Customer Story

WaitressTodays' customer story comes all the way from our nations capitol. That's right. I am talking about Washington D.C. Yesterday, I received a call from a travel agent who was planning a last minute trip to New York City for the Thanksgiving holiday, and wanted to see a show while she was here. Anyway after finding out when she was going to be here, I asked her what she wanted to see.

As it turns out, her first and only choice was Waitress. Now because she was a travel agent, she was able to get a discount on each of her tickets. Which was a good thing because she was buying eight tickets in total. In the end, I got her and her party tickets in the Front Mezzanine, and at a price that was lower than she was expecting. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Get Tickets To See Charlie And The Chocolate Factory For Less With Applause Theatre Service

Charlie and the Chocolate FactoryStill haven't seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Well what are you waiting for people? There is no better time than right now, to see Broadway's favorite "Scrumdiddlyumptious" show of all time.  Like how I threw that in there? Growing up, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was one of my favorite movies. Not only that, but Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was one of the first books that I ever read.

Now here we are some three decades later, and one of my childhood favorites is a big Broadway musical. To say I was excited was an understatement. The show, which premiered in the West End in 2013, opened on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on April 23. Now to be honest, the reviews weren't the greatest. But who cares?

After all, Wicked didn't get rave reviews when it opened, and it's been playing to packed houses on Broadway for fourteen years. Now for those of you who want tickets to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you are in luck. We sell it. Plus if you call right now, we can get you tickets to see the show at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru February 28. 2017, it is for select seats, and as always subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Disney's The Lion King Celebrates Milestone

The Lion KingThat's right theatre fans. Disney's The Lion King is having a birthday. The show, which is based on the 1994 award winning film, will celebrate twenty years on Broadway tonight at the Minskoff Theatre. Now for those of you have read any of my previous blogs, know that I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world.

But even I know the impact that they have had on the New York theatre scene. Since it's premier in November 1997, the show has become the top grossing show in Broadway history, surpassing The Phantom of the Opera in 2014. Not bad for a musical based on a cartoon. Sorry. Animated film.

Now for those of you who still haven't seen the show, you have come to the right place. We sell it. In fact we sell every show both On and Off-Broadway. Get your tickets to see The Lion King on Broadway at the Minskoff Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway Revival Of Once On This Island Now In Previews

Once on This IslandOne of my favorite shows of all time is Once On This Island. Now when I found out that I was moving to New York, I was so excited. I mean it is the greatest city in the world after all. Plus I would get a chance to see this amazing musical. Unfortunately I moved here two months two late, as the show closed in December 1991.

Cut to some twenty-six years later and the eight-time Tony nominated show is headed back to the Great White Way. The show, which features a score by Tony winner's Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Anastasia), is set to open at the Circle in the Square Theatre on December 3.

Directed by Tony nominee Michael Arden (Spring Awakening), and choreographed by Camille A. Brown (Cabin In The Sky, tick, tick...BOOM!), Once On This Island stars Tony winner Lea Salonga (Miss Saigon, Allegiance) as Erzulie,Tony nominee Phillip Boykin (Porgy and Bess) as Tonton Julian, Merle Dandridge (Tarzan, Spamalot) as Papa Ge, Quentin Earl Harrington (Cats, Ragtime) as Agwe, Alex Newell (Glee) as Asaka, and Broadway newcomer Hailey Kilgore as Ti Moune.

Now that is some cast theatre fans. Now for those of you who want to see the show, I have some great news. It is now possible to get tickets to see Once On This Island at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru December 24, it is for selects seats only, and as always subject to availability. New Musical SpongeBob SquarePants To Begin Performances Tonight On Broadway

SpongeBob SquarePantsNow I'll be the first to admit that I have never seen one episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. Not one. But even I know how popular the show is. After all the show has been on the air for the better part of two decades. Now here we are in 2017 and SpongeBob SquarePants and his pals are ready to conquer Broadway. The show, which premiered in June 2016 at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago will officially open at the Palace Theatre on December 4.

The new musical, which is conceived and directed by Tina Landau, features a score by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, John Legend, Lady Antebellum, and Cyndi Lauper. Now like I said I've never seen the show, but with a lineup like that, I am a little intrigued.

Now I know what you're thinking. How do I get tickets? Well I guess you could wait until you get to New York and hope they are available. Or you could call one of the friendly ticket experts at Applause and we can get them for you. Plus if you call right now, we can get you tickets to see the show at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru February 15, it is for select seats only, and like always subject to availability. Broadway's Wicked Celebrates Anniversary

WickedHas it really been fourteen years since Wicked took the Great White Way by storm? Well it has. On October 30, 2003 Wicked opened at the at the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway. Since that time, it has played to packed houses eight times a week not only in New York, but at theatres around the world. Now while I loved the show when I first saw it,  I never expected the show would become as popular as it has.

I don't think anybody did. After all, the show got mixed reviews when it first opened. But what do the critics know right? Now for those of you haven't seen the show, you are in luck. We sell it. In fact we sell tickets for the London production, as well as tickets for it's National tour. Who knew? Get your tickets to see Wicked on Broadway at the Gershwin Theatre, or at a city near you. In fact on 46th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues, there are over twenty-five. I guess that's why they call it Restaurant Row huh? Now I don't know about you, but I just love a good steak. Although I have been known to eat Mexican and Italian.

I even like sushi. Well once in a while. But that's what is so great about New York City. There truly is something for everyone. The only thing you have to ask yourself is which one do you choose? Well thanks to the experts at Applause Theatre and Entertainment Service, we can do the work for you.

Jersey Boys To Return To New York Next Month

Image result for jersey boys logoExciting news theatre fans. One of Broadway's most celebrated shows is headed back to the Big Apple. Only this time it's headed Off-Broadway. Jersey Boys, which won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Musical of the Year, is set to begin previews at New World Stages on November 22, with opening night to be announced.

Now when the show was first announced back in 2005, I admit I was a little intrigued. After all I did love the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Although to be honest they were a little ahead of my time. Cut to six months later, and the show opens to rave reviews, and goes on to win award after award.

Now as much as I loved their music, I have never been too big on shows with a lot of hype. It's probably the reason why it took me so long to see Billy Elliot or Hamilton. Three years later I finally saw the show. So I know what you must be thinking. Did I like it? No I didn't. I loved it.

I can't believe I waited so long to see it. That will teach me I guess. Now as much as I loved the show, I assumed that after it closed earlier this year, it would be a very long time before we would see this show again in New York City. I was wrong. Trust me. It won't be the last time. Tickets for the show are now on sale. Not only that, but we are selling it. Get your tickets to see Jersey Boys at New World Stages. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

AladdinToday's customer story comes all the way from the "Hoosier State". That's right I'm talking about the great state of Indiana. Fisher's to be exact. A few days ago, I got a call from a mother of three who was coming to New York with her family for the first time.

Naturally they wanted to see a show while they were here. So after finding out when they would be here, I asked her what they wanted to see. Well as it turns out, their first and only choice was Aladdin. No surprise there as it is the perfect show for the whole family.

Anyway after discussing prices and seats they settled on five tickets in the Center Mezzanine, which by the way is a great view. Plus the tickets ended up being cheaper than they were expecting. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Customer Story

WickedToday's customer story comes all the way from the great state of North Carolina. Charlotte to be exact. Last week, I received a call from a gentleman who was bringing his family to New York during the Thanksgiving holidays, and wanted to see a show while they were here.

Their choice? One of Broadway's biggest hits of all time. That's right, I'm talking about Wicked. So after finding out what he wanted to see, I asked him where he wanted to sit, and more importantly how much he wanted to spend. After all buying tickets for six people can be expensive.

Thankfully he had the New York Pass, which not only entitles them to discounts on theatre tickets, but discounts on museums, shops, and tours as well. In the end, I got them great seats in the Front Mezzanine, and at a price that was lower than they had seen on another site. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Exciting news theatre fans. One of my favorite actor's and yours, is headed back to Broadway. John Lithgow, a two-time Tony and Emmy Award winner, will star in John Lithgow: Stories By Heart.

The show, which previously played throughout the United Sates and London, will begin previews at the American Airlines Theatre on December 21, with opening night scheduled for January 11.

John Lithgow: Stories By Heart, which the New York Times called, "a tour de force" is directed by Tony winner Daniel Sullivan. So what is the show all about? Well according to a production source, "Stories By Heart, evokes memories of family, explores and expands the limits of the actor's craft, and masterfully conjures a cast of indelible characters from classic short stories by Ring Lardner and P.G. Wodehouse."

Sounds like a great evening in the theatre to me. Tickets for the one man show are now on sale. Not only that, but we are selling them. Get your tickets to see John Lithgow: Stories By Heart on Broadway at the American Airlines Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Mean Girls On Broadway

Mean GirlsWhat's that you say? A hit movie turned into a big splashy Broadway musical? That almost never happens. I'm kidding of course. After all, there have been twenty-nine shows since 1995 that have been nominated for Best Musical that were based on successful movies.

Nine of which took home the top prize. Now it's Mean Girls turn. The show, which is based on the 2004 hit film, will begin previews at the August Wilson Theatre on March 12, 2018, with opening night scheduled for April 8. Oh but wait. It get's better.

Writing the book for the new musical, is the film's original screenwriter Emmy winner Tina Fey, with music by fellow Emmy winner Jeff Richmond (30 Rock), and lyrics by Tony nominee Nell Benjamin (Legally Blond). Direction and choreography is by Tony winner Casey Nicholaw.

Prior to it's Broadway production, the show will play at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. from October 31-December 3. Tickets for both productions are now on sale. Not only that, but we are selling them. Get your tickets to see Mean Girls on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre, and at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. Until next time theatre fans.

All Star Cast To Headline Kenneth Lonergan's Lobby Hero On Broadway

One of my favorite movies of the past year was Manchester By The Sea. I know. I know. What does that have to do with today's blog? Well it's because the film's director and screenwriter, who by the way won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay this year, is also the author of Lobby Hero.

The show, which first premiered Off-Broadway in March 2001, is set to begin previews at the soon-to-be newly renovated Helen Hayes Theatre on March 1, 2018, with opening night scheduled for March 26. Leading the cast are three of Hollywood's hottest young stars. Making his Broadway debut along side Michael Cera (Arrested Development, Superbad), who himself made his Broadway debut three years ago, is Chris Evans (Captain America, Fantastic Four).

Joining them in the celebrated drama is Brian Tyree Henry (The Book of Mormon), who received an Emmy nomination this year for NBC'S breakout hit This Is Us. Set in a Manhattan apartment building during the wee hours of the evening, Lobby Hero follows a security guard in his late twenties, his strict supervisor, and an overbearing cop and his rookie female partner.

Now I know what you're thinking. Who is the lucky young lady who get's to act along side this trio of talented actor's? You're guess is good as mine. Stay tuned to this site for further updates. Get your tickets to see Lobby Hero on Broadway at the Helen Hayes Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

New Play The Parisian Woman Starring Uma Thurman To Open On Broadway This Fall

Image result for the parisian woman logoUma Thurman on Broadway in a brand new play? Well I'm sold. The Parisian Woman, which is written by Broadway newcomer Beau Willimon (House of Cards), is set to begin previews at the Hudson Theatre on November 7, with opening night scheduled for November 30.

So what is the show all about? Well according to a show spokesperson, The Parisian Woman is based on Henry Becque’s late 19th century comedy La Parisienne. However the major difference with this new production is that it takes place in present day Washington D.C.

I can just see the fireworks now can't you? Plus it was recently announced that the play will change week to week in order to reflect on the current political climate. Sounds like an episode of Saturday Night Live. Let's hope the actor's are up for it. Starring along side Academy Award nominee Uma Thurman is Josh Lucas (Sweet Home Alabama, Hulk), Tony winner Blair Brown (Copenhagen, The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd), Tony Award nominee Phillipa Soo (Hamilton, Amelia), and Marton Csokas (Loving, Into The Badlands).

The show, which is being directed by Tony Award winner Pam MacKinnon (Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, A Delicate Balance), is set to begin previews at the Hudson Theatre on November 7, with opening night scheduled for November 30. Tony and Oscar Winner Mark Rylance To Return To Broadway In Farinelli and the King

Image result for farinelli and the king logoOne of this season’s most highly anticipated shows is Farinelli and the King. The show, which stars three-time Tony Award winner and 2016 Academy Award winner Mark Rylance, is set to begin previews at the Belasco Theatre on December 5, with opening night scheduled for December 17.

The show, which first opened at the Shakespeare’s Globe in 2015 prior to it’s sold out run in the West End, is written by Claire van Kampen, AKA Mrs. Mark Rylance, and directed by John Dove.

So what exactly is the show about? Well I’ll tell you. Farinelli and the King, tells the story of King Philippe V of Spain (Mark Rylance), who suffers from insomnia, leaving him bedridden. The queen, whose prior attempts at a solution have failed, discovers Farinelli, a castrato who's angelic voice mesmerizes all who come in contact with it.  However there is only one problem. Will Farinelli, the world renowned singer, give up fortune and fame to remain at the beck and call for Spain’s reigning monarch? I guess you will have to buy a ticket to find out. Tickets for the critically acclaimed new play have been selling like crazy when it was first announced back in May. Get your tickets to see Farinelli and the King on Broadway at the Belasco Theatre. Broadway Revival Of A Children Of A Lesser God To Open On Broadway in 2018

Image result for children of a lesser god broadway logoI can’t tell you how excited I am to see this show. One of my favorite movies from the 1980’s was Children Of A Lesser God. The film, which was released in 1986, starred Academy Award winner William Hurt, and Marlee Matlin who won the Oscar for Best Actress in her film debut.

Not only that, but the original production which premiered in 1980, won the Tony Award for Best Play. Plus, both of its stars John Rubinstein, and Phyllis Frelich took home Tony’s for their performances as well.

Sounds like this show has some pretty big shoes to fill don’t you think? Thankfully this new production, which stars television and film star Joshua Jackson (The Affair, Dawson’s Creek), and Broadway newcomer Lauren Ridloff, received rave reviews when it opened at the Berkshire Theatre Festival this June.

Previews for the new revival, which is being directed by Tony winner Kenny Leon (A Raisin In The Sun), will begin at Studio 54 on March 22, 2018, with opening night scheduled for April 11. As of now tickets for the show are not on sale. Check back here for future updates. Get your tickets to see Children Of A Lesser God on Broadway at Studio 54. Who knows? You just might see me there.
