Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the West Coast. Fresno, California to be exact. This past Friday I received a call from travel agent who has been ordering tickets from us for almost five years. Now that's what I call a loyal customer. Anyway she called because she had a client who was planning a trip to New York in late September and wanted to see a few shows while he was here. Actually he wanted to see four shows. His first choice was The Book of Mormon which as everyone knows is Broadway's hottest shows in almost a decade.

After a little checking I was able to find some excellent seats in the Center Orchestra six rows from the stage. Now that is what I call some good seats. The price tag? Well let's just say he could have purchased a 42" flat screen for what it cost for just two tickets to The Book of Mormon. I hope it was worth it. One show down. Three to go. Next up was War Horse. Broadway's second hottest new show. Now while popular I knew I would be able to get him good seats but for a fraction of what he payed for Mormon. Sure enough I was able to get him center seats in the front loge.

Not only that but for a price that he was seeing anywhere else. For his final two shows he picked Sister Act and Priscilla Queen of The Desert. Now while both shows received good reviews and several Tony nominations they aren't huge hits like the other two. Therefore I was able to get him excellent seats and for below face value. I figured with all the money that he was spending on The Book of Mormon I would try and get him a deal for the other remaining shows. Well he loved that. Not only that but he said he would use again when he came back next year. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Broadway Is Open For Business

Some of you might have heard that New York had a little storm over the weekend. Now while Hurricane Irene wasn't as bad as expected it did shut the theatres down for two days. It has been estimated that "little storm" cost the theatre community between right and ten million dollars in ticket sales. That's a lot of money my friends. So now that the storm is over we can get back to business right? Works for me. I mean just because Broadway shut down for a couple of days doesn't mean life has to stop now does it? No way. Now is the best time to come to New York and see a show. Live theatre. There is nothing like it.

New Play The Mountaintop Starring Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Basett Now On Sale

That's right theatre fans. One of these season's most highly anticipated new shows is now on sale. The Mountaintop, a new play starring Academy Award nominees Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett is set to begin previews at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on September 22 with opening night scheduled for October 13. The strictly limited engagement will run thru January 15,2012. The show which was written by up and coming playwright Katori Hall first premiered at Theatre 503 in June 2009 before transferring to the West End where it won the 2010 Olivier Award for Best Play.

Here is a brief description of the show from it's press agent. "Taking place on April 3, 1968, The Mountaintop, press notes state, is a "gripping reimagining of events the night before the assassination of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. After delivering his legendary ‘I've Been to the Mountaintop’ speech, an exhausted Dr. King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis while a storm rages outside. When a mysterious young woman delivers room service, King is forced to confront his past, as well as his legacy to his people."

Sounds like a winner to me. By the way for those of you who want tickets to see this sure fire hit you have come to the right place my friends. Good seats are now available. Not only that but from now thru November 10 you can get them for below face value. That's right. I said below face value. Good seats are still available so don't delay. Get your tickets to see Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett in The Mountaintop on Broadway. Expect this show to be a big contender at next year's Tony Awards. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

Today's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Texas. Marble Hills to be exact. Last night I received a call from a travel agent who need tickets for a group of fifteen people. Now while they all wanted to go on the same date they all didn't want to see the same show. I told her that would be no problem and I asked her when they would be here and what shows they wanted to see. As it turns out seven people wanted to see Priscilla Queen of the Desert while two people wanted to see The Lion King and another two wanted to see Jersey Boys.

Wait a minute. That only adds up to eleven tickets. What happened to the other four people? Now while most in the party wanted to go during the evening the other four wanted to see a matinee show. Their choice? Mary Poppins. Now while The Lion King is still one of Broadway's most popular shows they lower the prices during the fall months as the show tends to slow down when the kids go back to school. Therefore I was able to get them excellent seats in the Center Mezzanine for less than what it normally sells for. Well she loved that. One show down. Three to go.

Since Mary Poppins has been playing for almost five years I was able to get them an "Insider Price" and get them seats in the Front Mezzanine for below face value. Same for Priscilla Queen of the Desert. One show to go. Last but not least was Jersey Boys. Once again I was able to get them seats in the Front Mezzanine seats. Are you sensing a pattern here? What can I say? I think the Mezzanine is the best place to sit in most of not all theatres. Thankfully most people agree with me. So there you have it folks. Four great shows at four amazing prices. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Ghost The Musical To Open On Broadway This Spring

Really? Another movie turned musical. Broadway doesn't have enough of those. It was announced today that Ghost The Musical based on the 1990 Academy Award winning film is set to open on the Great White Way in March 2012. The show which opened to mixed reviews in the West End in July features music and lyrics by Grammy Award winner Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) and Glen Ballard. Direction is by Tony Award winner Matthew Warchus (God of Carnage,Boeing-Boeing). Now believe it or not but I have never seen the film. I know. I know. I'm probably the only person on the planet who hasn't at this point. Evidently it was pretty popular. That's my hint at sarcasm in case you didn't know. How the show will do on Broadway is anyone's guess. Personally I could care less. How about some original ideas on Broadway? Then maybe I'll get excited. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

Earlier today I received a call from a travel agent in Texas looking for tickets for Wicked in New York. No surprise there as it is still Broadway's most popular show. However these tickets were not for a client but for herself. I told her that not only would I be able to get her excellent seats but because they were for her she would get a travel agent discount. For those of you travel agents out there that who have never used Applause not only do you get commission when you get tickets for your clients but you always get a discount when buying tickets for yourself. Sounds good to me. Anyway I asked her when she wanted to go and she was wondering if there were any Mid Mezzanine seats available for any if the dates she would be there. I told her that since she was coming during a slow period and the fact that she was looking for a weekday I would not only be able to get her excellent seats but for a lower price. Well she loved that. Not only did I get her center seats but at a price that was lower than she was expecting. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Save On Broadway's Mamma Mia This Fall

Now in it's tenth year on Broadway is Mamma Mia. The smash hit musical which first premiered in the West End in 1999 features the music of Swedish super group ABBA. But of course you already knew that didn't you? I mean let's face it that is the main reason you're seeing the show after all. Now believe it or not but I have never seen the show. Yes I'm sure it is good. A show doesn't run that long for nothing. Who knows? Maybe one of these days I'll get around to seeing it. Stranger things have happened. Anyway for those of you who have never seen the show or those of you who want to see it again there is no better time than right now. Good seats are available for all future performances. Not only that but at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru October 2, 2011 it is for select seats and subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Mamma Mia on Broadway. A million ABBA fans can't be wrong.

That's right theatre fans. It's time to talk about the grosses. Can you believe that Summer is almost over? I don't know about you but I am tired of the warm weather. Bring on the snow. Last week there five shows that hit the one million mark at the box office. They were The Lion King, Wicked, Spider-Man, The Book of Mormon, and How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. No big surprises there. Same shows as always. In the coming weeks four shows are scheduled to close. The good news is between now and the end of the year fourteen shows are opening. Now that is something to get excited about. Which ones will fail and which ones will succeed? It's going to be an interesting fall. Until next time.

My Thoughts On The Ticket Industry

Walking to work this morning I saw a large billboard in Times Square advertising tickets for Broadway. Not for just one show mind you but for a majority of the shows that play both On and Off-Broadway. Let's face it without advertising most companies would fail to exist. Now we all now that the economy is not the best right now. People are being laid off and businesses both large and small are being forced to shut their doors. So what does this have to do with theatre tickets?

Well we all know that the cost of taking a whole family to a show in New York can be expensive. It's even expensive for just one person. Now the good news is there are ways to see theatre affordably. Paying four or five hundred dollars to see a show is fine if you have the money. Truth is most people don't. Look I'm not saying that you shouldn't go to the theatre. On the contrary. Theatre is more important than ever. It allows us to escape. It allows us to forget our problems. Even if just for a few hours.

Yes I am a ticket broker. That means I charge a service fee on my tickets. That's nothing new. I mean let's face it you can't buy anything these days without some sort of fee. That's how the company makes it's money and how it's employees earn a living. That's the way it has always been. That will never change. Now I guess I could spend the rest of this blog telling you that you should only buy from my company. Or that we are the best because we have the best seats at the best prices. Sorry but everybody does that. Who you buy or don't buy from is your choice. Just make sure it is the one that is right for you. It's your dollar after all. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

I have to tell you that of all the topics I blog about week in and week out my favorite ones are the customer stories. I think they are my bosses favorite too. I mean let's face it. Without our customers I wouldn't have a job and without a job I wouldn't have anything to blog about. You don't want that to happen now do you? I didn't think so. Anyway yesterday afternoon I recieved a call from a gentleman from Virginia inquiring about tickets to see Wicked in October and wanted to know if we had the seats he was seeing on another site. I asked him what site he was on and he mentioned one of my competitors.

I mentioned to him that every company has their own set of seats but because we are based in New York City we have access to more inventory than most companies do. He thanked me for my time and said he would call the next day if he couldn't get it from the other company. Now I have been in this business long enough to know that most people don't order the first time the call. They are simply shopping around. Trying to find the best deal. Trust me I get it. I do the same thing. In this economy it just makes sense. So even though I was hoping he would call back I wasn't going to be that surprised if he didn't.

Well wouldn't you know it but one of my first calls of the day was from him. He said that even though he had seen better seats on the other site he called back because he appreciated my honesty and the fact I took the time to answer his questions and went out of my way to help him get the best deal. Even if it wasn't from me. I thanked him for his kind words and set out to find him his seats. When he called he actually was only going to purchase one show but because I had found him tickets at a lower rate than he was expecting he ordered another show. In fact he ended up ordering seven tickets for each show. I guess good customer service pays off these days.Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

New Play Relatively Speaking Now On Sale

It's funny but up until a few years ago the one thing I knew I could always count on was there would be at least five or six new musicals opening in the fall. Now we are lucky to get two before December.Nowadays most shows will wait until March or April to open. That way when the Tony nominations come out in early May they will be fresh in the minds of the Tony committee. Makes sense to me. I know when my musical opens on Broadway one day I want it to be the final show of the season.

Or do I want it to be the first? I guess I will just have to wait until a rich producer comes along and throws a few million dollars my way. A boy can dream can't he? Anyway enough about me and my show. Relatively Speaking an evening of one acts written by Woody Allen, Elaine May, and Ethan Cohen is set to begin previews at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on September 20. That's only a month away people. Opening night is scheduled for October 20. Now I am a huge Woody Allen. I have been ever since I played Humphrey Bogart in his production of Play It Again Sam in high school.

Elaine May and Ethan Cohen? Not so much. I take that back. I'm sure their plays are going to good as well. After all Elaine May is a comedy legend and Ethan Cohen is an Academy Award winning writer and director. Of course so is Woody. I told you I was a fan. By the way tickets for Relatively Speaking are now on sale. Good seats are available for all performances so don't delay. Call now. Get your tickets to see Relatively Speaking on Broadway. Who knows? Broadway's Hottest Show Is The Book Of Mormon

Well unless you've been living under a rock for the past six months then you know that The Book of Mormon is the hottest show to come along in the last decade. Not since The Producers has there been such a demand to see a show. Not only that but at prices that are skyrocketing as we speak. Now I love Broadway as much the next person but $900 for a ticket is a little steep if you ask me. Let's see. The Book of Mormon or next month's rent? I think I will choose keeping a roof over my head if you don't mind. Anyway for those of you who want tickets to see this Tony winning musical and of course for those of you who can afford it there are tickets available. Don't believe what you've heard. There are tickets out there. You just have to know where to find them.

Luckily you don't have far to look. Oh sure I guess you could spend a few hours on the Internet looking for tickets. Or you could call one of the friendly ticket experts at Applause and make your life easy.Plus I can guarantee you that are prices are lower than you will find anywhere else. By the way for those of you who are not familiar with the Eugene O'Neill Theatre I can tell you that not only is it one of the smallest theatres on Broadway but all the seats are great no matter where you sit. That means whether you are in the first row of the Orchestra or the last row of the Mezzanine you have an excellent view. Get your tickets to see The Book of Mormon on Broadway. Now while I have never seen the show I have only heard good things about it. In fact I still get calls about it every day. Not bad for a show that is set to celebrate it's third year on Broadway. Not only is it still one of Broadways' most popular shows but it still one of London's hottest shows as well. Good seats are now available for all performances. Applause and Last Minute Tickets

So it's Thursday evening in the Big Apple and you and your sweetheart don't have any plans for the evening. I guess you could go out to dinner. New York is famous for it's fine cuisine after all. A good meal is nice and all but after an hour or so after you've eaten it you've totally forgotten about it. I know I do. Why not spend your money on something that will you remember for years to come. That's right. A Broadway show. Right now there are currently twenty-four shows running on the Great White Way with thirteen more scheduled to open before the end of the year. Now that's something to get excited about.

Anyway back to the reason for the blog. Not only does Applause sell tickets for all events in New York but we can also get tickets for any show you want and on the same day. How many other ticket companies do you know do that? Not too many my friends. Want tickets for a Saturday night? No problem. How about last minute tickets to see Broadway's hottest show The Book of Mormon? You want them. We got them. Don't forget that Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all your ticket needs. That's what we do. So why not give us a call? You'll be glad you did. Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway Production Of Chicago Makes History Again

Has it really been fifteen years since Chicago opened on Broadway? Now technically it's been thirty-one years since it opened. I'm talking about the revival. This new production began it's life as part of the Encore! Series in the Spring of 1996. Following the success of that production it transferred to the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway where it remained until January 9 1997. Two days later the show opened at the much larger Shubert Theatre where it stayed for the next six years. Think they are done moving theatres? Think again. Shortly after the release of the hit Oscar winning movie the theatre settled in at the Ambassador Theatre where it is now in it's eighth year. Not bad for a show that during it's original run was overshadowed by A Chorus Line and ran for a little over two years. Incidentally when Chicago becomes the fourth longest running show in Broadway history on August 27 it will do so by surpassing it's main rival. How is that for irony? Not only that but on that same date it will also become the longest running American musical in Broadway history. Congrats! Get your tickets to see Chicago The Musical. It is Broadway at it's best.

Disney's The Lion King Makes A Difference For People With Autism This October

Now I'll admit that I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world. Those of you who have read my blogs can attest that. No matter how I feel about them I know that they are good for Broadway. If not for them most kids would never get to experience a Broadway show. In fact for most that is their first exposure to the theatre. For that they should be commended. Today Disney is to be commended once again. According to a recent article Disney will offer the first ever performance exclusively for people with Autism. I think that this is a great idea and I hope this will encourage other shows to do the same. Theatre should be for everyone. No matter who you are. Remember that. Disney did.

Customer Story

My first day back since Sunday and I already have my first customer story of the week. How great is that? A couple of hours ago I got a call from a travel agent who was looking for tickets for a client of her's who wanted to see Wicked. Actually the conversation first started on Boldchat. For those of you who are not familiar with Boldchat it is a live chat that Applause introduced a few years back which allows travel agents and other consumers to ask our customer service reps questions about tickets as well as things to do or see while they are here. You can even order tickets on there as well. How great is that?

Yes I know I used that phrase already in this blog but you have to admit it is pretty awesome if I do say so myself. Anyway back to the blog. I asked her when her clients would be here and she said they would be here on Labor Day weekend and was wondering what type of seats I had available.I asked her if her clients had a price range in mind and she said price wasn't really important. They just wanted good seats. First I offered her the seats we had in our inventory. Because Wicked is still Broadway's most popular show we often have a large allotment of tickets to sell. Especially on the weekends. The seats we had were in Row G on the Mid Mezzanine which is still a great view. No matter what you've heard.

She said she would offer those to her client but was wondering if there was anything a little closer in the Orchestra or Front Mezzanine. After a little research I found some seats in the side Orchestra and Front Mezzanine as well as Premium seats which we retail for around $330 each. Yes I know they sound expensive but $300 is low when you compare it to The Book of Mormon which is starting at $555 and higher for the next couple of months. Anyway to make a long story short her client ended up going with the Mid Mezz seats. Plus she got them for a lower rate than they had seen anywhere else. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Seminar Starring Alan Rickman Has Found A Home

I can't tell you how many phone calls and Boldchats I have received about this show over the last few weeks. Finally I can tell people when it is finally going to start. Not only that but where it is going to be playing. Seminar, a new play by Theresa Rebek starring Tony nominated actor Alan Rickman, will begin previews at the John Golden Theatre on October 27, 2011. Opening night is scheduled for November 20. Now as much as I am sure the play is going to be very good based on Ms. Rebek's recent work we all know the main reason people are going to see the show is to see Alan Rickman. No offense to the playwright who is very, very talented. The truth is without a name these days most new plays are not produced. A of now no date has been announced when tickets will go on sale but I would guess within a matter of weeks Stay tuned to http://www.applause-tickets.com/ for more info. Until next time theatre fans.

Buying Broadway Tickets From A Broker

My name is J. and I am a ticket broker. There I said it. So now that that's out of the way I can continue with today's blog. When it comes to buying tickets to a Broadway show there are two ways to do it. In person at the box office or thru a ticket seller via the phone or the web. Now unless you live in New York or the surrounding area you are more than likely going to go thru a broker. Oh sure I guess you could wait and try your luck when you get here. But what if the show you want to see is sold out or you are worried that by the time you get there all the the good seats are already gone? Well I guess you won't see the show right? Wait a minute. You still have another option remember.

That's right. You can purchase your tickets thru a broker. A licensed ticket broker that is. Here are the fact's my friends. There are currently a total of thirteen licensed ticket brokers in the state of New York. Eleven of those are in New York City. Applause just happens to be one of them. Look I can't tell you which one to purchase tickets from. That is your decision. Now would I prefer you buy from my company? Of course I would. The question you have to ask yourself is, "Who has the best service?" Well that and of course ,"Who has the best prices?" We all want a bargain. In this economy it is more important then ever. I say do you homework. Shop around. Then decide which one is best for you. It's your money after all. Until next time theatre fans.

Now Is the Best Time To Come To New York And See A Show

Can you believe that Summer is almost over? Time sure does fly in the big bad city. Now the truth is most people that visit New York usually see a show while they are here. We are the theatre capitol of the world after all. Now while we are known for Broadway there are other things to see and do while you are here. There is of course Off-Broadway. In the last few years Off-Broadway has been home to some of the most innovative and original shows seen in years. But what if theatre is not what you are looking for? How about tickets to the Mets or New York Yankees? Maybe Opera is you thing. Or the ballet. At Applause we sell it all and then some. Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. Wicked Tickets And Applause Theatre Service

October 30, 2003. Anyone know what happened on that date? Maybe the title of my blog will give you a clue. Give up? O.K. I won't keep you in suspense. On that day Wicked opened on Broadway at the Gershwin Theatre. Now here we are almost eight years later and the show is still selling out eight times a week. How many shows do you know still do that? Not to many. Now most people forget that when the show opened reviews were very mixed to say the least. In fact The New York Times downright panned it. I guess the critic's don't know everything. Now for those of you who still haven't seen the show there in no better time than right now. Good seats are available for all performances. Not only that but at prices that you will find lower than anywhere else. Need tickets for a Saturday night? No problem. How about tickets for Thanksgiving or Christmas week. You want them. We got them. Get your tickets to see Wicked on Broadway. You will love it.

Customer Story

Guess what time it is? It's time for my second customer story of the week. This one comes all the way from the Hoosier state. That's right folks. I am talking about Indiana. Yesterday I got a call from a very nice lady who was taking a cruise to Europe next month and was going to be stopping off in London for a few days and wanted to see a couple of shows while she was there. I told her I would be happy to help her and asked her what dates she would be there and what she would like to see. She was hoping to see both Billy Elliot and The 39 Steps and was wondering if either of them played on Sunday.

Unlike Broadway where almost everything plays on Sundays except for The Phantom of the Opera there are is only one major show that plays on Sunday and that is The Lion King. Because of the cruise she could do both shows on Saturdays. I told her that shouldn't be a problem. After a little research I was able to get her excellent seats in the Stalls (Orchestra). Not only that but seats on the center aisle. How great is that? She thanked me for helping her with her tickets and said she will defiantly use us again when she comes to New York next year. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Rent Reviews

Yesterday I posted a blog talking about Rent's return to the New York stage. Now you all know what happens the day after every big opening don't you? That's right. The reviews. Now normally I don't post them on our site but being that Rent is my favorite show of all time I figured I would. Take them for what their worth. Until next time theatre fans.

Shopping For Theatre Tickets On The Internet

Let's face it. Everybody at one point in their life has bought something online. I myself do it all the time. All you need is a computer, a credit card, and of course a little patience and you are set. Why spend hours in a crowded mall when everything you want is just a click away? Now when looking to purchase theater tickets online we all know that there are lot's of companies that offer such a service. Applause is just one of many. I take that back. We are one of hundreds in this great country of ours that sell tickets to New York shows as well as events all around the United States. Now I guess I could go on and on and do all I can to convince you to buy your tickets from Applause Theatre Service. What kind of businessman would I be if I didn't? The truth is if you want to find the best deal you have to shop around. Rarely do you find what you are looking on the first site you check out. I know I don't. I say take your time. Shop around. Then decide what works best for you. In this economy you have to be careful.I mean let's face it.Who know's when things are going to turn around.Just remember. It's your money. Applause And London Theatre

Believe it or not but I have never been to London. Not that I think I wouldn't love it. On the contrary. I'm afraid I might love it so much that I would want to stay and I could not do that do my beloved New York City. I guess I'm just a New Yorker at heart. Now for those of you who are travelling across the pond you have come to the right place. London is home to not only some of the most exciting new shows that you will ever see but also thrilling productions of the theatre's most classic plays.Let's face it nobody writes a play like William Shakespeare. Am I right? But what if As You Like It or Much Ado About Nothing is not your thing? How about the new revival of The Wizard of Oz or London's hottest new show Betty Blue Eyes? Right now there are over sixty-five shows in London. Sure you probably won't have time to see them all but one or two might be fun. And if you don't know what to see just give us a call and we can recommend something for you. That's what we do. Don't forget that Applause Theatre Service is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. See Daniel Radcliffe In How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying For Less

Still haven't seen the 2011 revival of How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying? Well there is no better time than the present my friends. The show which opened at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on March 27, 2011 stars Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette who won a Tony Award for his hilarious performance as J.B. Biggley. Now it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the main reason the show is a such a hit at the box office is because everybody wants to see their favorite sorcerer in training sing and dance across the Broadway stage. Makes sense to me. Good seats are now available for all performances. Not only that but at prices that are lower than they've ever been. Now while this "Special Offer" is good thru November 4, 2011 it is for select seats and subject to availability. Get your tickets to see How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Applause Theatre Service And The Book Of Mormon:A Winning Combination

Winner of nine 2011 Tony Awards including Best Musical of the Year is The Book of Mormon. The show which opened at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on March 24. 2011 is far and away Broadway's biggest hit since The Producers. Yes I know Wicked is still Broadway's hottest selling show. However in all the years that I have been in this business I can't recall anybody ever offering to pay $400 or more a ticket to see it.

Think I'm joking? Two weeks ago a colleague of mine sold two tickets to a client for over $800 each. I guess they really wanted to see it. I myself had a customer just last month who bought eight tickets to see the show in September. Now granted they were good seats in the Center Orchestra. Their price tag? $4,440. For those of you keeping score at home that averages out to $555 a ticket. Good thing they bought it before the economy went all to hell. Oh well. I guess they could always resell it on EBay.

Now for those of you with money to spend you have come to the right place. Applause has inventory starting in October all the way thru next Summer. Not only that but at prices that are lower than you will find anywhere else. Need seats for a Saturday night? No problem. How about tickets for the Thanksgiving or Christmas holidays? You want them? We got them. Get your tickets to see The Book of Mormon on Broadway. You will laugh your a** off. I guarantee it.

Rent Returns

That's right Rent-heads. Our favorite show is back. Only this time it will be a little far West of Broadway. Rent which first premiered at New York Theatre Workshop in December 1995 will return to it's Off-Broadway roots when it opens tonight at New World Stages. Those of you who have read my blogs over the years are well aware how much this show has meant to me. Not only from a personal standpoint but a creative one as well. In fact if it wasn't for the vision and genius of the late Jonathan Larson my musical (Avarice) not to mention many other shows would probably not exist. For that I owe you a big thanks. Get your tickets to see Rent. It will change your life. It did mine.

Customer Story

I know. I know. Another customer story. What is that? Twenty in the last month? No. I haven't wrote that many. Although it sure does feel like like it. What can I say? We have a lot of great customers. Better than no customers right? Anyway this past weekend I got from a call from a gentleman who needed some last minute tickets to The Lion King. How last minute? The show started in less than two hours. Now that's what I call last minute. Now while the show had been sold out for the last few days we at Applause have have access to last minute tickets that are not available to the general public. Not only but at prices that are lower than anywhere else for that matter. So not only was I able to get him excellent seats less on the same day but a price lower than he had seen anywhere else. Plus he called during intermission and inquired about tickets to see Wicked for this week. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

A Day In The Life Of a Ticket Broker

As I was walking thru Times Square on my way to work this morning I noticed a large billboard advertising for tickets to see Rock of Ages on Broadway. Now for those of you who have read my blogs know that it is one of my favorite shows currently running on the Great White Way. Now is the show for everybody? I would dare to say probably not. For those of you who love more traditional shows like Anything Goes or The Phantom of the Opera it is probably not for you.Now I personally have seen the show four times. In fact I am taking my parents to see the show in November when they come up for Thanksgiving.

In the many times over the years that they have been here they have seen four shows. Avenue Q and Rent which at the time were big hits on Broadway. Now they are Off-Broadway. The other two shows were a production of Closer Than Ever that I directed back in 1994. That production marked by New York directorial debut. Since then I have produced and or directed over a half a dozen shows in New York. The fourth and final show that they saw was Avarice. Let me guess. You've never heard of it have you? Well that's because except for a few readings and a concert there has never been a full production. Now the reason that I am mentioning it is because I wrote it.

Nothing like a little self promotion I always say. Let's face it. If I don't talk about it who else will?
It's the same thing in the ticket business. If you don't put our name out there then people will simply buy from another company. If you don't market your show then they will see something else. Right now there are twenty-five shows playing on Broadway with fifteen more scheduled to open in the next seven to eight months. Which ones will fail? Which ones will succeed. The truth is nobody knows. In this economy we should thank our lucky stars that people can still afford to come to New York at all. Let alone shell out hundreds of dollars to see a show. Until next time theatre fans.

Get Tickets For Broadway's Longest Running Show The Phantom of the Opera For Below Face Value

The year was 1988. Ronald Regan was in the White House. The Dow Jones Industrial Average falls 140.58 points and a little show from London takes the Great White Way by storm. Now here we are some twenty-three years later and the economy is in bad shape and The Phantom of the Opera is just as popular as it ever was. Now no one not even Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber could have predicted that the show would last as long as it has.

Yet here we are in 2011 and the show is still going strong. Now I loved the show when it first came out. Except for the plays and musicals I did in High School Phantom was my first real exposure to Broadway. Three years after hearing it for the first time I was sitting five rows from the stage seeing it live and in person. How great is that? Since then I have seen the show over a half a dozen times. Each time just as magical as the first.

How may shows do you know can still do that? Not too many my friends. Now as I mentioned it is now possible to see this Tony Award winning musical for below face value. That's right theatre fans. I said below face value. Now that's what I call a bargain. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru the fall it is not available for Saturday evenings and subject to availability.Get your tickets to see The Phantom of the Opera. Who knows? Maybe I'll see you there.

Save On Mary Poppins Like Never Before

One of my favorite childhood memories was seeing Mary Poppins for the first time. In fact from the ages five to ten I must have seen the movie over a hundred times. I guess you could say I enjoyed it. Now while I loved the movie I'll admit I'm not the biggest Disney fan in the world. Oh sure the movies were great when I was a kid but as I grew older I guess you could say I outgrew them. Not to mention the thought of turning cartoons into Broadway musicals used to make my stomach turn.

Yes I know Mary Poppins is not like The Lion King or Beauty and the Beast. To be honest I've never seen either one. Well the stage version that is. I finally saw the movie version of Beauty and the Beast a few years ago and against my better judgement I ended up loving it. I guess I'm just a sucker for a happy ending. Anyway because of the work I am in we are often invited to see the shows prior to opening.

That way when people call wanting to know what we thought we can give them our honest opinion. So there I sat at the New Amsterdam Theatre waiting for Mary Poppins to begin. Yes I loved the movie. Didn't mean I was going to like the stage version. Once again I was wrong. I loved the show. Seeing the show made me feel like a kid again. How many shows can do that?
For those of you who think that you have to be a kid to appreciate the show I am proof positive that is not true.

We're all young at heart after all. Now for those of you who have yet to experience the magic that is Mary Poppins then you have come to the right place. As we speak you can tickets to see this beloved musical for prices that are....wait for it...below face value. Be advised that while this offer is good thru November 20, 201 some blackout dates and restrictions may apply. Get your tickets to see Mary Poppins on Broadway. You will love it.

See What All The Razzle Dazzle Is About And Get Your Tickets To Chicago The Musical On Broadway

Soon to celebrate it's record breaking 15th year on the Great White Way is Chicago. The show which first premiered in 1975 is not only the longest running revival in Broadway history but is the fifth longest running show overall. Not bad for a show that was overshadowed by A Chorus Line and ran less than two years. This production first began at the Encore! Series at City Center in the Spring of 1996. The show received rave reviews and soon plans were made to move the show to Broadway.

Since that time the show has played in over thirty different countries and been translated into Japanese. The show also has the distinction of playing at three different theatres during it's Broadway run. Not too shabby. Since the British invasion of musicals in the 1980's audiences have become accustomed to over the top theatrics and enormous sets.Yet here we are in 2011 and a little show like Chicago has outlasted them all.

All except The Phantom of the Opera that is. I have to say that I loved the show when I saw it back in 1997. They weren't trying to re-invent the wheel. They were there to tell a story while at the same time entertain you. That is something that is very rare these days. Other shows should take notice. You don't have to spend millions of dollars to make a show great. All you need is a few musicians. A talented cast. And last but not least a little razzle dazzle.Until next time theatre fans.

Buying Broadway Tickets For Below Face Value

Below face value? I must be mad.Or maybe all this hot weather we've been having has finally fried my brain. I promise folks. I am perfectly sane. Well as sane as one can be in New York City. The truth is buying tickets to a Broadway show or even an Off-Broadway show can be expensive. Even I know that and I see most shows for free. Just a little perk of the job. Well what if you aren't like me and have to buy your tickets? Well I guess you could just wait until you get here, march yourself up to the theatre and hope that tickets are available.

Oh and pay full price of course as well. Why do that when you can call one of the friendly ticket experts at Applause a call and we can get you tickets for less. Let's face it. A bargain is bargain. Especially in this economy. Why pay more when you don't have to? Even as we speak there are over twenty five shows both On and Off-Broadway that you can see for below fave value. There I go again. Below face value. Now I may be a little crazy at times but I never lie when it comes to saving money. Guess I'm not so sane after all. Guess you'll have to call me and find out. Until next time ticket buyers.

Customer Story

That's right theatre fans. It's time for my second customer story of the week. What can I say? We have some great customers. Anyway a couple of days ago I received a call from a gentleman who had just gotten his tickets in the mail and while very happy with the seats was wondering why the price on the ticket was less than what he was charged. After looking up his account I saw that he had ordered tickets for Wicked as well as Broadway's hottest new show The Book of Mormon.

Now while Wicked has been playing for almost eight years now it is still one of Broadway's most popular shows. Plus he had purchased the tickets for the day after Thanksgiving which is one if not one of the busiest weeks of the year. Well that and the following week when the light the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center.I explained to him that while we do have a mark up on the tickets he was paying a little more to get better seats and at a price that is lower than he would probably find anywhere else.

It turns out that he had seen other seats on another website that sold them for a little less but that he had called us because he knew he could speak to a live person. Now for The Book of Mormon he was expecting to pay more since it was so popular.Like Wicked he had seen tickets on other websites but not only were we less expensive then most but I was actually able to give him exact seat locations before he purchased. Anyway after talking to me he felt better and said that he would definitely use us again in the future. Anothered satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Applause And Travel Agents

Having worked at Applause Theatre Service for over seven years now I would say that most not all our customers are from individuals and families looking for tickets to the best shows with the best prices. I know when I shop I do the same. I mean let's face it. Everybody wants a bargain nowadays. However we do have a very large travel agent base as well. One of the reasons they continue to come back year after year is that besides providing their client with great seats we provide a service.

The truth is there are hundreds of companies just like us. Anybody can sell you a ticket. The question you have to ask yourself is are they giving really looking out for your best interest?Do a google search on the Internet and you will see hundreds of companies just like us. The difference between us and those other companies besides being located in New York we truly are experts at what we do.

We see all the shows. Having been in every theatre on Broadway we know where the best seats are and how to get them at price that won't cost you an arm and a leg. That's what we do. We wouldn't still be around some twenty-four years later if we weren't doing something right. Like I said there are lots of other companies out there that will gladly take your money. Wouldn't you rather give your business to someone that cares about you and not the almighty dollar? I know I would if I had the choice.

Get Tickets To See Avenue Q For Below Face Value

Still haven't seen Avenue Q yet? Well what on earth are you waiting for people? It's only been in New York for eight years. Get in gear and get yourself down to New World Stages to see one of the funniest shows you will ever see. I myself have seen the show four times so you have no excuse. The show which won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2004 enjoyed a six year run on Broadway before transferring Off-Broadway in 2009. Now I know what you're thinking? Why would a successful show like Avenue Q pack up and move to a smaller theatre? Well for one thing it cost's a whole lot less to produce a show at an Off-Broadway theatre. Plus by keeping costs down it will hopefully keep the show around a whole lot longer. I don't know about you but I don't even want to imagine a world without Avenue Q in it. Thankfully we don't have too. By the way for you slackers out there who haven't seen this Tony winning musical there is no better than right now. Not only that but at prices that can't be beat. Broadway Revival Of Follies To Begin Previews On August 7

That's right Sondheim fans. One of this season's most highly anticipated shows is set to take Broadway by storm in a little over twenty-four hours. Follies, the landmark musical with music and lyrics by eight time Tony Award winner and Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim and book by James Goldman will begin previews at the Marquis Theatre tomorrow with opening night set for September 12.

As of now the show is a limited engagement scheduled thru the end of the December. However I would not be surprised if the show runs well into the new year. Headlining the show are Tony winner Bernadette Peters, Ron Raines, and Tony nominees Jan Maxwell and Danny Burnstein. This new production of the Tony winning classic comes to Broadway fresh off a sold out engagement at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The last time the show was revived was in 2001 where it was not well received and closed at the end of it's limited run.

Now here we are ten years later and one of Sondheim's most well know shows is set to return to the Great White Way. Will history repeat itself or could this new production bring to new life to this beloved masterpiece. We shall see. By the way good seats are available to see Follies. Not only that but at prices that can't be beat. get your tickets to see Follies on Broadway. Shows like these don't come around everyday so don't miss your chance. Call now.

Disney's The Lion King To Offer Lower Prices This Fall

Now I don't know about you but it seems like only yesterday that Disney invaded the Great White Way. Since the 1994 bow of Beauty and the Beast Disney has produced Aida, Mary Poppins, Tarzan, The Little Mermaid, and of course it's most successful one to date The Lion King. The show which opened in December 1997 to instant acclaim won six 1998 Tony Awards including Best Musical of the Year. Since then it has continued to break box office records and delight and entertain folks of all ages around the world. How many shows do you know do that? While I myself am not biggest Disney fan in the world I do feel that that the theatre landscape as we know it would be very different without them. Heck without them I might not have a job at Applause. You don't want that to happen now do you?

Anyway as I was saying. Today's blog is not about my thoughts about Disney. No I think I'll save that for another blog. Today I am here to share with you some exciting news. It is now possible to see one of Broadway's hottest shows for less. Starting this September you can see The Lion King for less then any other time of the year. Normally the Orchestra and Front Mezzanine are the same price. To be honest that's the way it is with all Broadway shows. Same excellent views. Same prices. Makes sense to me. However Disney being the geniuses they are know that when the kids go back to school sales begin to drop. Therefore they have not only lowered the price of the Front Mezzanine but the Orchestra as well. Sounds good to me. Get your tickets to see The Lion King on Broadway. Deals like these don't come around every day so don't delay. Call now.

Off-Broadway Theatre is Alive and Well

Now I know that when most people think of theatre in New York City they first word that comes to mind is Broadway. Makes sense to me. After all Broadway has been around since the 19th Century. Now I know you didn't come here for a history lesson. The reason for today's blog is not to tell you about the hottest shows on Broadway or how you can see most of them for below face value. No today's blog is about another form of theatre in New York City. Perhaps you've heard of a little thing called Off-Broadway? Although quite frankly there is nothing little about it anymore. As we speak there are over one hundred and fifty shows playing. That's over five times more than Broadway. See I told you it wasn't little didn't I? Now while most of those are limited runs there are also long running shows like Blue Man Group, Stomp, Perfect Crime, Fuerza Bruta, and recent Broadway to Off-Broadway transfers like Avenue Q, Million Dollar Quartet, and my favorite show Rent. That's the great thing about live theatre in New York. So many choices. Until next time theatre fans.

The show which recently celebrated it's 4000th performance on Broadway remains one of Broadway's most popular shows with no end in sight.
