Lend Me A Tenor To Begin Previews

I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to seeing the new Broadway revival of Lend Me A Tenor. The show which first opened on Broadway back in 1989 begins previews tonight at the Music Box Theatre. Opening night is set for April 4. Now while I have never seen a production of the show the play is a favorite of mine.

For those of you who are not familiar with the show here is a brief description of the play from a production source. "Lend Me A Tenor is a madcap screwball comedy that takes place when Tito Merelli, the fiery-tempered and world-famous Italian superstar, arrives in Cleveland, Ohio to make his debut with the local opera and promptly goes missing. As Saunders, the show's presenter, conspires to cover for Tito's absence, placate his hot-blooded wife, and distract his most passionate fans, chaos on a truly operatic level ensues"

Sounds like a riot don't you think? Heading the cast are Tony winner Anthony LaPaglia (A View from the Bridge, The Rose Tattoo)as opera singer Tito Merelli, Golden Globe winner Tony Shalhoub ("Monk," Conversations With My Father) as his producer Sanders and Justin Bartha ("The Hangover," "National Treasure") who is making his Broadway debut as Sander's assistant Max.

Rounding out the cast are two-time Tony nominee Jan Maxwell (The Royal Family, Coram Boy) as Maria, Mary Catherine Garrison (Assassins, Rabbit Hole) as Maggie, Tony nominee Jennifer Laura Thompson (Urinetown, Wicked) as Diana, Jay Klaitz (High Fidelity) as the Bellhop and Brooke Adams (The Heidi Chronicles, "Monk") as Julia.

Now for those of you like me who are dying to see this screw-ball comedy then you have come to the right place. That's right theatre fans.One of Broadway's all-time funniest shows is set to return to the Great White Way for the first time in almost two decades. Since it's Broadway debut in March of 1989 Lend Me A Tenor has been translated into sixteen languages and seen in over twenty-five countries. Not bad for a show that didn't even win the Tony Award for Best Play the year it opened. This new revival directed by Tony nominee and film star Stanley Tucci stars Anthony LaPaglia,Tony Shalhoub,and Justin Bartha.

Final Casting Announced For Lend Me A Tenor

That's right theatre fans. One of Broadway's most loved comedies is back on Broadway where it belongs. I am of course talking about Ken Ludwig's Lend Me A Tenor. The show which opened on Broadway in March of 1989 was nominated for seven Tony Awards and had been translated into sixteen languages and produced in twenty-five countries. Pretty impressive don't you think?

This new production is set to begin previews at Broadway's Music Box Theatre on March 11, with an official opening set for April 4. The cast will include Tony Award winner Anthony LaPaglia(View From The Bridge),Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub(Monk),and film star Justin Bartha(The Hangover)as Max. Rounding out the cast are Brooke Adams, Mary Catherine Garrison, Jennifer Laura Thompson, Jay Klaitz and Jan Maxwell. Stanley Tucci directs.

The original production ran for 476 performances. I read the show back in college and thought it was hysterical. I can't wait to see it live on stage. Tickets are set to go on sale in early February. Get your tickets to see Lend Me A tenor on Broadway. It is a laugh riot.
