Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Billy Porter Return to Broadway in Shuffle Along

So many shows have begun previews this season on Broadway and several more will open to critics reviews by April 28, 2016 in order to become eligible for Tony Award nominations this year.  Prior to the start of preview performances on March 14, 2016, I thought Applause-Tickets blog readers and Facebook fans might want to get the inside scoop into what we might be able to expect from Shuffle Along, an updated take on a musical that originally appeared on Broadway in May of 1921.  That musical was called The Making of The Musical Sensation of 1921 And All That Followed.
Audra McDonald
Originally performed in a remote theater on West 63rd Street in New York City, the show was written, choreographed and featured an all African-American cast and creative people.  The music was all jazz with electrifying dance routines at the time.  It had played 504 performances and it is said to have taken New York City by storm.  The marketing material about the new re-creation, Shuffle Along, was said to have "ignited not just Broadway, but all of New York City.  Because of Shuffle Along, Uptown and Downtown met- and became one".

As we fast forward to the updated show, Shuffle Along is expected to once again take New York City by storm with exceptionally experienced and talented cast members which include Audra McDonald (6-Time Tony Award Winner), Brian Stokes Mitchell (Ragtime), Billy Porter (Kinky Boots), Joshua Henry (Violet), Brandon Victor Dixon (The Color Purple, Motown) and a cast of two dozen or so. The choreographer is Savion Glover who won the 1996 Tony Award for Best Choreography in the hit show "Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk".  He's an incredible talent and I'm looking forward to see the work he's creating for Shuffle Along.

Shuffle Along will include the previously untold story of everything that went on "backstage" in the original version of the show and how it changed the world at the time.  The show will open to critics reviews on April 21, 2016 at New York's Music Box Theater on West 45th Street.  Right now, a call to Applause-Tickets can help you obtain excellent seats for Shuffle Along at reduced prices.  We expect this pricing will not likely be available after the show opens and gets it's anticipated positive reviews.

Applause-Tickets is open for business 24/7 and we hope to hear from you if and when your plans include purchasing Shuffle Along tickets or some of the other terrific Broadway Shows playing in New York City or London.
