Off-Broadway Revival Of Little Shop Of Horrors Now In Previews

One of my favorite movies growing up was Little Shop of Horrors starring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Vincent Gardenia, Steve Martin, and Bill Murray. The movie, which was based on the long running Off-Broadway production, premiered on the big screen in 1986. Now while it grossed less at the box office than expected, it soon turned into a hit following it's release on VHS and Beta.

Yes that's right kids. I said Beta. Now here we are thirty-three years later, and this beloved musical is headed back to the Off-Broadway stage. Only this time instead of playing at an the intimate Orpheum Theatre in the East Village, it has moved uptown just steps from Time Square at the Westside Arts Theatre.

Directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening, Hedwig and the Angry Inch), and featuring music by Tony and Academy Award winner, and book and lyrics by Academy Award winner Howard Ashman, Little Shop of Horrors stars Tony Award nominee's Jonathan Groff and Tammy Blanchard as co-workers Seymour and Audrey, and two-time Tony Award winner Christian Borle as Orin.

Tickets for the limited production have been flying out the door ever since they went on sale. Now that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. It just means you have to spend a little more to get them. Get your tickets to see Little Shop of Horrors Off-Broadway at the Westside Arts Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Cast Announced For Broadway Production Of Bob Dylan Musical Girl From The North Country

Girl From the North CountryLast month, I posted a blog about the upcoming Broadway production of Girl From The North Country. At the time, all I knew is where it was playing, and that it featured a score by music legend Bob Dyan, and a book by Tony and Olivier Award nominee Conor McPherson.

Earlier today, the cast for the upcoming Broadway production was announced. And as expected, the entire Off-Broadway cast is reprising their roles, minus Stephen Bogardus, who is being replaced by Jay O. Sanders.

So who are these band of players that are recreating their original roles in this critically acclaimed production? Well I'll tell you. They are Tony Award nominees Marc Kudisch, David Pittu, and Mare Winningham, along side Todd Almond, Jeannette Bayardelle, Matthew Frederick Harris, Caitlin Houlahan, Robert Joy, Luba Mason, Ben Mayne, Tom Nelis, Colton Ryan, John Schiappa, Kimber Elayne Sprawl, Rachel Stern, and Chelsea Lee Williams.

Set in Duluth, Minnesota, during the height of the Great Depression, Girl From The North Country, tells the tale of the Laine family, owners of the local guesthouse, who's future is being threatened with foreclosure by the bank. By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see the show you are in luck. We sell it. Get your tickets to see Girl From The North Country on Broadway at the Belasco Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

FrozenToday's customer story comes all the way from the "Peach State". That's right. I am talking about the great state of Georgia. Rome to be exact. A few days ago, I got a call from a woman who came to us via her mother-in-law, who uses us all the time. Now that's what I call a loyal customer.

So anyway, after finding out when they would be here, I asked her what she wanted to see, and more importantly what they wanted to spend. Their first and only choice? Why none other than Disney's Frozen. Now of course, she picked one of the most popular times of the year.

The day before New Year's Eve to be exact. Thankfully, I was still able to find her excellent seats in the Center Front Mezzanine, and on the aisle. Not too mention I was able to get them for her for less than she had seen on another site.

So there you have it folks. Another satisfied customer. Wait a minute. Not so fast. Since this was a special Christmas gift for her daughter, she ended up getting two other shows while they were here. Plus I was able to hook them up with some great restaurant suggestions as well. Let's try it again. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Broadway Revival of Edward Albee's Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf Announces Theatre

Image result for edward albee's who's afraid of virginia woolf logoThat's right theatre fans. One of this season's most highly anticipated shows has found it's home. Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, which was last revived on Broadway in 2012, is set to begin previews at the Booth Theatre on March 3, 2020, with opening night scheduled for April 9.

Directed by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello (Wicked), the show stars two-time Tony Award winner Laurie Metcalf, who's role in this production marks her fifth consecutive season on Broadway.

I guess she loves theatre huh? Starring along side Ms. Metcalf is stage and screen star Rupert Everett, who replaces the previously announced Eddie Izzard, as well as Russell Tovey, and 2019 Olivier Award winner Patsy Ferran.

Now for those of you that are not familiar with the show, here is a brief synopsis to tell you a little more. Set over the course of one evening, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, tells the story of long suffering married couple George and Martha, who spend the evening entertaining George's fellow colleague Nick and his wife Honey at their home.

As day turns into night, alcohol, not too mention some hidden secrets soon turn both couples world's upside down. Now that sounds like my type of show. Now for those of you who want tickets to see this classic drama, you are in luck. We sell it. Get your tickets to see Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf of Broadway at the Booth Theatre. Expect the show to be a big contender at next year's Tony Awards. Until next time theatre fans.

Pre-Broadway Engagement Of The Devil Wears Prada To Open In Chicago Next Year

Image result for the devil wears prada musical logoLet me just start off by saying that I have never see The Devil Wears Prada. Don't get me wrong. I love Meryl Streep. I even kind of like Anne Hathaway. But who cares what I think?

After all the movie was a huge hit grossing over three hundred and fifty million dollars at the box office.

The show, which is based on Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel, as well as the 2006 film, is set to begin performances on July 14, 2020 at the James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago.

Directed by Tony Award winner Anna D. Shapiro (August: Osage County), The Devil Wears Prada features music by Tony Award winner Sir Elton John (The Lion King), lyrics by Shania Taub, and a book by Paul Rudnick (Jeffrey). As of now, no on sale date has been announced. Be sure to check this website for further updates. Until next time theatre fans.

David Mamet's American Buffalo To Return To Broadway In 2020

Image result for american buffalo play logoLet's see now. A brand new revival of American Buffalo by David Mamet, starring Tony Award winner Laurence Fishburn and Academy Award winner Sam Rockwell. Well I'm sold. The show, which first premiered on Broadway in 1977, takes place over a period of one day in a run down junk shop in Chicago.

Donny (Laurence Fishburn), who owns the junk shop, has recently sold a buffalo nickel to a customer for ninety dollars. Not bad for 1975. The only problem is that the coin may be worth a whole lot more. So what does he do? He cons his young employee Bobby, and his poker buddy Teach (Sam Rockwell) into helping him get in back.

Now I'll admit I was a little underwhelmed by the 2008 production. That one starred John Leguizamo, Cedric The Entertainer, and Haley Joel Osment and closed after twenty previews and eight performances. Not exactly a hit theatre fans. Here's hoping this new production fares a little better. Directed by Neil Pepe, American Buffalo is scheduled to begin previews in March 2020, with opening night set for April 14. As of now, no theatre or on sale date has been announced. Beetlejuice The Musical Is A Must See

BeetlejuiceA few days ago, I got the chance to see Beetlejuice on Broadway. As a matter of fact, it was my second time seeing this amazing show. Now believe it or not, but I have never seen the movie. I know. I must be the only one right? At least that's what my coworkers said when they find out that I had never seen it.

However as it turns out, never seeing the show was a good thing as I had no expectations going into it. Now for those of you who have seen the movie, you will not be disappointed. And for those of you who have never seen it,you will love it. I know I did. In fact, out of all the new shows that opened last season, Beetlejuice was far and away my favorite one.

And this is coming from someone who loved both Tootsie and Ain't Too Proud. By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see Beetlejuice, you have come to the right place. We sell it. Plus if you call right now, you can get tickets to see this zany musical at prices that can't be beat. Get your tickets to see Beetlejuice on Broadway at the Wintergarden Theatre. Dear Broadway Theatre Friends

If you still haven’t seen one of the most popular shows ever to play on Broadway, HAMILTON, or if you simply want to see the show again, now’s your chance to do so.  And for allot less money than since it begin playing to sold out audiences at New York’s Richard Rodgers Theater on West 46th Street in 2015.  In 2016, Hamilton was nominated for a record-setting 16 Tony Awards and won 11 of them including the year’s most coveted Best Musical Award.

As a ticket broker for 42 years now, I’ve seen allot of shows that were popular sellers but no one show has commanded the extremely high prices that Hamilton has.  Supply and demand for sure.  Though prices are still high for the premium and mid premium seats that are located up front by the stage, many other seats that offer nice viewing locations are now available, and at very reasonable prices.  And the theater is not very large for Broadway.

Hamilton is an American musical that tells the incredibly fascinating story of Alexander Hamilton, one of our country’s Founding Father’s as well as Treasury Secretary, and his rise from poverty to become one of the nation’s most powerful leaders.  The story is told against the backdrop of America’s War for Independence.

Hamilton is written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also wrote In The Heights on Broadway several years prior to Hamilton’s debut.  In The Heights won Best Musical honors in 2008.

Hamilton plays to hip-hop music and the cast and creative team has done a beautiful job with the entire production.  With audiences world wide cheering and wanting more at the end of each show.

I hope you’ll consider a call to Applause-Tickets located in the heart of NY City should you be interested in purchasing tickets for Hamilton or one of NY City’s other exciting Broadway Shows.  Whether you need reasonably priced tickets for Hamilton or one of the many  discounted shows playing on Broadway right now, our team of local Broadway ticket experts can help you get the most for your money.
