That's right playgoers.Sunday December 6 will mark the end for three shows. Hamlet, After Miss Julie, and A Steady Rain. Now the one thing these three shows have in common is that they were all limited runs. That's where the similarities stop.Let's take a look.
Hamlet-Let's be honest. Most people are not going to the show because the are fans of William Shakespeare's. Although the man sure knows how to write dramas. The main selling point is film star Jude Law. Now while he does have a following I don't think the show would have been as well received if he didn't have the acting chops to pull it off. According to everything I've read he does. Hopefully we won't have to wait another fourteen years to see this talented actor on the boards again.
After Miss Julie-This new adaptation of Strindburg's Miss Julie marks the Broadway debut of film star Sienna Miller who by the way also just happens to be the ex of Hamlet himself, Jude Law. While the show received mix reviews Ms. Miller was praised for her work in the show. Dare I suggest a revival of Streetcar with her and Mr. Law in 2011. Wishful thinking perhaps.
A Steady Rain-Last but certainly not least is a new play by playwright Keith Huff. The show which first premiered in Chicago stars a pair of unknown actor's who play two of Chicago's finest. Kidding. We all know the only reason this show has been breaking box office records is because of the shows two stars. Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig. These two could have read the phone book for ninety minutes and it still would have made money. Now whether or not these two are remembered come Tony time is another story.
Well there you are. Three shows. Three closings. Tickets are still available for all shows. Which will you choose? Until next time.

Final Four Weeks To See Jude Law In Hamlet
That's right folks. You only have thirty-two more chances to see film and stage star Jude Law perform the title role in William Shakespeare's Hamlet. The show which has been a big seller on Broadway and in the West End will play it's final performance on Sunday December 6 at the Broadhurst Theatre. The show which received rave reviews from the critics recouped it's entire investment last month. Not bad for a three hour show that most people have already seen either on Broadway before or at a regional theatre around the country. I guess having a star in the role helps. I personally have not seen the show. To be honest Shakespeare's not really my thing. Now maybe if they had somebody like Kate Winslet in one of his shows then I might change my mind. Regardless Hamlet is a big fat hit and should continue to sell well for the remainder of it's run. Get your tickets to see Hamlet on Broadway. It will be gone before you know it.JWB

Here's Your Chance to See Jude Law on Broadway
Although I recall an English teacher from my childhood ( I think his name was Mr. Newby but I am going back about 40 years) being a William Shakespeare fanatic, I never really found it easy to understand much of what Shakespeare's plays were all about. It was only when I helped my own children decipher his works as they've had to do many home work assignments over the years, did I really start to enjoy some of the plays myself. So now I am pleased to tell the theater-going world that Mr. Jude Law will play the title role of Hamlet starting this Saturday September 12, 2009. The show arrives on Broadway from a sold out run at the Donmar Warehouse in London's West End and Denmark's Elsinore Castle. Hamlet is directed by Michael Grandage ( Frost/Nixon) and will perform a strictly limited engagement at New York City's Broadhurst Theater through December 6, 2009.
Mr. Law was seen previously on Broadway in 1995. He appeared in a show called Indiscretions and was nominated for a Tony Award as well.
The word of mouth and previous reviews about this modern production of Hamlet on Broadway all seem to point to it being an excellent show. Particularly with the "explosive" role that Mr. Law portrays on stage.
If you think you might want to see Jude Law in this modern production of Hamlet on Broadway, you may contact the folks at Applause Ticket Agency in New York City when you get a chance. Applause Ticket Agency is a New York State licensed ticket expert (license #71AP1001029) specializing in obtaining seats for Hamlet on Broadway as well as all the other Broadway Shows playing. Three Broadway Shows To Begin Performances This Week
In all the years in this business I can't recall that many shows opening in the same week. Now by opening I mean previews not the official press opening which is usually three to four weeks later. Also God of Carnage the 2009 Tony Award winner for Best Play returns tonight following a six week hiatus. Let's take a look at the shows beginning this week.
Bye Bye Birdie-You know the songs. Heck some of you have probably seen the show at your local high school or community theatre or like me acted in a production when they were younger. I was Randolph Macafee in case you were wondering. Anyway this new production marks the first time the show has been on Broadway since the original 1960 production. This version which is being produced by the Tony Award winning Roundabout Theatre Company stars John Stamos and Albert Peterson and Gina Gershon as Rose Alvarez. Like most Roundabout shows a majority of their tickets are reserved for their subscribers so get your tickets now before it is too late. One interesting note is that this will mark the first production in the newly refurbished Henry Miller's Theatre. They kept the facade due to it being an historical landmark and built a brand new theatre around it. Having seen pictures of the theatre I can tell you they did an amazing job. Now let's see if the show is as good as the theatre. We will soon find out. Previews begin on September 10 with an official opening set for October 15.
Hamlet-This new play by unknown playwright William Shakespeare is set to star the largely unknown actor Jude Law. Of course I am kidding. The show has only been performed about a million times over the years which ironically enough is about the number of films that Mr. Law has done recently. The show which received rave reviews in London is set to begin previews on September 12 and run thru December 6 only. Tickets are selling very well so don't wait to long to get them.
A Steady Rain-Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few months then you know that this new play by Keith Huff is starring Daniel Craig and Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman. Most dates are already sold out. The show which will begin on September 10 is like Hamlet set to close on December 6.
Three different shows. Three big sellers. Now let's see what the critics have to say. Until next time theatre fans.
