared dream that has defined their existence, Gideon realizes that he left behind more than he could have ever imagined.

Could be interesting? I want to see it. Even if just to hear the music. By the for those of you that are looking to get tickets to see The Last Ship you have come to the right place. We sell them. Well that and every other show both On and Off-Broadway. Get your tickets to see The Last Ship on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

You Can't Take It With You Reviews

Well the reviews are in and I have to say they look pretty darn good. I for one am very happy about this as not only is You Can't Take It With You one of my favorite plays of all time but I loved this production. As of now the show is only scheduled to run thru January 4 but with reviews like these hopefully it will extend. Fingers crossed. Now on to the reviews.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the "Lone Star" state. That's right. I am talking about the great state of Texas. Two days ago I received a call from one of our regular travel agents. In fact this particular client of hers travels to New York around the same time every year and usually sees between two and three shows while she is here. This time around she needed tickets to see Beautiful and It's Only A Play. Both good shows don't you think? Now while I personally have not seen other show there is no denying their popularity. In fact even before It's Only A Play started previews the show racked in over eight million dollars at the box office. I guess you could say it's popular huh?

Now since they were coming to New York during one of the most popular times of the year they knew securing tickets might be a little difficult. Luckily for me they weren't picky about their seats. They just really wanted to see the show. I wish all of our clients were like that. So anyway after finding out when they would be here I set out to find them seats for both shows. After a little research I was able to get them excellent seats in the Mezzanine for both shows and at a rate that was lower than they were expecting. I guess that's why they keep coming back to us year after year. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

So here it is folks. The $64,000 question. Why do people move to New York City? Well for one it is the greatest city in the world. Yes I know I may be a little partial but it's true. Now for most like me it's to pursue a career in the arts. After all that is what I had planned to do when I moved to New York over twenty-two years ago. Now here I am all these years later still working a 9 to 5 job waiting for my big break to happen. The question is will it? You're damn right it will if I have anything to say about it.

Look everybody has a dream of what they want their life to be. It's what you do to achieve that dream is what counts. Some people take the easy way out. That's fine for them. I just won't step on any one to get ahead. Maybe if I did I would be further in my career than I am now. Or maybe I wouldn't. At least I can go to sleep at night with a clear conscious. Now I know what you are thinking. What does this have to do with theater tickets. At this moment there are hundreds of ticket companies out there who sell tickets.

Now for the most part the companies that sell these tickets are on the up and up. Sure anybody can design a website and start selling tickets. Not everybody is legitimate but that's the case in any type of business. Do we always have the best prices? For the most part yes, but there will always be somebody else out there trying to be number one. Look we may not be the biggest company in town but we do our best to give each and every customer the attention that they deserve. That's what we do here at Applause after all. I guess I'll be sleeping with a clear conscious tonight again too.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Kansas. Overland Park to be exact. Now most of the customer stories that I write usually happen either on the day the customer called or at the latest the same week. This one however occurred over three months ago. I take that back. The customer first inquired about the tickets then but didn't actually get around to purchasing then until now. I know what you're thinking. That's a pretty long time to make up your mind right? Well the reason it took so long was because she needed thirty-four tickets and she needed that time to collect everyone's money and of course make sure that in the end everybody still wanted to go. I don't envy her. I can barely take care of myself half the time so I can only imagine how difficult it would be having to keep track of thirty-four people. Oh wait. I almost forget the most important thing. What show were they seeing? No it's not The Book of Mormon or Wicked. It's Cinderella. Still a good choice don't you think? Plus because she was buying so many tickets I was not only able to get her excellent seats but also at the group rate. Not only that but because she was a travel agent she earned commission on each ticket she purchased as well. Sounds like a win-win to me. So there you have it folks. Great tickets to a great show and great prices to boot. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Today's customer story comes all the way from the great state of California. San Jose to be exact. Now believe it or not but this customer story happened on Labor Day. Yes that's right. We we're open. In fact we are open 7 days a week. 365 days a year. How many other ticket companies do you know that do that? Not too many. Now as it turns out it was a travel agent looking for tickets. However they weren't for a client but for herself. Now for those of you travel agents out there who have never used us not only do we pay commission when you order tickets for your clients but when they are for you, you as well as anyone else you bring with you get a discount.

So anyway after finding out they were for her I asked her what she wanted to see. Her first choice was A Gentleman's Guide To Love and Murder which won the Tony Award for Best Musical of the Year. Good choice don't you think? I told her that even though it's a very small theatre the Front Mezzanine is the best view. Luckily she agreed with me and I was able to get her excellent seats in the Center. Another satisfied customer. Wait a minute. Not so fast. Not more than two hours later she called back and ordered four tickets to see Jersey Boys which I got at an even better rate as the show has been playing for almost nine years. Let's try this again shall we? Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Buying Theatre Tickets The Easy Way

When it comes to buying tickets to a Broadway show there are hundreds of ticket companies out to there to choose from on the internet. Plus it can be a little confusing too. The thing is it doesn't have to be. Let's say you want tickets to see The Book of Mormon or Kinky Boots but not sure where to sit. Give us a call and not only will we tell you where is the best place to sit but we will also help you get the best prices as well. Now I'll be the first to admit that theatre tickets aren't cheap. Look we all know that the economy is not the best right now and hasn't been for the last few years. The truth is seeing a Broadway show is a luxury for most people. But that doesn't mean that it has to cost you an arm and a leg. either. You just have to know where to look. Thankfully it is now possible to get tickets to some of Broadway's most popular shows for less. In fact as we speak there are over thirty shows both On and Off-Broadway that you can now see for less. I mean who doesn't love a bargain? I know I sure do. Fall Savings are here so don't delay. Live theatre. There is nothing like it. Until next time theatre fans.

Disney's The Lion King Is Still A Must See

Now I know what you're all thinking. The guy who blogs about how much he dislikes Disney is actually writing a blog about one of their shows? Is the world coming to an end? No. The truth is no matter how I may feel about them they are here to stay. Which is why I am writing about not only their most successful musical but also one of the most successful Broadway musicals of all time. The Lion King which is of course based on the 1994 Academy Award winning film is now in it's seventeenth year on the Great White Way with no end in sight. Now while I personally have never seen the show there is no denying it's appeal to theatregoers of all ages.

Even after all these years it still continues to bring in more money week after week than any other Broadway show and that includes Wicked which has a hundred or more seats to sell. Like I said. This show isn't going anywhere. Now for those of you who still haven't seen it there is no better time than right now. Plus for those of you that don't know September as well as January and February is when not only are there more seats available but lower prices as well. I mean who says you have to break the bank to see one of Broadway's most popular shows? Get your tickets to see The Lion King on Broadway at the Minskoff Theatre. Who knows? Maybe one of these days I will actually break down and see it. Stranger things have happened. Until next time theatre fans.

Tickets Now On Sale For The 2014-2015 New York Knicks

That's right sports fans. Basketball season is almost here and I don't know about you but I am getting excited. Well that and I am a huge New York Knicks fan. Which of course is the reason for today's blog. Preseason begins on October 8 with the Knicks vs. the Celtics. Now just a couple of years ago that was a big rivalry. However with the departure of many of Boston's top players in the last couple of years it has lessened a little. Now one of the Knicks biggest rivals is the Brooklyn Nets who like the Knicks are playing for the title of New York's top team. The regular season begins on October 29 where the Knicks will head to Chicago to play the bulls. Now I wasn't a basketball fan when Michael Jordan played but that was a rivalry for the ages. By the way for those of you Knicks fans that want tickets you have come to the right place. We sell them. In fact we sell tickets to all teams in the NBA. Now the truth is if I wasn't a Knicks fan I would be a San Antonio fan. And no it's not because they are the reigning NBA Championships. I've always loved them. Just not as much as the Knicks. Get your tickets to see the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden or at an arena near you. Until next time sports fans.

Disney's The Lion King Celebrates Milestone

Yes that's right. I'm actually writing a blog about a Disney show. Surprised huh? Now for those of you have read any of my many blogs over the years know that I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world. So why am I writing about them today you ask? Slow news day perhaps? Or maybe because despite what I think of them they have continued to be one of Broadway's biggest success stories. Which is what brings me to the reason for todays' blog. The Lion King which first premiered on The Great White Way back in November 1997 will celebrate it's 7,000th performance tonight at the Minskoff  Theatre on Broadway.

Now besides being only the fourth Broadway show in history to achieve that impressive feat it is also the only show in Broadway history to sell over a billion dollars in tickets since it opened. Not bad for a show based on a cartoon. Which by the way I actually saw. I'm just full of surprises today aren't I? Now for those of you who still haven't seen the show there is no better time than the present. And for those of you who can't make it all the way to New York to see it you are in luck. The show is currently on a National Tour thru June of next year. Get your tickets to see The Lion King on Broadway or at a theatre near you. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Florida. North Miami to be exact. Yesterday I received a call from one of our regular travel agents. Except this time they weren't looking for tickets for a client but for themselves. By the way for all you travel agents out there that didn't know when you purchase tickets for yourself, you and anyone you bring with you get a discount. Talk about a great deal. So anyway after finding out when they would be here I asked her what they wanted to see. Her two choices were Matilda and Motown The Musical. Finally two shows that I have actually seen not too mention enjoy. Trust me when I say that doesn't happen very often. I'm what you call a pretty picky theatregoer.

But enough about me. After finding out what they wanted to see I asked them where they wanted to sit and of course how much they wanted to spend. Now even though they were already getting the travel agent discount I was able to save them even more because they were coming during a very slow time. Now for those of you that don't know September as well as January and February are the best times to go to the theatre as there is more availability and lower prices. Luckily for her she picked one of those times so not only did I get her great seats but at the best rate. So there you have it folks. Two great shows with great seats and prices to boot. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Disney On The Great White Way

And then there were two. That's right Disney fans. With Newsies set to close this Sunday there will only be two Disney shows on Broadway. Whatever will you do? Now let's be honest. The Lion King isn't going anywhere anytime soon. In fact the show which will celebrate it's seventeenth year on the Great White Way in just a few months continues to sell our week after week. Not too mention their other hit Aladdin which has grossed over a million dollars a week since it first premiered in March. Looks like it's not going anywhere either.

Now I 'll be the first to admit that I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world. The truth is it really doesn't matter what I think. I'm not the one buying tickets to see their shows. Although I sure am selling a lot of them. Since 1994 Disney has produced nine shows on Broadway. Some as we all know were a success like Beauty and The Beast, Mary Poppins, Aida and the aforementioned The Lion King. Then of course there is The Little Mermaid and Tarzan which to be honest were critical and financial failures. Now while those last two shows might have been good for the whole family they probably just didn't have the wide appeal that the more successful shows have.

That's probably why they didn't last very long. It just seems to me like they are running out of ideas. Dare I say they might want to consider doing something original.? I mean just because it was a hit movie doesn't necessarily mean that it will translate into big bucks at the box office. The truth is when you compare a twelve or thirteen dollar movie ticket to a Broadway ticket that is a hundred and thirty seven dollars you better make sure it's worth it. Disney has made some great movies over the years that are not animated musicals. Maybe it's time to try something new. After all The Lion King won't last forever. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes from our neighbors up North. That's right. I am talking about Canada. Yesterday afternoon I received a call from a very nice gentleman who was planning a trip to New York with his wife next week and wanted to see a show while they were here. I asked him how he found us and he told me that we were listed in the New York Pass book. Now for those of you who aren't familiar with it the New York Pass is an all inclusive pass that offers discounts on museums, sightseeing tours, restaurants and of course theatre tickets. Anyway after finding out when they would be here I asked them what they wanted to see. Their first choice was Motown. Good choice don't you think? I know I would see it again. Now because they were going during the week I told them that I should be able to get them excellent seats and at a lower rate. Plus I told them that if they sat in the Front Mezzanine it would be a better view as they would be closer to the stage with the overhang. Thankfully they took my advice and I got them great seats. Not only that but they called me back two hours later and booked Aladdin as well. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from "Sin City". No I am not talking about the movie. I'm talking about the great city of Las Vegas. Two days ago I received a call from a customer who came to us via his travel agent which suggested that he use us. You see? This is why we love agents. So anyway after finding out when he would be here I asked him what he would like to see. His two choices were On The Town and Pippin. Both revivals and both excellent choices I might add. I asked him where he wanted to sit for each show and he told me that if available he would love to get a seat as close and center as possible. I told him that since he was coming during a slow time it shouldn't be a problem not to mention the fact that he only needed one ticket. When all was said and done I was able to get him an excellent seast for both shows. Not only that but he called two days later and ordered tickets for Cabaret and this year's Tony Award winner for Best Musical A Gentleman's Guide To Love and Murder. Another satisfied customer. Academy Award Winner Helen Mirren To Star in The Audience Next Spring On Broadway

Great news theatre fans. It was just announced that Academy Award winner and two-time Tony nominee Helen Mirren will recreate her awarding performance as Queen Elizabeth II in The Audience. The show which first premiered in the West End in 2013 is set to begin previews at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on February 17 with opening night scheduled for March 8. The limited engagement will run thru June 28.

Now besides selling tickets to all shows both On and Off-Broadway we do sell every show in London as well. In fact not only was The Audience one of our biggest sellers last year but we sold almost as many tickets for that show as we did Matilda or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and those are two of the hottest shows in London. I guess you could say people like Helen Mirren huh? Now for those of you who know nothing about the show here is a brief synopsis about The Audience from the show's website. Enjoy!

"For sixty years Elizabeth II has met each of her twelve Prime Ministers in a weekly audience at Buckingham Palace. Both parties have an unspoken agreement never to repeat what is said, not even to their spouses," press notes state. "The Audience imagines a series of pivotal meetings between the Downing Street incumbents and their Queen.

From Churchill to Cameron, each Prime Minister uses these private conversations as a sounding board and a confessional — sometimes intimate, sometimes explosive. In turn, the Queen can't help but reveal her own self as she advises, consoles and, on occasion, teases. These private audiences chart the arc of the second Elizabethan Age, from the beginning of Elizabeth II's reign to today. Politicians come and go through the revolving door of electoral politics, while she remains constant, waiting to welcome her next Prime Minister."

O.K. so maybe brief wasn't the right word to describe the show. Although you have to admit it does sound interesting. Tickets for The Audience are expected to go on sale next month and I have no doubt that it will be one of the hottest selling tickets of the season. Be sure to check back here when they do. Get you tickets to see The Audience starring Helen Mirren. Expect the show to be a big contender at next years Tony Awards. Until next time theatre fans.

Revised Production Of Side Show To Open On Broadway This Fall

Can I just tell you how I excited I was when I heard that Side Show was coming back to Broadway? No I didn't start doing cartwheels in my office or jumping up and down. I think I'm a little old to be doing that. Plus I couldn't do a cartwheel to save my life. Now as most of you are aware the original production was for a better word a flop. Although it did manage to snag a few Tony nominations including Best Musical of the Year. The winner that year? The Lion King which is now in it's seventeenth year on Broadway. This new production which is set to begin previews at the St. James Theatre on October 28 is scheduled to open on November 17 and will be directed by Academy Award winning director and screenwriter Bill Condon (Chicago,Dreamgirls).

Now as much as I loved the show I never thought we would ever see it again on Broadway. Like I said it was a flop. Yet her we are almost fourteen years later and the show is coming back for a second shot at redemption. Let's hope things work out a little better this time around. Now I don't know about you but I think it has a pretty good shot of making it.  First of all they got great reviews when it played at the La Jolla Playhouse last year not too mention another production which just recently closed at the Kennedy Center in June. Plus according to the show's creative team the show now has a "darker approach and incorporates new songs as well as additional biographical details of the Hilton twins' life and historical figures of the era."

Makes you want to run out and buy a ticket right now doesn't it? Now while tickets are not on sale yet I would expect in an announcement in the coming weeks. Make sure to check back her when it does because we will be selling them. By the way for those of you that are not familiar with the show you might want to check this out. It will give you a better idea of what the show is about and you get to hear some great music at the same time. Get your tickets to see Side Show at the St. James Theatre on Broadway. Who knows? I might even see you there. Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway Revival of Love Letters To Open On Broadway This Fall

Now let me just start off by saying that I know very little about Love Letters except that it is a two person play by A.R. Gurney that first premiered over twenty-five years ago. The show which first opened in New York Off-Broadway prior to moving to Broadway the following year will make it's return to the Great White Way this fall at the Nederlander Theatre. Now we all know that the only time a revival of a play decides to come back to Broadway is because it is usually set to feature a well known television or movie star. Makes sense to me. After all big stars equals big business and when it comes to this show the producers have made sure that there are plenty of big names to go around. Love Letters is set to begin previews on September 13 with opening night scheduled for September 18. What? Only five days of previews? Well considering they are reading letters for the whole show they probably don't need a whole lot of preview time. Here is a list of the actor's who will be performing in the show along with the dates that they will be in it.

September 13-October 10
Brian Dennehy & Mia Farrow
Oct. 11-Nov. 7
Carol Burnett & Brian Dennehy

Nov. 8-Dec. 5
Alan Alda & Candice Bergen
Dec. 6, 2014-Jan. 9, 2015
Stacy Keach & Diana Rigg
Jan. 10-Feb. 1
Anjelica Huston & Martin Sheen

Quite the line up don't you think? By the way for those of you that are not familiar with the show here is a brief synopsis about the show from the play's website. back to Broadway featuring some of
Love Letters, according to press notes, is a "disarmingly funny and unforgettably emotional portrait about the powerful connection of love. Two friends, rebellious Melissa Gardner and straight-arrow Andrew Makepeace Ladd III have exchanged notes, cards and letters with each other for over 50 years. From second grade, through summer vacations, to college, and well into adulthood, they have spent a lifetime discussing their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, and victories and defeats. But long after the letters are done, the real question remains: Have they made the right choices or is the love of their life only a letter away?"

As of now the show is only on sale thru February 1 but I'm sure if reviews are good and they can keep a rotating cast of stars it could continue much longer. Sounds like a pretty sweet gig to me. Come in for a month and head off to your next project. Not to mention collecting a nice little salary for reading a bunch of letters for a couple of hours a night. Now that's what I call a dream job. Tickets are expected to go on sale in the next couple of weeks so make sure to check back here when they do. Get your tickets to see Love Letters on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the "Lone Star" state. That's right. I am talking about the great state of Texas. Lubbock to be exact. This past Friday I received a call from a travel agent who's client was heading over to London next week and wanted to see a show while he and his family were there. His first and only choice was The Book of Mormon. Perfect family show don't you think? O.K. so maybe it's not The Lion King or Wicked but you have to admit it is pretty entertaining and after all isn't that why we go to the theatre in the first place? So anyway after a little research I was able to get them some excellent seats in the Mezzanine and at a price that was lower than they had seen anywhere else. Another satisfied customer. Wait a minute. Not so fast. They weren't done.

Less than two hours later the agent called me back because they wanted to see something else. Another show perhaps? No they wanted to go to a game. Not just any game mind you but a football game featuring one of London's premier teams the Arsenal Football Club aka The Gunners. Now I know what you're thinking. I thought Applause only sold theatre tickets for London. Now while most of our tickets in London are for the theatre we do sell other events too including all major sporting events. Who knew? Anyway after contacting our regular ticket seller in London I was able to secure club seating for the event. Oh sure it was a little more than The Book of Mormon tickets but if you want the best seats then you've got to pay the big bucks. So there you have it folks. Two great events with great seats to boot. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Charity Begins At Work Too

Many of us open our mailboxes each day and find various letters from charities asking us for donations. For myself and my family, we generally sit down once a month and simply write out a check for several organizations that are in need while paying our bills. It’s easy to do and makes you feel good at the same time too. In 1987 I co-founded my own ticket agency called Applause Theatre Service in New York City. We cater to the ticket needs of consumers, hotel concierge, corporations, tour operators and travel agencies all over the world.

About nine years ago I joined an industry trade organization called NATB, which stands for the National Association of Ticket Brokers. Although I joined NATB so that I could keep my little company aware of ongoing concerns in my industry, I was amazed at how much thought was being put into charitable efforts within this organization. For the past several years I have had the pleasure of working with this group of ticket brokers with a very important charitable effort.

It’s called NATB Gives Back. The program is the NATB’s way of having these ticket broker companies, staff and family members “give back” to the local communities that support our businesses. And what a great organization it is. In 2009 the NATB Gives Back launched it's first partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities. Since that time we have provided tickets to preseason games for both the New York Giants and New York Jets to hundreds of families thru this great program.

To all of our fellow ticket brokers who have contributed tickets, volunteer time at a Ronald McDonald House, served on one of our committees or made any kind of contribution to the NATB Gives Back Program, we are forever grateful to you. To those who might want to help us with these charitable efforts in the future, we would appreciate any ticket donations or volunteer time you might be able to give us in the days ahead. Every minute counts.

Applause Theatre Service: Who We Are

April 5, 2004. Care to guess what happened on that date? No it wasn't the opening of a new show on Broadway. Although it is theatre related. Give up? That's the day I started working for Applause. That's over ten years for those of you math majors out there. Since that day I have sold thousands of tickets to shows and events all around the world. Oh sure Broadway may be our biggest seller but we do sell other things besides The Lion King and Wicked. Having been employed here for over a decade you would probably guess that I'm a little partial when it comes to our company as well as the kind of service that we provide for our customers. I mean let's face it. If we don't toot our own horn then who will? Now I know that we're not the only game in town. There are hundreds of companies just like us that do the same thing we do. So what makes us different from everybody else? Well I'll tell you.

Location. Our office unlike most ticket sellers out there is in New York City. Imagine that? In fact we are right in Times Square, just steps away from all the Broadway theatres. That means you can actually walk right up to our office seven days a week and purchase tickets to any show or event you want to see. How many other companies do you know that offer service like that? Not too many my friends. Plus I bet you didn't know that most ticket companies aren't even located in New York. Yes I know that's nothing new. It's always been like that. Now I go to the theatre a lot. Because I do I have been in every theatre multiple times and have sat in every section from the Orchestra all the way to the Balcony.

Now I know what you're thinking. What does this have to do with anything? Well remember how I said that most ticket companies aren't located here in New York. Now I don't know about you but when I buy tickets to see a show I like to speak to someone who's actually been in the theatre. Call me crazy but I think that's important. Plus since I go to all the shows I can tell them where the best seats are and of course if the show is worth seeing. Yes I know what I like others may not and vice versa. That's what makes theatre so great. There is something for everybody. It's like that with the ticket business too. There's a lot of options. The big question you have to ask yourself is which one do you choose? The thing is whether you order from us of the guy down the street just remember it's your choice. Just make sure it's the right one for you. After all it's your money.

Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas To Return To New York For The Holidays

That's right. The holidays are here. O.K. I realize that Christmas is still five months away but come on people. It will be here before you know it. And what better way to celebrate the holiday season than by seeing Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. The show which first opened on Broadway in 2006 is returning to the New York City area for the first time since 2012 where it will begin performances at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden on December 5 and run thru December 28. Tickets for the show are set to go on sale on August 20 and I have no doubt it will be a big seller. Makes sense to me. After all except for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular there really isn't any other show that celebrates Christmas quite like those two. Am I right?

By the way for those of you looking to purchase tickets to either of these two shows you are in luck. We sell them. Well that and every show both On and Off Broadway. You know what? I almost forgot. There is another classic that will be playing in New York this holiday season. Care to guess which one? Well it features such characters like the Sugar Plum Fairy and Dewdrop. No it's not The Book of Mormon. It's The Nutcracker and it has been playing in New York during the holidays since it first premiered in 1954. That's sixty years for you mathematicians out there. So there you have it folks. Three great shows that will make this year's holiday one that you will never forget. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

Wow! Has is really been two weeks since my last customer story? Now to be honest I have been a little busy. Besides helping all of our wonderful customers I have been busy putting the finishing touches on our upcoming Fall/Winter Newsletter as well as trying to rebook everyone who had tickets for Rocky and Bullets Over Broadway. Let's hope that is the end of the show closings for the time being. Anyway back to my customer story. This past Sunday I received a call from one of our regular customers who was looking for tickets to see Pippin. Good choice I thought as it is a great show and perfect for all ages. So anyway after finding out what they wanted to see I asked her how many seats she needed and more importantly when they wanted to go. Well as it turns out they needed twenty-two tickets. Not only that but they wanted to go two days after Thanksgiving. Luckily for them they were booking well in advance so I told them I didn't think it would be a problem getting them excellent seats. When all was said and done I was able to get them great seats in the Center Mezzanine. Not only that but because she ordered so many I gave her a group discount and waved the shipping fee. Let's just say that I made her day. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?
