See Tony Winner La Cage Aux Folles For Below Face Value

That's right theatre lovers. Now is the best time to get your tickets to see La Cage Aux Folles. The show which won three 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival opened at the Longacre Theatre on April 18 following a sold out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London where it won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival. Headlining the new production are Emmy winner Kelsey Grammer as Georges and Tony winner Douglas Hodge as Albin who won both the Tony and Olivier Award for his performance as Albin. They are set to leave the show on February 13, 2011. Now I like most expected the show to close when they left.

However it looks as if the show is sticking around as it was recently announced that fellow Tony winner and author of the show's libretto Harvey Fierstein would be replacing Hodges in the role of Albin. Maybe the show has a life after all. By the way for those of you who want tickets to see this Tony winning farce you have come to the right place. From now thru December 19 you can tickets to see La Cage Aux Folles for prices that can't be beat. Be advised that this "Special Offer" is not good for Saturday evening performances and is subject to availability. Get your tickets to see La Cage Aux Folles on Broadway. You will love it.

Christmas Is Just Around The Corner

Still recovering from all that turkey you ate on Thanksgiving? Well get ready because Christmas is here folks. Yes I know we still have four more weeks but trust me. It will be here before you know it. In fact two days from now is the annual tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center and Wednesday will mark the first day of Hanukkah. See I told you Christmas was just around the corner.

Now as we all know the holidays can be a stressful time. Not too mention expensive. The thing is is doesn't have to be. Believe it or not but the cost of a Broadway ticket isn't as much as you might think. Oh sure if you are the type of person that has to sit in the "First Ten Rows Center" then you better be prepared to pay up. However if you are like me and you don't care where you sit then you have come to the right place my friends.

Right now there are over twenty-five shows both on and Off-Broadway that you can see for......wait for it.....below face value. Let me guess. You think I've lost my mind right? Well if you don't believe me then just check out this link and see for yourself. Now who's the crazy one? Now in case your show isn't listed there it doesn't mean it''s not available. It just means that it will cost you a little more to see it. The choice is yours. Live theatre. There is nothing like it. Until next time theatre lovers.

Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark To Begin Previews Today

The wait is finally over. After years and years of delays everyone's favorite superhero is about to take the Great White Way by storm. O.K. I might be over exaggerating a little bit. It hasn't been delayed that long. It just feels like it. The show which was originally supposed to begin previews on November 14 is one of this season's most highly anticipated new shows as well as one of it's most controversial. The press has been having a field day with the show for months now and I expect that to continue in the coming weeks. Will the show surprise us all and become a hit?The truth is even if the show were to receive rave reviews it would still have to sell at full capacity for five years straight to make back it's investment. Look I for one hope it succeeds. Maybe if it does it will encourage more mainstream musicians like Bono and The Edge to try their luck on Broadway. Or the show will bomb so bad that not only will it scare away those types it will also show that millions of dollars and fancy acrobatics will not guarantee a hit or lots of awards come Tony time. We shall see. Can't wait for the reviews. Until next time.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Bozeman, Montana. Late last week I received a call from a travel agent who wanted to inquire about a few shows for one of her regular clients. Let me rephrase that. He wanted to see ten shows. Not only that but ten shows in five days. Now I love the theatre as much as the next guy but not even I would want to see that many shows in such a short amount of time. Now after perusing his list of shows I soon realized that he would probably have to cross a couple of shows off his list in order to make it work.

Since he had already seen Chicago and The Phantom of the Opera he decided he could skip those two this time around. Problem solved. So now that I had the shows and the dates it was time to put everything together. Since he didn't care which show he saw on what day it was left up to me to decide the order. Like I didn't already have enough pressure in my life already. To be honest it was a lot easier to figure out then I thought.

Tuesday was Chicago.Wednesday brought a double bill of West Side Story and Memphis as did Thursday with Promises,Promises and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Since he would have to do two shows on Saturday (A Little Night Music and Billy Elliot) I scheduled Mamma Mia for Friday night so he could have the afternoon free to check out the city and do some shopping. There are other things to do here besides theatre you know. So there you have it folks. Eight shows in less than a week. I'm getting tired just thinking about it. Until next time theatre fans.

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

So here I sit on a cold Sunday morning at work trying to figure out something to blog about. To be honest there's not a lot going on as far as theatre goes. No surprise there as most of the big shows don't usually open until the Spring anyway. As of now there are fifteen new shows set to open between now and the end of April. Seven of those are new musicals.

The Book of Mormon
Catch Me If You Can
The People In The Picture
Priscilla Queen of the Desert
Sister Act
Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark
Wonderland

Pretty interesting line-up wouldn't you say? Now the truth is out of all of those shows the only one that I am really looking forward to is Spider-Man. Not because I think it will be any good but because I think it won't. I just love a good train wreck. The others I can take or leave. Oh sure The Book of Mormon is sure to be a laugh riot and Priscilla will be a major camp fest.

Who cares? I don't know about you but I am sick and tired of seeing big Hollywood movies turned into musicals. Where are the original ideas people? Where is the substance? What's next? Iron Man The Musical? Trust me. I'm sure somebody out there is already thinking about it. I'm done. Until next time theatre fans.

Tickets For Bengal Tiger At The Baghdad Zoo Starring Robin Williams Now On Sale

That's right theatre fans. One of this season's most highly anticipated new shows is now on sale. Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo which stars Academy and Emmy Award winner Robin Williams will begin previews at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on March 11, 2011 with opening night set for March 31.

The show which was a finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize is described as a 'ferocious comedy that follows the intertwined lives of a tiger, two American marines and an Iraqi gardener as they roam the streets of Baghdad in search of friendship, redemption and a toilet seat made of gold."

Now I love Robin Williams as much as the next guy but Patch Adams as a tiger? Really? I don't know. The fact that the show was up for the Pulitzer Prize does give it a little credibility so maybe it will turn out to be good. We shall see. Get your tickets to see Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo. Catchy title isn't it? Until next time theatre fans.

Get Tickets To See Million Dollar Quartet Thru Applause Theatre Service

Still haven't see Million Dollar Quartet? Well there is no better time than the present. The show which first premiered at Florida's Seaside Music Theatre prior to it's open ended run in Chicago was nominated for Best Musical at the 2010 Tony Awards where it continues to play to packed houses eight times a week at the Nederlander Theatre on Broadway.

Based on the real life December 1956 recording session between Johnny Cash,Carl Perkins,Elvis Presley, and Jerry Lee Lewis Million Dollar Quartet features several classic songs made famous by the artists themselves including "Love Me Tender", 'Fever", "Blue Suede Shows", "I Walk The Line","Great Balls Of Fire","Who Do You Love", and many, many more.

Broadway Production Of Mary Poppins Celebrates Anniversary

That's right theatre fans. Broadway's most loved nanny is celebrating a milestone. Mary Poppins which is based on the series of children's books by P. L. Travers and the acclaimed 1964 film first opened in London in December 2004 prior to it's Broadway bow in November 2006. The show which continues to delight audiences of all ages eight times a week at the New Amsterdam Theatre remains one of Broadway's most popular shows. Plus being that there are very few kid friendly shows on Broadway these days you can bet that Mary Poppins will be here for a long time to come my friends.

Growing up as a child the film was always a favorite of mine so when the show was first announced I'll admit I wasn't sure if the stage version would live up to my expectations. Well as it turns out I was worried for nothing. I loved the show. Now for those of you out there who think the show is just for kids you would be wrong. Dead wrong. It's a show that whole family can enjoy. How many shows can say that? Get your tickets to see Mary Poppins on Broadway. You will have the time of your life.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Tennessee. Earlier in the week I received a call from a very nice lady who was looking for tickets for the end of the year. I asked her what she wanted to see and she told me that there were three shows that her and her family were hoping to see during their visit. Her first choice was the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.

I told her that since she was going after Christmas that not only would I be able to get her great seats but probably at a lower rate as well. So after taking care of her first show I asked her what she wanted to see next. She told me that although she needed five tickets for the Christmas Spectacular she would only need three tickets for the other two shows since the men were going to a basketball game instead.

I asked her if she needed any suggestions on what to see and she said that Promises,Promises was at the top of her list but needed help on picking the other show. I told her that although Promises,Promises was a very popular show I should be able to get her some very nice seats for that one as well. So now that show number two was set it was time to move on to her third and final show. Can you guess what I suggested? Why In The Heights of course.

Surprised aren't you?Now before you think I pushed the show on her because it is a favorite of mine you would be right. However a friend of hers had seen the show when it came to Orlando this past Spring and suggested she see it during her trip to New York. Since she had spent a little more to get a better seat for Promises,Promises she was hoping to see In The Heights for a lower price.

Having seen the show I told her that since the theatre is very small she should sit in the Rear Mezzanine as the price is lower and she would still have a very good view. Well she loved that. So there you are folks. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

See Tony Winner Chicago For Below Face Value This Fall

Now in it's fourteenth record breaking year on Broadway is Chicago. The show which first opened back on Broadway in 1975 is still one of Broadway's top selling shows. The truth is most shows are lucky enough to run for a few years so fourteen is a major accomplishment. In fact it will celebrate it's anniversary tomorrow. Having seen the show early in it's run I was blown away by it's simplicity and it's ability to tell a compelling story without a big fancy set or a bunch of lavish costumes.

Who says you have to spend millions of dollars to make a show a success? Yes Julie Taymor I am talking to you. By the way for those of you folks out there who want to see the show there is no better time than the present. From now thru February 6, 2011 you can get tickets to see this Tony winning musical at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that this "Insider Deal" is not good for Saturday evening performances and subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Chicago on Broadway. It is theatre at it's finest.

The Lion KIng Celebrates Miletone

Has it really been 13 years since The Lion King opened on Broadway? Time sure does fly doesn't it? The show which first premiered in Minneapolis in July 1997 opened at the New Amsterdam Theatre on November 13, 1997 where it remained until June 2006 when it moved uptown three blocks to the Minskoff Theatre. Now those of you who read my blogs know that I am not a big fan of the show. To be honest I'm not a big fan of Disney on Broadway period. Now while I may not care for them they do have their place. After all if it wasn't for them most kids would never experience the thrill of seeing a Broadway show. For that reason alone they should be commended.

Happy Holidays From Applause Theatre Service

That's right folks. The holiday season is almost here. What better way to celebrate than by coming to New York and seeing a show. From dramas to to comedies, to plays or musicals there is something for everyone this year. Now as we all know no holiday would be complete without the Radio City Christmas Spectacular featuring the world famous Rockettes. The show which is now in it's 77th recording breaking year began performances last week and will run into the end of the year. Good seats are still available so call now. Your holidays will not be the same without it my friends.

Next up is Elf. This new musical which is based on the 2003 starring Will Farrell is now in previews at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre and will play thru January, 2, 2100. The movie is a personal favorite of mine and I hope that the show will be just as successful. Who knows? Broadway might have a new holiday tradition on their hands. Watch out Rockettes. Buddy the Elf is on your tail. This winter will mark the final year for Cirque de Soleil's Wintuk.
This winterland extravaganza will play thru January 2,2011 at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden.

Now I never bought into the whole Cirque de Soleil phenomenon. It just doesn't do it for me. However there is no denying their success over the years. A perennial holiday favorite is George Balanchine’s The Nutcraker. I remember seeing this as a young child during my first trip to New York City and it was an experience that I would never forget. If you get the chance to see it I highly recommend it. Last but not least is Donny and Marie: A Broadway Christmas. Now I'll admit that I chuckled a little bit when this was first announced.

Not that I mind them. In fact I used to watch them when I was a kid. I just never expected to see them in a big Broadway show in 2010.Well evidently I was wrong as they just announced today that the show has been extended for an additional nine performances for a total of 21. Performances are set to begin at the Marquis Theatre on December 9 and will run thru December 30. So there you have it folks. Which one will you choose? Why not see them all? After all Christmas only happens once a year. Until next time theatre fans.

Get Tickets To See The Big Apple Circus

Now in it's 33rd year the Big Apple Circus continues to thrill and enchant audiences of all ages. One of my most cherished memories growing up as a kid in Illinois was going to the circus with my Mom and Dad. Even after all these years the mere mention of a circus puts a smile on my face. Although I haven't had the chance to see the Big Apple Circus I hope that one day soon I will be able to share it with my own children. I know that it will be a memory that they will cherish as much as I will.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the Lone Star State. Dallas to be exact. Now I myself have never been to Texas. In fact the only time I ever leave New York City is to visit my parent's in Illinois. Other than that I pretty much stay put. So anyway last week I received a call from a regular customer of mine who was looking to bring the whole family into New York and was wanted to take in a couple of show while they were here.I asked her what she wanted to see and she was hoping to get tickets to see Memphis and La Cage Aux Follles but was worried that they might be difficult to get since both won the Tony Awards.

I reassured that even though both shows were very popular I should still be able to get her seats and maybe at an "Insider Price". For those of you that may not be familiar with that term it basically means that we have access to seats that are lower than what you could get them for at the box office. Sounds like one heck of a deal right? So after finding out how many tickets she wanted and the dates they were here I went to work on getting her the best deal. Since she wasn't coming during a hectic time of the year I was able to get her great seats for both shows and at a price that was lower than we were both expecting. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Save On Tony Winner Billy Elliot This Fall

Still haven't seen Billy Elliot yet? Well there is no better time than the present. The show which won ten 2009 Tony Awards including Best Musical continues to be one of Broadway's hottest shows with sales reaching over a million dollars a week. Now believe it or not but I have never seen the show or the hit movie it is based on. I'm sure it's good. The show didn't win all those awards for nothing. I just don't have any desire to see it that's all. Trust me. Elton John and the producers of the show aren't losing any sleep at night because one little ticket broker hasn't seen their show. Now for those of you who do want to see the show you have come to the right place. From now thru the end of the year you can get tickets to see this Tony winning musical at prices that can't beat. Be advised that this "Insider Deal" is not good for November 26-28 and December 19-January 2,2011. Get your tickets to see Billy Elliot on Broadway. Deals like these don't come around every day so call now.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Down Under. That's right folks. I am talking about none other than Sydney, Australia. This past Friday a couple from Australia came up to our office looking for tickets to a Broadway show. Now with most ticket brokers in New York they don't have an office that you can just pop in to inquire about tickets.

You have to call. That is not the case with Applause. Our doors are open seven days a week. 365 days a year. Feel free to stop by anytime. Now enough self-promotion. Back to the reason for today's blog. Having never been to New York before our new friends from Down Under wanted to see as much as they could while they were here but not have to mortgage their house to do it.

I told them that not only could I get them good seats but at prices that are lower than they could get anywhere else. The shows that they wanted to see were In The Heights, Memphis, Million Dollar Quartet, and Promises, Promises. All good choices I think. Anyway since they were here for a week I went ahead and selected the dates where they would get the best seats and at the best prices. Four great shows. Four amazing prices. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?
