Good Deals Now Available For Tony Winner Fela! Thru The Fall

One of this past season's most honored and critically acclaimed shows is Fela. This new musical which tells the life story of activist and musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti received eleven 2010 Tony nominations including Best Musical. The show which first premiered Off-Broadway in 2008 is directed and choreographed by Tony winner Bill T. Jones who received a Tony Award for Best Choreography for his work in the show.

Besides having some high profile producers in Jay-Z and Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith the show has proven to be a big seller at the box office since it opened last year. Now that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. In fact right now is the best time to get this award winning musical. From now thru October 31, 2010 good seat's are available at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that this "Special Offer" is good for select seats and subject to availability.

Get your tickets to see Fela on Broadway. One more thing. It was just announced that Grammy Award winning singer Patti LaBelle will be joining the cast as Kuti's mother beginning this September. She replaces Tony winner Lillias White who is leaving the show to perform in a series of concerts in Australia. The exact dates of Miss Labelle's engagement is to be announced shortly. I might just have to check it out now. Maybe I'll see you there. Until next time theatre fans.

See Tony Nominee Fela For Less This Summer

That's right theatre fans. This season's most nominated show is now available at prices that can't beat. Fela! which received eleven 2010 Tony nominations including Best Musical opened at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on November 23, 2009 to rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. The show is based on the life of musician and political activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti and features his music. Now depite all the nominations I'm not sure how well it will do at next month's Tony Awards. My pick for Best Musical was American Idiot but it seems to be losing steam as of late.

My guess it will come down to Fela and Memphis. Now as much as I enjoyed Million Dollar Quartet it will just have to settle for a Tony nomination and hopefully a great performance on the Tony Awards. Anyway back to the reason for my blog. For those of you who are looking to get tickets to see Fela then you have come to the right place my friends. From now thru July 11 you can see this multiple Tony nominee for prices that are below face value. Be advised that this offer is subject to availability and can be pulled at anytime. Get your tickets to see Fela on Broadway.

My 2010 Tony Award Predictions

Two days ago I posted the nominations for the 2010 Tony Awards. Today I am going to give you my picks on both who I think should win and also who will win. Take my picks for what they will. They are after all just one man's opinion. Enjoy!

Best Play
In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play
Next Fall
Red
Time Stands Still

Will Win:Red
Should Win:Next Fall. Now while Red received great reviews it is set to close at the end of next month leaving Next Fall as the only play currently running. However it was just announced that Time Stands Still is set to return to Broadway this fall with it's original cast minus Alicia Silverstone.

Best Musical
American Idiot
Fela!
Memphis
Million Dollar Quartet

Will Win:Memphis. If you had asked me this question a month ago it would have been between The Addams Family and American Idiot. My how times have changed. Therefore I am going with Memphis even though I really didn't like it. However it will sell really well around the country which we all know is what counts these days.
Should Win:American Idiot

Best Play Revival
Fences
Lend Me A Tenor
The Royal Family
A View From The Bridge

Will Win:Fences. It is the only one still running besides Lend Me A Tenor.
Should Win:A View From The Bridge. It was one of the best received shows of this season.

Best Musical Revival
Finian's Rainbow
La Cage Aux Folles
A Little Night Music
Ragtime

Will Win:La Cage Aux Folles. Critics and audiences loved the show.If it wins it will make history as the only show to take the top prize for each of it's Broadway productions.
Should Win:Ragtime If both Ragtime and Finian's Rainbow were still running it would be a much tighter race my friends.

Best Performance By A Leading Actor In A Play
Jude Law, Hamlet
Alfred Molina, Red
Liev Schreiber, A View from the Bridge
Christopher Walken, A Behanding in Spokane
Denzel Washington, Fences

Will Win:Denzel Washington. Those of you who read my blogs now that he is one of my favorite actor's of all time so I am of course hoping he wins plus I think the Tony voters will want to encourage more actor's of his caliber to come to Broadway.
Should Win:Liev Schreiber. Besides getting rave reviews he is one of the finest stage actor's of his generation.

Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play
Viola Davis, Fences
Valerie Harper, Looped
Linda Lavin, Collected Stories
Laura Linney, Time Stands Still
Jan Maxwell, The Royal Family

Will Win:Viola Davis. While I think she might have had a better chance at winning if she was in the Best Featured Actress category I still think she will take home the trophy although don't count out Linda Lavin.
Should Win:Jan Maxwell. No need to feel sad for Ms. Maxwell as she is expected to take home the Tony for her hilarious performance in Lend Me A Tenor.

Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical
Kelsey Grammer, La Cage aux Folles
Sean Hayes, Promises, Promises
Douglas Hodge, La Cage aux Folles
Chad Kimball, Memphis
Sahr Ngaujah, Fela!

Will Win:Douglas Hodge. Best reviews of the season and he has been the odds on favorite since the show was announced.
Should Win:Douglas Hodge. See above.

Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical
Kate Baldwin, Finian's Rainbow
Montego Glover, Memphis
Christiane Noll, Ragtime
Sherie Rene Scott, Everyday Rapture
Catherine Zeta-Jones, A Little Night Music

Will Win:Catherine Zeta-Jones:Once again if you had asked me a month ago I would have picked Catherine-Zeta Jones but then Megan Mullally quit Lips Together,Teeth Apart and Everyday Rapture snuck in at the last minute. Now according to an article in yesterday's Daily News they speculate that Zeta-Jones and Scott will cancel each other out and Montego Glover will sweep in and take the big prize. We shall see.
Should Win:Kate Baldwin. Last fall a new Broadway star was born. As I said before things would be a lot different if both Ragtime and Finian's Rainbow were still playing.

Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play
David Alan Grier, Race
Stephen McKinley Henderson, Fences
Jon Michael Hill, Superior Donuts
Stephen Kunken, Enron
Eddie Redmayne, Red

Will Win:Eddie Redmayne. To be honest I didn't see any of the shows but my guess is the Tony Voters will go with this Broadway newcomer who more than holds his own with heavyweight Alfred Molina.
Should Win:Jon Michael Hill. Once again another Broadway newcomer who stole the show from his more experienced castmates.

Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play
Maria Dizzia, In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play
Rosemary Harris, The Royal Family
Jessica Hecht, A View from the Bridge
Scarlett Johansson, A View from the Bridge
Jan Maxwell, Lend Me a Tenor

Will Win:Besides giving on of the best performances of the season she is long overdue.
Should Win.Jan Maxwell. See above.

Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical
Kevin Chamberlin, The Addams Family
Robin De Jesús, La Cage aux Folles
Christopher Fitzgerald, Finian's Rainbow
Levi Kreis, Million Dollar Quartet
Bobby Steggert, Ragtime

Will Win:Kevin Chamberlin. This beloved Broadway veteran steals the show and your heart. How many performers can do that nowadays?
Should Win:Kevin Chamberlin. Look we all know that The Addams Family deserved more than two nominations. They will have to settle for this win.

Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical
Barbara Cook, Sondheim on Sondheim
Katie Finneran, Promises, Promises
Angela Lansbury, A Little Night Music
Karine Plantadit, Come Fly Away
Lillias White, Fela!

Will Win:Katie Finneran. She steals the show from her more high profile costar Kristen Chenoweth.
Should Win:Katie Finneran. Unless the Tony voters decide to honor Barbara Cook for returning to Broadway for the first time in many years.

Best Original Score
The Addams Family
Enron
Fences
Memphis

Will Win:Memphis. If The Addams Family doesn't win then Memphis is the likely winner.
Should Win: The Addams Family. Now I know I maybe in the minority here but I loved the score.

Best Book of a Musical:
Everyday Rapture
Fela!
Memphis
Million Dollar Quartet

Should Win:Quite frankly since The Addams Family isn't nominated I don't think any are worthy but I guess by default it should go to Everyday Rapture.

Best Direction of A Musical
Christoper Ashley,Memphis
Marcia Milgrom Dodge,Ragtome
Terry Johnson,La Cage Aux Folles
Bill T. Jones,Fela!

Will Win:Terry Johnson. If La Cage takes the Tony for Best Revival then Mr. Johnson will win here.
Should Win:Michael Mayer should have been all over this category but he's not.

Best Direction of a Play
Michael Grandage,Red
Sheryl Kaller,Next Fall
Kenny Leon,Fences
Gregory Mosher,A View From The Bridge

Will Win:If it's a Fences sweep then Kenny Leon will take it.
Should Win:Gergory Mosher. People bought tickets to see Liev Schreiber and Scarlett Johannson but without it's director the show would have not been as well received.

Well there are my picks for the 2010 Tony Awards. Who will win the big prize? At this point all bets are off. We will fine out on June 13. Until next time theatre fans.

Get Tickets To See Fela On Broadway For Below Face Value

One of this season's most critically acclaimed shows is Fela. The show which is based on the life of activist and musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti opened on Broadway last November to rave reviews. Prior to it's Broadway opening it had a very successful run Off-Broadway at the 37 Arts Theatre.

It's interesting to note that this was the same theatre that launched In The Heights. That show would go on to win the Tony Award for Best Musical and become one of Broadway's biggest hits. Will Fela have the same success? Only time will tell. By the way if you need tickets to see Fela on Broadway then you have come to the right place my friends.

From now thru July 4 tickets are available to see this crowd pleasing musical at prices that are lower then you will find anywhere else. See the show that Ben Brantley of The New York Times said, "There should be dancing in the streets. There has never been anything like this on Broadway." Get your tickets to see Fela on Broadway. You will love it.

Broadway's new musical Fela! has legs

If you're like me and love intensely unique music and amazing dance routines, then maybe you should consider obtaining tickets for Fela!, a brand new Broadway show. Fela! uses the uniqueness of Afrobeat, which is a combination of Jazz, Funk and African rhythm and harmonies. This great music is used to tell the inspirational story of the controversial African artist and musician and political activist named Fela Kuti.

Fela Kuti's amazing songs along with Tony Award winner Bill T. Jones original staging makes for a very special theater experience indeed. Mr. Jones also is the writer of Fela! musicals book.

One of the many markets we serve when providing tickets to theater-goers are sales to hotel concierge. In making my rounds visiting various hotel concierge in New York City over the past few weeks, I must say that most of these New York City experts really love the Fela! musical. My friend Lorena is a head concierge at the newly refurbished Surrey Hotel on East 73rd Street and she said "Rich, I really loved everything about Fela! and often suggest my hotel guests go to see it".

Of course Fela! will be a much different theater experience than you've ever had. But if you are looking to see something that only comes along once every 10 to 20 years or so, maybe Fela! is the show you've been waiting for.

Right now, the local Broadway ticket experts at Applause Ticket Agency in New York City (NY State license #71AP1001029) have an arrangement with Fela! which will give our customers access to top priced seating for this amazing event along with greatly reduced prices. It's very simple really when you think about it. Fela! wants an introduction to the average Broadway theater-goer so they can sell more tickets to the show. With this in mind, Fela! is giving our company Applause a significant discount. We in turn, pass on the reduced price we can buy the tickets for, add on a small service charge and offer the public seats at terrific prices.

From now through November 21, 2009, we can provide tickets at below face value for Fela! And provide excellent orchestra and front mezzanine seats as well. If you think you might want to see something unique on Broadway, consider a call to Applause today. Ask for the Fela! BFV ticket special. For additional BFV ticket deals please click here.

If you want to talk about any of the other long-running Broadway Shows, we welcome your call toll free at 800-451-9930 or locally at 212-307-7050. There is never any pressure to make a purchase. We just consider ourselves people that love and know the theater very well.. if we can help, just let us know.

I hope this information is helpful to you and hope you'll consider passing our company name along to others in your life that love the Broadway Theater.

Take care theater lovers.

Sincerely,
Rich Gladstone

Fela! Begins Previews Tonight

Following a sold out run Off-Broadway in 2008, Fela! will begin previews tonight at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on Broadway. This new musical tells the true story of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti. The show which is being directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Bill T. Jones(Spring Awakening)is set to open on November 23. While reviews were strong when it played last year it did not move due to a lack of appropriate theatres that could house this very large show. Will it succeed on Broadway? We will soon find out. Until next time theatre fans.
