Exciting news theatre fans. One of Broadway's most beloved shows of all time is headed back to the Great White Way. West Side Story, which believe it or not first premiered sixty-one years ago, is set to begin previews at a Broadway theatre to be announced on December 10, 2019, with opening night scheduled for February 6, 2020.
Two months of previews for a revival? I guess they want to make sure it's perfect. It was also announced today, that the show is being directed by Tony Award winning director Ivo van Hove (A View From A Bridge, The Crucible), with new choreography by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.
Yes that's right. This will be the first Broadway production not to use Jerome Robbin's iconic choreography. Now some may not agree with that, but I think it's time to put a new spin on this beloved musical. Here's hoping I am right. Until next time theatre fans.
