I mean really. Is this show ever going to open? First Banana Shpeel was supposed to start previews at the Beacon Theatre on February 25,2010 but was then changed to March 17,2010.Sounds like the perfect date to start right? You could spend St. Patrick's Day drinking beer all day or you could go see a Cirque de Soleil show. Now if I had my choice I would rather spend five or six hours in a bar with a bunch of strangers then seeing a show but that's me.
Anyway Banana Shpeel is now set to begin previews on April 29,2010 and run thru the end of August. Yeah good luck with that. From what I can see they haven't sold that many tickets. Do they really think they are going to fill a 2,894 seat theatre eight times a week for four months? Yes I know Cirque de Soleil has a following but so does Rick Springfield. Doesn't mean it's going to sell. I don't know. Maybe it will be a big hit and I will have to eat my words. Or should I say banana.

Cirque du Soleil's Banana Shpeel Postponed
It was just announced that Banana Shpeel the latest production from the masterminds behind the hugely popular Cirque du Soleil has been postponed. The show which was expected to begin performances at New York's famed Beacon Theatre on February 25 will now begin on March 17 instead. Reviews for the show in Chicago were not good prompting the creators to fire the two leads in an attempt to fix the show. The producers of the show issued a statement today saying that,"The rehearsal period at the theatre has been extended to integrate new performance elements."Now I don't know about you but all this drama spells trouble to me. Will they be able to fix the problems in time? I for one can't wait to see how this all plays out. Until next time theater fans.
