A Little Night Music To Close On June 20

Hot on the heels of the announcement that Tony Award winner God of Carnage will close on June 6 comes the news that multiple Tony nominee A Little Night Music will play it's final performance at the Walter Kerr Theatre on June 20, 2010. The show which was recently extended thru the end of August will now close following the exits of it's two stars Angela Lansbury and Catherine Zeta-Jones. When it closes it will have played a total of 20 previews and 217 performances. The rumor is that the show is closing due to the producers of the show not being able to secure suitable replacements for it's two leading ladies. Either way the show was a big seller during it's run and while it is not likely to win the Tony Award for Best Musical next month it was a top notch production of a show that we are not likely to see again on Broadway for a very long time. Until next time theatre fans.

A Little Night Music Now On Sale Thru August 29

That's right theatre fans. One of this season's most successful shows is now on sale thru the end of the Summer. A Little Night Music which opened to rave reviews last December is selling tickets thru August 29. That's great news of you are a Sondheim fan. Now for those of you who want to see the show with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury you only have until June 20.

As of now replacements for the two leads have not been announced but I would imagine if they are going to sell tickets well after their departure they must have a few people in mind. Now while the show is a big seller I think we can all agree it is because if it's two leading ladies. If the show has any hope of lasting well into 2010 they better have something up their sleeve. Only time will tell.

Good Seats Available For A Little Night Music This Week

That's right folks. One of this season's hottest shows is now available. Not only that but at prices that are lower then it's been since it's opened last year. Now I know what you're thinking. How is that possible? Isn't A Little Night Music one of the most popular shows on Broadway? Well yes it is. The main reason good seats are available is because quite frankly everybody has seen the show so there are plenty of seats left.

Just kidding. Catherine Zeta-Jones is on vacation. Now look I love her as much as the next person but Angela Lansbury is still in the show. For this week only you can get good seats for prices that are below face value. Be advised this deal is only good thru February 21. Now for those of you who are going to be here at the end of March this deal will be happening again during Ms. Zeta-Jones next hiatus. Those dates are March 30-April4.

Now while the show is extremely popular that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. All you have to do is call one of the friendly ticket experts at Applause and we can get you tickets to see A Little Night Music on Broadway. Need tickets for a Saturday night? No problem. A Little Night Music Opens on Broadway

I usually get to see all the Broadway Shows. It's one of the perks being a licensed ticket agent for Broadway.

Although I haven't had the opportunity to see the revival of A Little Night Music, which opened at New York's Walter Kerr Theater this past Sunday December 13, 2009, I am planning on catching a performance in the coming days. A Little Night Music stars theater legend Angela Lansbury and film star Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Just to show you how different people react to A Little Night Music (or for any other show for that matter), you may be interested in seeing 2 brief opinions from Theatermania critics.

We walked out during the intermission. The story line is a sleeper, the talent is up on stage but the plot is so dated and flat.

WONDERFUL! A Little Night Music - 12:21PM on 12/03/2009
Absolute perfection. Catherine Zeta-Jones is sublime and Angela Landsbury is amazing. We adored this play and already have tickets to see it again with friends when they come to town for the holidays. Dont miss this. It is a true Broadway experience.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury Open on Broadway on December 13, 2009

The show is called A Little Night Music and it is based on an Ingmar Bergman film called Smiles of a Summer Night. The music is by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler (from the original 1973 production) and it is the very first revival of A Little Night Music on Broadway.

A Little Night Music is about Desiree Armfeldt, an aging actress who is rekindling her romance with an older married man who becomes impatient with his constantly resistant "virginal child-bride". Additional romantic encounters take place during one weekend in the country in turn of the century Sweden.

Catherine Zeta-Jones is making her Broadway debut. She has been seen in many films that include Chicago and won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Vilma Kelly. Angela Lansbury plays the role of Madame Armfeldt in A Little Night Music. Ms. Lansbury has been acting for more than 60 years now, winning 5 Tony Awards, most recently winning the award for Blithe Spirit in 2009.

Our ticket company, Applause (License #71AP1001029), always gets complimentary tickets to see a show before its official opening. Although we are anxiously awaiting an invitation to see A Little Night Music we haven't heard any word of mouth from the preview audiences that have seen A Little Night Music. As soon as we see the show, we will write a review for our Broadway Ticket News readers.

It's been a Broadway season that has been exciting to say the least. We have seen Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig play in A Steady Rain, Jude Law in Hamlet and soon we will see Liev Schreiber and Scarlett Johansson star in Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge. We are hoping that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury shine in A Little Night Music and that the show enjoys a long run on Broadway.

Cheers,
Rich Gladstone
