Broadway Favorite Waitress To Open In London Next Month

Wow! Are you in for a treat London theatergoers. And no, I am not talking about the delicious food in the show. Waitress, which is in it's third year on Broadway, is set to begin performances at the Adelphi Theatre in London on February 9. Now If I'm being honest, the movie is a personal favorite of mine.

So, you can imagine how excited I was when they announced a few years ago, that it was becoming a Broadway musical. Not only that, but the score was being written by the talented singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles. And of course playing the title role, was none other than Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller.

Does it get any better than that? Now while Miss Mueller will not be recreating her award winning performance as waitress and pie maker Jenna, they have lined up a pretty awesome replacement if I must say. American Idol finalist, actress and singer/songwriter Katherine McPhee.

Who by the way, played the role from February thru August of last year. It was also recently announced, that Emmy Award nominee Jack McBrayer (30 Rock) will be joining Miss McPhee for the London production. Today Show Weatherman Al Roker To Join The Cast Of Waitress

I'll be honest, when I first heard about this my first thought was, "Who knew that Al Roker was a song and dance man?" Now all kidding aside, it's not like it's the worst idea.

After all he does have a very large fan base, not too mention the fact that the show now in it's third year, could use a little boost when sales tend to drop during this time of year. Mr. Roker, who has served as the weather anchor on NBC's Today Show since 1996, will step into the role of Ol" Joe on October 5 thru November 11.

When asked by his Today Show colleagues how he landed the job he said, " They called and asked for some reason. They want to try and shut this thing down". Katherine McPhee Extends Broadway Run in Waitress

Katherine McPhee's Broadway debut just got a lot sweeter!

The former American Idol-alum and SMASH star will return to the diner on July 5th, after ending her current run on June 17th.

McPhee will end her second run on August 19th.

Waitress tells the story of Jenna, a woman who works in a diner and is an expert pie maker. Jenna enters a local baking competition, and with her winnings she plans on leaving her small town and her sad marriage.

The cast of Waitress also includes Drew Gehling as Dr. Pomatter, Caitlin Houlahan as Dawn, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Becky, Steve Vinovich as Joe, Benny Elledge as Cal, Ben Thompson as Earl, and Christopher Fitzgerald as Ogie. Erich Bergen will replace Gehling as Dr. Pomatter on June 5.
