Customer Story

Wicked Tickets
Today's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Massachusetts. Cambridge to be exact. Last week, I received a call from a very nice lady who was planing a trip to London this Summer with her grandchildren, and wanted to treat them to a show.

I asked her what she wanted to see, and she was hoping to obtain tickets to see As You Like It at Stratford Upon Avon. However, she wasn't sure if we sold it. I told her that not only do we sell it, but every show and musical in London.

Everything but Hamilton that is. Anyway, after finding out what they wanted to see, I asked her where she wanted to sit, and of course how much she wanted to spend. Well, since this was her granddaughter's first trip to London, she really wanted them to have the best experience possible.

In the end, I got them amazing seats four rows from the stage on an aisle. Not only that, but I got them at a lower price than she was expecting. In fact, because I saved her so much, she called back a few days later and purchased tickets to Wicked. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Rent Live To Air Tonight On Fox

Related imageAnyone that knows me, or anyone that has read my blogs on here, know that I am a huge Rent fan. I have been ever since April 24, 1996. On that day, I saw the greatest show that I have ever seen.

By the way, that hasn't changed all these years later. Now here we are in 2019, and this groundbreaking landmark musical is about to be seen by a new generation of theatre lovers.

The show, which won four Tony Awards, including Best Musical of the Year, premieres tonight on FOX at 7pmCT/8pmET.

Now to be honest, not all of the live musicals have been well received, or a ratings grabber. Here's hoping that Rent changes all of that. Thank you Jonathan Larson for your talent, your heart, and for a show that changed musical theatre forever. Viva La Vie Boheme!

Broadway's The Phantom of The Opera Celebrates A Milestone

The Phantom of the Opera
Has it really been thirty-one years since The Phantom of the Opera opened on Broadway? I can barely remember what I was doing last week, let alone thirty-one years ago. The show, which officially opened at the Majestic Theatre on January 26, 1988, will celebrate it's 13,000 performance on the Great White Way.

Since then, the show has been seen by over eighteen million people, grossed over one billion dollars at the box office, and is the longest running show in Broadway history. Now those are some impressive stats. Now for those of you who want tickets to see this beloved musical, you have come to the right place my friends. We sell it.

Plus if you call right now, you can get tickets to see the show at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru March 2, it is not good for Saturday evening performances, and as always subject to availability. Get your tickets to see The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway at the Majestic Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

New Play What The Constitution Means To Me To Open On Broadway In March

what-the-constitution-means-to-me-logo logo imageOne of my favorite classes in both junior high, and high school was American History. In fact, if I hadn't decided to pursue a career in the theatre, I might have ended up becoming a History teacher. I loved it that much. Which is why I am so excited about this new play coming to Broadway.

What The Constitution Means To Be, written by and starring Heidi Schreck, is set to begin previews at the Hayes Theatre on March 14, with opening night scheduled for March 31. So what's the show all about? Well believe it or not, it is a true story in which fifteen year old Schreck traveled the United States competing in, and winning Constitution debates in order to pay for her college education. Now that's what I call a young lady with initiative.

The show, which first premiered in 2017 at the Clubbed Thumb’s Summerworks Festival, made it 's Off- Broadway debut at the New York Theatre Workshop, followed by a critically acclaimed run at the Greenwich House Theatre. Tickets for the limited twelve week engagement are now on sale. Not only that, but we are selling it. Get your tickets to see What The Constitution Means To Me on Broadway at the Hayes Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

Pretty Woman: The Musical
Today's customer story comes all the way from the "North Star State". That's right. I am talking about the great state of Minnesota. Last week, I received a call from a Mom who was bringing her two daughters to New York the following week, and wanted to treat them to a show or two while they were here. Nice Mom right?

Anyway, I asked her what she wanted to see, and she said that she wanted to see To Kill A Mockingbird, and the girls wanted to see Mean Girls. Then on the second night, all three of them would go see another show together. Now she knew going in that To Kill A Mockingbird might be difficult.

However, because she only wanted one ticket, she was hoping that it wouldn't be as tough. Thankfully she was right. In the end, I got her an amazing seat five rows from the stage, and on the center aisle. One show down, two to go. Not so fast. As it turns out, the girls decided to not see Mean Girls after all.

That left only one more show. Pretty Woman. Once again, I was able to secure excellent seats right up front. Not only that, but it was less than they were expecting. In fact the next day, she called and ordered another ticket as one of her daughter's friends decided to join them. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

BROADWAY SHOWS COMING SOON IN 2019

BROADWAY BOUND- A GREAT LINEUP OF EXCITING SHOWS IS COMING TO NEW YORK CITY IN 2019

Dear Friends of Broadway Theatre

I love the theater,  Sure I’m in the business of selling tickets to all the Broadway Shows for 41 years now but I have a great love for the theater and live entertainment events in general.  Today’s post will tell everyone about the vast array of Broadway Shows that will soon be appearing at one of NY City’s beautiful theaters in the days and months ahead.  We sure have a great deal to look forward to as producers and directors are bringing in some incredible musical, straight play and comedic productions for theater lovers to enjoy.  I expect that some of these shows will become bonafide hits and play on Broadway for many years to come.
Here's a list of up-to-date Broadway Show productions scheduled to play on Broadway in the days ahead.  They are:

TRUE WEST is a 1983 Pulitzer Prize nominated play that has played Off Broadway as well as on Broadway over the years so this revival is a welcome one indeed for Sam Shepard’s excellent play that stars screenwriter Paul Dano and film star Ethan Hawke.  The pair play brothers Lee and Austin and takes place in their mothers house after not seeing each other in five years.  Lee and Austin, in their very own sibling rivalry way still manage to not get along and as usual, wind up fighting once again.  Still at times, it seems that  they might have more in common than they think.  True West has begun previews at New York’s American Airline Theatre with an opening night set for Thursday Jan 24, 2019.  This Roundabout Theatre Production is a limited engagement and will play until March 17, 2019.  For tickets and information kindly consider a call to Applause-Tickets at 212-307-7050.

BE MORE CHILL comes to Broadway’s Lyceum Theater after an incredible run Off Broadway and begins previews on February 13 with an opening night scheduled for March 10, 2019.  This Ned Vizzini novel comes to Broadway in its musical form and is written by Joe Tracz with music by Joe Iconis.  Is it possible for a pill to make you more popular?  Be More Chill offers a look into the possibility of achieving a “perfect life” thanks to some incredible technology.  Will there be a cost that might not be “easy to swallow”?  Be More Chill has played throughout the world in places like Brazil, Japan, New Jersey and various locations.  The show has a huge audience and ranks #2 on Tumblr just after Broadway’s hit musical Hamilton.  For tickets and information please consider a call to Applause-Tickets at 212-307-7050.

KISS ME KATE, is going to be a big hit Broadway season musical comedy revival for 2019 with stars Kelli O’Hara and Will Chase.  The show won Broadway’s first ever Tony Award for Best Musical more than seventy years ago.  With music and lyrics by Cole Porter and songs that old timers will surely remember such as Too Darn Hot and So In Love and so many others, Kiss Me Kate is a Roundabout Theatre production which will have our stars play two egotistical performers who get divorced then find themselves playing opposite each other on the stage.  Kiss Me Kate is the musical version of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew.  The show is written by Bella and Sam Spewak and previews at New York’s Studio 54 Theatre on February 14 with an opening night scheduled for March 14, 2019.  Kiss Me Kate will be directed by Broadway’s mainstay Scott Ellis.  This revival of Kiss Me Kate will be the first one in twenty years since the last one which starred Marin Mazzie and Brian Stokes Mitchell.  Those performances by Marin and Brian were spectacular and so will this one.  With Kelli O’Hara and Will Chase, I know Kiss me Kate is headed for some Tony Award nominations in 2019 as well.  For information about Kiss Me Kate or to obtain tickets, kindly call Applause-Tickets at 212-307-7050.

AIN’T TOOPROUD-THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE TEMPTATIONS- could this show become another musical hit Jersey Boys has become?  With directoe Des McAnuff leading the way with this brand new Broadway production, it is becoming increasingly clear that it may very well start selling out at New York’s Imperial Theatre.  This new show which previews on February 28 with a scheduled opening night of March 21, 2019, our team at Applause-Tickets has a feeling this show might become one of the hits of the 2018-2019 Broadway season.  Ain’t Too Proud-The Life and Times of The Temptations has been written by Dominique Morisseau with choreography by Broadway regular Sergio Trujillo.  The show has already played at Berkeley Rep followed by Kennedy Center as well as Los Angeles and Toronto productions.  The storyline, similar to Jersey Boys in years past, will track the origin of the famous R&B musical quintet called The Temptations.  We’ll get to see their rise from the streets of Detroit to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and the story will depict typical family issues like loyalty, betrayal and the very important political civil rights concerns of the times.  Songs that will be familiar to many include “My Girl”, “Papa Was A Rolling Stone”, “Just My Imagination” and so many more we can all sing and dance to for sure.  For tickets and information, consider a call to Applause-Tickets at 212-307-7050.

KING LEAR arrives at New York’s Cort Theatre on West 48th street starring recent Tony Award winner Glenda Jackson (Three Tall Woman) with previews starting February 28 and an opening night scheduled for April 4, 2019.  King Lear is Shakespeare’s play.  We will witness King Lear getting older and his desire to divide his estate among his three daughters but he refuses to give his most favorite younger daughter her share as she cannot admit her love for him.  King Lear is directed by Sam Gold.  In addition to Ms. Jackson, the cast will include Elizabeth Marnel, Jane Houdysell, Ruth Wilson and Pedro Pascal.  King Lear is a strictly limited engagement and plays for 19 weeks only.

GARY: A SEQUEL TOTITUS ANDRONICUS is a new comedy starring Nathan Lane(three time Tony Award winner), Andrea Martin(two time Tony Award winner) and Kristine Nielsen.  The show starts previews at New York’s Booth Theatre located on west 45th Street previwing on March 5 prior to an opening night slated for April 11, 2019.  This play takes place right after William Shakespeare’s first tragedy called Titus Andronicus has concluded.  During the Roman Empire, after the bloddy wars have ended and there are no more civil wars, we find that madmen have stolen the country and two lowly servants have the uncanny job of cleaning up the bodies.  The show is directed by the incomparable George C. Wolfe with a book Taylor Mac.  For tickets and show information, consider a call to the local experts at Applause-Tickets at 212 307 7050.  The web site is www.applause-tickets.com

WHAT THE CONSTITUTION MEANS TO ME has Obie Award winner Heidi Schreck portaying herself some years after as a 15 year old,  she paid for her own college education by giving speeeches about the United States Constitution.  Heidi will show the effects of the Founding Fathers document on genertions of woman, including her own family members, beginning with her great-great grandmother, who was a mail-order bride from Germany who died under mysterious circumstances.  What The Constitution Means To Me will play a limited engagement only through June 9, 2019 with previews starting on March 14 prior to a March 21 opening night.  The book is written by Heidi Schreck with direction by Oliver Butler in this one-woman show.

BURN THIS will play the Hudson Theatre in this great revival of a play about a young man named Pale, the owner of a restaurant who falls for a dancer named Anna in downtown New York in the 1980’s.  Pale and Anna’s troubles begin as they share in the tragic loss of Pale’s brother and Anna’s roomate and dance partner.  Burn This previews March 15 with an opening night scheduled for April 16.  Burn This has a book written by Lanford Wilson and is directed by Michael Mayer.  And how about getting to see some of the world’s most incredibly talented actors- Adam Driver and Keri Russell?  What a great time at the theater this is a going to be.  For tickets and information kindly call Applause-Tickets at 212 307 7050.

HILLARY ANDCLINTON transfers from Off Broadway to the John Golden Theatre and  previews on March 16 prior to a April 18, 2019 opening night.  The book is written by Lucas Hnath with direction by Joe Mantello.  A fabulous cast starring John Lithgow and Laurie Metcalf is sure to please audiences each and every moment on stage.  Hillary and Clinton will have a good look at the political implications of marriage and gender roles as Hillary Clinton, a former First Lady, is at odds against her husband Bill as well as Mark, her campaign manager, as she struggles with trying to keep her bid to become President of the United States during the 2008 primary campaign.  Does this sound familiar to you?

OKLAHOMA- Wow! The Revival of a classic old fashioned Broadway musical from 1943 gets an incredible reimagining in this production that begins performances on March 19 with an opening night of April 7, 2019.  This limited engagagement is scheduled to play only through September 1 and has us learn the story of a confident cowboy who must compete against a mysterious and unruly farmhand as they vy for the honor of taking a beautiful young lady who also works on the farm, to a local dance.  The book and music and lyrics are written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.  Direction is by Daniel Fish.

BEETLEJUICE comes to Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre this Spring.  With previews starting on March 28 with an opening night slated for April 25 (just in time to receive some much coveted Tony Award nominations), this new musical is based on the Tim Burton film called Beetlejuice.  This production comes to Broadway from Warner Brothers Theatre Ventures.  Beetlejuice will star Alex Brightman (School of Rock) and Sophia Anne Caruso.  Beetlejuice is a new musical comedy based on the 1988 film about a couple who move into their new house and hire an exorcist with hopes of removing a very disturbing ghost that’s harrasing the teenager in the family.  The teenager, Lydia, is obsessed with the “whole being dead thing”.

HADESTOWN is a new folk opera musical that arrives at the Walter Kerr Theatre  and previews on March 22 with opening night set for April 17, 2019.  Hadestown originally played Off Broadway in 2016 and in Canada as well.  It’s currently finishing its run at the National’s Olivier Theatre on January 26.  The folk opera of the same name, Hadestown, follows Orpheus mythical quest to overcome Hades and regain the love of his life- Eurydice.  The music combines New Orleans Jazz with American Folk Music.   The book of this musical is written by Anais Mitchell with direction by Rachel Chavkin.

TOOTSIE is a new musical I personally am really excited about.  It arrives at New York’s Marquis Theatre on west 46th Street with previews beginning on March 29 and opening night scheduled for April 23, 2019.  Based on the film of the same name, Tootsie (Dustin Hoffman was the lead in the film) tells the story of a very talented yet “perfectionist” type actor by the name of Michael Dorsey who continuously struggles to find work until he reinvents himself as an actress to win a part in a show.  Music and Lyrics are by the incredibly talented David Yazbek with Book by Robert Horn, Choreography by Denis Jones and Direction by Scott Ellis.  Tootsie could very well become this seasons breakout hit show.  Fingers crossed my friends.

INK is a new play which takes place in 1969 in London.  We get to witness  media mogul Rupert Murdoch who purchases a failing newspaper called The Sun with the goal of turning it into the everyday “must read” smash.  Not only that but his ultimate goal is to annihilate the competition by bringing on an editor who recruits a team of reporters  not very likely to succeed.  Ink is written by James Graham with direction by Rupert Goould.  The show will begin previews on April 2 prior to a April 24, 2019 opening night.  I’m hoping this play is a great one.

ALL MY SONS is a revival of a 1947 Arthur Miller play that will preview on April 4 with an opening night slated for April 22, 2019.  The show will play at the American Airlines Theatre and be directed by Jack O’Brien.  This production of All My Sons will star Annette Bening (Golden Globe winner) and Tracy Letts (Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright) in a show that finds the Keller family as they struggle to keep their family together in the aftermath of World War II and make a better future for themselves.  A long kept secret is about to emerge, something that makes them deal with their post-war unhappiness that transcends generations.

MOULIN ROUGE! THEMUSICAL is being brought to the stage in this adaption of Baz Luhrman’s 2001 Oscar nominated movie musical about a poet who falls deeply entranced with a cabaret singer.  Moulin Rouge! The Musical will star Aaron Tveit, Karen Olivo and Danny Burstein.  The show will start at the beginning of the 2019-2020 Broadway season and play the Al Hirschfeld Theatre with previews starting on June 28 prior to an opening night on July 25, 2019.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about the shows that are coming to life on Broadway for the balance of the 2018-2019 season as much as I enjoyed bringing them to you.  We’d love for you to pass this post along to friends, colleagues and family members that might find it interesting.  And if you want to talk about Broadway Theatre or need advice on how to obtain tickets for some of these shows, we look forward to you calling our local Broadway ticket experts at Applause-Tickets.  We can be reached at 212-307-7050 seven days a week.  And you can have a look at our web site at www.applause-tickets.com.  We love the theater and love talking to our clients about which shows to see.  Enjoy live theatre my friends, there’s nothing like it!

Broadway Favorite Waitress To Open In London Next Month

WaitressWow! Are you in for a treat London theatergoers. And no, I am not talking about the delicious food in the show. Waitress, which is in it's third year on Broadway, is set to begin performances at the Adelphi Theatre in London on February 9. Now If I'm being honest, the movie is a personal favorite of mine.

So, you can imagine how excited I was when they announced a few years ago, that it was becoming a Broadway musical. Not only that, but the score was being written by the talented singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles. And of course playing the title role, was none other than Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller.

Does it get any better than that? Now while Miss Mueller will not be recreating her award winning performance as waitress and pie maker Jenna, they have lined up a pretty awesome replacement if I must say. American Idol finalist, actress and singer/songwriter Katherine McPhee.

Who by the way, played the role from February thru August of last year. It was also recently announced, that Emmy Award nominee Jack McBrayer (30 Rock) will be joining Miss McPhee for the London production. By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see the show, you are in luck. We sell it. Get your tickets to see Katherine McPhee in Waitress at the Aldelphi Theatre in London. New Block Of Seats Now On Sale For To Kill A Mockingbird

To Kill A MockingbirdExciting news theatre fans. This season's biggest hit is now on sale thru November 2019. To Kill A Mockingbird, which is based on the Harper Lee book of the same name, opened at the historic Shubert Theatre on December 13.

Adapted by Academy and Emmy Award winner Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, The West Wing), and directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher (Fiddler On The Roof, The King and I ), this powerful drama stars Emmy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Jeff Daniels (Blackbird, The Newsroom), as lawyer Atticus Finch.

Now not only was the show a hit with the critic's, but for the week ending December 30, 2018, the show was the highest grossing American play in Broadway history. Not too bad for a show based on a book that was published almost sixty-years ago.

By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see the show, you have come to the right place. We sell it. Well that and every new play and musical this season on Broadway. Get your tickets to see To Kill A Mockingbird on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

Mamma Mia Tickets
Today's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Florida. Pompano Beach to be exact. Saturday afternoon, I received a call from a very nice lady who was planning a trip to London in March with her daughter-in-law, and wanted to see a few shows while they were there. Her choices were Wicked, The Lion King, and Mamma Mia. Three excellent choices don't you think?

Now because they were going to be there for more than a week, I asked if they would like to spread the shows out a little. I mean it is London after all. They want to see as much as they can while they are there. Thankfully they agreed with me. Now while I have never been to any of the theaters in London, I have seen all three of her choices.

Therefore I knew where the best seats would be to get the best experience. For The Lion King, I wanted to see if I could find her really nice seats on the aisle, as the animals come down the aisles during the opening of the show. Well she loved that idea. For both Wicked and Mamma Mia, I ended up getting her amazing seats  as well. Not too close of course, but not too far away either. Plus for every show, the prices were lower than she was expecting. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Nicholas Sparks The Notebook Headed To The Stage

Image result for the notebook logoNow believe it or not, but I have never seen The Notebook. Not only that, but I've never even read the book. Trust me, I am surprised too. After all, I'm a hopeless romantic. But enough about me. You came here to get a little more info on the upcoming production of this classic love story.

Published in 1996, the Nicholas Sparks novel debuted on the New York Times Bestseller List in it's first week in release. Not too shabby. Now while the 2004 film received mixed reviews, it was a hit at the box office, and won multiple awards including eight Teen Choice Awards. Now here we are some twenty- two years later, and The Notebook is about to take the world by storm once again via the Broadway stage.

With a score by Platinum selling recording artist Ingrid Michaelson, and a book by writer and producer Bekah Brunstetter (This Is Us), The Notebook is being produced by three-time Tony Award winner Kevin McCollum (Rent, Avenue Q, In The Heights), and Grammy Award winner and President of Sh-K-Boom Records Kurt Deutsch. As of now, no further creative team or casting has been announced. Be sure to check this website for further updates. Until next time theatre fans.
