Come Fly Away To Close On September 5

Well as much as I hate to say it my prediction has come true. It was just announced that the new musical Come Fly Away will play it's final performance on Broadway on Sunday September 5, 2010. When it closes it will have played a total of 26 previews and a 187 regular performances. Despite it's premature closing the show is still expected to launch a National Tour in Chicago in May 2011.

Now while I enjoyed the show I always thought it had a limited audience. When it first opened ticket sales we good. In fact just last month they put a new block of seats on sale thru January 11. However with no Tony wins and no big advance it was doomed. Another one bites the dust. Until next time theatre fans.

Save On Come Fly Away This Summer

Now I'll be the first to admit that while Come Fly Away may not be a traditional musical like West Side Story or Billy Elliot it does have it's place on Broadway. Oh sure there may not be any dialogue but that never stopped Cats or Les Miz from becoming two of Broadway's longest running shows.

Anyway for those of you looking for a terrific show with some of the best dancer's to ever hit the Broadway stage then you can't go wrong with Come Fly Away. Featuring choreography by Tony winner Twyla Tharp and music by Frank Sinatra this show is perfect for couples looking for a romantic night on the town.

By the way for those of you who want tickets to see this Tony nominated musical there is no better time than the present. From now thru October 31, 2010 good seats are now available at prices that are lower than any other time of the year.

Be advised that this "Insider Deal" is good for all performances excluding October 9 and 10 and is subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Come Fly Away on Broadway. It is a night that you will never forget.

New Block Of Seats For Come Fly Away Now On Sale

I have to tell you for a show that got mediocre reviews and very few Tony nods Come Fly Away has defied the critics and is steadily become one of this season's biggest success stories. As of today tickets are now on sale thru February 11, 2011 with no end in sight. Now as I mentioned even the show did not get the best reviews from the critics it is still doing very well at the box office with most weeks selling over $800,000 in tickets.

I guess the critics don't know everything now do they?Anyway as I mentioned a new block of tickets just went on sale and good seats are available for all performances. By the way the Marquis Theatre which houses Come Fly Away is not a big theatre so whether your in the first ten rows or the last few rows upstairs all seats are a full view. How many theatres can say that? Get your tickets to see Come Fly Away on Broadway. Dancing on Broadway will never be the same again.

Come Fly Away

Well the reviews are in for Come Fly Away and as I promised in yesterday's blog I will be posting the reviews. For the most part I would say they were mixed. The New York Times seemed to really enjoy it while the other New York papers not as much. Judge for yourself. Now as I mentioned yesterday they are selling pretty well as of right now. Look no matter what the reviews say I would think the show will at least survive thru the Summer. We shall see. Until next time theatre fans.

Come Fly Away Opens Tonight

That's right theatre fans. Twyla Tharp's latest work Come Fly Away is set to open tonight at the Marquis Theatre on Broadway. Now while I saw the show a few weeks ago and enjoyed it for the most part I'm not sure what the critics are going to think. Her first show Movin Out was a favorite of mine when it opened back in late 2002 but I hated her second show The Times They Are A Changin. I know hate is a strong word but after her first triumph my expectations were very high.

So far the show has been grossing over $500,000 a week since it opened with last week selling at 83% capacity although most of those tickets were discounted. Look if the reviews are good hopefully sales will increase and it will be around for awhile. With all the more traditional musicals out there Come Fly Away is a nice change. I hope it lasts. We shall see. Check out tomorrows blog where I will post the reviews. Until next time theater fans.

Twyla Tharp's Come Fly Away Now On Sale

One of my favorite shows of the past decade was Twyla Tharp's first Broadway triumph Movin' Out. The show which featured the music of Billy Joel enjoyed a four year run on Broadway. Her next show The Times They Are A Changin' however was a colossal flop and lasted less then two months. Well now Ms. Tharp is set to return this Spring with here latest work.Come Fly Away, a new musical featuring the music of Frank Sinatra is set to begin previews at the Marquis Theatre on March 1 with an official opening set for March 24.

Now like I said I loved Movin' Out and am thrilled that most of the cast from that show are going to be featured in this new production. By the way if you need tickets to see Come Fly Away we have access to tickets that believe it or not are below face value. Right now this special deal is good thru June 20. Get your tickets to see Come Fly Away on Broadway. If reviews are good I expect it to be one of this season's biggest hits.

Calling all Sinatra fans.Come Fly Away, the new dance musical from the mastermind of Tony winner Twyla Tharp is set to open on Broadway this Spring at the Marquis Theatre. Now while I enjoyed Ms. Tharp's first Broadway show Movin'Out I did not care for her sophomore effort The Times Are A Changin'.Previews are set to begin on March 1 with an official opening set for March 25. I for one am looking forward to the show and hope that it succeeds. Broadway could use a hit. Until next time theatre fans.

The Season Ahead Part Two

Earlier this week I posted a blog discussing the remaining shows set to open this season. Since then two new shows have been announced. Things pretty move fast on the Great White Way. You blink and you just might miss something. Here are the next five.

Next Fall(March 11)This new play by critically acclaimed and Off-Broadway favorite Geoffrey Naufft's is set to have it's Broadway premier this Winter at the Helen Hayes Theatre. The show which opened to favorable reviews last year is set to begin previews on February 16. Here is a brief description about the show according to a production source. "Next Fall takes a witty and provocative look at faith, commitment and unconditional love. While the play’s central story focuses on the 5-year relationship between Adam and Luke, Next Fall goes beyond a typical love story. This timely and compelling new American play forces us all to examine what it means to "believe" and what it might cost us not to." Sounds interesting to me.

Looped(March 14)This new play starring Emmy Award winner Valerie Harper tells the story of the late film star Tallulah Bankhead. The show which begins previews on February 19 at the Lyceum Theatre takes place in a sound studio in 1965 where Ms. Bankhead is trying re-record or "loop" one line of dialogue for what would turn out to be her last film,"Die, Die My Darling." Not sure what to think about this one. Ms. Harper was a great comic actress in the 70's and 80's. Playing an iconic film star is a whole different ballgame. This has the making of an hysterical night in the theatre or a train wreck of epic proportions. We will soon find out.

All About Me(March 18)This new show features one of the strangest pairings on the planet. Dame Edna and Michael Feinstein. What these two have in common is beyond me. To be honest I avoided Dame Edna the last two times she was here but there is no denying she has a following. Same with Michael Feinstein. Is there enough of an audience that wants to see them together? No idea. Let the freak show begin.

Come Fly Away(March 25) Earlier this week it was announced that Twyla Tharp's new dance musical featuring the music of Frank Sinatra is set to make it's Broadway premier this Spring. Being a big fan of Sinatra as well as a fan of Ms. Tharp's first foray on to Broadway Movin' Out I hope this is a good one. If the reviews are good expect a lot of Tony nominations in May.

Lend Me A Tenor(April 4)As I mentioned in an earlier blog today I am really looking forward to this show. It's been a long time since Broadway has had a really good slapstick comedy and I think that with the cast they have assembled the show has a good shot of being a success. We shall see.

Well there we are. Next week I will highlight the next five shows set to open this Spring. Looks like an interesting season so far. Until next time theatre fans.

Come Fly Away To Open This Spring

Calling all Sinatra fans. No I'm not talking about Nancy. I'm talking about the Chairman of the Board himself Mr. Frank Sinatra. It was just announced that Twyla Tharp's new dance musical Come Fly Away will open this Spring at the Marquis Theatre. The new musical which features the music of Frank Sinatra will begin performances on March 1 with an official opening set for March 25. Following it's sold out critically acclaimed run this past September in Atlanta rumors were flying that it was going to open this season. Well thankfully the rumors were true. Besides The Addams Family and Million Dollar Quartet, there are no other new musicals set to open this Spring. Now while I hated Ms. Tharps last Broadway offering The Times They Are Changin, I loved her first show Movin Out. Expect this show to be a big contender come Tony time.
