Wicked Celebrates Anniversary

WickedIt seems like only yesterday, that I was sitting in the Gershwin Theatre a few days prior to it's opening. Now here we are all these years later, and Wicked is celebrating it's anniversary. In fact today mark's Wicked's thirtenth year on the Great White Way. Time sure does fly. Now I loved the show when I saw it. Although I'll be honest I wasn't sure what the critic's would have to say about it.

I take that back. I thought they would probably not take to it as well as other family friendly shows like The Lion King and Hairspray. I was right. Thankfully audiences didn't seem to care. Which is why I am still writing about the show all these years later. In fact I would not be surprised if Wicked is still here ten years from now.

Here's hoping I am right. By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see Wicked you are in luck. We sell it. Not only that, but we also sell tickets for the London production, as well as it's National tour. Get your tickets to see Wicked on Broadway or at a city near you. You will love it. Until next time theatre fans.

What To See In New York

Image result for new york city picsCan you believe that 2016 is almost over? Where or where has the time gone? It seems like only yesterday that I was recovering from New Year's Eve, and here we are about ready to celebrate it again.

Now one of the perks of working at Applause, is that we get invited to all the shows. That way when a customer calls and wants our opinion on what to see, we can tell them whether we liked them or not. Trust me my friends.

If I don't like a show, I won't tell you I did just to make a sale. Our job is to make sure our customers have the greatest experience possible. You see it's not always about making a sale. It's important to make the customer happy too.

After all isn't that what it's all about? Now for those of you coming to the big city in the next few months, I have some great news. Broadway is alive. Now I know what you're thinking. Was Broadway ever dead? Of course not. I'm just being a little dramatic I guess. As we speak there are twenty-nine shows playing on Broadway, with ten more scheduled to open in the coming months.

Now that is something to be excited about theatre fans. Oh and did I mention that most of those shows are available at "Insider Prices" as well? It just get's better and better. Now what if Broadway or dare I say Off-Broadway isn't your cup of tea? There are other things to see in New York besides Hamilton you know? How about checking out a Knicks or Rangers game while you're here? Or maybe you want to see a concert or go to the ballet?

After all New York City is the "Cultural Capitol of the World". That's why we are the greatest city in the World. O.K. O.K. so I may be a little partial, but you know it's true. So whether it's your first time visiting New York, or your tenth, you can be sure that you will have the time of your life. Until next time New York fans.

Christmas Is Just Around The Corner

Radio City Christmas Spectacular Now I know what you're thinking. Has he lost his mind? It's not even Halloween yet. Yes I know. But trust me my friends. The holiday's will be here before you know it. In fact the first performance of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular is just twenty-five days away. Now believe it or not, but in all the years that I have lived here I have never see it. Surprising right?

Although I did see last years Spring Spectacular. Although that one didn't have Santa Claus or his trusty little elves. Who knows? Maybe this will be the year that I will finally check it out. Stranger things have happened. Oh and by the way the Radio City Christmas Spectacular is not the only holiday themed show in town. There are two other's believe it or not. The first of course being George Balanchine's The Nutcracker.

The show, which has been a New York City staple since 1954, will begin performances at the David H. Koch Theatre on November 25. Two down. One to go. Care to guess the third and final holiday show this year? No it's not Elf or The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. It's everyone's favorite reindeer. That's right. I'm talking about Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer. The new musical, based on the beloved 1964 animated television special, is set begin performances on December 1, and play thru December 18, for a total of eighteen performances.

By the way, for those of you looking to purchase tickets for any of these shows, you are in luck. We sell them all. Not only that, but for both the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, as well as Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, you can get tickets to see them at some incredible rates. Get your tickets to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, The Nutcracker, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Your holidays will not be the same without it.

Natasha, Pierre, And The Great Comet Of 1812 Starring Josh Groban To Begin Performances Tonight

Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812That's right theatre fans. It's finally here. The Great Comet is headed to the Great White Way. Now technically the full name of the show is Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812. But I digress. The show, which begins previews tonight at the Imperial Theatre, is scheduled to open on November 14. So what exactly is the show about?

Besides that it stars Josh Groban of course. Set in eighteenth century Russia, prior to Napoleon's invasion, this new musical tells the story of wealthy aristocrat Pierre, who meets the newly engaged but naïve Natasha, and her supportive but scheming cousin Sasha.

While Natasha's fiancée and Pierre's best friend Andrey is off fighting for his country, Pierre looks after the two cousin's as the war continues. As the war rages on, engagements and hearts are broken as new romances begin to blossom.

Now while I didn't see the show during it's previous Off-Broadway engagement in 2013, I have heard nothing but great things about it. Here's hoping the show takes Broadway by storm. Tickets for the show are selling very well. Now that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. You may just have to spend a little more to get seats. Thankfully it is such a small theatre that there is not a bad seat in a house.

Oh and just in case you didn't know, they have added on stage seating, where you the audience seat at tables, as the action takes place around you. Now that sounds like a lot of fun to me. How about you? Get your tickets to see Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre. Expect the show to be a big contender at next year's Tony Awards. Until next time theatre fans.

Now Is The Best Time To See Broadway's Longest Running Show The Phantom Of The Opera

The Phantom of the OperaStill haven't seen The Phantom of the Opera yet? Well what are you waiting for people? I mean it's only been playing for a million years. O.K. I'm exaggerating a little bit. Tony Winners Patti Lupone And Christine Ebersole To Star In War Paint On Broadway Next Spring

Two of Broadway's most talented leading ladies returning to Broadway in the same show? Can it be true? It is theatre fans. It was just announced, that two-time Tony winners Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole will return to Broadway next Spring in War Paint.

The new musical, premiered at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago this past Summer, where it broke box office records, and went on to become the most successful show in the theatre's history. Now do you see why it's moving to Broadway?

Now to be honest, I knew nothing about the show prior to it's recent production, except it's stars of course, and the fact that it was being written by Scott Frankel and Michael Korie. They, along with Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Wright, wrote Grey Gardens, which starred Ms. Ebersole in her Tony winning role as "Little" Edie Beale. The show, which was nominated for ten 2007 Tony Awards, was directed by Michael Grief (Rent, Next To Normal) who is reunited with his Grey Gardens team once again.

Incidentally Mr. Grief will be pulling double duty this season, as he is also directing the highly anticipated Dear Evan Hansen, which is opening on Broadway this Fall. So what exactly is War Paint about? Well according to a production source, War Paint is based on the documentary film The Powder and Glory, by Ann Carol Grossman and Arnie Reisman. The show “tells the remarkable story of cosmetics titans Helena Rubinstein (LuPone) and Elizabeth Arden (Ebersole), who defined beauty standards for the first half of the 20th Century.

Brilliant innovators with humble roots, both women were masters of self-invention who sacrificed everything to become the country’s first major female entrepreneurs. They were also fierce competitors, whose 50-year tug-of-war would give birth to an industry that would forever change the face of America. From Fifth Avenue society to the halls of Congress, their intense rivalry was ruthless, relentless and legendary—pushing both women to build international empires in a world dominated by men.”

Sounds pretty interesting don't you think? But don't take my word for it. Check out these amazing reviews from the Chicago production.

Broadway Smash An American In Paris Heading To The West End

An American In Paris TicketsThat's right London. An American In Paris is heading your way. The show, which won four 2015 Tony Awards, including Best Choreography, played it's final performance on Broadway this past Sunday. Now it's headed across the pond. Performances are scheduled to begin on March 4, 2017 at the Dominion Theatre. Now having never seen the film I wasn't sure what to expect the night I went to see it.

All I knew was that it had a score by George and Ira Gershwin, who I love, and of course had a lot of dancing. Cut to two and a half hours later and I was in heaven. What an amazing night at the theatre. I only wish I would have gotten to see it again before it closed. Oh well. I guess I could head on over to "Merry Old England" and see it there.

Oh and just in case you needed another reason to see it, it was recently announced that it's two Tony nominated stars, Robert Fairchild and Leanne Cope, will be reprising their roles for the London production. It just get's better and better my friends. And did I also mention that we are selling tickets to the show as well? In fact we sell tickets to every show and event in London. Who knew? London Production of The Phantom Of The Opera Celebrate's Milestone

The Phantom of the OperaHas it really been thirty years since The Phantom of the Opera took the world by storm? Time sure does fly. The show, which premiered in London on October 9, 1986, at Her Majesty's Theatre, continues to play to packed houses eight times a week. Growing up in the Midwest, I wasn't exposed to a lot of theatre except for the shows I performed in, or ones I saw at my local community theatre. Then a little show called The Phantom of the Opera entered my life. To this day it is still one of my favorite shows.

I mean how can you not love the show? It's got everything. Romance, a thrilling story, plus one of the most beautiful scores ever written for the theatre. Oh and did I mention that since the show opened, it has grossed over five billion dollars, and has been seen by over a hundred and thirty million people, in a hundred forty-five cities across twenty-seven countries. I guess I'm not the only one who loves the show now am I? I didn't think so. Here's to another thirty years! Until next time theatre fans.

New Play Starring Laurie Metcalf And Chris Cooper To Premiere On Broadway Next Spring

Laurie Metcalf and Chris CooperWait a minute. Two of my favorite actor's appearing on stage in a new Broadway play? I must be dreaming right? Well that would be one heck of a dream my friends. Thankfully for all of us it is not. A Doll's House, Part 2, a new play by Lucas Hnath, will begin previews at the John Golden Theatre on April 1, 2017, with opening night scheduled for April 27.

Now you've all heard of A Doll House right? The play, which was written by Henrik Ibsen, first premiered at the Royal Theatre on Copenhagen in 1879. Wow. I knew it was old play. I just didn't know it was that old. This new production, which is being directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold, (Fun Home) takes place immediately following the final scene of A Doll House, where Nora Helmer, storms out after discovering her husband's betrayal. The show ends with the audience not knowing if she ever returns.

Now thanks to A Doll House, Part 2, we will finally find out what happened to Nora following her dramatic departure. Here's hoping it is just as interesting as her previous tale. Oh and don't forget the most important thing. It is starring Emmy winner and Tony nominee Laura Metcalf, along with Academy Award winner Chris Cooper. Now do you see why I thought I was dreaming? An on sale date for the show has yet to be announced. However you can be rest assured that when it does, we will be selling them. A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

Can you believe it's already October? I sure can't. I mean it seems like only yesterday that I was standing along the East River enjoying the fireworks. Now here we are with Thanksgiving less than two months away. Now I've been selling tickets for almost eighteen years now. Not only do I sell tickets to each and every show but I have seen most of these shows as well. I guess you could say I am a "Broadway Expert" if you will.

Now choosing which show to see can be difficult. After all there are many to choose from. In fact between now and the end of the year there will be a total of thirty seven productions playing on the Great White Way. Four of which are brand new musicals. Now that is something to be excited about. Plus I'm guessing you might want to know what those shows are right? Well here you go.

A Bronx Tale

Dear Evan Hansen

In Transit

Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812

Now do you see why I'm so excited? Oh and did I mention that we will be selling all of those shows as well? Not only that but both A Bronx Tale and In Transit are available at an "Insider Rate". Who doesn't love a bargain? I know I do. And don't forget Applause is open seven days a week, 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all of your ticket needs. So why not give us a try? You'll be glad you did. Until next time theatre fans.
