Can it be true? Another new musical announcing that they are coming to Broadway next year? It's true my friends. Come From Away, which opened on September 2 in Washington D.C, at the Ford's Theatre, will open on Broadway at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on February 18, 2017, with opening night scheduled for Match 12.
Prior to it's Broadway engagement, Come From Away will play a limited run from November 25-January 8, at the Royal Alexandria Theatre in Toronto. The show, which features an original score by husband and wife team Irene Sankoff and David Hein, will be directed by Tony Award nominee Christopher Ashley. So what exactly is the show about? To be honest when they first announced the show, it reminded me of the show Come Fly Away which featured music by Frank Sinatra. The show, despite warm reviews, closed a little after six months and lost it's entire investment.
But enough about that show. Come From Away takes place in Newfoundland, a rural town in Canada, shortly after the terrorist attacks on 9/11. Within hours of this terrible tragedy thirty-eight planes, carrying a total of 6,579 passengers are left stranded, turning this remote little village upside down. Tickets for the show are set to go on sale on October 24. Not only that but we will be selling them. Get your tickets to see Come From Away at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on Broadway. Until next time theatre fans.
