It was announced today that Academy Award nominated actor Haley Joel Osment(The Sixth Sense)will make his Broadway debut in the revival of David Mamet's American Buffalo. Osment joins previously announced stars John Leguizamo and Cedric the Entertainer. Directed by Robert Falls, the Chicago-set tale will begin previews Oct. 31 at the Belasco Theatre with an official opening Nov. 17.

American Buffalo, according to press notes, is described as such: "In one of Mamet's signature works the bungled heist of an old nickel by three lowlifes based in a Chicago pawnshop suggests how the language and practice of American business and power politics are insidious forces in our society."

O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic. This marks the first time the Rangers will play a regular-season game outside of North America, and the second consecutive year that the NHL has begun its season overseas. New York's home opener at MSG will be on Friday, Oct. 10, against the Chicago Blackhawks.

With a newly formatted schedule, the Rangers will face each NHL team at least one time over the course of the season. New York will face Atlantic Division foes New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and the Islanders six times each. Shrek the Musical is getting good advanced notices in Seattle!

The buzz is really good on the new musical production of "Shrek" now playing an out of town tryout in Seattle! We have such high hopes on this show after seeing the preview here in NY and listening to the CD sampler given to us. Heck, the name sells itself and is sure to be a winner! But is it a Mega Hit? We'll soon find out gang. Listen to what this person said after seeing the show in Seattle;
I saw the show Sunday night which was its' fifth performance. I have tickets to see it again on its' last performance in Seattle on September 21st. After seeing the last performance I'll post a full review. However I liked it a hell of a lot more than "Young Frankenstein" which also debuted here before Broadway. Sutton Foster fans will be delighted with her vocal abilities. It's the first time I've ever heard her use an operatic range and her dancing with a stage full of tap dancing rats is very funny. In fact all the leads including Brian D'Arcy James and Chris Sieber have wonderful voices with music which allows them to shine. I've seen all three leads numerous times in other productions and except for Sutton in "Millie" I've never enjoyed them more. The humor right now is very similar to "Spamalot" in the sense that there are numerous "in" digs on other Broadway shows. Twice there's a takeoff on "I Am Telling You". Overall the humor is extremely lowbrow. Shrek and Princess Fiona fall in love during a song where they belch and fart back and forth in a sort of "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better" fashion. If seeing Foster in her princess garb jumping in the air and separating her legs in a scissor fashion while farting floats your boat than this show is for you. I'm looking forward to seeing what changes will go on in the next month. In fact for what it's worth these days, the audience was on its' feet cheering as soon as the final curtain went down.

Let the holidays begin.It was just announced to today that tickets for White Christmas will go on sale beginning on September 21st. The musical comedy based on the Paramount film of the same name has played acclaimed engagements in San Francisco, Boston, Detroit, Toronto, Los Angeles and St. Paul. As previously announced, previews for the Broadway debut begin Nov. 14. Performances will play through Jan. 4, 2009.The musical tells the story of two showbiz buddies who put on a show in a picturesque Vermont inn, and find their perfect mates — a sister act, no less — in the bargain.

3-Time Tony Award Winner Frank Langella(Frost/Nixon)returns to Broadway this fall in Roundabout Theatre Company's production of this classic American drama. Doug Hughes who won a Tony Award for Doubt a few seasons back directs the first Broadway revival of Robert Bolt's Tony Award winning play. A Man For All Seasons focuses on Sir Thomas More's struggle between his friendship with Henry VIII and the demands of his conscience — a struggle that leads him to the executioner's block.

He's Baaack!! "Idol" Finalist Clay Aiken Return's to Broadway's Spamalot in September!

"American Idol" finalist and new dad Clay Aiken will return to the Broadway company of Monty Python's Spamalot on September 19th.
He will reprise his role of Sir Robin through Jan. 4, 2009.
In a statement Aiken joked, "Since leaving Spamalot in May, jokes have just not been funny. Food has lost its taste. The grass is no longer green — the sky no longer blue. And, babies won't stop crying!! I'm so excited about coming back to the funniest show in the world!"

I have to agree that this show is one of the funniest show's that I've ever seen and a must see for those who need a good laugh, and don't we all nowadays!
Spamalot earned the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical and took home honors for direction (Mike Nichols) and one of its stars (Sara Ramirez).
Spamalot celebrated its third anniversary on Broadway March 18.

Is Debra Winger Broadway Bound?

Rumor has it folks that Academy Award Nominated actress Debra Winger(Terms of Endearment, An Officer and a Gentleman, Urban Cowboy) is set to make her Broadway Debut this fall in a new production of "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?". She will play the title role of the Mom which of course was made famous by the great Katharine Hepburn in the 1968 film which also starred Spencer Tracy and Sidney Poitier. The producers are looking at Bill Pullman, Barry Bostwick and Larry Bryggman for the Spencer Tracy role. I loved Brygmann in the play "Festen" which ran here on Broadway a couple of seasons ago. My money is on him! Producers are said to be looking at TV’s Amanda Bynes as the couple’s daughter. Still to be cast is the Sidney Poitier role, Dr. John Prentice, although I’m told Mekhi Phifer, of "ER," may be the final choice.
I love Debra Winger and can't wait for this to happen! Exciting stuff for sure! Who cares that she's known to be a pain in the neck to work with! (Will Ms Shirley Maclaine be there on Opening Night?) I will get to see one of my favorite actresses live on Broadway!

"Shrek" heads to Broadway and turns Stage Actor into an Ogre!

It's not easy being green! Actor Brian d'Arcy James figures it took him about 2 hours and 15 minutes to make his first transformation into the title character Shrek in "Shrek:The Musical". Below are your First Pictures of this amazing transformation!

The clock is ticking. Shrek begins a pre-Broadway run Thursday at 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle and officially opens there Sept. 10. Based on William Steig's children's book Shrek! and the first of the three DreamWorks animated films it inspired, the production then moves to New York to the Broadway Theatre to begin previews Nov. 8 in preparation for a Dec. 14 opening.

"Usually, my job is to give a sense of theatricality, not necessarily to copy" an adapted character's original traits to a T, Hatley, makeup artist of Shrek says. "But Shrek is so known and loved that we realized we were fighting a losing battle."For comfort, Shrek's costume was fashioned with "head vents and channels to allow sweat to drip out." The front of the costume "pops away," so that during a short break, James "can get air to his chest quickly. And we cut hundreds of holes in the padding to allow air to go through, like Swiss cheese."
With no bathroom break except for intermission, when James can get out of his suit entirely, he has to drink with discretion. "There's no escape route in it, if you will," he says.
"Ogres have very large bladders, but I'm definitely going to be mindful of my coffee intake."

Just on sale today is "9 to 5", Dolly Partons new Musical based on the hit motion picture of the same title. Producers announced that 9 To 5: The Musical is coming to Broadway next spring, with previews starting March 24 at the Marriott Marquis Theatre. We so wish that Dolly Parton was actually going to be on stage for this one, but Megan Hilty will play her role from the 1980 film. Allison Janney, Stephanie J. Block and Megan Hilty as the three secretarial sisters-in-arms, and 20 new songs from Parton.

Also on sale through groups is the revival of "Westside Story". As previously announced, the new Broadway production of the landmark musical, directed by librettist Arthur Laurents, will begin previews Feb. 23, 2009, at a Nederlander theatre to be announced.
The revival will officially open on Broadway March 19, 2009, according to an Aug. 8 press announcement.

August Osage County, soon to be filmed as a major Motion Picture has some great ticket deals that are available with Applause Theatre Service

A feature film version of Tracy Letts' "August: Osage County" is coming to the big screen according to reports from Variety.
"So many actors and stars have come to see it on Broadway, and we've gotten inquiries," Doumanian, Woody Allen's longtime producer and a member of the August Broadway producing team , told Variety. "People are enthusiastic about the film version." Broadway lead producers Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel will executive produce the film.
August tells the story of the dysfunctional Weston clan of rural Oklahoma, who gather at the family home after the disappearance of the patriarch. A hit at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre last summer, the play transferred to Broadway in the fall and is currently running at the Music Box Theatre. Many of the original cast members are expected to travel to London to star in an eight-week run at the National Theatre in November. So if you're traveling abroad, call us for your London tickets . Jersey Boys Set To Open In Toronto

The Canadian premiere of Jersey Boys will begin on the Toronto Centre for the Arts stage Aug. 21,2008.Des McAnuff (The Who's Tommy, Big River) directs and Sergio Trujillo choreographs the story of American pop group The Four Seasons — the highs, the lows and all in between.

Jersey Boys features music by Bob Gaudio, lyrics by Bob Crewe and a book by Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice. The production garnered four Tony Award wins: for stars John Lloyd Young and Christian Hoff, lighting designer Howell Binkley and for the top prize Best Musical.

There are currently five productions of Jersey Boys: New York, London, Chicago, Las Vegas and the North American tour. A sixth production will open in Melbourne, Australia, in March 2009.

"Equus" tickets starring Daniel Radcliffe go on sale this Monday August 4 with Applause Theatre Service

The eagerly awaited revival of "Equus" co-starring Daniel Radcliffe(AKA Harry Potter) and Tony and Olivier Award winner Richard Griffiths will go on sale this Monday August 4th with Applause Theatre Service.
