Now for those of you who read my blogs you know that I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world. In fact of the seven Disney shows that have opened on Broadway I have only seen Aida. I take that back. I did see Tarzan and The Little Mermaid. I guess I just blocked that out. Now believe it or not but I actually enjoyed Aida. I guess because it wasn't based on a cartoon. Saying that I do believe they have a place. After all if it wasn't for Disney most children might never get the chance to experience the magic that is a live theatre.
I guess for that they should be commended. Aladdin, which is based on the 1992 movie of the same name is set to begin previews at the New Amsterdam Theatre on February 26, 2014 with opening night scheduled for March 20, 2014. Now as we all know both The Lion King and Mary Poppins played at the same theatre and they were big hits. Will Aladdin be just as successful? We will soon find out. Now for those of you like me who have never seen the movie here is a description of the musical from the show's website. Enjoy!
Disney's smash hit movie Aladdin finally makes its way to the Broadway stage! Directed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon) and featuring the classic Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice score with songs like "Friend Like Me" and the Academy Award-winning "A Whole New World," Aladdin will use a new book and additional lyrics by Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer). Aladdin is sure to bring joy and laughter to the whole family!
O.K. let's be honest. That sounded more like a plug about the show as opposed to what the show is actually about. The truth is though that most if not all of the people that will end up buying tickets for the show are because they are fans of the movie. Makes sense to me. By the way for those of you whoare looking to purchase tickets to see Aladdin you have come to the right place. In fact not only do we sell tickets to Aladdin but to Newsies, The Lion King, and of course every show both On and Off-Broadway. That's what we do. Get your tickets to see Aladdin on Broadway at New Amsterdam Theatre. Until next time Disney fans.
