Rent Is No More:The End Of An Era

Unless you've been living under a rock you all know by now that Rent played it's final performance this past Sunday.(It's 5,124th performance to be exact.)For those of you who have read my blogs over the past 12 months know my affection for this ground breaking musical. I first saw Rent in previews in April 1996. By the time the title song had finished it was clear that this was not only going to change my life but that it would become a show for the ages. After all these years and some 25 viewings later it is still the greatest show I have ever seen On or Off Broadway. I can only imagine the first time that I walk by the theatre and realize that it is gone. Not to return for a very long time. But I will never forget it. The show and the music will live on in my heart forever. The memories of the past 12 years will forever remind me of a special time in my life. No matter how bad things were I could always escape to the Nederlander Theatre and that for the next 2 1/2 hrs all was right with the world. Thank you Jonathan Larson for making me smile. And thank you for a show that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
