Disney's The Lion King On Broadway

November 13, 1997. The day the theatre landscape changed forever. Care to guess what I'm talking about? I'm guessing the title of the blog might give you a clue. That was the day that The Lion King opened on the Great White Way. Now while this was not Disney's first time on Broadway it was the show that proved that they were a force to be reckoned with from that point on. Since 1994 Disney has produced a total of six shows on Broadway. Their first show Beauty and the Beast ran for over thirteen years.

Aida which was to date their only musical not based on a cartoon ran for a total of 1,852 performances won four Tony Awards. Following the success of Mary Poppins which is now in it's fifth year on Broadway Disney returned to their catalog of hits and brought us Tarzan in 2006 and The Little Mermaid in 2007. Both were not successful and closed at a loss. You can't win them all I guess. Now while I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world I realize their importance to the theatre community.

They bring children to the theatre. For most it is their first Broadway show. Could be worse.Their first show could of been Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark. Trust me. Nobody wants that. I say it's time for Disney to do something original. Wishful thinking right? I know. How about a musical not based on a cartoon? I know it's hard to believe but Disney has produced some great movies over the years that are not animated. How about thinking outside of the box guys? After all The Lion King can't run forever. Until next time theatre fans.

Avenue Q Celebrates 2nd Anniversary

Three anniversary's in one week? That has got to be some kind of record theatre fans. Earlier this week Mamma Mia celebrated ten years on the Great White Way while yesterday marked the second anniversary of Tony winner Memphis. Tomorrow fellow Tony winner Avenue Q will celebrate it's second anniversary Off-Broadway. The show which won the Tony Award for Best Musical of the Year in 2004 first opened on Broadway at the Golden Theatre in August 2003 where it played until September 13, 2009 making it the 21st longest running show in Broadway history. Not bad for a show about a bunch of puppets living in New York City. Most people forget that the show actually started Off-Broadway before moving to uptown. Not only that but that it beat the all and powerful Wicked for that year's top prize. Yes I know all you Wicked fans will never forget that. I just like to remind you from time to time. No harm in that right? Now for those of you who still haven't seen Avenue Q there is no better time than right now. Good seats are available for all performances and at some incredible savings. Get your tickets to see Avenue Q. You will laugh your a** off. I know I did.

Memphis Turns Two

That's right theatre fans. Tony winning musical Memphis is celebrating it's second anniversary on Broadway. The show which won four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical of the Year opened at the Shubert Theatre on October 19, 2009. Now while I will admit that I am not the biggest fan of the show there is no denying it's popularity. After all a show doesn't run two years for nothing. By the way for those of you who still haven't seen the show yet you now have an extra reason for seeing it. Tony nominee and Rent star Adam Pascal will joining the show on October 25 in the lead role of Huey Calhoun. Now if that doesn't make you want to see it then I don't know what will. Good seats are now available for all performances. Not only that but if you call right now you can get tickets to see this award winning musical for below face value. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru December 22 it is not valid for Saturday evening performances and subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Memphis on Broadway. Mamma Mia To Celebrate Anniversary

October 18, 2001. Anyone know what happened on that date? Well based on the title of my blog it shouldn't be too hard to figure out. That's right theatre fans. That is the day that the world wide sensation know as Mamma Mia opened on the Great White Way. The show which first premiered in London two years earlier had finally made it's way across the pond the previous month and was now set to take Broadway by storm. The only question is would American audiences be as enthusiastic as the rest of the world. Well considering that it we are still talking about the show ten years later would mean the answer to that is a resounding yes. Now believe it or not but I have never seen the show.

In fact in all the years that I have lived here I have never been inside the Wintergarden Theatre. That's right. I even managed to avoid Cats my first seven years here as well. Trust me. That wasn't too hard. Now for those of you ABBA fans who still haven't seen the show and by now I find it hard there is any of you left that haven't I have some good news. It is now possible to see your favorite musical for below face value. That's right. I said below face value. Let's face it in this day and age a bargain like this is hard to come by my friends. Might as well take advantage when you can. This "Special Offer" is good thru November 23 so don't delay. Get your tickets to see Mamma Mia on Broadway. Millions of ABBA fan's can' t be wrong. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

Two customer stories in a row? I must have nothing else to blog about right? Oh sure I could talk about Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark. I haven't made fun of that show for a least a couple of months. Been there. Done that. Or I guess I could tell you about how you can see over twenty-five shows for below face value. True. But I think I will save that for another day. After all where would we be without our customers? Out of business. That's where we would be. Now you do want that do you? I didn't think so. Anyway this past Saturday I received a call from a very nice lady who was in town with her two sons for the weekend and wanted to see if it was possible to get tickets last minute.

I asked her what she wanted to see and she had mentioned that her friends had seen The Addams Family while they were here in March and loved it. I told her that it was one of my favorites too. Plus because the show had been playing for awhile I would be able to get her excellent seats but for a much lower rate. Well she loved that. By the time we were finished I was able to get her tickets in the Center Mid-Mezzanine for $90 each. Which besides being a great view is less than she had seen anywhere else. Not only that but she said she would be sure to use us again and recommend us to all her friends to use us as well. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Sarah Palin country. Yes I am talking about Alaska. Now before you think I've gone all political I haven't. It's that the former Governor of Alaska was the only thing that came to mind. Anyway this past Saturday I received a call from a mother of two who was coming to New York with her family later this month and wanted to see if she could get tickets to see How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. I told her that even though the show was doing very well tickets should still be available. Not only that but since she wanted to see it during the week I told her that I would probabably be able to get her seats for below face value. For those of you who are not familiar with that term it basically means that we can obtain tickets for shows for less than they would be if you bought them from the theatre itself. Now while the seats I found for her weren't up front and center they were together and a full view. What more could you ask for really? Well how about the fact that they were lower than she had seen anywhere else?Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

The Economy's Effect On Broadway

Now unless you've been living under a rock for the past ten or twelve months you've probably heard that that we are in the middle of an economic crisis. Every day people are losing their jobs and companies both big and small are going bankrupt. Now in these trying times you would think that the last thing people would want to do is come to New York and see a show right? Well to be honest that's what I though too. The truth is are phones are still ringing and people are still buying tickets. Oh sure it's not like it was last year. It's not even like it was five or six months ago. The truth is Broadway isn't going anywhere and never will. Thank goodness for that. Without it I and many thousands of other people would be out of a job. Now you don't want that do you? I didn't think so. The truth is Broadway and theatre in general serve a purpose. To make us laugh. To make us cry and to make us think. Theatre is what makes the world a better place. Even if only for a little while. After all isn't that what we need now? I know we do.

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

Can you believe that October is halfway over? Before you know it will be Thanksgiving and then Christmas and New Years. Bring on 2012. As I sit here at my desk on a Sunday Friday afternoon I find myself at a loss for words. Now most of my friends would probably tell you that is not possible as they claim they can never get a word in edge wise when they are with me. Oh well. Now when it comes to my blogs I have a tendency to be brutally honest. Especially when it comes to certain shows. Now for the most part I can usually find at least one redeeming quality in every thing I see. I may dislike the show but may love one of the performers. Or I may love a particular song but hate the way the number was staged. No show is perfect. Quite frankly I like it when a show has a couple of flaws. Rent is my favorite show of all time but even that has a few things that could have been improved on. Like I said. No show is perfect. Regardless of what the show is there is only one thing that matters. Support live theatre. Wherever and whenever you can. After all the world would be a pretty sorry place without it. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the Sunshine state. That's right. I am talking about Florida. Fort Myers to be exact. Yesterday I received a call from one of my regular customers who was planning a trip to New York next month and wanted to see a couple of shows while she and her husband were here. I asked her what she wanted to see and she said she was hoping to get tickets to The Mountaintop and Seminar. I told her that not only would I be able to get her excellent seats but probably at a reduced rate as she was coming the week before Thanksgiving. Well she loved that. By the time it was all said and done I was able to get her center seats in the Front Mezzanine for both shows and for below face value. No wonder she's been a regular customer of mine for over three years. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Broadway Revival Of Godspell Now In Previews

Now believe it or not but I have never seen a production of Godspell. As a matter of fact I've never seen the movie either. Oh sure I know a couple of the songs but that's about it. The show which will mark's it's first time on Broadway since 1977 first premiered Off-Broadway in 1971 where it ran for over five years before transferring to the Broadhurst Theatre on Broadway in 1976. Prior to closing in September 1977 it also played at both the Plymouth and Ambassador Theatre. Three Broadway theatres in less than a year and a half? That has got to be a record theatre fans.

Previews are set to begin tonight at the Circle In The Square Theatre with opening night scheduled for November 7. By the way for those of you who want tickets to see this Tony nominated musical then you have come to the right place. From now thru December 23 you can see Godspell for below face value. That's right. I said below face value. Now for those of you that are not familiar with the Circle in the Square it is one of Broadway's smallest theatre. Not only that but it is in the round. That means all the seats ar great. How many theatre's can say that? Get your tickets to see Godspell on Broadway. God will be watching. Will you?

Can you believe the holidays are almost here? Halloween is twenty days away and before you know it Thanksgiving will be here. Then Christmas and New Years. Time sure does fly doesn't it? Now believe it or not but in all the years that I have lived here I have never seen The Nutcracker. I've never even seen the Radio City Christmas Spectacular either. Now before you go thinking I must be some kind of "Scrooge" I am not.

I just feel those are the type of shows you would see with your family or your significant other. Now considering the fact that my parents live over eight hundred miles away and I don't have a girlfriend then for the moment I will not be seeing either show. See I told you I wasn't a "Scrooge" didn't I? By the way for those of you who want tickets to see The Nutcracker you have come to the right place my friends.

Betty Suarez Meets Roxie Hart

Let me guess. You have no idea what the title of my blog means do you? Now of course you recognize the name Roxie Hart right? Why it's the merry murderess from the long running musical Chicago of course. Now for those of you that don't know who Betty Suarez is she is the title character from the dearly departed and one of my favorite television shows "Ugly Betty". Still don't know what I'm talking about do you? That's o.k. I know I can be a bit confusing at times.Yesterday it was announced that Emmy winner America Ferrera is set to join the London production of Chicago for eight weeks beginning on November 7.

It was also announced that Ms. Ferrera will return to the stage in the Spring. However this time she will play the Great White Way in a revival of Miss Firecracker Contest by Beth Henley. The show which launched the career of Academy and Emmy winner Holly Hunter debuted Off-Broadway in 1984. This new production to be directed by two-time Tony winner Judith Ivey is set to begin rehearsals in March 2012. I for one can't wait as I have had admired Ms. Ferrera for years now. Besides being a brilliant actress she is one of the most beautiful women on the planet. I can't wait. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes from the great state of Alabama. Mobile to be exact. Now as I've stated in many of my blogs over the years we have a very large travel agent base. Make that a very loyal large travel agent base. Let's face without you travel agents and your continued business over the years Applause would cease to exist. Thank you for your business and thank you for coming back year after year. Anyway this past Thursday I got a call from one of our regulars who was looking for tickets for one of her clients who was coming to New York in December and wanted to see a few shows while she was here. I told her I would be happy to help her and asked her what her client wanted to see.

Her choices were The Lion King, Blue Man Group, and everyone's favorite holiday show the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. I told her that not only would I be able to get her excellent seats but also at a great price. Well she loved that. I asked her when her client wanted to go and she told me she would be her from December 1-December 4. Which by the way in case you didn't know is the most crowded week in New York City. I know what you're thinking. "Isn't New York always crowed?" Yes it is. Especially during the month of December. However during that week something special happens that only occurs once a year. Care to guess what I'm talking about? Why the lighting of the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center of course.

Now after she gave me the dates I admit I hesitated a bit. Would I still be able to live up to my promise of getting her client the best seats at the best prices? In one word. Yes. After doing a little research I was able to get her center Orchestra seats for all three shows and at a price that was lower then her client had seen anywhere else. Another satisfied customer. Not so fast. Less than twenty-four hours later she called and said her client had changed her mind and wanted to see The Nutcracker instead of The Lion King and wanted to know if there was anyway we could switch it. Now normally when you purchase tickets from us or any other company the policy is very strict. No refunds or exchanges. However since she was a loyal customer and since I knew I would have no trouble reselling the tickets I told her it would be no problem. As I was saying. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

So here I sit on a surprisingly cold Saturday morning at my computer trying to think of something to blog about. This is not the first time this is happened and I guarantee you it will not be the last my friends. Since we started this blog site four years ago I have blogged on virtually every Broadway show. Sometimes more than once. I've written about how you can get tickets for below face value or give advice on where to eat or where to shop while while you are here. I've even blogged about myself and my musical career. Nothing like a little self promotion. The truth is at the end of the day it really doesn't matter what you say or how you say it but that you are passionate about what you are writing about. That's what I try to convey every time I write one of my blogs. Whether you like them or not is your prerogative. It is just one person's opinion after all.

Billy Elliot To Close January 2012

Sad news theatre fans. It was just announced that ten time Tony winner Billy Elliot will play it's final performance at the Imperial Theatre on June 8, 2012. When it closes it will have played a total of 40 preview and 1,304 regular performances. Last month I posted a blog about the show and how much i loved it. Those of you who have ready my blogs know that I had avoided the show since it first opened on Broadway in the fall of 2008. I honestly thought that I would hate it. Now that it's closing I'm glad that I saw it. Get your tickets to see Billy Elliot on Broadway. Time is running out.

This past weekend I received a call from a very nice lady who was planning a trip to our fair city in next May and wanted to see a couple of shows while she was here.Nothing like planning ahead. Anyway I asked her how she had heard about us and she told me she had read about us on the New York Pass website. For those of you who are not familiar with it is a company that offers discounts to over forty places to see while in New York. All of which are discounted and some free of charge. Now that's what I call a great deal.

She had seen that by getting the pass she could get tickets to a show for up to 10% off. I told her that not only was that true but for most shows I could save her even more. Well she loved that. I asked her what she wanted to see and she told me that even though both Wicked and The Lion King had already played in Canada several times over the years she never had gotten around to seeing them and didn't to miss them during her trip to the Big Apple. I told her that not only could I get her the best seats but at a price that was lower then she could get anywhere else. By the time we were done I was able to get here excellent seats for both shows and at price that was lower than she was expecting. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?
