New Play Bernhardt/Hamlet To Begin Previews Tonight On Broadway

Raise your hand if you can name the first woman to perform the role of Hamlet? Well if you guessed Sarah Siddons, then your hand should be raised high in the air. Now, can you name the first woman to play Hamlet on film?

If you guessed Sarah Bernhardt, then you would be right once again theatre fans.Which brings me to the topic of today's blog. Bernhardt/Hamlet, a new play by Theresa Rebeck (Seminar, Dead Accounts), is set to begin previews at the American Airlines Theatre on August 31, with opening night scheduled for September 25.

As of now, the show is set to close on November 18, but with all Roundabout Theatre shows, it will probably extend a week or two if the reviews are good.Starring Tony Award winner and Academy Award nominee Janet McTeer (A Doll's House, Albert Nobbs), Bernhardt/Hamlet takes place in 1899 where the acclaimed actress prepares to take on her most challenging role to date.

Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark. Directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel (Present Laughter, Hand To God), Bernhardt/Hamlet stars Tony Award nominee Dylan Baker (The Front Page), Jason Bartlet Harner (The Crucible), Mathew Saldivar (Junk), Nick Westrate (Tribes), Paxton Whitehead (The Importance of Being Ernest), Ito Aghayere (Familliar), Brittany Bradford (For Colored Girls), Aaron Costa Ganis (House of Cards), and Triney Sandoval (Marvin's Room).

New Revival Of Les Liaisons Dangereuses To Open On Broadway This Fall

Exciting news Broadway fans. One of the theatre's sexiest play's is heading to the Great White Way. Les Liason Dangeruses, which is based on the novel by Pierre Choderlos de Lacios, will star Tony winners Janet McTeer and Liev Schreiber as lovers La Marquise de Merteuil and Le Vicomte de Valmont. Try saying those names five times in a row. Set in 1782 during the French Revolution, Les Liaisons Dangereuses tells the story of sex, intrigue, and betrayal as the two lovers lives are turned upside down by the arrival of the married yet desirable Madame de Tourvel.

Previews for the show are set to begin at the Booth Theatre on October 8, with opening night scheduled for October 30. The show which comes to Broadway courtesy of the Donmar Warehouse will play thru January 22, 2017. That's exactly fifteen weeks for those of you keeping count. Tickets for the show are now on sale.
