New Musical Catch Me If You Can Now In Previews
I'll admit that out of all the new musicals set to open this season Catch Me If You Can is the one that I am least looking forward too. Now don't get me wrong. The show will more than likely do very well. How can it not? Music and lyrics by the Tony winning team of Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman (Hairspray). Book by four-time Tony winner Terrence McNally (Master Class, Ragtime).
How about direction by Tony winner Jack O'Brien and Choreography by fellow Tony winner Jerry Mitchell? Not to mention that this new musical is based on the 2002 Oscar nominated movie of the same name. Add that all up and you have the recipe for a hit show. Not so fast. Now while I expect the show to do very well and rack up quite a few Tony nominations it does have some competition. Believe it or not but there are a total of ten new musicals this season along with two revivals.
Now out of those seven three have already closed. The Scotsboro Boys,Women On The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and Bloody,Bloody Andrew Jackson. Based on word of mouth the big sellers are expected to be The Book of Mormon,Priscilla Queen of the Desert and How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying starring Harry Potter himself Mr. Daniel Radcliffe. Who by the way I heard is quite the song and dance man. Now the one that I am really looking forward to is Baby It's You. This new musical based on 60's musicicons The Shirelles is my pick for the sleeper hit of the season.
Think the female version of Jersey Boys. Well once again it looks like I've wandered off the beaten path. I started out blogging about Catch Me If You Can and it turned into my own little preview of some of Broadway's most highly anticipated upcoming shows. By the way if you are looking for tickets to see Catch Me If You Can or any of the new shows I mentioned don't forget Applause is just a phone call away. Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are here to help with all your ticket needs. Until next time theatre fans.

See What Applause Theatre Service Can Do For You
No plans for Valentine's Day yet? Nothing to do on a Saturday night? Well have I got the solution for you. Why not come to New York and see a show. Yes I know it's cold and more snow is on the horizon. Well what better way to warm up then by seeing some of Broadway's hottest shows. Now more than ever New York is home to some of the most exciting and innovative plays in musicals in years.
Now when I first moved to New York musicals were my thing but in the last few years it is the plays that have really entertained me. Not that I don't love a good old fashioned musical. It's just with all the revivals the last few years it's nice to see something new. Speaking of new there are six brand new musicals set to open this Spring.
They are Baby It's You,The Book of Mormon,Catch Me If You Can,The People in the Picture,Priscilla Queen of the Desert,Sister Act,and Wonderland. Sounds like one heck of a line-up to me. Now let's say musicals aren't your thing. How about one of this season's most anticipated new plays.
Give up? Believe it or not but the show is called The Mother****** With The Hat. Making his Broadway debut in the show? Why none other than film star Chris Rock. Sounds interesting doesn't it? Well there you are folks. Which one will you choose? That's the great thing about Broadway. There's something for everybody. Live theatre. There is nothing like it.

Broadway Musical Catch Me If You Can Now On Sale
That's right theatre fans. One of this season's most highly anticipated new shows is now on sale. Catch Me If You Can is set to begin previews at the Neil Simon Theatre on March 7 with opening night scheduled for April 10. The show which first premiered at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre in late 2009 features a score Tony winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman who scored a big hit nine years ago with Hairspray.
They will be joined by fellow Tony winners and Hairspray alum Jack O'Brien (Director) and Jerry Mitchell (Choreographer). Will lighting strike twice? Of all the new musicals coming in I think it has a good shot if you ask me. Now believe it or not but I have never seen the movie. Maybe that's a good thing. Maybe I will check it out after I see the show. Now for those of you like me that are not familiar with the story here is a brief synopsis from a production source.
"Catch Me If You Can captures the astonishing true story of Frank Abagnale, Jr., a world-class con artist who passed himself off as a doctor, a lawyer, and a jet pilot — all before the age of 21. With straight-arrow FBI agent Carl Hanratty on Frank's trail, we're off on a jet-setting, cat-and-mouse chase, as a jazzy, swinging-sixties score keeps this adventure in constant motion. In the end, Agent Hanratty learns he and Frank aren't so very different after all, and Frank finds out what happens when love catches up to a man on the run."
Sounds interesting to me. How about you? I for one hope it does well as Broadway could really use a big fat hit. Keep your fingers crossed. By the way for those of you that want to see the show you have come to the right place. From now thru May 8 you can purchase tickets to Catch Me If You Can at a reduced rate.Get your tickets to see Catch Me If You Can On Broadway. Good seats are still available so don't delay. Call now. A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker
So here I sit on a cold Sunday morning. As expected we did not get as much snow as they had predicted. In less then eight hours I will be sitting in my seat at the Richard Rodgers Theatre anxiously awaiting the final performance of In The Heights. I'm sure it is going to be an emotional evening for all involved. Now while I am sad to see it go I know that it will not be soon forgotten. Besides In The Heights there are a total of fourteen other shows closing this month. The good news is that between now and the end of April there will be eighteen new shows opening on the Great White Way. That my friends is good news. Broadway could use a hit. Which ones will succeed and which ones will fail? I for one hope they all do well. We shall see. Until next time theatre fans.

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker
So here I sit on a cold Sunday morning at work trying to figure out something to blog about. To be honest there's not a lot going on as far as theatre goes. No surprise there as most of the big shows don't usually open until the Spring anyway. As of now there are fifteen new shows set to open between now and the end of April. Seven of those are new musicals.
The Book of Mormon
Catch Me If You Can
The People In The Picture
Priscilla Queen of the Desert
Sister Act
Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark
Wonderland
Pretty interesting line-up wouldn't you say? Now the truth is out of all of those shows the only one that I am really looking forward to is Spider-Man. Not because I think it will be any good but because I think it won't. I just love a good train wreck. The others I can take or leave. Oh sure The Book of Mormon is sure to be a laugh riot and Priscilla will be a major camp fest.
Who cares? I don't know about you but I am sick and tired of seeing big Hollywood movies turned into musicals. Where are the original ideas people? Where is the substance? What's next? Iron Man The Musical? Trust me. I'm sure somebody out there is already thinking about it. I'm done. Until next time theatre fans.

New Musical Catch Me If You Can To Open On Broadway Next Year
Well it looks like the 2010-2011 Broadway season is shaping up to be a big one. Following the recent announcement that Priscilla Queen of the Desert will open at the Palace Theatre in Spring 2011 comes the news that another screen to stage transfer will also make it's Broadway debut.
Catch Me If You Can, a new musical based on the 2002 film of the same name, will begin previews at the Neil Simon Theatre on March 7, 2011 with opening night set for April 10, 2011.
The show which first premiered in 2009 at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre will feature a score by Tony winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
Directing the show is two-time Tony winner Jack O'Brien with choreography by fellow Tony winner Jerry Mitchell. All four men previously collaborated on Hairspray which won the 2003 Tony Award for Best Musical and enjoyed a six year run on Broadway.
Will lighting strike twice? Now while I have never seen the film I expect the show to do very well and be a big contender at next years Tony Awards. We will soon find out. Until next time theatre fans.
