Little Shop Of Horrors Reviews

little shop of horrors jonathan groffThat's right theatre fans. It's that time again. Time to celebrate another show opening in NYC. Only this time, it's not a Broadway show. Although with the folks involved, it sure feels like one. Last night, Little Shop of Horrors opened Off-Broadway at the Westside Arts Theatre.

The theatre, which only holds two hundred and seventy seats, is only blocks away from the Broadway district, where the show made it's Broadway debut in 2003 at the August Wilson Theatre. That production starred Hunter Foster and Kerry Butler.

Directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening, Hedwig and the Angry Inch), and featuring music by Tony and Academy Award winner, and book and lyrics by Academy Award winner Howard Ashman, Little Shop of Horrors stars Tony Award nominee's Jonathan Groff and Tammy Blanchard as co-workers Seymour and Audrey, and two-time Tony Award winner Christian Borle as Orin. Starring along side the trio are Tom Alan Robbins, Kingsley Leggs, Ari Groover, Salome Smith, Joy Woods, Stephen Berger, Chris Dwan, Kris Roberts, Chelsea Turbin, Eric Wright, and Teddy Youdain. So what did the critic's have to say? Let's find out.

Now that is what I call some great reviews. Tickets for the limited production have been flying out the door ever since they went on sale. Now that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. It just means you may have to spend a little more to get them. Also be advised, tickets are only on sale thru January 19,2020. Here's hoping the show extends. Fingers crossed. Off-Broadway Revival Of Little Shop Of Horrors Now In Previews

One of my favorite movies growing up was Little Shop of Horrors starring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Vincent Gardenia, Steve Martin, and Bill Murray. The movie, which was based on the long running Off-Broadway production, premiered on the big screen in 1986. Now while it grossed less at the box office than expected, it soon turned into a hit following it's release on VHS and Beta.

Yes that's right kids. I said Beta. Now here we are thirty-three years later, and this beloved musical is headed back to the Off-Broadway stage. Only this time instead of playing at an the intimate Orpheum Theatre in the East Village, it has moved uptown just steps from Time Square at the Westside Arts Theatre.

Tickets for the limited production have been flying out the door ever since they went on sale. Now that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. It just means you have to spend a little more to get them. Little Shop Of Horrors To Return To New York City

Image result for little shop of horrors off- broadway logoWhat a way to start the week theatre fans. It was just announced, that Little Shop of Horrors is headed back to New York in September. Now before you start wondering what Broadway theatre it's going into, you can stop wondering. Why you ask? Because the beloved musical is not going to the Great White Way.

Instead it's headed Off-Broadway to the Westside Arts Theatre. Previews are set to begin on September 17, with opening night scheduled for October 17, Leading the cast are Tony Award nominee Jonathan Groff as Seymour, two-time Tony Award nominee Tammy Blanchard as Audrey, and two-time Tony Award winner Christian Borle as Orin. Now that is what I call an all-star cast theatre fans.

The show, which premiered Off-Broadway in 1982 at the Orpheum Theatre, features music by Academy Award winner Alan Menken, book and lyrics by Howard Ashman, and direction by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer. Now I for one am happy to see the show returning to it's Off-Broadway roots. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the 2003 Broadway production. I just feel it plays better in a more intimate space. By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see the show, you are in luck. We sell it. Get your tickets to see Little Shop of Horrors at the Westside Arts Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

London's Little Shop of Horrors to Close in September

The Menier Chocolate Factory production of Little Shop of Horrors , which has been playing in the West End's Duke of York's and the Ambassadors theatres for 26 weeks, will close on Sept. 8 prior to a U.K. tour in 2008.

One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this affectionate spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies has become a household name, thanks to a highly successful film version and a score by the songwriting team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. Charming, tuneful and hilarious, with tongue firmly planted in cheek, Little Shop of Horrors never fails to entertain.
