Not only that, but most are available at prices that can't be beat. Who doesn't love a bargain? I know I sure do.The only question is what to see. I know I would pick those two if I had a choice. But hey that's me. That's the great thing about the theatre. There is something for everyone.

Broadway's Phantom Celebrates Anniversary

The Phantom of the OperaThat's right theatre fans. Broadway's longest running show is celebrating a birthday. The Phantom of the Opera, which first premiered in London in September 1986, will celebrate it's thirtieth anniversary on January 26. Growing up in a small town in the Midwest, my only exposure to theatre was the shows I starred in during my junior and high school career.

Then my junior year I discovered a musical that would change my life. Now up until that point, the only composers that I was familiar with were Rodgers and Hammerstein and Charles Strouse. So imagine my surprise when I heard the opening chords of the overture. Suffice to say it didn't take very long before I was hooked.

Cut to almost five years later, and I finally got to see the show live and in person. Now I know what you're thinking. Did I love it? You better believe I did. Even all these years later, it still remains one of my favorite theatrical experiences of all time. Here's to another thirty years. Until next time theatre fans.

Now Is The Best Time To Visit New York

Image result for new york city animated logoPlanning a trip to New York in the coming months? Well of course you are going to see a show or two while you are here right? After all New York is the theatre capitol of the world.

Now in the twenty plus years that I have lived here, I have seen hundreds of plays and musicals. Most I loved, and some well not so much. But that's the great thing about the theatre. There truly is something for everyone.

Now what if theatre isn't your cup of tea? I myself am a huge New York Knicks fan. What's that? You thought that going to a Broadway show was the only way to have fun? Well it's not.

New York is the cultural capitol of the world. Yes I know I said the same thing about the theatre. What can I say? New York City is the best. Oh and did I mention that we sell each and every show and event in New York City? Well we do. Oh but wait. It gets better. Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all of your ticket needs. So why not give us a try? You'll be glad you did.

Beautiful Celebrates Anniversary

Beautiful: The Carole King MusicalThat's right theatre fans. Beautiful is four years old. Maybe I should clarify. The award winning musical just celebrated it's fourth anniversary on the Great White Way. Now I'll be honest when the show was first announced in the Spring of 2013, I wasn't sure how it would do. Trust me. I'm sure I wasn't the only one. Don't get me wrong. I love Carole King. I always have.

It's just that jukebox musicals on Broadway have always been sort of hit or miss. For every Mamma Mia and Jersey Boys there is Ring of Fire and Good Vibrations. Well as it turns out, I was worried for nothing. What a truly amazing night in the theatre. Now like I said, I love Carole King. What I wasn't expecting, was the number of songs that she wrote for other artists, like "Up On The Roof, "Locomotion", and "Take Good Care Of My Baby".

Who knew? By the way for those of you who still haven't seen Beautiful yet, there is no better time than right now. Plus if you call right now, you can get tickets to see this amazing musical at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru March 13, it is for select seats only, and as always subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Beautiful on Broadway at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Donna Summer Musical To Open On Broadway This Spring

Summer_The_Donna_Summer_Musical_La_Jolla_Playhouse_Production_Photo_2017_SUMMER 3_HR.jpgDoes Broadway really need another jukebox musical? It does when the show is about 70's disco diva herself, Ms. Donna Summer. Donna: The Donna Summer Musical, is scheduled to begin previews at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, with opening night set for April 23.

The show, which just finished a run at the award winning La Jolla Playhouse in California, features over twenty of Donna Summer's biggest hit's including, "Hot Stuff", "Bad Girl's", "Last Dance", "Love To Love You Baby" and "She Work's Hard For The Money", and many, many more. But wait. There's more. Directing the show is two-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff, with choreography by Tony nominee and Olivier Award winner Sergio Trujillo.

You may recall those two from their work on the Tony Award winning musical Jersey Boys, which recently returned to the New York stage, following a twelve year run on the Great White Way. Will lighting strike twice? Here's hoping. As of now, no casting has been announced. Stay tuned to this site for further updates. Get your tickets to see Summer: The Donna Summer Musical on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

What To See In 2018 Part 4

Children of a Lesser GodThat's right theatre fans. It's time for my fourth and final look at this season's upcoming shows. Let's take a look.

Children of a Lesser God
Studio 54
1st Preview: March 22, 2018
Opens: April 11, 2018

Out of all the plays that are scheduled to open this season, this is the one that I am the most excited about. Well that and The Iceman Cometh. But that's for another blog. Children Of A Lesser God, which first premiered on Broadway in 1980, will make it's return to the Great White Way this Spring. The show, which is directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon (A Raisin In The Sun), stars Joshua Jackson and Lauren Ridloff, is based on this year's critically acclaimed production at the Berkshire Theatre Group. Here's hoping lighting strikes twice.

Travesties
American Airlines Theatre
1st Preview: March 29, 2018
Opens: April 24, 2018

TravestiesWinner of the 1975 Tony Award for Best Play of the Year is Travesties. The show, which is making it's first return to the Broadway stage since it's original production, is transferring from the Menier Chocolate Factory in London. Nominated for five 2017 Olivier Awards, Travesties stars stage and screen star Tom Hollander (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Night Manager) in the role of Henry Carr, who forges a friendship with Author James Joyce, and poet and performance artist Tristan Tzara during the height of the second world war in Zurich. Expect the show to be a big contender at next year's Tony Awards.

Saint Joan
Samuel J. Friedman Theatre
1st Preview: April 3, 2018
Opens: April 25, 2018

That's right theatre fans. Everyone's favorite French heroin from the 15th Century, returns to the Broadway stage for the first time in forty years.  This new production, which is headlined by two-time Tony nominee Condola Rashad (A Doll's House: Part 2, Stick-Fly), as the mysterious country girl who's visions make her famous, while at the same time, causing dismay amongst the country's leaders. Well I'm sold.

The Boys in the BandThe Boys In The Band
Booth Theatre
1st Preview: April 30, 2018
Opens: TBA
Closes: August 12, 2018

Earlier this week I wrote a blog on the highly anticipated revival of The Boys In The Band. The show, which features an all-star cast will technically open after the season cut-off for this years Tony Awards. However because it is beginning previews in April I decide to include it anyway. The revival, which will mark the shows fiftieth anniversary, is set to go on sale on January 20, so don't miss your chance to see one of the Great White Way's most celebrated plays of all time.

So there you have it. The 2017-2018 Broadway season is poised to be one of the best in years. Which one will you see? Tune into the 2018 Tony Awards, live on CBS on June 10, 2018. Until next time theatre fans.

Three Tall Women To Make Broadway Debut In February 2018

Three Tall WomenEdward Albee back on Broadway? Count me in theatre fans. Three Tall Women, which won the 1994 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, will make it's long awaited Broadway debut in February. The show, which also won the New York Drama Critic's Circle Award and the Outer Critic's Circle Award for Best Play of the Year, will begin previews at the John Golden Theatre on February 27, 2018, with opening night scheduled for March 29.

Directed by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello (Wicked, The Humans), and starring Tony and Emmy winner Laurie Metcalf (A Dolls House: Part 2), two-time Academy Award winner Glenda Jackson (A Touch of Class), and Tony Award nominee Alison Pill (The Newsroom), Three Tall Women, tells the story of three women, who's lives become intertwined when the eldest member of the group's life, is turned upside down by a series of unfortunate events.

As the evening progresses, they learn that despite their different lifestyles and backgrounds, they are more alike than they thought. Now that sounds like a great evening in the theatre. Tickets for this award winning play are now on sale. Plus if you call right now, you can get tickets to see the show at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru June 24, 2018, it is for select seats only, and as always subject to availability.
