Final Three Weeks For Tony Nominee Red

That's right theatre fans. You've only got 24 more chances to catch Tony nominees Alfred Molina and Eddie Redmayne in Red. The show which first premiered in London last year received 7 2010 Tony Award nominations including Best Play. Now while I did not get the chance to see the show everyone I have spoken to loved it. Having already won the Drama Desk Award for Best Play it is expected to do the same this Sunday at the 2010 Tony Awards. It's a shame that even it wins the big prize on Sunday it won't be around to bask in it's glory. Either way it is a great show and I strongly suggest checking it out before it is too late. Get your tickets to see Red at the John Golden Theatre on Broadway. Shows like these don't come around every day so call now.

New Play Red To Go On Sale Next Week

That's right theater fans. Tickets are set to go on sale this Monday for Red. The show which was written by John Logan and stars Tony nominee Alfred Molina and Eddie Redmayne is about 20th Century abstract-impressionist artist Mark Rothko.Prior to it's Broadway run it played at London's Donmar Warehouse where it received critical acclaim.

Handling the directing duties for Red is Michael Grandage who scored a hit earlier this season with Jude Law in Hamlet. Previews are set to begin on March 15 with opening night planned for April 1 for a limited run of only fifteen weeks. Mr. Molina was last seen on Broadway in the 2004 revival of Fiddler on the Roof where he received a Tony nomination for Best Actor. Here is a synopsis of the show from a production source.

"Red is set in 1958 as New York artist Mark Rothko (Alfred Molina) has received the art world's largest commission to create a series of murals for The Four Seasons restaurant in the new Seagram building on ParkAvenue. "Under the watchful gaze of his young assistant, Ken (Eddie Redmayne) and the threatening presence of a new generation of artists, Rothko faces his greatest challenge yet: to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting. Red is a moving and compelling account of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, whose struggle to accept his growing riches and praise became his ultimate undoing."

Alfred Molina is one of our finest stage actors as well as being a favorite of mine from his work in films over the years. Now based on him and Donmar Warehouse's track record as of late we should be in for a great night in the theatre. Get your tickets to see Red on Broadway. If reviews are good it is sure to be a hot ticket.
